PARAMEKIA, SCYTHIRUS

The sun was just beginning to set when the first protesters started to gather in front of Caspian Trade Building 1, the sleek steel-and-glass edifice that represented Dominion might in the city. First came and handful, but soon a trickle became a torrent as the mass began to arrive. The guards of the building saw it happening. They locked and barred the doors to the compound, and called the police quickly.

All wearing black, waving signs and chanting, every member growing slowly more and more agitated, the very sight of that ugly mass of metal an insult. Rocks were beginning to be thrown, and a nervous excitement began to build. The swarm roared together, finally releasing the built-up frustration at Gassel and all he stood for. There must have been hundreds of youths, faces all caught in sharp contrast by the shadows of the gloaming.

Rakmir and Farina were on the edge of the crowd when the Dominion troops arrived. They stood in riot gear, quickly forming a perimeter around the mob. Loudspeakers blared warnings to disperse.

No one moved.

Then it happened.

The police claimed that they were hit by molotov cocktails, the protestors said that the troops fired first, all Farina knew was that all of a sudden things went wrong. A few moments later, she found herself being pulled along by Rakhmir, thick white clouds of choking gas tearing at her eyes. Then the dark mass of an armored Dominion soldier appeared out of the clouds, gas mask hissing, arms reaching out to take her away forever. She tried to scream, but choked on the tear gas.

There was a loud crack, and the soldier stumbled. Rakhmir began to pull her again, only now he had his father's handgun clenched in sweaty fingers. They disappeared into a side alley, but not before she looked back to see the Trade Building in flames, hear the crack of automatic weapons, and the screams of the dieing kids.

Then she looked down at her palms, the dye stained with sweat still proudly bearing a dark sigil:

This was just the start. They would not stop until every image of Gassel burned.

OOC: Considering this happened in Scythirus, I think this thread should be moved to the Middle East. Unless of course a future Asian bent occurs.

IC:

Deep underneath Sindh, the beeping of a computer awoke Brother Abu Al-Sizistra. He stood from his bunk and wandered over to the computer and found an email waiting for him. He grinned maliciously, seeing who it was from. The God-Emperor never knew about the secure line that existed underneath his nose and the traitor among his midst.

The email read:

"There was a riot orchestrated by rebels within Paramekia. I suggest the Church of Ahimothedes make contact and form an alliance. If we are to discredit and topple over the God-Emperor from his high throne, we will need all the aid we can get. I also suggest forwarding this message to the One True Emperor of Scythirus. He will be interested in what has developed."

Obediently, Brother Al-Sizistra forwarded the message to the Dark Priest. Next, he stepped out into the corridor from the small room to alert the Bishop of the Ahimothedian Temple of what has occurred. A hope for revolution seemed at hand.

OOC: I'd like to see it spread slowly eastward, hence the Asian bent.

Things stayed quiet in Paramekia for the next few days, but the leaders of this new movement had bigger plans than just one city. It became generally more dangerous for Dominion troops to travel throughout Scythirus, with scattered reports of mine and gunmen attacks.These insurgents included Paramekians who were forced to flee by the threat of retribution, people like Farina and Rakmir.

They had gone home that night to find troops at his apartment, and instead hitched a ride out of town with some of the others. The government's cameras were everywhere, nowadays, and no one was completely safe.

Despite the Dominion's best efforts, they could do no more than slow the spread of the graffiti, the most obvious hallmarks of Party activity. One of the most daring campaigns was to spray X's over Gassel's eyes in every Dominion poster around, and tag it with the signature. Sprawling Abu Dahbi was a breeding ground for the revolutionaries, and cells grew here and in other cities.

The Dominion Secret Police began to take measures to control this delinquency...

OOC- I don't think the resistance would start out so strongly out of the gate, AQ. Let it grow and organize naturally throughout the conflict.

IC-

When Major General Wilmar Reinhold, the chief of the Secret Police, had heard from Al-Sahaf of the goings on in his district, he was surprised at first, as the majority of the resistance was in Kasnyia due to their more prolonged exposure to Gassel's rule and the Olympiad's location. The spike of violence in the district did not alarm him, but he would give Al-Sahaf the leeway necessary to crush sedition.

OOC- Then do note that it won't be as successful as you may like, just cuz it ruins the fun of having a resistance RP in the first place.

And Nag, you could just manipulatet he secret police. No need to ask independantly....

IC-

Telescreens throughout the district were now in recording phase, surveilling any goings on anywhere ear the cities. The resistance groups knew they had to stay out of the urban areas if they were going to survive the sweeps from the IPIB.

