Russian Georgia to Adopt Car Ban

In an interesting bill passed by the Federal Council of Russian Georgia, Premier Otar Tsutsunava announced today that the government will soon ban all privately own automobiles, motorcycles, motor scooters, and all other forms of motorized transportation in an effort to curb not only rising pollution levels but also crime.

The move comes only two weeks after Premier Tsutsunava met with Premier José López of Hispania Ulterior for a weekend meet in Tbilisi. The meeting was apart of a new program instrumented by the Tsar to foster better communications with all leaders throughout the greater Empire.

Hispania Ulterior, who is now celebrating it's one year anniversary of passing an identical bill, as seen tremendous success although many opposed the bill when it was first passed. Acting as a template for the Russian Georgia bill, the bill passed in hispania Ulterior call for the outlawing of privately operated motor vehicles from all public roads. It had stipulations that guarantee current owners that the state would compensate them for their loss as motor vehicles were confiscated. It will also divert millions into public transportation including the construction of new rail systems, bus, and taxi vehicles. The bill also gave the state to right to sell the vehicles they confiscate to private investors and that the money generated would then be split between the Education and Transportation Departments.

Since the passing of the bill, Hispania Ulterior has now seen a dramatic decrease in pollution levels as well as a decrease in highway congestion. Motor Vehicle Accidents(MVA) as well as deaths related to MVA's has also seen a dramatic decrease. KGB officials also praise the bill for its assistance to law enforcement. Over 54 criminals have been properly convicted of crimes due in part to surveillance footage taken of them during the time frame of their crimes from the different state operated transportation systems they used. Due to the success of the bill in many of the nation's most popular issues for control, popularity polls have also increased.

Premier Tsutsunava commented after his state address yesterday that he looks forward to the success he believes the bill will bring. When questioned about opponent opinions to the bill the Premier simply said that he will let time decide whether or not the bill is right for the Republic.

OOC: This is sort of an underground newspaper, only two pages long and only editorials. It's written by a small group of people in Tbilisi and will cover stories from both the Northern and Southern states. Usually the editorials will be criticism to something one of the two government have done, but ever now and then they will get something right and deserve a little praise. These newspapers are distributed to both sides secretly, reaching everyone who might want a copy.

Is an army a sign of good faith for regional stability from the Sultanate of Kolchis?

Edited by concerned citizens of Tbilisi

Earlier this week recently Sultan Saeed Akbar Al-Kabir of the Sultanate of Kolchis announced his intentions of building a professional army. It is rumored, though yet confirmed, that he has asked Scythirian military leaders still in Kolchis for peace keepng, to help train the new military force. In a speech given to his people through a national broadcast, Sultan Al-Kabir justified the need for this military saying that it would give "defense to the defenseless."

Defense to the defenseless...defense from what? Georgians have only recently begun to heal the scars left by the Georgian war and now Sultan Al-Kabir wants to build himself an army? What does he need defense from, the Principality of Kartli? That's doubtful as the Kartli have no military force to date. The only move towards a national defense force, if you want to call it that, was the police act passed by the Kartli Parliament last month, which called for funds to build, train, and maintain a police for in every town within the principality.

When given these same questions, recently appointed General Alaeddin Javakhishvili of Internal Security said that recently activity by terrorist groups have prompted the Sultan to take this action. Javakhishvili said that they had recently received reports of terrorist cells entering the country and noting that the Kolchis people could not expect the Scythirians to protect them forever, it was time for the Kolchis to learn to protect themselves.

Though it remains to be seen whether or not the Kolchis need to build for themselves a professional army, reports of recruitment posters have already been sent in to our paper. The posters say that "it is the duty of all young Kolchis men to serve and protect their Sultan and country." We for one believe that it is in bad taste that the Sultan should think to build an army so close after the end of the Georgian war.

The region of Georgia needs peace, no the instruments of war. We need to be building back our cities, not building tanks and guns. Spend your revenues on new schools, homes, and hospitals and let go of this foolish notion of armies and war.

A Capital Near Complete, But at What Cost?
Edited by concerned citizens of Tbilisi

Today engineers unveiled the new parliament building of Armazi, to house the Kartli Parliament. The building with it's European influence is a model of democracy for all the Middle East to admire, especially for a nation still reeling from the hardships given to it by war. Still as beautiful, enormous, and opulent as the new building is, it still begs the question of whether or not its construction was worth it?

The building's construction has cost the fledgling principality a estimated 3 billion to build, a cost that could have gone to not only improve but also expand the power, telephone, and sewage lines of the Northern region. Vital infrastructure that has needed upgrading and expanding even before the old Georgian government fell.

Of course in our opinion this only highlights the bigger atrocity of both the Kartli and the Kolchis and that is their plans for constructing from scratch new capitals for their respected states. Plans of which, both countries have unveiled and both continue to rally their people for support. In what we can only be classified as blind patriotism, this work of propagandists has for the most part succeeded.

With both countries full of already established cities and towns that could just as well serve as their nation's capitals, both countries, whose ideologies differ greater with each passing hour, decided almost in unison to trek into the wilderness of their country sides and build from the dirty grand capitals to represent their strength and wealth.

For the Kartli, the city of Armazi will represent the best of democracy and the democratic process even though technically the nation is labeled a Constitutional Monarchy and most power resides with the Prince. Still the Kartli Parliament will certainly add some refreshment to a country of people who, under Russian governance, did enjoy a democratically elected government.

That is a far cry from the Kolchis, where their capital of Lazistan will represent nothing more that the totalitarian rule of the Sultan and his closely chosen cabinet of Ministers who have gained their positions not by the will of the general populace but by a merit system devised by the Sultan himself and is one that in our opinion is a system that only the Sultan could ever understand. We can only hope that in time a Sultan will arise that will loosen the tight grip that Sultan Saeed Akbar Al-Kabir has taken over the people of Kolchis.

With so much money being funneled into these new capitals we can only hope for the people of both countries that it is well worth it. Perhaps these capitals will speak to the integrity of people and their intelligence, attracting foreign investors and bringing big business to each side. Still, we here can only believe that this capitals are just another fine example of misappropriation of funds and a clear mistake of both governments. Will they learn from this mistake? Probably not, few governments do. But perhaps in some way or another this capitals will work for the people whether by helping to enrich their economies or by granting them the perfect location for riots and revolutions.

Has the door been left open to Georgia?
Edited by concerned citizens of Tbilisi

Though the peace keeping forces, a term that either has great weight or none at all give to whom within these divided lands you speak with, did well to keep order and peace within the region of Georgia their leave was completed a few months ago was made possible only due to the construction of two armies North and South of the border. Public press from both aside, their forces are an army by all definition even if their numbers are meager at best.

These armies loosely trained from experience in the war and from each sides partner in construction, have been hard pressed to keep the peace. They were construction, if not publicly, for fear that North would attack South or South would attack North, again it all depends on whom with which you speak. However, this duty has been put on hold, as a new threat has begun to take heed within the divided borders of Georgia, and that threat goes by the international name of terrorism.

Why only two days ago a terrorist group by the name of Tavisupleba, a term to mean "freedom" in our native tongue, detonated a small explosive outside a cafe in what is becoming downtown Lazistan. The bombing killed all 10 or so patrons inside the small shop yet despite this loss of life it takes no expert to see why a small innocent coffee shop was attack given the multitude of government buildings that have been erected in this bustling metropolis that has sprouted out of the Georgia countryside.

