Assuming prices are the same, what would you recommend and why? Also, can TV output be hooked up to surround sound system???? |

http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv-plasmavslcd.shtml Have fun with this site. I prefer LCD personally, but I tend to be on a computer more often than watching TV |

When it comes to screens, I always vote bigger. :P Have a old ~60" at home. My dad was even so crazy as to buy a 23" LCD Widescreen TV to use as his computer screen. He constantly plays Medieval II on it... |

As I'm assuming you aren't the gamer type, I'd support Plasma. If on the off chance you are, get LCD, because Plasma has this terrible thing where it can burn images into the screen... Actually, that can happen if you watch a lot of sports too, I believe... Hm. Undecided. I have an LCD myself and it's quite sweet. |

Is this for a sunny room or a dark room (like in a basement)? |

To qualify this, there are ways to deal with "burn in" on plasma TVs and some models may have features designed to cope with this. This is a good article: http://www.cnet.com/1990-11488_1-6408444-1.html So, I think that that issue can be coped with well enough that I would go for the plasma TV personally. I have an LCD TV myself, but if I had the money and motive to buy a new TV, I think I would probably pursue a plasma. |

How about a Starcraft tournament on battle.net? Honestly, a 60 inch screen for a game that has a max resolution of 640x480... and I was playing at the TV's native res (2500x1600 or something). When a nuclear launch was detected I knew RIGHT where it was going. Also massed carriers looked like a beautiful display of destruction and gore |

For the same size: Plasma => dark rooms, less expansive LCD => everywhere, more expansive However, LCDs are better for gamers than Plasma. So, from my perspective, I'd go with LCD. |

And 3 inches difference doesn't matter much, unless we are talking about something else. ;) |

Well, in my case, I'm not giving up 10% of my length for . . . . oh, wait, we are talking about something else! My biggest fear is LCD pixel's failing. Plasma doesn't have that problem. Oh honk. This is going to be a tough choise and by the time I make up my mind, they'll probably have the sales off. |

I was told by a local TV repair guy that I would trust that plasma is not the way to go and that you'll get far more trouble from it than you would LCD. He told me he sees more plasmas than he ever does LCD, so I voted LCD. |

LCDs have a much better lifespan, better viewing angle, lower running cost, shorter response time, and sharper picture. They definitely cost more, unfortunately.

My answer is always the same. Neither. Buy a HD projector or wait for Organic LCD screens. Projecting is superior to screens that are of a fixed size and resolution. Organic LCD gives superior quality than plasma with all the advantages of LCD. |
