Basically I'm wondering what do you guys see as more important in a war RP, blasting through any enemy territory that you can, or focusing on the important areas, like the capital, industrial heartland, etc... I've always liked the decapitation theory... you take away the nerve-center of a country, and the rest just falls apart (well, that's an extremely simple way of putting it, but it's the general glossed over idea) Edited by Ulgania, Sep 25 2008, 11:57 AM.

I prefer the latter as well, but in most cases, you need to plow through the whole country-side to take out the head of the government, or you end up with your enemy at your rear. The invasion of NH is a perfect example - huge pitched battles for a beach-head, and a foot-by-foot battle toward the capital which, once taken, ended the war. Think of Germany and WWII. Now, with nukes available, things might be different, but you usually can't win by JUST bombing the crap out of the capital - think of London in WWII as well. |

Germany never got boots on the ground in England though, and Japan was facing utter-destruction... During the Cold War though, escalation eventually reached the idea of mutually assured destruction, with was soon replaced with the nuclear utilization theory to limit destruction that could have ripple effects on the rest of the world (especially economically) But, since there's only one gigantic world-wide superpower in NSWR that might now work as well, unless you broke it down to regional economies. Realistically speaking, if Ulgania went down, a handful of African and Middle Eastern economies would suffer (and maybe Porcu...) but since we don't do the same kind of interdependent economic stuff that you see in the real world that wouldn't hold the same sway, making a complete destruction of Ulgania more likely. However, looking at Espanora, I'm starting things by symbolically destroying the capital, then seeing what communist would do without that symbol. Heh. |

Taking the capital won't always win a war. Take the US or Russia for example (in RL). If you took the capital, the war would not end. The population of the countries is simply to high and patriotic to give up. Likely government officials would move away from the capital (or underground) if it looked sure the enemy was to take it. In Russia's case in WWII, they didn't, instead holding off a battalion of Panzers with one KV tank, and winning (why Russia is awesome). But this brings forward another point: you likely will never reach the capital of such a people anyways. Resistance is simple too high. I don't know of any in game equivalents of this. Maybe the Roman Empire, maybe Nag Eghoeg. Name others off if you wish. (Definitely Ireland as far as resistance. Take their capital, kill half of them off, and they will still fight you to the death.) |

I prefer a good old fashioned slaughter. Kill them all, let God sort them out. |