It takes only a mere glimpse at the city map of Lazistan to see that this coffee shop is few than five blocks from the Sultan's palace near the city's center. Though I am no interpreter of destruction I think it is safe to speculate that this act of violence was a show of Tavisupleba to the Sultan of how close they could get if they so choose to move. Though his supreme and all mighty, another term use loosely in this editorial, Sultan Saeed Akbar Al-Kabir has yet to admit it, the extreme force on the street can only prove that this point was heard loud and clear.

Worst of all however, beyond the senseless lost of life is the fact that the Sultan is quick to use this as a point finger example of his fear of the North, claiming the Kartli have funded the Tavisupleba for the attack. Yet had he only picked up his own nationalized newspaper a day before he would would rethink that statement as the Kartli themselves were a target of attack only a few days ago. Now of course these is the idea that perhaps in order to save their own, they have made a deal with the Tavisupleba in order to have them work exclusively south of the border but the likelihood of that is grim.

Still this all comes to highlight a problem which is on the rise in former Georgia and that is that since the war and the dismantle of the national government, a door has been open so as to let all the scum of the Earth flood in and find a place to sleep, eat, and multiple. Though I can quick sit here and make judgment against a host of international government almost all of whom has put a signature on a certain peace accord that shall for now remain unnamed, I will simply say this. If the North and South cannot in some manner find a way to get past their own cultural and political differences then this region shall be plagued by terrorism of a sort few other nations to date have seen.

They roam no longer
Edited by concerned citizens of Tbilisi

With so much that we have to criticize the governments of the Georgian territory about, we have decided to take a different approach and a comment of a different type of story this week. With violence irrupting across the region through terrorist activity, with the government spending millions that could go to better infrastruction, food, health, and well being of citizen a rather odd thing has happen or should we say, a rather odd people have laid claim to this region of divided territories.

The Langarri, a group of individuals who very few can figure out and even fewer ever know where they will pop-up next have made their way to the slopes of the Caucasus Mountains, more specifically to the small and abandon village of Mutso. One of the former strongholds of the historic Georgian province of Khevsureti, it is located on a rocky mountain on the right bank of the Andakistskali river. Abandon for a century or more, the village is home to 30 medieval fortified dwelling units arranged on vertical terraces above the Mutso-Ardoti gorge, four combat towers and ruins of several old structures and buildings. Difficult to access, the village has retained almost all of its original architecture.

Posted Image

Now residing well within the boundaries of the Kartli Principality they are now their problem. The official word of the Kartli Parliament and Prince is that so long as the Langarri do not insight civil disobedience or in any way threaten the legitimate government then they are free to live as they please. Of course with the Langarri living in such a remote area they have practically isolated themselves from the rest of the Kartli, from the of Georgia for that matter. Though no easy to get to, many people have been making the journey to the Langarri village, all of whom have stopped here in Tbilisi.

We had a chance to ask one of the traveling Langarri before they left for Mutso, why they had chosen such a remote area to call there home? The man, who appear to be in his late forties said that they needed solitude and that they as a people had made many mistakes. Their work in Israeli and the old Persian state was a testament to that. Now he said, they have found the path back to where they need to go and Mutso will help them get there.

Not exactly sure where it is they're "going" we do wish them luck. As remote as Mutso is, we don't really feel we'll be seeing much more of the Langarri for sometime as it is tough enough on the way up, even worse coming back down. In all likely-hood the Langarri are they to stay, etching out a small enclave to call their own. With the announcement mention before, the Kartli also added that they were willing to let the Langarri be, not seeking any sort of tax for the area in which they are now inhabiting due to the remote location they have chosen.

Sultanate teetering on the brink of divide?
Edited by concerned citizens of Tbilisi

They people of Kolchis spoke loudly and clearly today as a bomb was set off outside the palace of Sultan Saeed Akbar Al-Kabir , killing several guards and other aids of the palace. The Sultan himself was not within that particular wing of the palace at the time of the explosion. This attack of course as our readers are becoming more apparently aware of only adds to the string of violence that has swept both the capital Lazistan and the rest of Kolchis.

Though we do not try and declare that we have any idea as to why this violence has occurred we can present facts which support the reasons that these terrorists have given. Tavisupleba has been one of the most prominent terrorist cells to work within the borders of Kolchis. Declaring themselves the soldiers of freedom, they reject the Sultan's government because they believe it is a infringement of their natural freedoms and rights.

This may very well be true as the government within the last month or so has tighten it's control over the nation in what they declare are reasons of security and safety for it's citizens. Curfews have been placed and are strictly enforced, phones as well as major urban areas have been put under constantly surveillance. Many citizen feel they can't even sneeze without the government knowing about it. Freedoms have been restricted but whether they are being cause by or fought for by the Tavisupleba is another matter.

Another group that has risen out of the rumble and reconstruction of this embattled region is the a group calling themselves the "Sons of Equality." They say though they support the ideas of freedom and justice much like that of Tavisupleba, they believe the biggest problem in the country right now is the great divide which separates the rich and the poor. They say that the government has done nothing in the way of helping people enrich themselves. They protest that the government is taxing it's people too heavily, especially the poor who cannot buy to be left along by the government like richer, elite citizens.

Their argument is certainly not without validity. The Sultan's government has been on a progressive move upwards in the amount of taxes citizens have to pay. Their reasons have always been that the government needs to increased revenue to continue the reconstruction process. They have promised new roads, railway systems, schools, hospitals, and other public amenities vital to the survival of the general population. However, to date there has been no revival projects started by the government and the only new construction has been that of the capital itself. In all likelihood the government itself is pocketing the money, most likely to fund their military aspiration. Still no hard evidence has come to light and probably never will given the Sultans control over information.

Though their beliefs are noble and the ends they wish to reach are honorable, we cannot support the methods towards the means. Innocent lives are being threaten by these terrorist groups and the bloodshed must be stopped! By the bloodshed won't stop, at least not until the struggle between the Sultan and these groups are complete and one side is dominated by the other.

NEW BORDER TARGET OF TERRORIST ACTIVITY

Tbilisi
: The city of Kutaisi was the site of a violent terrorist attack yesterday as a small bomb was detonated just outside a cafe in the downtown district. This is just the third attack this week perpetrated in villages and towns all along the land border between the Kura river of the southeast, and the Rioni River of the Northwest.

"The area has become a hotbed for terrorist activity" Minister of Internal Security Alexandre Sashvili told reporters yesterday outside of his office in the Kartli control section of Tibilisi. "As it stands right now, no terrorist group has yet come forward to claim the attack. We're currently investigating what leads we have. We'll be sending more security forces into the area to help prevent further attacks."

Sources outside the Ministry of Security have reported that many eye witness saw armed and masked individuals cross the border into Soviet Georgia. This has lead many to believe that these terrorist attacks are being conducted with Soviet supervision or even worst, Soviet sponsorship. Internet sites all over Kartli have many people call the Soviets out on the evidence, calling Soviet Leader Chairman Iosif Jugashvili a fear monger.

When asked by reporters in our Tbilisi office in Soviet Georgia, Chairman Jugashvili had this to say: :Any accusations that our government has anything to do with these terrorist attacks are completely and utterly falsified. Need I remind the people of Kartli, and the world that Soviet Georgia has also been the target of terrorist attacks. Just two days ago the city of Samtredia was attacked, with witnesses placing several armed individuals crossing the border into Kartli territory."

