Commonwealth of Transcaucasia Estbalished

Yerevan: After months of economic turmoil, civil unrest, and war; leaders of the Transcaucasus announced today the establishment of a Commonwealth of Transcaucasia. The Commonwealth, a loose alliance of Trancaucasian states, is designed to serve the economic, diplomatic, and defense interests of the region.

"This Commonwealth is a historic first for a region that has been bitterly divided since the Georgian War" recently elected Premier Natela Pirosmani of the Southern Republic of Georgia told reporters at a news conference in Tbilisi following the Commonwealth announcement. Premier Pirosmani and the Menshevik's recently won elections, ousting long-time parliament majority party, the United Republicans. "However, the Commonwealth makes sense especially here in Georgia where already our people have accepted that change is necessary. While we may still have many roads to cross before a deeper relationship can be established between the states of Transcaucasia, I believe that the Commonwealth is the first set and shall provide the best forum, for establishing better relations." The news of the Commonwealth comes as the two Georgia's (both the Southern Republic and the recently seceded Northern Georgia) have begun talks of uniting again into a single state. This comes as a result of the Northern Georgians fighting a bitter civil war against the Azerbaijani-dominated Military Republic. Uniting the two Georgia's into a single state and establishing the Commonwealth will effectively end almost all parts of the the Guranburg Peace Accords. "We have already taken into consideration that the Guranburg Peace Accords are severely out of date and out of touch with the will of Transcaucasia." Newly appointed Generalissimo Besiki Asatiani told reporters. "We will be contacting the remaining nations still in existence and hold a summit here in Transcaucasia. A new charter is desired by our people but we understand to get it we must have the permission of those still upholding the Guranburg Accords."

While the Georgian Premier, Azerbaijani Generalissimo, and the newly elected Armenian Prime Minister Nicholas Aganoor have praised the creation of Commonwealth as a new era of cooperation, some political analysts simply believe the Commonwealth of created out of necessity. "While I certainly hope that this Commonwealth indeed fosters new relations between Transcaucasian nations I think we should realize that this cooperation is more out of economic necessity." professor Georgi Khutsiev, chairman of the political department of Tbilisi University stated. "What I think we must realize is that the Commonwealth's real main goal is to bring about economic stability into a region that has been suffering under recession. The Azerbaijani have oil, but with the loss of Northern Georgia, have no effective way of getting it to world markets. The Georgians and Armenians understand this and in hopes of reaping some of the profits. We can only hope that this tactic will end in success and that regional wealth will indeed invoke cooperation and not animosity between the states in the end." Despite some criticism, most in Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan seem generally optimistic over the creation of the Commonwealth. However, despite relative optimism there are still many challenges that face the Commonwealth. First and foremost is a negotiation with former signatories of the Guranburg Treaty, namely the Scythirian and Russian Empires. With Southern and Northern Georgia seeking to unite, this is seen as a crucial step. Secondly, as northern Georgia seeks to unite with Southern Georgia the authorities in Abkhazia seek full autonomy and sovereignty as a independent state. A known bastion for Russian sympathizers, Abkhazia wishes to been its own state within the Commonwealth however there are many in the two Georgia's and Azerbaijan who disagree. Finding solutions to these problems will be the first true test of this new fragile alliance.

Campaigning Begins, the future of Transcaucasia to be set

Tibilisi: With the successful creation of the Treaty of Transcaucasia, the nations of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan have begun the process of integration as the new single state of Transcaucasia. In terms of integration, political factions have emerged and campaigning has begun to determine the new government of the state. Already a faction known as the National Unity Party has gained an early lead in polls across the region.

