Trekon had not noticed that the man was intoxicated. He was however enjoying the short argument ensuing about the man's right to rule. "Friends, though Thule's government is not stable, if they were to join an alliance they could very well grow to potential. Since they do have a colony, I invite them to join Telosan (OOC: Still called Telosan, Angelcynn will come after these conferences) in the new alliance. Telosan, and the other members of the alliance, can strengthen and fortify our neighbor." If he could get Thule to join, he'd be in good position to annex the land should they ever fall. --------------------------- The Duke of Lancashire raised an eyebrow at the Emperor's surprise towards the druken man's intoxication. He knew Trekon to be incompetent, but not that much. He had several good points though. An alliance would be a good thing to drag the countries together and prevent war on multiple fronts. He spoke up for the first time. "Respectable gentlemen...and madam...of the International Conference. While the honorable emperor of Telosan and I disagree on many points, I stand by his decision to form an alliance." "It would be in all our best interests, as this would encourage inter-alliance trade, bolstering all our economies. It would bind us together, putting us on favorable terms for negotiations. For every ally, that is one less potential enemy, one less threat. For every ally, that is one more friend who can come to your aid in your times of troubles." "Once again, the emperor brings another good point. He has thus invited the Irish Empire to join us. I believe this would be monumental in ending the vast sea of blood that has been spilled by our people in our past aggressions." "I would invite all of you to join our alliegence. However, in our interests, and many other's interests, that we colony holding countries band together. We colonial empires protecting each other and preventing the need for hostilities in our nearlying colonies." At this he sat, nodding to Trekon, who looked a painful mix between being mortified and appalled. |

Greg Turner leaned in to speak more intimately with his Canadian and Soviet State counterparts. "Gentlemen, a trade agreement between our countries would mean great prosperity for us all, and be achieved without the false niceties that accompany European dealings. We of the Federation look upon all nations as equals, so long as you are willing to do the same. Race is an issue of great contention for some, though it pains me to say it." |

Adjusting his spectacles in front of the American and Soviet Delegates. "The Dominion of Canada would have no problems establishing relations with both of your fine nations. Both of your nations in one way or another value democracy and the freedom of humanity. Though it is questionable whether or not your societies value equality among men I am certainly not here to judge and if anything it would be an honor for Canadians to learn from both your countries. If it pleases your governments as I know it would my own, an exchange of embassy would certainly be in order. Such a move would open the lines of communication between our nations and allow for a more free and constant exchange of ideas. Not to mention allowing our governments to stay in contact with one another in times of nation security and global destabilization. After all gentlemen, it is the dawning of a new age and there is no telling what tomorrow may bring." Edited by NRE, Dec 13 2008, 10:23 PM.

Nodding happily, Turner betrayed his youth with enthusiasm. "Indeed, a most excellent proposition! An exchange of embassies will aid our respective nations in matters of trade and state alike in the days to come, days which I hope to peaceful and prosperous, God willing" |

"Good," Aleksey Sokolov thought to himself, "The Americans and Canadians are open to this after all." "An exchange of embassies would be best," Aleksey Sokolov stated coolly, unlike the American, "In my nation we have only the one race, and have never seen a negro, so the issue of racial equality has never been raised. And every person in my county has a voice, such is the goal of communism." |

"Oh my, oh my, oh my!" was heard coming from the little Harumfian sitting on his chair by the wall. "What to do? Oh my, oh my." He was confused, since no one took the time to explain to him what poweres, if any, he had to negotiate, or what limits, if any, there might be. He didn't want to miss a chance at a global allience. "Oh my!" |

Xipilli Amoxtli Tonatiuh fidgeted in his seat at the conference table. The cool air and humidity sent chills down his back underneath his seemingly warm alpaca poncho. What a precedent, the very first Mexica representative at a global summit - he'd better not embarrass his supreme ruler, Tlatoani Cuauhtemoc III of Ozomatlan. Chosen for his linguistic abilities and knowledge of Western ways, as learned during his childhood from his Atlantean bosses at the docks of Tajin, he leaned over to grab a pen sitting in front of his place in an inkwell with his left hand, and began casually taking notes whenever something pertinent to his majesty was uttered. His presence was almost undetectable, if it wasn't for his most obvious facial piercings. |

"Oh, of course, how rude of me. My name is Claire Freedhelm, but you can call me Claire. If you must use an honorific, Sov. will do, short for Sovereign." I suppose I should explain a bit about the structure of Thulean... err... government. While many nations have recognized the need for checks and balances as a means of preventing the dangerous concentration of power, Thule takes that principle one step further. My official position within the Kingdom of Thule is..." she stopped to clear her throat, "Royal Assassin-In-Chief." My primary job is to slit this poor drunkard's throat if he should attempt to violate the rights of the Sovereign Individuals of Thule. If I appear to be speaking presumptuously when I make official statements on behalf of the king, know that I do so only in order to protect him from making a fool of himself, thus relieving me of my need to kill him." She smiled sweetly and innocently, which incidentally made her even more attractive. Of course, she had made up this 'Royal Assassin-In-Chief' nonsense on the spot, but that didn't make it any less true. She fully intended to carry out her responsibilities as a member of the Tree of Liberty, (an underground anarchist organization that had assassinated the last 12 kings of Thule for being tyrants, (or, in other words, attempting to exercise any power whatsoever.)) And Claire had decided that now was as good a time as any to institutionalize this tradition. She waited for the translators to finish speaking and continued smiling as she observed the reaction to her speech. |