The attack on Samtredia did indeed happen, with over thirty people killed when a train carrying fuel tanks exploded. Samtredia was Georgia's and is now Soviet Georgia's man hub for transportation by train and car, with roads from all across the nation converging it. Soviet troops have bolster security in the city and for now it has remain clear of terrorist infiltration. Nevertheless, several other towns along the border were also subjects of terrorist activity before the Samtredia attack.

Many Georgians on both sides of the border worry that the increase of troops, the already existent tension between both sides, and this new terrorist threat will only lead the region back to conflict. Sources from both governments however say that this worry should be quickly dissolved. Both governments wish to see this threat taken care of and though they have their suspicions about the other, they are working in some limits fashions to deal with this emergency.

Langarri Request Autonomy

Tbilisi
: In an rare appearance within the Kartli capital of Tbilisi, a representative of the Langarri address parliament with a request to allow their region to separate and become an independent enclave within the Kartli's sovereign borders. The request came under the banner of peace, or so the Langarri representative known only by her first name Natalia wanted the parliament to believe. She told the Kartli that the Langarri felt that they were ethnically, spiritually, and culturally different from the Georgians and that only they knew what was best for their people.

The news came as a shock to Parliament who was a first virtually speechless as the request was given. After a few moments however, the reaction to the request was clear and the answer was no. Parliament representatives were almost outraged by the request as they only recently had to compromise with the Communists to take what parts of the capital as they could. Allowing another area of the country to break away into an independent enclave was simply unacceptable. "We just can't consider it" said Prime Minster Otar Tsutsunava, "We have little land within our borders as it is now. Giving up another chunk would set a horrible precedent that we simply cannot allow."

Though certainly not the answer that Ms. Natalia wanted to hear, she seemed un-phased by parliaments decision. "I will not leave Tbilisi without the answer I came for and I feel confident that I will leave with what I came for." Though confident she will not leave empty handed, it wouldn't appear as if Parliament has any notion of changing it's stance. Ms. Natalia may still have some hope as Prince Demetre Bagrationi III could very well overturn the decision of parliament and grant the Langarri their request. Currently the Prince has yet to release a statement, though soruces say that the Prince will certainly address the matter personally soon.

If the Prince were to agree, it would certainly be a historical decision, creating yet another state within the Georgian region. However, if he were to agree the Kartli would not be losing that much land as the Langarri are only asking for the two towns, Mutso and Shatili which are located within the Greater Caucasus Mountains. The land is mostly useless, with little area useful for farming or other economic ventures. Public opinion is split on the idea, with some Kartli believing that given the area is so isolated and unless to the nation that it should be given to the Langarri since they want it. More conservative Kartli however believe that the Langarri have done little to deserve the area, and that it is historically Georgian and should remain as such.

Parliament has said that they will open the floor for debate by the end of the week for the issue, coming to a vote before next week.

The Autonomy Question Solved, But at What Cost?

Tbilisi
: It was a tense atmosphere as Parliament met yesterday to discuss the idea of an autonomous region in what is present day, the Mtskheta-Mtianeti. Specifically an area which will encompass the villages of Mutso and Shatili along the Georgia side of the Greater Caucasus mountains. The union of Konservatiuli and Demokratiuli parties were split on the idea, even among their own ranks, along with the members of the Memarjvene Opozitsia party

Debating lasted for several hours with no clear end in sight to most observers. Finally however, Prince Demetre Bagrationi III entered parliament and delivered a speech which changed the atmosphere of parliament, and made the outcome of the vote a forgone conclusion. "The Langarri are neither ethnically nor spiritual Georgian" Prince Bagrationi stated. "They are a mixed society of ethnic groups which span not only the Middle East but the world. They came to this region looking for a place to call home."

"They have never threaten out sovereign, endangered our integrity, nor interfered in our way of life. They have come to us under a banner of peace and have petitioned us for autonomy. After discussing this matter in great detail with their representative personally I think there is a solution that both sides can agree to." The Prince then laid out to Parliament a resolution which would give the Langarri legally jurisdiction of the region in question. They would be free to draft their own laws and govern their people as they saw fit so long as it did not threaten Kartli security.

The Kartli would remain able to patrol the area militarily and would continue to provide military defense as it benefits both sides to keep the area secure. The Kartli would also be granted a special clause within the agreement that would state that the area does in fact remain under the Kartli in name, but that the Langarri are free to hold dominion over the land. The Prince decided against an taxation on the Langarri given their lifestyle and given that the land hold little economic significant value.

After the speech the resolution went to vote and was passed, if only slightly with the proper majority needed. The Prince gave thanks to Parliament, stating that it was a historical day for the Kartli and Georgia at large as a issue of territorial boundaries was resolved without the use of military force. Something that had yet to be done before yesterday. Still some members of the Konservatiuli/Demokratiuli union as well as all eight members of the Memarjvene Opozitsia party in parliament still believe that the resolution was a disaster.

They say that this decision has created an ugly precedent in the Karlti and will undoubtedly encourage other breakaway regions to come forth. They fear that in the near future there will be little left of Georgia for the Kartli to government. They site rumors of a Russian Unionist movement as cause for their worries. Speculation is that there are a growing number of Russian sympathizers in the Abkhazia
region that seek reintergration into the Russian Empire. They believe that they are the causes of terrorist attacks in the Border region near the city of Kutaisi.

Members stated flatly to both the parliament and reporters afterward that the Kartli handling of the Langarri has opened a door for other Georgian separatists. They said that now the Principality will be forced to compromise with terrorists organization less they wish to see bloodshed as this resolution will most certainly be used as a legal means for separatist groups to demand autonomy from the government.

City of Sukhumi Recognized as Haven for Terrorism

Tbilisi
: The city of Sukhumi, in the Abkhazia province of Kartli was recognized by Parliament yesterday as a haven for terrorists. The news was announced yesterday just after Parliament convene for the evening. Minister of Internal Security, Alexandre Sashvili, said it was the first step in the country's intiative to counteract terrorist activity in the border zone with Soviet Georgia.

"Since the redrawing of our border with Soviet Georgia we have seen increased terrorist activity within out land border with our Southern neighbors" said Minister Sashvili. "We have already lost 20 civilians and 5 soldiers in terrorist related attacks in the region and the government is in agreement that this number is way to high. Contrary to some media's reports, the Principality does not believe the Soviets are funding these terrorists. Prince Bagrationi has been in communication with Chairman Ala'eddin Emami-Kashani and the discussion have provided both nations with crucial information on these groups."

"We feel that with this level of cooperation between us, we will now be able to effectively battle against these terrorists and stop their war of fear on our beloved countries."

The government acknowledges one main terrorist group as a threat to the Principality and the reason for Sukhumi being placed as a main target in the war on terror. The group calls themselves the Sons of Moscow. They are a Russian nationalist group who believes that Georgia should return to the Empire. They refuse to recognize either Georgian state's sovereignty and have declared several times that they will take Adkhazia by force if the Principality won't recognize their own legitimacy and Sovereignty.

The military has announced that another 200 soldiers are being deployed to the region and will begin covert operations to flush the terrorist out without endangering civilians. They say the heaviest deployment will be in the hottest zones of the region as well as cities they feel may become targets in the future.

