I just found this site: http://www.thepignextdoor.com/ Does anyone else love bacon here? Anyone want to discuss bacon here? |

This thread is, has been, and will be composed of pure win. Bacon is the one of the most delicious foods on the planet, second only to the bacon-mushroom-swiss cheeseburger. That is all. |

Oh, I love that kind of burger! BTW, an excellent hors d'oeuvre is bacon-wrapped quail. I'm quite glad to know you are a bacon fan, Raf. You always seemd like an upstanding guy, and now it is confirmed. |

Bacon is the Food of the Gods!! Tonight I am having a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich for dinner, heavy on the bacon. Good, thick-sliced maple cured bacon  Ahh, bacon! |

I oddly don't like bacon by itself. Usually because it's either too salty or too greasy. There are times when it's made just right, though. I like it on hamburgers, it egg and cheese biscuits or taquitos, or in CHOWDA! |

Now, here's the question: crunchy or chewy? I'm feeling bold enough to declare my allegiance to the chewy crowd, so long as it is still fully cooked. There's nothing worse than a bite of raw bacon fat. |

Wow, I have not been back on this site in quite some time and I come to find a post about bacon. I do love the bacon, but I rarely eat it since it's so bad for you. Its one of those things I can knowingly cut out. Except of course when its a cream cheese jalapeno popper wrapped in maple cured bacon and grilled. Give me a Pacifico or a mojito and a plate of those and I will gladly spend some more time at the gym. BTW - crispy for me. |

Great guys; glad to know that there are so many of us here :D Ibrium, I know bacon is bad for me, but if I had to avoid bacon... well it honestly wouldn't be worth it to me  I cannot assign myself to crunchy or chewy... I love all bacon too much to discriminate. |

I used to love bacon... That's not true.... I still love bacon! But alas, I have given up meat indefinitely in an attempt to purify my body and soul. Veggie baco-bits, though they do sate my bacon cravings when necessary, just aren't the same... As for crunchy or chewy, I prefer my pig flesh, (or veggie substitute pig flesh,) thick cut, but well done enough that there's still an occasional crunch, and as devoid of excess uncooked fat as possible. |

There's a guy that goes to college here called Beggin. I call him Beggin' Strips. Others call him bacon bits. Crunchy bacon for me. If it's not crunchy, then it's probably to greasy. I guess this is a healthy dislike. |

Bacon should be cooked so that the fatty parts are firm, but not totally dry or burnt. Alsao, I have lost 20 lbs on a diet that encourages bacon frequently, AND my cholesterol AND triglicerides have dropped at the same time. Worst bacon experience of my life: Ordered Bacon and Eggs for breakfast in Amsterdam while on vacation and was served just slightly warmed, greasy, fatty, wiggly soft bacon. Be very careful when ordering bacon in pig-eating nations like Holland, Germany, etc, etc. |

Maybe it is because I can eat anything and not gain weight, but I honestly could care less how bad of food I eat....... I have watched what I ate for an extended period of time during one point in my life, and that was my senior year of track... I cared soo much it pushed me to do crazy things in other aspects of my life! Never again, unless I do in fact start getting close to the olympics, by which point I will hopefully have a trainer feeding me steriod salads.... Otherwise though, never! It's like the State of New York banning Trans Fat at fast food restaurants.... GARBAGE. When I go to get fast food, I'm looking to get that little trans fat in me. I mean, what good is eating KFC if you aren't killing a little part of you every time you do it! ;) Edited by flumes, Nov 21 2008, 10:30 AM.

Well, ** put in random smart-ass sexual inuendo here **, plus, do you have any idea how unhealthy not eating meat is? You'll turn into mush, or more mush than you already are! Now, to describe my diet: Breakfast - Either Bowl of Wheaties, Bowl or Cheerios or the occasional English Muffin slathered with Bitter Orange Marbalade (sp??) Mid-morning Snack - 1 apple Lunch - One sandwich with three pieces of either olive loaf or turkey on an union roll, no butter Dinner - either 2 Banquet TV Dinners (2 x 400 cal), 2 hot dogs (Vienna all beef), 1/2 lb bacon on onion roll with 1 fried egg and one slice of cheese Snacks - Naturally dark olives Beverages during the day, Cinnamin-infused tea or green tea Now, in spite of the apparent unhealthy nature of this diet, let me note how I am pumping anti-oxidants into my body with the apples, dark olives and green tea; and of course there is the benefit from the cinnamin, and whole grains. The rest is really just eating relatively light. Now, several times a week I may have for dinner Chineese Veggies in a broth with cooked chicken bits (no fat), or a chicken soup loaded with whatever veggies are healthy, and maybe some rice tossed in, and maybe once a month I'll get 5 fried chicken wings at Meijers to satisfy that craving, but I have totally cut out pizza, hamburgers and other fast food from my diet. As for evening beverages, I'll suck down three or four glasses of a Souvignon Blanc over the course of the evening, and that's about it (totally gave up hard alcohol except for the occasional martini (gin and olive, with vermouth), manhattan (bar whiskey, sweet vermouth, splash of water) or scotch rocks (single malt, iced lightly) when out on the weekend). Once a month I might have a beer with lunch, but it will be a dark, hoppy stout - lower on calories (or a Guiness, which has fewer calories than most light beers). So, basically, I haven't given much up (except most red meat) just really cut back on the portions. |

I LOVE bacon. Nothing better than it. Crispy is great, but chewy tends to give you more of a taste. Great...now I want some. |

Short of Bacon on Pizza, Bacon is my favorite thing to gnaw on. Period. I am a bit picky when it comes to its texture, it can't be too crunchy, but it can't be a blob of goo, either. Something crisp, but not burnt, and something to chew on, but not limp. Bacon, Eggs, Toast, Pancakes, Sausage and Ham is the ideal breakfast my Grandmother used to cook up for the whole family, years ago before she passed back in 2000. Everyone always hoped she was making home made Slammers for breakfast and a pot of Chili or Spaghetti for dinner. Everyone, and I mean -everyone- loved it. I miss her cooking, but I will always miss her more than any meal, God rest her soul. Can't believe its almost been a decade... :( BUT ... While we're on the topic of any sort of food, and to throw something entirely unrelated to bacon out there... Yesterday I got hammered with something I always wanted to do, in the realm of edibles, anyway. A fair amount of people picture chocolate as being sweet, tasty, delicious, and even addicting. I do hereby dare that same group to try raw, 100%, unsweetened, unadulterated chocolate. I can FINALLY and belatedly say I've been there, done that. Same "feel good" experience as the sweetened version, but certainly none bit agreeable in palatability. It's nowhere near as fattening as bacon, either, if you can stand the taste of it. But since I have hyperthyroidism, no food gets me down nor grows me wide. Not even bacon. Or *any* chocolate for that matter. |
