Six of the Greeks stood up, surrounding the Emperor, revolvers in hand with the barrels trained on the presumed murderess. Naturally, they would wait til the incident was explained, but should she so much as move without the Emperor's permission, they would fire on her. The Emperor did not think the joke was very funny anymore. |

The little Harumfian started rocking back and forth, and repeating, "Rexicide, rexicide, rexicide!" He then raised his hand again, literally begging for attention, and starting to feel neglected as he continued to be ignored. |

William looked at everyone else's reactions. He realized his was out of place. While his was one without expression, he wasn't expressionless. When he had spoken, he had not known all of what had happened. He had thought that Trekon screamed for another reason, and that Ragnar had just collapsed from being so heavily intoxicated. After he had the full story, that was another matter. He sent gaurds to join the Greeks, saying the woman had killed Ragnar without touching him, and could be very dangerous. He sent one to find out what the Harmufian wanted, and one to find a doctor, though he doubted anything could be done. When things had calmed a bit he said, "I apologize for my previous actions. I had not known the full story and thought our friend had fallen into a drunken sleep." He glanced at Trekon, who was sitting in the corner staring out the window in the direction Claire had been taken. Then he glanced at O'Neill and continued, "I also agree the conference should be discontinued until a funeral is held for our friend, King Ragnar." Then Trekon stood up, and announced, "I will be returning to England as soon as possible. I trust...I assign duke William to take my place." |

"You may as well allow me to leave now. I have things to attend to. When a proper autopsy has been completed, I'm sure you will find he died quite a natural death. He was 86 years old after all." she said innocently. Then, in a slightly less innocent-sounding tone, "I'm a busy girl, and detaining me for much longer would not be in your self-interest." |

Boris Kebin stood up, enraged. What sort of charade was this, where a man could be struck dead and nary a thing was done about it? "If it so pleases the Emperor, I demand this woman's immediate arrest! This is a most grievous breach of the very dignity of the law of nations and, beyond that, simple human dignity! "Indeed, if such a realm as this can exist, where Kings are assassinated at random, then perhaps an intervention to end the anarchy in Scandinavia is called for!" |

Claire decided that now was as good a time as any to make her exit. A massive, billowing cloud of black smoke burst forth from the ground just in front of her, and with the sound of a window shattering, she disappeared. |

"Calm down every one, the death of an old man who had been drinking this entire time, should only be a small issue. We remove the corpse and continue." It was obvious how calm with death Aleksey Sokolov was, after all life was hard in the U.E.S.S. Still waiting for the Nagians, Aleksey Sokolov was strolled up amongst the Englishmen. "An exchange of embassies will be accepted, but trade suggest friendly relations, and besides what can we trade that would be worth the massive trip across the world?" OOC: Since we are in the 1900, try and keep the trade local, unless its really worth the long trip that would take weeks. Edited by Menhad, Dec 16 2008, 09:16 PM.

OOC: E, are these actions plausible with 1900s technology? I found anything matching a billowing cloud or smoke besides some guns. Menhad, I have Asian colonies. Plus, eastern Russia should have plenty of resources that have recently gained great value, not counting anything you might make in your factories. The duke sent his men to aid the Greeks again. "Be sure to check the docks. Check out anyone with similar profile." Sokolov came up to him and continued the conversation. "Not to be rude, sir, but we're a bit shaken by the assasination. I will however finish up today's work. I'll have a messenger on the ship with Emperor Trekon send word to have ambassadors sailed over. As for trade, the U.E.S.S. should have abundant natural resources of great value. Oil, which modern machines seem to need in large quantities and metals that can be used for manufactering. We have plenty to trade as well. If distance is a problem, do not worry. We control the Phillipines so you would only need to ship to there." |

"I know you have study history! Where was your people's dignity when they butchered my people by the thousands! Where was your people's dignity when they exiled my people and forced them to march across Siberia, where thousands died of the cold, and thousands more from lack of food! I spit on your dignity! For you have none!" Aleksey Sokolov was shouting at the top of his lungs, spittle flying from the corners of his mouth. Of course U.E.S.S propaganda helped brew this bitter hatred of Russia, but it had happened and Aleksey Sokolov knew that the Russian knew this. He had to be restrained by some guards, who returned him to his seat, where he sat shaking. Of course he heard the Englishman being oh so polite, that seemed to sicken him, after those bitter words. But of course he couldn't argue with logic, U.E.S.S ships only needed to go to the Phillipines, where they would make a good profit. Also the mere fact that there was so much oil sitting around, and finally unloading some of it, was a good reason. "Fine, we will trade, but I doubt you will find much of a market for English goods in The U.E.S.S." Aleksey Sokolov felt sick, and felt like this would be a good time to take a quick sip of vodka to settle his stomach and his nerves. |