Soviet's give new look and name to old port city

New Leningrad
: Soviet officials were on site today as the old city of Batumi was rededicated and reopen as the New Leningrad. Though much of the city is still under reconstruction, the main "gate way" project of the reconstruction campaign has been completed and Soviet officials as well as party leaders were on hand for a dedication ceremony. The ceremony was open to the public and thousands came out to take pictures and live in a once in a lifetime moment.

Posted Image

"New Leningrad will be, when finished, a city to rival that of New York at the height of the Old USA!" commented chairman Ala'eddin Emami-Kashani as he stood at a podium just underneath the large, statue of liberty sized statue of Vladamir Lenin. "A new dawn has risen over the Soviet Republic of Georgia, and we Georgians have much to celebrate. Truly this statue behind me speaks of our nations greatness and as Lenin watches over us we will see to it that we do not fail. Soviet Georgia will prosper and show the nations of the Middle East the truly glory of the communist system."

Upon completion the city of New Leningrad will be twice that of the old city of Batumi and will serve as the Soviet Republics main port. It will also be the only legal entry point for immigrants coming into the country by both air and sea, with the Soviets currently constructing a massive airport complex just on the outskirts of the city. The city will be the home of many state own companies although new legislation will also allow for a small private sector to also operate, making Leningrad the only legal location for such companies to operate within the whole Soviet Republic.

However, what is arguably the most impressive section of the city is Hammer and Sickle island, a man-made island home to the statue of Vladamir Lenin, father of the communist revolution. The statue took some 200 steel workers and hundreds of hours to construct, polish, move, and finally erect into it's final resting place. The statue has been situated so that Lenin points northwesterly towards Russia and Moscow, the homeland of Lenin's communist revolution. Soviet officials say both the statue and the city will speak volumes about the will, power, and greatness of the Communist state.

Kartli Defense Forces Make Important Raid

Gali
:Kartli Defense Forces made an important raid in the city of Gali yesterday, mere days since parliament's decision to increase forces in the area in hopes fo combating against terrorists. Only two soldiers for the Kartli Defense Force were killed in the line of duty. An estimated twenty terrorist soldiers were captured with an additional five dying in the fire fight the erupted as Kartli soldiers intially approached their hideout.

Posted Image

The raid on the terrorist den comes after weeks of investigation and interrogations from terrorist soldiers already captured by Kartli forces. The success of the raid marks the largest capture of terrorist and terrorist materials in the Kartli's war against terrorists here in the Abkhazia region. The terrorist captured have already openly admitted to being soldiers from the terrorist group calling itself the "Sons of Moscow." The Kartli government has linked the S.O.M to several attacks already in the region and believe that they are the number one group currently harassing the Georgian people.

The man being accredited for the success of the raid was commanding officer, Colonel Marcus Kalatozov. Colonel Kalatozov is no stranger to the news as his name has been the most reported on as the campaign against terrorist began in the region. To date Colonel Kalatozov has launched ten covert and open operations against terrorist cells within the Abkhazia region all of which he has lead to successful conclusions. When asked about his success, Colonel Kalatozov comment "I personally have no special gifts, I owe the success of these operations to the men and women serving under my command. Without them I would simply be a strategist behind a desk. It's the soldiers who are making the difference."

Back in Tbilisi Colonel Kalatozov is quickly becoming something of a celebrity with many flocking out to his private residence in the downtown district and leaving cards of thanks and well wishes. Commenting on his recent success in the Abkhazia region, Kartli military command says that "Colonel Kalatozov certainly exemplifies the best and brightest of what the Kartli Defense Forces have to offer. Certainly his accomplishments have not gone unnoticed by his superiors and though we can give no definitive comments on the subject, certainly a promotion is something be considered and discussed with great sincerity."

When word was first broken about the raid, the Sons of Moscow released a video where masked leaders of the terrorist group proclaimed that the raid was but a minor set back in their overall agenda. They continued to denounce the legitimacy of the Kartli and Soviet governments respectfully and stated that independence for the Abkhazia people would be coming soon. They further stated that once such a independence was secured, they would seek re-admittance into the Russian Empire where they say, the country should still be today.

Supreme Soviet Declares Four Women is Permissible

Southern Tbilisi:Today the Chief Presiding Officer of the Supreme Soviet, Hassan Malek-Yonan, announced at a press conference that the legislative body finally came to an agreement on the idea of Polygyny in the Soviet Republic. For several months now the government has been wrestling over the idea of whether or not Polygyny would be allowed. Several individuals throughout the Soviet Republic live Polygynist lives which got lawmakers and party officials wondering where the law should stand.

In a recent poll sponsored by this newspaper, the question was asked whether you supported Polygyny or not. 75% of respondents supported laws allowing Polygynist lifestyle while only 20% opposed the idea, a remaining 5% percent wondered why the government even cared what people did in their homes, cars, hotels, public bathrooms, etc. However, most deputies of the Supreme Soviet agree that the issue came up primarily in regards the standard living issues as well as issues of inheritance. Would the law allow a man to have multiple wives with each wife having a staked claim in a mans assets?

Apparently it will, or at least that's where the law is going to stand. Chief Presiding Officer Hassan Malek-Yonan had this to say on the subject of Polygyny on the steps of the Supreme Soviet Building:

"The fact of the matter is, is that for too long we've got by the "one man-one woman" standard but after careful consideration and a deeper look at the text of the Qur'an we find that Polygyny is permissible and in fact permits with a limit The fact of the matter is is that the Qur'an is the only religious book on the face of the earth that says 'marry only one'. However, looking at the context of this phrase, which comes from a verse from Surah Nisa of the Qur'an, it states and I qoute: 'Marry woman of your choice in twos' threes' or fours' but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly, then only one' [Al-Qur'an 4:3]. Thus Islam gives a man permission to marry two, three or four women, only on the condition that he deals with them justly. In the same chapter, verse 129 says: 'It is very difficult to be just and fair between women'. [Al-Qur'an (4:129)]."

Chief Presiding Officer Malek-Yonan stated that the verse about the difficulty of taking care of multiple wives is certianly a warning he believes should be taken to heart but that now a man is free to make the choice. The law will permit a man to have up two four wives, but will set limits to the basic level of care a man must provide to his wives equally. If not met, then the man could face harsh penalties which could even lead to imprisonment/community service. The Chief Presiding Officer said that the Supreme Soviet is in hopes that this measure will encourage men to have more than one wife, and bare more children to help in the country's declining birth rate.

The law will go into effect next month, allowing married men the chance the take on up to three more wives if he so chooses.

National Republicans Gain Majority in Supreme Senate

Posted Image

Southern Tbilisi:Current Chairman Ala'eddin Emami-Kashani celebrated tonight at a rally with his new party the United Republican Party as they score a major victory in this years election, finally taking the majority out of the hands of the Communist party. Chairman Emami-Kashani left the communist one month ago to join the United Republic Party as their choice for chairman and although briefly dismissed by the Communist Majority in the Supreme Soviet at the time it appear as if he will be allowed to resume his duties as early as next week.

Many analysts were shocked at the first results of the national elections but after two recounts the results have remained primarily the same, within only one or two seats in protest. Prompting a change in the government by the people who, until recently, unilaterally supported the Communist party and government over the continued held hatred for the previous monarch government, was the failing communistic economic system. Job losses, pay cuts and higher prices have begun to strain the still struggling Soviet Republic and made many people begin to question the reliability of the communist system. Though communist leaders ran a very long-range campaign, the United Republicans were able to counter that campaign and emerge victorious.