"In this time of uncertainty, the peoples of the Transcaucasus need unity, they need strong leadership, and they need a political movement that clearly establishes for the people a future and purpose." party leader Mikail Isakhanli told supporters at a recent party rally. "We are that political party, we have a purpose and we have a plan for the future. Our party holds firm to the beliefs that are shared throughout the Transcaucasus and with the support of the people we will lead Transcaucasia out of obscurity and towards the international recognition they desire and deserve." The party, who began in Azerbaijan, has already spread and has numerous supporters in both Georgia and Armenia. Politically, the party is running on a platform which stresses the creation of a single, national face for Transcaucasia and promoting that nationalism over the current diversity of the region. Economically, they propose a third-way economic plan that mixes private enterprises with state-own industries. They stand strongly opposed to capitalism, communism, and some conservatism that has been promoted by other political factions building in opposition to them. Opposition members however, have criticized National Unity for being strong-handed in their politics and using scare tactics to get votes. Some have even gone as far as to accuse them of intimidation tactics used to discourage support for other factions.

Perhaps the strongest opposition so far to National Unity are the United Conservatives, a monarchist faction that began out of Georgia and has made strong inroads into Armenia, marginal success with Azerbaijani. "The people of Transcaucasia deserve a successful, prosperous, and secure future. To this end, what Transcaucasia needs is a figure, a individual to whom can embody the values and beliefs all Transcaucasians hold dear. What this region, this new state needs, is a monarchy!" The United Conservatives, lead by Georgian Giorgi Babluani, are running on a policy of creating a monarchy for the region. They propose the recognition of Prince David Bagrationi II, son of Prince George Demetrevich Gruzinsky XIII and Princess Maria Alexandervicha Mukhrani. Though still an infant, Prince David is the first true Bagrationi Prince in generations. "The Bagrationi dynasty once brought peace to many territories of this region in the past and they can do it again. A monarchy ensure political stability and a bedrock on which we, the people, and build a future." The United Conservatives are strong supporters of Orthodox Christianity. Their platform emphasizes the role of free market decision making in fostering economic prosperity. They favor laissez-faire free markets, economic liberty, fiscal conservatism, personal responsibility, and policies supporting business. They express the belief that there should be a "safety net" to assist the less fortunate; however, they tend to believe the private sector is more effective in helping the poor than government is; as a result, support giving government grants to faith-based and other private charitable organizations to supplant welfare spending. The United Conservatives are pro-life and oppose abortion on religious and moral grounds, and favor faith-based initiatives.

Other political factions that have begun campaign are the Democratic-Republicans, Mensheviks, and Communits. The Democratic-Republicans are running on a platform that emphasizes the role of free markets and individual achievement as the primary factors behind economic prosperity. They favor laissez-faire economics, diplomacy over military action, and religious freedom. They hold semi-secular values on issues such as marriage, developmental science and technology, and other issue that have religious ramifications. Immigration and cultural diversity is deemed positive and the Democratic-Republicans favor cultural pluralism, a system in which immigrants retain their native culture in addition to adopting their new culture. The Mensheviks and Communists, both old factions that have existed int he region for many generations, are both running on platforms that speak to the history of both political movements and the successes they've had in the past. The Mensheviks, however, has been said to be in talks with Democratic-Republican leaders though no official word has come out of either camp. The talks, some suggests, are in creating a political coalition between the two parties on their common platform of democratic values. Though the Mensheviks are a strong socialists political faction, many believe a Democratic-Republic alliance with the Mensheviks would help lead the two parties to success over National Unity and the United Conservatives.

With the future of the region at stake, all factions intend to make it a bitter political battle until the end. Officials with the provisional government currently in place in Transcaucasia have stated that they feel very confident that everything need for a free and fair election across the region will be in place by the time of the scheduled elections, which is about two months away. "We already have election central offices overseen by our personnel in all three countries" David Marjanishvili, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Provisional Government said in a press conference earlier this week. "We are working diligently with the governments of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan to complete a comprehensive data base of eligible voters. This data base will then be broken down into local districts and citizens will then be told where to go vote. The database will create a safeguard against voter fraud and other problems that could arise in this process." While outside observers are less confident about the regions ability to hold free and fair elections, it will nevertheless be interesting to see the results of this election as it will mark a new course of history for the region.

Campaigning Getting Ugly, Chairman Calls for Civility

Tibilisi: Political assassinations within the last month have prompted Chairman David Marjanishvili of the provisional government to speak out, for the first time, since to the start of the campaign season. Urging restraint, civility, and peace; the Chairman's message was one of hope and one of warning for those hoping to subvert what otherwise could be the first free election in decades for the region.

