The duke thought over the last events of the evening. He admired the Byzantine emperor for his swift actions, and resolved to set Telosan on good terms with them. Tommorow, he would have to talk to him about opening trade. The Nagian hosts were worthy of admiration as well, keeping thier heads while chaos erupted about them. They would make good allies as well, so he resolved to talk with them come the morning. |

OOC: I'm happy to RP anything in NS2. Really. Anything. But assume that any reasonable offers of trade with Nag Ehgoeg (or requests to exchange diplomats) as being accepted. Βασιλεύς. IC: "We will of course house any delegation wishing to maintain relations with us." Edited by Nag Ehgoeg, Dec 21 2008, 09:46 AM.

Jouron Potts, Foreign Minister DeLuxe of New Harumf was now like a dog chasing a bitch in heat. Every diplomat in the room was getting signed papers seeking trade status, in particular, the Nagehgoegian minister reecieved a request, in writing, for favored trade status. The only nation not to get an offer was Thule, only because Jouron could not locate Clare. He'd give papers to the dead king, except corpses scared him. |

The Emperor intended to remain in Nagasaki for a few days longer, to negotiate diplomatic and economic agreements with those who had shown interest in doing so. Connections with the Empire were certainly the height of prestige, after all. |

There were still communities of Muslims strewn about the Empire's eastern countries, so the proposal was not offensive to the emperor. For a long time, the Empire had sought a more peaceful modus vivendi in the East than the medieval Crusaders had. Also, the pilgrim traffic was a major economic benefit to Palestine, and this did not escape the emperor's thought. "I am interested in this proposal. I think it would appropriate that we guarantee the safety of Muslim pilgrims so we will be happy to make an agreement with you on this matter. Also, let us exchange embassies. And someday, if your lord is willing, I would like to see some of the places in the East where Alexander walked..." |

"We will grant your consulate in Jerusalem, and the rights of pilgrims to travel under escort. However, we reserve the right to restrict the movements of the Dervish military, because we limit the ability of foreign troops to travel under arms within our borders. "We agree that it would be best for both of us to look to peace and friendship rather than war. We are pleased at your offer." |

The Byzantine Emperor was busy at the moment William was ready to continue negotiations. It was a minor change of plans, and no harm came to it. The english duke went in search of the Nagian host. Upon finding him and exchanging pleasantries, he said, "We would like to open trade relations, begining on favorable status, being thus convinced of your good intentions as seen in this conference. Our Phillipine colonies should allow trading to be quick and easy, as very few things are these days. Telosan and Nag Ehgoeg are much alike, both great seafaring countries, seperated from the mainland of thier respective continents. We hope to be allies long into the future." |

"They would be most welcome. We should like to send men here in a likewise assignment. An exchange of embassies may also be in order. Life in England is different than the Phillipines. As a warning, you may notice our lands to be quite empty. Having decades of war has surely worn down our youth and middle-aged. I'd like to apologise in advance should you find this troubling." |

After finishing the conversation with the Nagian host and making proper arrangements, the duke went in search of the Byzantine emperor. He found him unoccupied and walked up to him. "Greetings, Emperor. I speak here on behalf of Telosan, wishing to open trade and possibly talk of an alliegence. Your land lies over the incredibly useful Suez Canal, so I'd surely have to ask about free passage through this valuable waterway." |

The Emperor smiled slightly to greet this new envoy. "You are from Anglia, correct? Tell me of your land and its customs." OOC: In Latin and Greek, England as a whole is referred to as Anglia. |

OOC: Is this the current Suez Canal, and if so, who in our history dug it and owns it? Or is this the original Ptolomic Suez Canal connecting the Nile to the Red Sea?? |

OOC: NH: The father or grandfather of the current emperor commenced the renovation/construction of a modern canal built along the course of the ancient one, so properly speaking it is more like the ancient one than the modern one, but it has been rebuilt in modern times. I own it. That's how I envisioned it when I thought up my history, though I have not written it down yet. If what I described is not feasible let me know; I'm not anything of an expert on canals. |

"Telosan is based in the old country of England. As such, our heritage is the same. While I'll not bore you with our history, as you can easily find elsewhere, and just speak on the culture." "We are a people very tradition bound. The past holds great value to us, while to many others, history and heritage is only good for reading on a quiet Sunday afternoon." "We are an intellectual people, as many professors of the arts and science have resided and currently reside within our borders. We also pay a large mind to architecture. Our castles and cathedrals are world reknown. Our music, food, lore, and literature are strongly influenced by our longtime allies/neighbors Scotland and Wales. We even draw influence from the Irish." "Since you inquire to our heritage, I see it fit that I ask yours as well." |

The Emperor smiled easily. What he had heard had pleased him. He would be able to get on well with the English in this new era that had opened up in this world. "It sounds to me," he began, "that in many ways your kingdom is like my empire. We Romans too are a people bound to our tradition." Suddenly the old Emperor John had to force back a tear in his eye, thinking of how the world had decline since the days of old. "Our forefathers," he continued, "were the ancient Greeks and Romans, great and noble men who have inspired generations in the West as models of intellect and virtue. It was in the rule of the Romans that the Savior was born, and we have struggled now for many centuries on His behalf. We like you value history and heritage, and we struggle that things might be as they were in the beginning, but the world continues to decay around us. "Like you, we value the arts and the sciences. The City is home to universities and other institutions. And like you English, we are a people happy to trade with others around the world, to travel, and to learn and observe all the nations of the earth. I will be pleased to deal with you, Duke." |

OOC: Considering the older canal lasted for 800 years - considerably longer than the current canal, I see no reason why your explanation isn't perfect. The only major problem with the old canal was the receding Red Sea, and silt buildup, both of which can be handled with simple maintanence. |

"It is always a pleasure to find someone else so similar in ways of tradition and holds interest in history. Trading with the mighty Byzantine Empire gives us many resources unavailible to us. You trading with us gives you as much resources and we take." "Should we choose to become allies, we would be a force to be reckoned with. Through our colonies, you'd be capable of greatly expanding your sphere of influence." |

The Emperor nodded. "Yes, I agree, and your country interests me. I will have to visit some time. I would be happy to grant the most favorable trading status between our nations, which would allow your merchant marine access to our waters and shipping lanes, as you have enquired about. However, I must note, that all non-Roman military traffic through Roman waters is restricted, so any warships wishing to travel through our straits would require special requests." |