"The party just made the more appealing offer" said Chairman Emami-Kashani. "The people want change and they know that the United Republicans can make that happy. Many of the Deputies are eager to begin work in Tbilisi and start debunking many of the failing communist systems. There is money out there to be made and we will work our hardest to ensure that those who are out of work or cannot pay for their basic needs will get it." It was statements like these that continued to prompt loud cheers from the crowds gathered to show their support and their congratulations on election night. The Communists however, seem to be really struggling to pull themselves together out of this major defeat by the United Republicans. Major party leaders are said to have already left the capital of Southern Tbilisi and returned to party headquarters in New Leningrad, the communist stronghold in Georgia.

As for the Supreme Soviet, the Demographics have certainly shifted drastically from the previous term. The United Republican Party now has a solid 200 seats, the Communist Party with 32, and the Conservative National Party with 18. The Conservative National Party also tried to capitalize on the decline in popularity of the Communist Party but their nationalist and conservative views to both the state and the religion of the Soviet Republic did not sit well with many voters. Several smaller groups protested against the Conservative National Party calling them fascists. Many members believe these negative campaigns by independent groups which targeted them specifically did significant damage and though they claim these were done by the other rival parties they have yet to prove any substantial evidence to back their claims.

Session begins on new Parliament, far-reaching change results.

Northern Tbilisi: The new legislative body sat today in Northern Tbilisi to begin the redrafting of the Articles of Union, the country's former constitution. The 251 seat National Assembly was filled with 125 appointed military officers by the General the other 150 seats were filled by civilians at the request of the General and the remaining seat was filled by the General himself. The new legislative body remained in session for several hours before results were leaked to the waiting press outside.

In votes contested by few in the appointed body several key reforms were made including the creation of a Central Appointment Committee, a state board of senior most military officials whose only ability and power will be the appoint of military officials to the various vacant positions in government. Their decisions are to be base solely on the record and achievement of the individuals running for the office. The first five military officials to sit on this committee were also announced and there names are: Zurab Surguladze, Alexander Guramishvili, Konstantine Gotua, Mikheil Kokochashvili, and Lado Otskheli. Zurab Surguladze was appointed Chief Commandant of the Council, the remaining four achieve the rank of Commandant.

The National Assembly also voted a new amendment which established itself as the permanent legislative body of the Military Republic. Its members are allowed 5 year terms with the ability to run for as many successive terms as possible. Its current structure, seating arrangement were voted on to be maintained. Regional elections will soon be organized for the 150 seats to be opened to the public. The Central Appointment Committee will appoint the 150 officers needed to fill the remaining seats.

The National Assembly also announced their choice for Generalissimus, General Marcus Kalatozov. Though by the new law it is up to the Central Appointment Committee to appoint a Generalissimus or executive head of government there are few doubts that it will not go to the architect of the new government. Initials polls released by the military government at this time show approval rating up for this new Military Republic it is hard for a independent newspapers such as ourselves to comment on the true feelings of the people at large.

Perhaps the biggest change to government and law which posts doubts to the true approval of the people is a controversial law which will now divide the population into two classes of the people: Civilians and Citizens. According to this new law every person born in the Republic will be considered a civilian however, it is not until a person serves a 4 year term in military/state service will a person be considered a citizen and receive a multitude of benefits which go with citizenship including: the right of own property and/or a business, the right to marry, the right to receive State Health care, financial aid, and most importantly the right to vote.

Every civilian 16 years are older are eligible to apply for military/state service so long as they are deemed mentally capable of understanding the oath of service. The government will also make it extremely easy for anyone to drop out of service before their term is up, even during times of war. However, once a individual has dropped out they are excluded from ever applying again. This is to ensure that all volunteers are dedicated, whilst also discouraging deserters. Service to the Military Republic can involve either joining a branch of the Military or manual civil work.

It is too soon to tell whether this new government will succeed whether the last one fail. Currently there are no formalized protests against any action that the current temporary government has taken. A formal, stable, and permanent government is believed to be completed before the end of next week.

Martial Law Ends as New Government is Completed

Northern Tbilisi: Generalissimus Marcus Kalatozov announced today in a televised news conference on the state controlled media network, that Martial law was effectively ending midnight last night. He expressed great pleasuring in announcing this breakthrough to the people of Northern Georgia whom have been living under martial laws for the past six months since the assassination of Prince Demetre Bagrationi III. Though he regretfully reported that the mastermind behind the assassination and attempted take over of the government, Prime Minister Otar Tsutsunava, Generalissimus Kalatozov did happily report that those former parliament members in league with the former Prime Minister had all be successfully tried and executed for their part in the treason.

The televised news conference lasted for an hour during which time Generalissimus Kalatozov touched of several key issues of interest to the public. He revealed the other appointed officials to the Military Republic's government as appointed by the Central Appointment Council as well as reassured the public that the Military Republic would have no part in the Dominion wars now gripping Europe and the Americas. "The Dominion's government has many member states which our own Republic owes its founding to" said Generalissimus Kalatozov. "We shall remain neutral in these global affairs as we have neither the current capability to oppose nor join the Dominion. Besides this Republic has many internal issues the previous government did not address. I, as executive leader, promise to tackle this issues first before we look beyond our borders and develop for ourselves a foreign agenda."

The televised news conference seemed well received across the nation, as many felt relieved to free from martial law. Nationalism seems to be running high in a country whose foundations have yet settled since the Georgian war, regardless of the time it has been since the wars end. Many common citizen have been found in cafes and other public areas openly supporting the new government more so than was present during the monarchy. The general consensus is that the new Articles of Union adopted by the Military Republic have put the citizen's concerns to rest even if it greatly restricts their freedoms in the process. Most influenced by the new articles is of course the military as military service is a quick way to citizenship vs Civilianship people live as now.

Though the Military Republic armed forces are still relatively small, with the new laws in place they are expected to grow and grow fast. Whether or not training will be comparable to the more established powers of the world has yet to be seen. The same goes with military hardware as well. However, for now it seems the government of this new Military Republic is concerned primarily over domestic issues. Saving the crumbling economy, education, and the general well being of the civilianship. Still, close on their mind is the continued threat of the terrorist activity in the Abkhazia region. What they're planning to do and how they're planning to execute their plans are anyone's guess. What is for certain is that this new government will have to complete the task or risk the same fate as the old.

Islamic Republic transitions to Republic of Southern Georgia

Southern Tbilisi: The Consulship of Southern Georgia announced today that the government would transition the nation from being an Islamic Republic to simply being a Republic. The news came after weeks of debate within the Grand Senate over the matter following new census reports that suggest the once dominant Islamic population within the country has declined with the immigration of foreigners from such places as Europe, the Americas, and Africa. Though once a powerful majority following the end of the Georgian war, demographics have shifted and Islamic dominance is no longer the case. In fact, this new data now makes the solely Islamic government an elite minority. In light of this new data the government took this step in order to create a more balanced and fair government. Consuls Ala'eddin Emami-Kashani and Hassan Malek-Yonan announced the Grand Senate decision on the steps of the Senate Building yesterday.