"These are certainly hopeful times for the peoples of Transcaucasia" Chairman Marjanishvili told reports at a press conference held just outside his office in Rustavi. "We draw ever closer, with the passing of each week, towards what will undoubtedly be an unprecedented point in our history and certainly one that all hope will herald in a new era for this region. However, as we look forward it seems that we cannot escape some of the darkest parts of our trouble past. The last few weeks have seen the death of several political leaders. While local law officials continue to bring those who have perpetrated these crimes to justice, I come to you with a request for peace. So many have already lost their lives to the differences that have divided us. Please do not spill more blood now while we are so close to achieving true peace in our lifetime." Though his tone at the beginning was somber, the Chairman was quick to point out the extent of his power. "While I may only head a provisional government, make no mistake that I am not without power. If I must I will use everything in my arsenal, diplomatic and otherwise, to ensure that this violence ends and that these elections go without incident." While the Chairman took questions from the media, the Q&A session was indeed short and the answers were even shorter. The Chairman's calls for peace and threats of action comes as both Niko Tordia of the Menshivik Party in Tbilisi and Mikhail Seyidzadeh of the National Unity Party in Baku were both assassinated in recent days. In Tordia's cause, evidence on the scene suggests the murder is connect to the Democratic-Republican Party. Party leader Joseph Sarkisian however has deny such actions as is accusing political rivals of attempting muddy the party's image, stating as such in a message released to the media.

"This attack was in no way perpetrated by the Democratic-Republicans. We are a party of liberty, of freedom, of justice and there is no way that a member of our party would compromise these beliefs in such an atrocious way." In recent days, the Democratic-Republican party has been making headway in some polls. Many attribute their rising success on a new campaign strategy that has had them targeting more of the youth of the region as well as a string of new attack adds against rivals parties, specifically the National Unity and the United Conservatives who remain leading parties. Local officials in Tbilisi have refused to comment on the specifics of the case, as their investigation is still on going however, the police have released their own statements. "While our investigation remains on going, it is true that evidence implicating a member or members of the Democratic-Republicans have been found. However, as of yet we have made no arrests and are not implicating anyone at this time until we have all the evidence and a true picture of the events that unfolded." This is more than what officials have in the deaths of Mikhail Seyidzadeh of Baku, who was apparently also poisoned and there is still more questions than answers for the office bombing of Aleksandr Lazarev. These events however, as Chairman Marjanishvili pointed out, are not new events for the troubled history of Transcaucasia. Following the bloody Georgian War, the region has been embroiled with terrorism, political assassinations, and open warfare between nations and political groups. The total death toll following the Georgian war for the decades of violence may never be known but as elections draw every closer, many hope that the end of the violence era is upon them and the beginning of an era of peace is just over the horizon.

Despite their loss, Menshevik leaders pledge to continue their fight for both their principles as well as their supports. This recent attack however, has left a hole in Tbilisi. Communists seem most geared to exploit this deficiency of the Mensheviks. Communist supports have been out in the city in full force. A literal explosion of supporters have taken to the streets and held small rallies to further their cause while others have taken to street corners where pamphlets are being passed out by the hundreds. Once seen as the last-place party of this electoral race, is now geared to put the Mensheviks behind them and soon threaten the Democratic-Republicans for a chance to contend against the front runners of the race as it now stands.

PROV. GOVERNMENT ACTS FOR GOOD OF THE PEOPLE

Tibilisi: A spokesman for the Provisional Government of Transcaucasia announced today that the government was authorizing the deployment of troops in response to the growing violence in the country. This coming just days after a string of assassination attempts claim the lives of Giorgi Bakradze, Petre Kikodze, and Geno Kantaria. Though a survivor, Mr. Kantaria remains in a comma.