"Oh come now gentlemen I highly doubt a woman who openly says that her only job is to the kill her King by legal means would kill her King by means of murder" said the Canadian Rupert Thomson. "Though surely strange customs for sure, we are living on the eve of a new era. I for one have no doubt that the next generation to see a century turn will undoubtedly witness even stranger customs than we have now." "Besides" said Rupert with a chuckle "can someone who by legal means is allow to kill a man be charged with murder?" |

In a very low voice, barely audible, the Harumfian began speaking, "We are building warships, and will continue until we have the greatest fleet in the world. We also have discovered new mineral deposits in our mountains including gold, silver, aluminum, magnesium, borax, aspsetos, coal, diamonds, quartz, sulphur and many others. We are operating lumber mills at breakneck speed in our jungles, producing some of the finest hardwoods in the world. We are prepared to open trade relations with those nations that are in need of our fine products." |

Sebastian IV, though elderly, heard the Harumfian perfectly. In an equally low voice, he replied, "I would be happy to trade with you, as well as facilitate a trade scheme across the Caucasus for your products, if you need it. ZUPAG and BROPAG are at your service." |

The Telosanti gaurdsman had been returning to the duke when the Harumfian spoke. He reported it to the duke, and William went over to take up the conversation. "I hear you are offering for trade. Telosan would be glad to take up your offer. You have also mentioned constructing a great fleet. England, Telosan's ancester, was once a major world power. They held the mightiest fleets in the world's history. While that has fallen into our past, we would wish to revive it. We, with the same goals, can and should work together to achieve it." |

The conference was in shambles, but at least it had served it's purpose. The Nagian diplomat turned to Sokolov, "We shall dispatch a diplomat and would be happy to receive yours." He then addressed the urgent Harumfian who had begun mumbling insistently to those sitting closest to him. "The Imperial-Shogunate would be pleased to arrange trade with all our neighbours and would be pleased to offer more private chambers for all those wishing to finalise trade agreements." The Nagian then addressed the Emperor ((OOC: Sorry RD, didn't catch the name - but he's sure got a lot of titles)), "We would like to keep the late king of Thule's body here - our doctors will examine it for wounds and traces of poison. However, Thule are not allies of Nagehgoeg, if you wish to take responsibility for the king's body we would gladly step aside. If murder has taken place here then we assure you that we shall not stand for it. As it is, 'Claire Freedhelm' is no-longer welcome in Nagehgoeg." Now addressing the collected delegates at large: "It is clear that the people of Thule have their own strange ways. The purpose of this conference was so we could all better understand the different ways of different cultures. But the people of Thule have dishonoured Japan! Showing disregard for law or life then stealing away in the night like fugirikou! Let them have their own ways in their own nation, but we will not tolerate assassins and bandits masquerading as diplomats then running into the night to wreck mischief! Freedhelm-san would have been allowed to leave with little delay if she had acted in the proper manner: we do not believe in imprisoning foreign diplomats. But a disregard for all law is something we will not abide. "Nagehgoeg will have no dealings with Thule. We suggest all nations place a trade Embargo on Thule until they learn to reign in the actions of their assassins. We will not go to war with Thule over this matter. We do not ask them to change the bizarre way they run their nation - let them live in crazed anarchy if that is their will. But if they are to deal with the civilized world then those they send to other nations must abide the laws of those nations." He turned back to the Emperor: "I hope, wise Emperor that you will use your influence to help bring some civility to the diplomats of Thule. We mean no disrespect by suggesting sanctions against a nation that has your approval, but we cannot let this insult lie." With that the Nagian diplomat bowed to those assembled as Nagian guards filled into the scene of the potential murder. "All of you are welcome in Nagehgoeg for as long as you wish - but we ask that you now move to private chambers to conclude your business so we can pay the late king proper respect instead of talking over his body." |

OOC: I had the Emperor's name in my first post, IIRC; I changed it, and actually, may change it again before I have my national idea fully settled, so don't worry about missing it this time. IC: The Emperor nodded. He had developed a certain respect for these Japanese on the farthest corner of Asia. "Yes, you may keep His Majesty's body here and do whatever investigations are necessary. I will leave a delegation here, if you will house them, and would be pleased to invite a delegation from Nagehgoeg to Constantinople. "I take no offense at your asking for a blockade against Thule; I gave my patronage to their king, so this assassination has been a grave dishonor and embarassment to me, and I will condone any vengeance taken against the perpatrators. When I return to the City, I will bring before my council the question of further relations with Thule, as will as concern for the church in those lands." After the Emperor has spoken his assent to the Nagian suggestions, the old Patriarch stepped up, speaking to everyone and noone in particular: "Regicide is among the most monsterous of sins. The regicide images not Christ, but the killers of Christ." |