"Today's Southern Georgia is not the same Georgia we originally began building after the Georgian war" said Consul Ala'eddin Emami-Kashani. "The Grand Senate recognizes this and understand that if we were to continue to push Islamic law we would be alienating whole sectors of our society which are vastly growing in a strong majority. For this reason we shall be building a Republic fair for all Southern Georgians." These comments were met with great cheers from the crowd that had gathered outside the Senate Building to hear the results of the debate. This is considered by many who were in attendance as well as others across the nation a historic event giving the times. Though Islamic adherents were the majority when the Republicans beat out the communists a few years ago, their loose laws on immigration and the resulting influx of both Christian Northern Georgians and other foreign nationals have began to slowly overshadow the once Islamic majority.

According to the report published by the government census agency, 50% of Southern Georgians consider themselves a Christian. This includes 27% that consider themselves Russian Orthodox, 17% that consider themselves Genesian Catholics, and 6% Protestant. Muslims make of 40% of Southern Georgia's population with 90% identifying themselves as Shi'a and 5% Sunni. 6% identify themselves as Armenian-Gregorian and a final 4% claimed to adhere to "other/Secular." The report is considered accurate both by government officials as well as other non-governmental agency who also got the same or similar results. This now means that though originally partitioned as the Muslim or non-christian sector of the former territory of Georgia, Southern Georgia is now has a narrow majority of Christian people.

"I myself was not completely surprised by the results of the census" said Consul Hassan Malek-Yonan in a private interview after the government announcement. "After all, we received several reports of Catholic genocide within Northern Georgia so having them flee here would make sense. Concurrently, with the flux of more and more diverse ethnicity I think we'll soon find that being "Georgia" will no longer mean exactly what it did several years ago." Consul Malek-Yonan spoke as a case in point, as his third wife is originally from North Africa, making their daughter of whom Malek-Yonan recently gave birth to, one of the first African Georgians in the country. Most commentators believe that within the next few years the Southern Republic will become a much more diverse country both religiously and ethnically. Many are already using the term "melding pot" in several Southern Georgia periodicals as well as news casts.

Election Results Install New Socialist Government

Southern Tbilisi: After a hotly contested election between the Ruling party of the United Republicans and their chief opponents, the Socialist Democratic Labor Party or Georgian Mensheviks the results are in and the Mensheviks have been announced as the new majoirty party in the Southern Georgian Parliament. "It was a very testing campaign season" said Valiko Zhordania, founder and chair of the Socialist'uri Demokratiuli Leiboristuli Partia or Menshevik party. "The Republicans put up a good fight to remain in power and I certainly tip my hat to them. We actually went into yesterday's vote worrying that we could have done more to tip opinion polls in our direction but I suppose the results speak for themselves. The people wanted change and understood that our party would bring them just that."

The Georgian Mensheviks have their roots within the same Menshevik party that ruled a united Georgia as a free Republic from 1918 to 1921 before being violently pushed out of power by the red army. Many party officials have stated that this victory is a sign of good change for the Georgian people but also a move towards their traditional past. While many party members and supporters credit the party's win to their platform and promises of great social change, many analyst believe their win was actually due to their solidarity and the schism within the Republican party ranks. Mensheviks stood united during the campaign season as Republican Christians and Muslims split over a supposed agreement made between Ala'eddin Emami-Kashani, founder of the United Republican Party and Ali Akbar-Hazrat, leader of a new Georgian Islamic Party. According to sources close to Akbar-Hazrat, Emami-Kashani agreed to build an Islamic Republic in Southern Georgia if Akbar-Hazrat joined the Republican party and brought with him the rest of the Muslims left in the old Communist Party. Akbar-Hazrat agreed and joined the Republicans, bringing with them new Muslim members and the Muslim vote, a key reason the Republicans defeated the Communist Party and brought an end to the Soviet Republic.

However, while Emami-Kashani's government did indeed create an Islamic Republic, it has since moved away from such a state and has instead created a more neutral government. This comes as more and more Christian Georgians migrate over the border from the North. Rumors of genocide against Christian populations have forced many to seek refuge and citizenship in the South and force the once majority Muslim population into the minority. "Promises were made and promises were broken all in the name of politics" said Akbar-Hazrat in a interview on the agreement made just before election day. "When I realized the agreement would not be completely fulfilled I decided to leave the Republicans to create my own party dedicated to the ideas of the Muslim population. We wish for an Islamic state within Georgia for our people to live under the laws we wish to adhere to. Emami-Kashani does not see the need of the such a state as we do and therefore the split was perhaps inevitable." Emami-Kashani failed to comment on the disagreement during the election, leaving many to believe he was focused on damage control. His apparent attempts to hold the party together to win another election failed and while the Republicans still exist, they remain only the major minority party in Parliament.

The Mensheviks have not announced their government yet, but many rumors have pegged Mikhail Tskitishvili as the new Premier. The announcement is said to be official made within the next few days as the first session of the new Parliament will be held within a weeks time.

National Assembly Dissolved, Grand Marshals Obtain Supreme Power

Northern Tbilisi: In a stunning move that not even this news agency saw coming, Generalissimus Marcus Kalatozov dissolved the National Assembly. The announcement came from the residence of the supreme leader, where Generalissimus Kalatozov spoke directly on the matter. "I have, through my executive authority, effectively dissolved the National Assembly as the legislative body of the Republic. Since in inception after the birth of the Republic the National Assembly has devolved into a cesspool of bureaucracy that has forced the citizens to wait ages while Committee after Committee is form to rule on the most trivial of matters. Not only has this cost the country time but it has also cost the Republic millions. The Budget can no longer stand it, the people can no longer stand it, and I shall no longer tolerate it. With the interest of the budget and the people in mind, I dissolved the National Assembly and have given full executive authority to the Grand Marshals for the respective districts they government."

The news came with mix reviews from the public. The senators, all 125 of them from the various districts elected by the people feel that a great injustice has occurred. "We are suppose to be a Republic, a nation of democracy. We were the representatives of the people and now that representation has been taken from us. This is an utter outrage and we cannot stand for this." However, the 125 military representatives that made up the remainder of the National Assembly supported the idea. "While I was certainly honored to hold a seat in the National Assembly we certainly agree that it was completely mired in bureaucratic garbage. The elected senators were more interested in pleasing their political party leaders than the people they represented."

Under the new laws, instead of being represented by an elected senators the 65 districts will now be completely represented by the Grand Marshals that govern them. With now complete authority over their various districts, the Grand Marshals have only the Generalissimus to answer to. To fill the legislative void left by the National Assembly, the Grand Marshals shall be made to meet in Northern Tbilisi for one month, twice a year. Coming together to form the Council of the Grand Marshals, they shall meet directly with the Generalissimus to both advise and help create legislation for the Republic. When not in session, the Generalissimus shall have full legislative authority through the power of his enabling acts. Once used to allow the Generalissimus to create and pass legislation in emergency situations without the consent of the National Assembly, the enabling acts will now allow the supreme leader to create legislation when the Council of the Grand Marshal is not in session.

Military Government to Move to Baku

Northern Tbilisi: In a stunning announcement made over a live national broadcast, Generalissimus Kalatozov has announced that the capital of the Military Republic will be moved from Northern Tbilisi to the port city of Baku. "We live in fearful times when our security is always tested, always threatened by those who wish to disrupt the peace and security our government and military has provided for you, the great people of Northern Georgia." said the Generalissimus in his live broadcast. "While Tbilisi is rightfully our city, the border between ourselves and that of the Southern Republic remains far too close for us to consider the government's safety is secure. By moving to Baku, we shall put a great distance between ourselves and our enemies. We will of course return to Tbilisi when the city can be rightfully taken back by our government, the legitimate government of a united Georgia."