"The attacks and growing violence in this country must come to a halt" spokesman Alexander Patarshvili told reporters at a small press conference. "These assassinations are putting a stain on the very credibility of our people having the ability to operate under our own. A free and fair election is what the provisional government has promised the people of the region and it is what we intend to deliver. To that end, the provisional government is authorizing the deployment of military personnel to aid in the local law enforcement of those major cities where political parties are operating most heavily. We are also assigning military personnel to leaders, both national and local, to aide in the personal protection of these people. Now is not the time to allow fear to grip the people of Transcaucasia. For too long we have sat in the shadows, fearing that our people had no better future than to live in the squander and rumble left to us by our forefathers. Now is the time for hope, the time for action, and the time of the people's voice." Spokesman Patarshvili took a few questions from the crowd after his announcement, most concerning the announcement made. Perhaps the most pertinent question being how soon the troops would begin arriving to which the spokesman answered immediately.

The voilent has certainly been a concern for many in the region since campaigning began several weeks ago. To date, five political leaders have been assassinated and one, Geno Kantaria who was the most recent victim of a suspected assassination attempt, remains in a comma. For some, the assassinations have been a new point of interest in open debates between the parties with much finger pointing as to the culprits behind the attacks. Still others have been voicing their concerns over outside interference being the source of the violence. While both sides have merit to their arguments, neither have provided sufficient evidence in order to back their claims as true fact. Politically speaking, the region is at a campaign cross-roads and there is as of now no clear leading party. Though strongest at the start, both the National Unity Party and United Conservatives have since suffered in the polls, allowing initially for the rise of the Democratic-Republicans. However, today the three are now having the share close numbers with the Mensheviks and Communists, leading to the virtual stalemate between the parties. Knowing that eventually someone will lead the way forward, many fear that this break in the stalemate will only come with increased violence despite the government's efforts to create the opposite.

FIRES CHANGE THE COURSE OF ELECTIONS

Tibilisi: In yet another case of violence in Transcaucasia, the luxurious hotel Аҟәа burnt to the ground yesterday in the heart of Sukhumi. The fire is reported to have killed almost 100 people, including virtually every high-ranking party official in the United Conservative party. The fire comes only twenty-four hours after a suspicious fire destroyed a historic warehouse.

"Our initial investigation points to a faulty boiler as the cause of the fire" Emergency Chief Alexandre Amilakhvari told reporters at a press conference. "The building, which was initially constructed in 1920, has seen several renovations over the years but has for the most part remained the same building as it was then. The heating system was virtually the same as the system that was initially installed in the building. We are unaware at this time if any sort of tampering was done to the system or if the system was indeed unfit for use but somehow was inspected and allowed to remain." Though Chief Amilakhvari admitted that there remained more questions than answers at the present time, he vowed that the investigation would be thorough. Not long after the press conference held by Chief Amilakhvari, a second press conference was held by the remaining leaders of the United Conservatives, senior most among them being Zurab Beritashvili. "The deaths of many in our party is weighing heavily on our hearts and their lives will never be forgotten by those of us fortunate enough to work so close with them. Most significant to me, was Vladimir Tsutsunava, our party leader. He was a man with purpose and a man with vision. He felt passionately about the future of this region and believed strongly that our future would be most prosperous with a restoration of the Georgian Monarchy. He believed through the monarchy our region would at least see stability, our people finally feel safe, and our children be allowed a truly prosperous future. While I, and the remainder of the party, maintain these beliefs we are also faced with the reality of our situation. Our party has lost many and we cannot, in full confidence of those of us who remain, retain the integrity of this party. That is why, with a heavy and somber heart, I have been instructed by the party to announce our withdrawal from the current elections. While we intend to remain a strong force for our beliefs and ideals in Transcaucasia, we recognize the need to withdraw ourselves at this time."

