Hmm. All depends on your point of view I suppose. Society is more or less divided into sectors as it is, and all sectors either despise, love, or are indifferent to the other sectors. More or less, the entire society is a "separate but equal to" sort of thing; it simply masks this with affirmative action, which in reality is preferential treatment. Homosexuals will always be their own sector of society, despised by some sectors and admired by others. Many other minorities are much the same. Mormons, I think, are in a sector they shouldn't be. They stand with the "moral" people of society, when they themselves, when you dig deep enough, are some of the most immoral. Not to say most Mormon individuals are immoral, but many of the beliefs within their religion (which many Mormons do not know, and these beliefs have been changed over time to gain more members) are indeed immoral. I personally am still against gay marriage. It bothers me since its gay. Simple. But if I were in a political position, I would allow it under the guise of civil unions. You can't make everyone happy, but you can strike a balance. Now if I were a dictator... let's just say there would be a lot of brainwashing involved because I'm evil like that. I would most certainly start with the Mormons. Though my friend Inanis always said we should keep the last Mormon in a cage and have him read from his book to amuse us and our guests. Inanis is a sadistic bastard plain and simple, but that unfortunately tends to rub off. We might hear on the news about a Wal-Mart being destroyed soon enough... |

I've found that upon closer inspection, individuals within supposed "sectors" tend to defy exterior labeling and often act with little or no regard to whether what they're doing conforms to any defined group, often belonging to many different and unrelated groupings at the same time, often loving, despising, and being indifferent to these other perceived groups all at the same time. Attempts to mentally, scientifically, or otherwise divide up society into sectors tend to be: at best a waste of time, at worst a grave injustice, and always an inevitable failure. The sheer diversity of humanity, (a beautiful source of joy for those who revel in it and a source of unending frustration for those who want the universe to be a nice, tidy, orderly place,) is what makes this so. The most damned thing in the universe is the individual. No matter how hard leaders, priests, scientists, or groups attempt to press and force the individual into a neat, safe, defined box, they always end up either breaking the individual, or breaking the box, or breaking both, in the process. |

Back on point: Filo, how is your research coming regarding a green card? Also, if you are interested in studying here, are you interested in Archeology or Anthropology, or what? I have a major University about 75 feet from my door, and could talk to some of the department heads about what opportunities might be about, if you would like. |