Reactions to the news have varied so far on the street. Some supporters of the government believe that the move is a proper decision as currently the capital of the nation is directly across the river from the capital of the Southern Republic. While mutually assured destruction once governed an uneasy peace, the changing political spheres of influence throughout the world have made such a policy not necessarily assured anymore. Others however, believe the government is abandoning tradition and Georgians alike. Speculation surrounds the government that Azerbaijani influence within government ranks are growing and doing so at the expense of Georgian influence. This has apparently sparked several small scale riots, particularly in towns and villages along what use to be the Georgia-Azerbaijan border. Though small disturbances thus far, many fear that it will only lead to large-scale ethnic violence, the likes of which have not been seen since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Most certainly aware of the consequences of this new move, the Military government has shown no caution in moving forward with their plans. Just this morning, not even 24 hours after the announcement was made, military supply trucks arrived at what is currently the Military Republic Government Building. Troops were quickly to clear out the building, an obvious show that this move has been in the planning for sometime as only crates have been moved out of the building so far. The new home for the government is to be the government building located in downtown Baku.

Certainly am impressive building, it has been sited in reported comments made my many officer's in the government since the announcement, that the new government building will also have far more room than the building they are currently occupy in northern Tbilisi. Still, many wonder if this is not in fact a sign of a rise in Azerbaijani influence. No official response to accusations that hostilities from the Southern Republic have been made by their government. Certainly the border running along the western parts of Georgia still remains a hot zone for violence between the two nations, with the Military Republic trying to put a stop to illegal border crossings from Northern Georgia into Southern Georgia. The Southern Republic has before commented that any military action taken by their security forces in that area is done so in the defense of those crossing the border amid riffle-fire from Northern Georgian forces.

Generalissimus suffers heart attack, dies at age 54

Northern Tbilisi: News out of Baku is that long time military dictator Generalissimus Marcus Kalatozov has died of an apparent heart attack at his private mountain top get away over the weekend. Kalatozov, the mastermind behind the development of the Military Republic, was a powerful figure in Northern Georgian politics following the apparent assassination of Prince Demetre Bagrationi III. Despite persistent rumors that Prince Demetre's death was falsified, Kalatozov solidified Northern Georgia in what he claimed was a Military Republic. A very young man when he came to power, the government systems we see in place today in the Military Republic were all designed and implemented by Kalatozov himself.

The body has since been on display in the Baku government building in the downtown district. Since being placed for public viewing, hundreds of thousands of citizens have come out to pay their last respects to the Military Republic's first leader. Despite rumors of corruption and other misconduct by Kalatozov both in coming to power as well as while in power, a vast majority still hold powerfully loyal opinions about the former Generalissimus. Coming to power at a young age, Kalatozov led the Military Republic during the turbulent times of the Dominion Wars. Northern Georgia was never the site of any conflict nor was the Military Republic ever invaded by the Dominion. Though rumors suggest Kalatozov was a large supporter of Gassel and modeled much of the Military Republic after Gassel philosophy, the official hypothesis is that the country remained safe given its close ties to the Nagians from the time of the Georgian War.

The death of Kalatozov has promoted the very important question, who will lead the Military Republic? According to the Articles of Union that govern the Military Republic, it is the Central Committee of Government Appointment who hold the power to appoint the next Generalissimus. A council of five Commandants, the Committee has been in secret session since news of Kalatozov's death began leaking. The top choice for the job is General Fatali Shushinsk, who recently made headlines as the leader of Military forces in the latest territorial conquest of the Military Republic. A native Azerbaijani, General Shushinsk was personally chosen by Kalatozov to lead Military forces during their conquest of the rest of Azerbaijan. A very capable military officer, Shushinsk is greatly admired by citizens in the Military Republic. This is especially so with the Azerbaijani who have show discontent with the Northern Georgia government lately, with some critics claiming the government was alienating them from government positions despite the fact that Azerbaijani almost completely outnumber native Georgians in terms of recruits in the military. However, some critics of Shushinsk believe that if he is indeed appointed Generalissimus that he will use his position to create a shift in power in Northern Georgia, favoring his native brothers over Georgians.

The international community, especially Southern Georgia specifically, is watching Northern Georgia closely to see what comes from this apparent power vacuum. What many analysts in Southern Georgia believe is that if Shushinsk is indeed put in power, there will be a rift between native Georgians and Azerbaijani. Though most don't believe it will result in full-blown civil war between the two ethnic groups, what many are saying is that it could result in civil unrest as well as a shift in policies that the Military Republic initiates.

General Fatali Shushinsk appointed Generalissimus, Riots Break Out

Northern Tbilisi: An announcement from the Central Committee of Government Appointment yesterday was that General Fatali Shushinsk was appointed the new Generalissimus of the Military Republic of Northern Georgia. This announcement came over a live broadcast on the state-own television service where Chief Commandant Zurab Surguladze, head of the appointment committee personally delivery the message to the nation and those international entities that monitor the television broadcasts of the Military Republic. The Chief Commandant spoke of the wide range of personal achievements General Shushinsk had made already in his military career. The Committee felt confident that his record spoke for himself and that his appointment would not be a regret.

However, it would appear as if the Appointment Committee may already been eating those words as a few hours after the announcement was made, riots broke out in the Abkhazia region of North Georgia, the now region controlled by the de facto government of the Sons of Moscow. Labeled a terrorist group by the Military Republic, the Sons of Moscow have been actively at war with the Military Republic in the region for many years now following the establishment of the Republic itself. They have always claimed that the death of Prince Demetre Bagrationi III was perpetrated by Marcus Kalatozov himself and not a government coup as General Kalatozov claimed when he took power and reorganized the government into the Military Republic. Secondary sources that have been able to get close to SOM members claim the group is primarily funded by the Russian government itself although Moscow has for years, has averted answering any questions on these claims. The fact that the SOM wishes Georgia to return to the Russian Empire leads many to believe that they are indeed backed by Moscow.

The focus of the riots were military outposts along what was unofficially seen as a border between SOM controlled territory and that of the Military Republic. Several Republic soldiers are now dead as a result of the attack and the SOM published several articles both online, through media outlets, and leaflets that have made their way into many Georgian towns and villages in Northern Georgia, explaining their actions. The SOM claims that General Shushinsk's appointment demonstrates a shift occurring in the Military Republic from the majority Georgians to the minority Azerbaijani. They believe it was the logic next step in a master plan for Azerbaijani to become the new elitist power group in the Military Republic. The site the government's move from northern Tbilisi to Baku as one of the first steps taken. They claim this elitist group will soon treat native Georgian's as second class citizens and begin campaigns of discrimination against them. The SOM is calling on Georgians to revolt against the government.

The Military Republic has yet to publicly comment on the riots but sources inside Northern Georgia claim that military forces are already moving in force within "hot spot" territories within Northern Georgia itself, with one of the largest groups heading towards the Abkhazia region. Many political analysis within Southern Georgia still don't believe that this appointment of a Azerbaijani to power will cause full-blown civil war between Georgians and Azerbaijani but do see the rising tension in the region as something the Southern Republic will need to monitor. Most analysis believe that this recent event will at the most, result in a few small pockets of riots between the Military Republic and some disgruntled citizens as well as with the SOM but that full-blown war is out of the question given the fact that intelligence on the SOM gathered by the Southern Republic suggests the SOM is not militarily prepared for such a conflict. "Its a wonder they've lasted as long as they have against the government" one analysis is reported to have stated.