While many voters must now come to terms with the news of the United Conservative's withdrawal, other voters are having to decide whether to continue their support at all for another party, the Democratic-Republicans. Twenty-four hours before the fire in Sukhumi, another fire in the warehouse district of Yerevan claimed the life of one of the city's oldest structure. The warehouse, dating back to the 1940s, was currently operating as a major distribution center for the Democratic-Republicans and their new campaign strategy of distributing aid to some of the poorest areas of Transcaucasia. The fire was initially believed to be the cause of faulty wiring or perhaps some sort of sabotage scheme however, investigators are now stating they believe the fire was set by the Democratic-Republicans themselves. "Through the course of our investigation we have found several devices that we believe we used to start the fire" Lead investigator Garik Omartian told reporters. "These devices were found in the crates themselves, we believe to conceal them. While our investigation is still ongoing I can say with some certainty that foul play is certainly at work here." While investigators declined to state outright who they believe was to blame for the fires, political opponents to the Democratic-Republicans were quick to point the finger at the party themselves. "There has already been evidence to suggest that the Democratic-Republicans are to blame for recent political assassinations" George Dovlatov, Yerevan Communist party leader, told reporters. "Who is to say that this fire was not their way of further diverting the blame from their party? I for one feel that its high time the Democratic-Republicans be held accountable for their actions." While the National Unity Party has also released similar statements, the Democratic-Republicans maintains its innocence. "This is simply the latest in a clear smear campaign against our party and its political stance" party leader Joseph Sarkisian told reporters while releasing an official statement. "Our party is not at fault in this fire, we are the victims. We firmly believe that there are elements out to smear the integrity of our party and work against us to sway public opinion. We refuse to stand down, we refuse to take these accusations lightly, and we refuse to end our campaign before election day. The people will see this as just another attempt by others to stop our success."

Despite refusing to back down from their campaign, the Democratic-Republicans are already suffering from this latest situation. Analysts have already predicted that by the end of the week, the National Unity Party with be given a clear lead. Interestingly, however, the analysts seem somewhat divided as to who will be in second. Some analysts say that the Communist party, a party that has been in last for much of the elections, could gain substantial support from Democratic-Republicans. However, some believe that the Mensheviks and Democratic-Republicans could work out a last-minute alliance and join forces to pose a real threat to a National Unity victory. Though officially neither party was willing to make a comment on the matter, both parties are not as politically different and a union could indeed greatly threaten the other parties from any political success. While a union may be out of the questions, the parties have begun beefing up their security, including an increased security presence at National Unity headquarters. Elections are scheduled to be held in two weeks time.

POLLING STATIONS OPENED, SECURITY HEIGHTENED

Tibilisi: Polling station were opened at dawn to crowds of hundreds, all waiting to cast their first votes for a new Transcaucasia. Though the election season has seen various political shifts as well as horrific bouts of violence, the people of Transcaucasia feel confident that once a new government is formed, stability will at last come to the region.

"I am the first of my family to vote" Natela Kobuladze, a young woman from Khobi told us after having cast her vote. "Our people have suffered greatly from the constant political instability and warfare that has plagued this region. Though these elections have sadly cost the lives of many, I am hopeful that their conclusion will bring peace. That young people like myself will be given the chance of an education, work, and a way forward." Natela was just one of many that waited in the cold of the night until the first rays of light began over the horizon, signifying the start of a new day. For many of them, the elections being held today are the first signs that change may truly be coming to the region. Since the end of the Georgian War, the region of Transcaucasia has been plagued by political instability and war. The divided Georgian states warred with themselves during the Dominion Wars, keeping the international conflict out of the region but causing no less loss of life during that time. The conflicts between the two Georgian States were not contained to Georgia alone, and in time also included Azerbaijan and Armenia. Since that time the entire region has been one campaign after another, one government toppled by another. However, like Natela, many in the region feel that one the elections are over, the new government will present the first step towards normalizing the region and bringing peace.

To ensure that the elections go as smoothly, the provisional government has placed security personnel at every polling station as well as using regular patrols throughout the region. "Each polling station will have no less than 10 security personnel" Chairman David Marjanishvili told reporters. "We are also placing regular military patrols throughout each major city as well as throughout the countryside. We feel quite confident that these elections shall go smoothly and that we shall be able to retain peace during this most pivotal time in our history." Though political parties are barred from stationing personnel at polling stations, the parties have made final pleas to the people. "The time of our ascendance is upon us" Mikail Isakhali, leader of the National Unity Party told voters at his last party rally before the election. "Transcaucasia shall be a beautiful country, an envy to all the Middle East. We can do this, but remember that we can only do it as a united people, with a united party." Though many believe the National Unity Party has made the strongest case to the voters, many are not counting out the Mensheviks. "The people of the Transcaucasus have been given a choice." Meliton Zhordania stated in a radio spot a few hours before election. "The power of liberty, of freedom of choice, is paramount to many other civilizations throughout the world. The time to grasp this fundamental truth is now, and with it we too will become a great nation. The choice for the future is clear." Though some political analysts believe National Unity Party is the favored, others believe the Mensheviks shall give them a run all the way down the wire. However, interestingly enough the Communist Party has made one final push, many believing it may help upset the final outcome entirely. Speaking in front of a gather crowd yesterday, party leader Zurab Akbar-Hazrat made his party's final plea while passing out relief aide to a local orphanage.