The O'Neill raised an eyebrow. "While Thule is usually unorthodox in its dealings, I have never heard of such a position in its government before. I would see the documentation for such a position, and the proof of your occupation of it, before I would believe what you just stated." |

The Emperor was silent for a long while after Claire's speech. Finally, the grim looking man with his stoic demeanor started to chuckle. And eventually that low chuckled emerged into a hearty laugh. He clapped his hands before announcing in Greek: "Good show Ragnar! I had not known you would be bringing entertainment. I had not at first understood the obscure Thulean humor, but now that I do, this is marvelous jest!" The rest of the Romaic delegation laughed uneasily beside the emperor. Aleksey Sokolov turned to the host, the issue of trade had been an important one for The U.E.S.S. Already he had found the Americans and Canadians all too willing, but now the largest deal of the night for the U.E.S.S was with Nag Ehgoeg. For one, it was the U.E.S.S nearest neighbor, for another reason the Nagians had a booming economy, and access to that would greatly help the growing U.E.S.S. "My great host, seeing that the rest of the delegations are busy laughing at the Thulean government, I feel that this be a good time to discuss the matters of trade. We know that you nation is in need of oil, while we are overflowing with it." Aleksey Sokolov spoke kindly, he was after all the General of Foreign Affairs.

Royal Assassin-In-Chief, Trekon thought, we could use one of them for Duke William. As he laughed with the others, he saw the duke walk over to the host and U.E.S.S. representative. Hope he doesn't start a war. ------------------------------ Royal Assassin-In-Chief, William thought, we could use one of them for the Emperor. He saw the Harmuf representative from the corner of his eye. He'd have to talk to him before he fainted. Then William overheard the U.E.S.S. and Nag Ehgoeg talking of trade agreements through the din of laughter and walked over to join them. Well, his country came first. "Greetings, friends. I heard you talking of trade relations, and was interrested if we of Telosan could get involved." He turns to the host, "And you, sir, I thank you for having this conference. It was definatly a wise option on the part of your government. Edited by Telosan, Dec 15 2008, 05:31 PM.

At this, Claire took a blank scrap from the shredded Iqbal Declaration and quickly scrawled on it with her eyeliner pencil: She slid the paper and pencil across the table to the king, who looked at it rather blankly for a few moments and then signed it. Claire took the suddenly official document and slid it across the table to the Irish King. |

Aleksey Sokolov chuckled at the Nagian remark, "The idea of a communist nations is a new one, and I understand your ancient nation's view of my newer nations, but being neighbors, it is best that we know and understand each other. Perhaps if we could exchange embassies?" Aleksey Sokolov had noticed that Englishman, but he made it painfully noticeable that he was finishing with the Nagian. But while he was waiting for the translators he turned to the English man, and in heavily accented English stated, "In The U.E.S.S we do not trust Europeans, but I allow you to state your case, for it is with Russia that we have our fight." OOC: I'm going to assume Karl Marx was in our history Also I view the U.E.S.S-Russian relation as this, Russia ignores the U.E.S.S and the U.E.S.S hates Russia. And I love it E Edited by Menhad, Dec 15 2008, 10:20 PM.

The Emperor made a slight signal with one his hands, and one of the Greeks leaned over and slid the statement away from the Irishman and toward the Emperor. With a curious smile, the Emperor, serious once more, carefully read the paper, and then put it down. He smiled slightly, took out a pen, and marked it with his imperial veto, which he held as Vicegerent of God over all the kings of the earth. Passing it back, he shook his head and started laughing again. "Ragnar, you old fool," he muttered in Greek, "Where do you find such characters? Nobody else can do this kind of thing, you crazy Northman. You must visit the City again sometime..." |

Duke William had not meant to intrude on the conversation, but when the U.E.S.S. man turned to him he said, "My apologies, sir, never meant to interrupt. However, you have suggested embassies with our host. While you do not trust Europeans, having a friendly faction in the western world could do you a great deal of good. I should like to send embassies to you, and you to us. As well as open trade relations." The interpreters returned and the duke stepped back to let them finish thier conversation. ----------------------------------------- "That's really a position? I need to get one of those...", Trekon muttered. When the people around him started looking at him, he realized he spoke aloud. "Did I say that out loud? Was just fooling around. Back to buisness." He turned to Claire, "Ma'am, if he excercises any power whatsoever, how is he to rule? Wouldn't he be excercising power by granting you the power to kill him?" |

Trekon jumped from his chair. "What?! Why did you do that?! That's treason in any normal country!" He was obviously very shaken to have cause the death of his colleague, even though Claire had done nothing to him visibly. -------------------------- William heard Trekon shout. Turning around, he saw King Ragnar dead, and his 'assasin-in-chief' laughing. He stepped into the shouts of surprise with a booming voice, "Madam, please excuse my emperor. He was foolishly taken by surprise, not realizing you were serious. While your country is...unorthodox, it is still a fine country." The duke turned towards Ragnar, "I would, however, like to know how a king may rule if he isn't permitted to enact any legislature on penalty of death? Have you not just wiped out your monarchy?" |

The O'Neill was shocked to see this happen at this conference. What kind of country doesn't give its monarch proper medical attention? "Well, someone get him medical help!" He waited for proper actions to take place before speaking again. "I propose immediate suspension of this conference. We should reconvene when proper funerary rights for the King of Thule have been carried out." |