Civil Unrest Continues, S.O.M. Wages War Against Military Republic

Northern Tbilisi: Yesterday, news reached Northern Tbilisi that fighting between guerrilla forces of the Sons of Moscow and the national military has broken out in Chiatura, a small inland city, in a mountain valley on the banks of the Kvirila River. Already the Military Republic's forces, it has been said, have suffered major set backs in maintain the peace in that settlement with many reports suggesting that they may soon be retreating. This outbreak of violence is only one of several recent conflicts that have arose in several of the western most cities, towns, and villages within traditional Northern Georgia. Many analysts are viewing these conflicts as the first major offense launched by the S.O.M. against the Military Republic. Traditionally, the S.O.M. has operated against Republican forces solely within Abkhazia, maintaining an unofficial border between the Military Republic and S.O.M. held territory along the Inguri river where fighting between the two has remain constant.

However, since the appointment of Generalissimus Shushinsk, fighting between the S.O.M. and the military of Northern Georgia has increased and guerrilla forces flying S.O.M. banners have popped up in several settlements beyond the Inguri, including Chiatura. Many attempts have been made to solicit an official response from the government in Baku on the recent outbreaks of fighting in western region but these attempts have failed. The government continues to maintain that the conflict with the S.O.M. is merely one of peace-keeping, that the Military Republic has never once retreated from S.O.M. forces, and that in fact it is the S.O.M. that are currently on the run. Baku insists that they still maintain sovereignty over all of the Northern territories and that S.O.M. terrorist group will be brought to justice swiftly. However, in what can be seen as an unofficial admission of trouble for the Baku government, officials have blamed Moscow influence for the recent rise in S.O.M. activity, stating that they firmly believe agents of the Russian Empire are currently coordinating the S.O.M. and that it is the Tsarist regime of Russia that is funding the group. No official word has be given from Moscow or St. Petersburg on the allegations made by Baku.

Government politics aside, the outbreak of violence in the western region of traditional Northern Georgia has already begun to have side effects on the rest of the country. Scores of refugees from cities, villages, and towns caught in the conflict have begun moving further east, Northern Tbilisi seeing over a hundred new faces a day by some estimates. It is believed that in response to this growing displacement of people, many Northern Georgians are now making illegal crossings into the Southern Republic. While the government of South Tbilisi has made no official comment on the matter, unofficial sources claim that the government is openly welcoming anyone who wises to seek asylum in the South from the conflict in the North. Already, many observers can clearly see the establishment of tent-cities in many open areas of Southern Tbilisi. While many people are hoping that the conflict will soon be resolved, those hopes have been crushed. Civil Unrest Continues, Military Republic Strikes Tskhinvali

Posted Image

Northern Tbilisi: Civil Unrest in the Military Republic of Georgia, otherwise known as Northern Georgia continues as the armed forces of the Military Republic made what is undoubtedly their most decisive strike against the city of Tskhinvali. A known strong hold outside the traditionally held territory of the S.O.M., Tskhinvali became the main target of a heavy artillery strike in the early morning hours yesterday, just before dawn. "We weren't sure what was going on" one city resident reported. "At first it just sounded like thunder off in the distance but then it grew closer and out apartment began to shake. We were fearful for our lives and decided to run out into the street to find safer cover." While authorities in Baku content that their main targets were known S.O.M. strongholds, several city blocks were hit by the barrage that lasted for an hour. Independent estimate the some 50 thousands residence lost their homes to the attack, about 150 are confirmed dead.

"The attack was a necessary strike against the terrorist plague the western part of our Republic" Marshal Besiki Asatiani, internal security official commented in a brief press conference. "We understand that the attacks have cost live as well as homes and the government will work to repair that damage. However, intelligence suggest that the attack was also a success in that it has down wiped out dens of terrorism from the Republic. The S.O.M. must be dealt with in this harsh manner if the Military Republic is to prosper into the future." The statements however conflict with local officials in Tskhinvali who state that the targets were not terrorist dens at all. In an independent report submitted to our paper privately, its suggested that many of the targets were civilian housing where known S.O.M. member had family living in the area. This independent source suggests that this was a personal strike against them made by the Military Republic.

If this independent source is to be taken as credible, then it suggests the extent to which the Military Republic is wiling to go to strike against the S.O.M. In an interesting turn of events, leaders of the Southern Republic of Georgia who have remained silent since the civil unrest began, broke that silence today. "We have received word that the Military Republic's government in Baku is actively targeting civilians to deal with their unrest and this is unacceptable" Minister of Foreign Affairs Nazanin Kandelaki stated in a press conference. "The Southern Republic will not standby and allow our belligerent neighbors sacrifice to the lives in innocent civilians to take down separatist group within their borders. The Southern Republic has so far stayed neutral in this affair but can stay neutral no longer. The government of Baku is a Dominionques government that is an illegitimate power in Northern Georgia. Hence forth the Southern Republic refuses to recognize its sovereignty and instead recognizes the leadership of the S.O.M. as the true voice of the people." The leadership in Baku has yet to make a formal response to the south's declaration however, some reports indicate an increase in military forces along the border.

Armenia Votes Principality

Yerevan: After months of heated debate and discussion among local leaders at a congress held in Yerevan, a vote on the future of the country was called on and the congress voted in favor of becoming a principality. Uncertainty was rampant throughout the country during the tense, two-hour long vote with many Armenians have no idea how the Congress would vote. When the last votes were counted, the results were broadcasted over the radio all throughout Armenia.

"We are happy to know that after so long we will finally have a government, a nation of our own" Armen Orkian, a local leader told our reporters after receiving the news. Having lived in the region all his life, Mr. Orkian has seen many leaders and national powers claim territorial authority over the region. "We've been under the influence of many different government over the years, few have ever been our own. Now, we will have a new government of our own and one we hope will respect the will of the people." Leaders and representatives from the congress have released somewhat vague information in regards to what the new Armenian government will look like. They have declared it will be a constitutional monarchy, with a legislature for the people and a monarch that represents the cultural heritage of the ancient Armenian people. However, what exactly the constitution will entail or if the Armenians will actually have a constitution at all is still something of a mystery.

"There are many competing ideas about the future of our people" Basentsi Sakov told our reporters shortly have the congress recessed just after the vote. "Though this vote does signify a move towards an agreed upon and mutually designed government, I fear we will still have some time to go before we actually have anything in writing." Mr Sakov's family returned to the region from Russia about a generation ago before the Georgian War. He is currently a local leader and representative to the Congress for a community in what is now, southern Armenia. "We have agreed that the government will be a Principality however, there are competing ideas as to which traditional noble family should be given the crown. Furthermore, we know that this monarchy will have some limited powers, the rest going to the legislature but what those limits and powers will be are still under debate. Everyone understand that not all view points will be satisfied when this is all said and done but we are all committed to making the necessary compromises so that Armenians can have a government they are proud of."

The Congress has agreed to take a two-week recess in order for local leaders to return to their communities and discuss what the majority of the people desire. Until such time as a government can be fully declared, a small governing council of locally-elected leaders have been put in place to oversee the basic necessities of the county. Representatives from the Southern Republic of Georgia have also remained in Armenia to further help the Armenians administer their territory until such time as a fully-functional government is available.