"The rival parties have all spoke at length about how they can help the people. The people do not need help, the people are strong. What the people need is not help, its opportunity. The people simply need to be given the chance to succeed, the chance to move forward on equal ground. That is what our party wishes to build, a country of equals and we can but only if the people give us a chance." Though many consider the party out of the race, Democratic-Republicans remain on the ballot and have made many calls to the people for support. Sadly, due to mounting evidence against them, many feel the party will show very poorly at the final count. Though the future of the region remains uncertain, what is clear is that today's vote shall mark a new chapter in the course of the country and many are hoping that that course is one that shall lead the people to a better future.

NATIONAL UNITY PARTY SET TO DETERMINE NATION'S FUTURE

Tibilisi: After a vigorous twenty-four hours were nearly 99% of the voting-age population came to polling stations to cast their vote, election officials officially announced that the National Unity Party won the major and are now set to determine the new direction of the embattled region.

"To our supporters we say thank you and to the various people of Transcaucasia we say this, give us for years and we will give you a nation to be proud of" party leader Mikail Isakhali told supporters and a victory rally held in the early hours of the morning shortly after the official numbers were announced. "I know we are all tired so I will keep this speech short. We all saw the goal before us, each of the parties, the goal of a prosperous and united region for all the people of Transcaucasia. What set us, the National Unity Party, apart from our rivals was that we have set about a clear vision for the future. We shall help the people to build a national identity, one that all of Transcaucasia can relate to. We shall build industry and we shall create jobs, we will maintain order, and finally make the Transcaucasia a regional power." According to the official numbers, as verified by three different committee panels, the National Unity party received 52% of the votes, the Mensheviks received 34%, and the communist 14%. The Democratic-Republicans, despite strong numbers in various polls early on in the election season, received no votes. This gives the National Unity Party a clear majority in the upcoming parliament, and the power to dictate the formation of the new government. However, in the interest of resolving old issues and creating a new era of cooperation in the region, party officials have told us that the National Unity party is willing to work with the rival factions. "There has been enough fighting and enough bloodshed" Party Press Secretary Mehdi Khalilov stated in a press conference. "Though we have won a clear majority, the party recognizes that the region is not ours alone to shape. What the people need now is unity and we recognize that only through cooperation can we achieve this unity. It will not be easy and certainly there are some subject with which our party feels strongly on but many of us feel confident that some compromises can be made but are only willing to compromise if it benefits the people." Neither Menshevik nor Communist officials were willing to comment on the statements from the National Unity Party, but Mensheviks did hold their own press conference.

"Though we had certainly hoped to have a better showing at the polls, we respect the people's choice and are not detoured by the outcome" party leader Meliton Zhordania stated. "We will continue to strive and work for the betterment of the people. We will continue to press the issues at hand, better schools and education for our youth, healthcare for our sick and elderly, and government-funded retirement programs for our aging working-class. We know these issues have struck a cord with the people and we know it is those issues that got us the support we have. We remain dedicated to those issues and will fight to make them a reality for the prosperity of the people." After speaking at length about the party's immediate plans for the upcoming parliament session, Party Leader Zhordania was joined on stage by Democratic-Republican Leader Joseph Sarkisian and made a surprising announcement. "Though I understand that my party, the Democratic-Republicans, has lost the faith of much of Transcaucasia, we remain dedicated to a democratic nation" Sarkisian told reporters. "Our party leadership has, in the last week leading to election day, discussed at length the focus and future of our party. We came to the conclusion a day before the elections that our goals and the goals of our once Menshevik rivals, were not as different as we may have believed earlier in the election season. That is why I reached out to party leader Zhordania yesterday afternoon after early poll numbers came out and we have, in the last 24 hours, discussed at length the future of our parties. In the end, we've agreed to a party merger, Democratic-Republicans will merger into the Menshevik party and the party will be granted a new name." Party Leader Zhordania exampled. "We shall become the Social Democratic Labor Party, I shall remain party leader with Mr. Sarkisian as my party secretary. We hope that by joining forces, we can bridge the gap between our two parties and create a more united front for the next elections." Though the news was a surprise to many, some analysts believed the Democratic-Republicans would attempt a merger. Their failure at the polls coupled with the weeks of bad publicity has severely chastised their public image. This merger will give the new party a better coverage politically and a stronger volunteer force for the next elections.

The party remaining completely silent after the elections so far is the Communist party. Their third place finish in the polls shows that communist still remains a sore subject for many who may still remember the years of failed communism during the soviet era. While communist officials have attempted to distance themselves from that oppressive era, many analysts have suggested that so far party leadership has simply failed to produce a clear picture of the new party for the public. Many suggest that new leadership may be in order, with a newer and fresher face for the communist, perhaps seeking a younger leader with polarizing public qualities. The first session of the Transcaucasian Parliament is scheduled to meet in Tbilisi by the end of the week. Some of the most pressing tasks and topics will be to officially dismiss the provisional, nominations and voting for leaders to form the new government, and discussing a site for the official capital.

GOVERNMENT CRACKDOWN SPARKS PROTEST

Rustavi: Protestors, mainly from what is considered "leftest" organizations, have taken to the street in protest over a recent government crackdown which involved the arrest of over 40 people two days ago.

Posted Image

TRANSCAUCASIA

"They came into their homes and took them without any cause" Gregory Kantaronov told protestors over a loud speaker. "This government came to power over the pretense of a government for the people. It was a lie and this lie continues as our personal freedoms are being quickly swept away. We must not allow these fascist to continue to remain in power. We must fight back, we must show them that they cannot and shall now be allowed to torture the people for their own personal gains. We demand that they answer for these crimes and we demand that the international community recognize this as a dictatorship in the making!" The crackdown involved in arrest of over 40 people, as order directly by Chairman himself. Security forces came to the suspects homes and put them under arrest in the earlier hours of the morning just two days ago. Since that time, both the media as well as family have not been allowed to see them. Most of the individuals taken by security forces and placed under arrest were members of both the Social Democratic Labor Front and the Progressive Communist Workers Alliance, two opposition parties to the current ruling regime. However, despite this the administration has expressed that the arrests were not politically motivated but instead were matters of security for the Coalition.

"We understand that the people are upset but I can assure you that these arrests were necessary" Niko Gelovani, Secretary of Internal Affairs told reporters at a press conference shortly after news of the arrests broke. "These individuals have been under surveillance by our security forces for some time and we have mounting evidence that point to terrorist plots as well as possible coup plots. While it is regrettable that these individuals were also affiliating themselves with opposition parties, we do not blame these parties for these individual's actions. We are simply thankful that we were able to gather enough evidence to realize what these people were plotting before they could carry out their individual plans. Which, I might add, range from setting bombs to various government buildings to all out plans to storm the capital itself. It should also be understood that all the individuals arrests were not apart of a single plan. Instead, each one or small group of them were planning their separate operations and we have no reason to believe that any of them had contact with the others. So thankfully, we do not believe at this time that there is a greater underground terrorist organization growing in Transcaucasia. Instead, these arrests are for separate charges that have a single common factor. All these individuals wish to jeopardize the newly found peace and security of Transcaucasia."

While the Khalilov administration remains firm on its actions, protestors say that these supposed terrorist plots are fabrications of the administration to justify their actions. Protestors instead, suggest, that the arrests were a political move to help further weaken opposition parties from gaining any sort of political foothold against the current ruling party. Solidifying their control over the Coalition for sometime to come. While the either the protestors nor the administration have officially released any evidence to support their claims, neither side seems ready to back down from their position.

AUTONOMOUS STATE OF GANZIA ESTABLISHED

????: In an unsettling move by the Khalilov administration, the Autonomous State of Ganzia has been officially established in what was the region of Abkhazia. Though the government claims the establishment is a great humanitarian achievement, this writer greatly questions their motives.

"Today, after months of providing a safe harbor for the thousands of Dominigasque people who have come to live with freedom and peace, I am greatly pleased to announce the first ever state for the Dominigasque people. The Autonomous State of Ganzia is the first of its kind, the first ever state or territory in all the world given to the Dominigasque people so that they may build for themselves a brighter future. A future far from the tyranny of such countries as the CMESS who would rather see these people exterminated just because they are different. For far too long your people have been shut out from the rest of the world. Told you don't belong and forced to wonder the world like migrants, always fearful that the next land will be as cruel as the last. We cannot, as people of democracy and freedom, allow this to continue. We cannot stand by and allow the torture and death of hundreds of people simply because they are different. We must embrace diversity, not fear it. There is so much that we Transcaucasians can learn from the Dominigasque and I believe much they can learn from us. A region of diversity, we Transcaucasians know more than most what cruelty and ignorance can do. We foolishly fought along lines of intolerance, with Georgians fight Azerbaijani and Azerbaijani fighting Armenians. Yet we have since risen above this ignorance, we have opened our eyes and see the truth. We know now that we are one people, despite our differences, and use that to strengthen our resolve. Now we are proud to add the Dominigasque people to our melting pot, proud to call these people our family. No doubt the Autonomous State of Ganzia will prosper as greatly as Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan." The Chancellor then spoke only briefly one how this transition of power in the region was to take place and said little on the fate of the Abkhazian people that already inhabit the region.

Naturally, as any good voice of the truth, I have done my research. It is not easy to come by information in an atmosphere of totalitarianism, such as taken hold in Transcaucasia. Thankfully, however, I still have my resources and what I have found is unsettling to say the least. Despite the Chancellor's words of peace and cooperation, of brotherhood between all people, the State of Ganzia has not been built on such ideas. No, this new state has instead been washed in the blood of the innocent. There is reason to believe, and by reason I mean the testimony of eyewitnesses, that the Dominion government has initiated several ethnic cleansing programs throughout the Abkhazian region. Hundreds have been taken from their homes and executed, buried in mass graves just outside the region's border. Thousands more have been arrested on various made-up charges and sent to newly formed detention camps in Azerbaijan where, I have heard, it is simply a slower form of execution. Of those who have not been executed or detained, they have instead been forced into relocation communities throughout the Transcaucasian Dominion. The government states it is a program for better assimilation between the cultures and have even footed the bill for the costs of relocating the families. Yet in the end we must expose this as simply a force evacuation of the Abkhazian people so that the Dominion government that now controls Transcaucasia may built this new state of the Dominigasque people. Whether or not they themselves are been party to the plans of the Khalilov administration, I cannot say. I am of the belief that most of the Dominigasque are ignorant of what is going on. After all, many of these people are refugees that have fled the CMESS after the executions there. However, not every refugee is from Anatolia, many others have come from all over the world and I can only imagine what kind of people the Khalilov administration has truly let in. Yet Abkhazia is not a difficult choice to understand given that it has long be a suspected haven for pro-Russian sympathizers. Indeed, Abkhazia has long been suspected as the location from which the Sons of Moscow operate, terrorists that have plagued more totalitarian regimes throughout Transcaucasia. The administration blamed them for the deaths of the local leaders and have executed many, forcing all ethnic Russians to wear the double-eagle symbol. They have separated them from main-stream society, made them second-class citizens and now they along with the Abkhazians are being forced from their homelands all for a greater "ideal." I can only wonder what the end results of these plans are but rest assured that while I may not know now, I will soon enough. After all, knowledge is power and it will take a great deal of power to defeat this totalitarian dictatorship and restore a government of the people.

OOC: SO for the foreseeable future, articles written will be from the prospective of an underground source in Transcaucasia. They will write more opinion columns than anything else and I attend to present not only the official story given by the government but also what's really going on.