In Guranburg, Tulzberg was reading clandestine reports of activity in Paramekia. He emained cautiously, but silently optimistic.

Scythirian patrols had been increased twenty fold. While the uprising surge of dissident was somewhat alarming at first, it was nothing that the authorities could not handle with an increase in hours and manpower. Hot spots of rebellious activity were rapidly simmered, and smaller pockets of resistance quelled entirely. Scythirus was not a country where rebellions lasted long.

Insurgents were quickly rounded or neutralized up by the overpoweringly numerous state and secret police. Scythirian authorities were never afraid of massacring innocents to keep their power. Light artillery and chemical weapons were used against large riots. Execution by death was either immediate on the street, or a slow week of starvation and dehydration within a hot cell in a Scythirian prison.

Within a few days, the fire of resistance nearly died out as quickly as it rose. It would only be a skeleton of its former strength.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Within Sindh, a couple of rebels spray painting another Dominion poster during the dead of night were approached by a group of people in black robes. The rebels, unsure what to make of this oddity, remained on guard. One of the robed men stepped forward.
"Rebels against the Dominion, we have a common cause," he said. "We seek to topple the God-Emperor and restore His Divine Grace to the throne. We come to you with an offer of friendship."
One of the other robed figures turned its head toward the further darkness of the street and hissed out a warning. "We cannot linger... patrols are everywhere. I suggest we get off the streets as quickly as possible."
"Quite right, Brother," the first robed man said. Then he looked to the two rebels. "I suggest coming with us...."
These two, Reza and Nikolai, looked at each other, and huddled to quickly make a decision.
After a few tense moments of whispering, they replied yes they would go.
The two rebels were quickly led into an alley, where waited a door that seemed to lead within the building of a private company. The door was opened and revealed a flight of a metal stairwell that led down into the earth. Quickly everyone was ushered in, as patrols could have reached their area at any time.
The stairwell dug deep underground through a perpetual stone shaft. Eventually the bottom was reached, and a dark corridor stood open before them. The robed figures led the way down, a flashlight lit at the front. Passages spidered out around them, branching off in different directions. But the robed men continued going straight.
Finally a large pair of gates with a suspiciously familiar cross on it was reached. The doors were pushed open and admitted everyone into a great chamber beyond that seemed to resemble the interior of a Catholic cathedral. But there was something unusual by the partially seen paintings that were ill illuminated by the candlelight that filled the great room. At an altar ahead awaited a man in dark robes and bishop's miter. The two rebels were sent forward.
"Greetings to you," the bishop said, smiling wide, almost predatory. "I am Bishop Handar Ahmarighad, head of this temple. I've been expecting you, because it has come to my attention and many of our other congregations across Scythirus, that your movement against the Dominion can aid our cause. Since the fall of Saint Abdul and the One True Emperor, we have been forced to live in hiding as the so-called 'God-Emperor' has seeked to stamp out the remnants of our faith.
"He does not care that our faith is a sister to his, he only means to destroy us because we remain loyal to His Divine Grace and the teachings of Saint Abdul. Thus in turn, we seek to destroy him and return order to Scythirus' throne. But we are few. Far too few.... I know that you can help us." He grinned wide, his teeth nearly blackened and rotting. "Right?"
While education in Scythirus was so poor, and media censorship overwhelming, anyone learned in recent events or of Wadji nationality would recognize that Saint Abdul referred to none other than Crown Prince Abdul, the madman who wanted Wadj's throne for himself. Furthermore, references to His Divine Grace or the One True Emperor referred to the deposed Emperor-Priest Jorzo Mafil, former High Priest of Scythirus' Zoroastrian faith the Sacred Religion and former ruler of Scythirus who backed Abdul. Emperor-Priest Jorzo Mafil had been deposed and exiled and Abdul executed almost ten years ago.
This was an Ahimothedian temple, a fanatic Christian blood cult that was rumored to take eating of the body and drinking the blood of Christ quite literally.
Reza and Nikolai gawked stupidly.
When they finally found words to speak, they stuttered, "Uh, we're just some lowly taggers. They don't even let us into the private meetings."
Then Reza began to whisper insistently into Nikolai's ear again. Nikolai screwed up his face, listening with the utmost oncentration. In the dim cathedral, the whispers echoed quiet clearly, making several words plainly audible, words like 'we'll be rich' and 'the Captain.'
The two broke up their huddle and spoke with more resolve.
"We are just taggers," said Nikolai.
"But we know some guys higher up than us on the chain," Reza added.
"If you let us, we can give you a secure phone number to one of our bosses. They call him the Captain. Real scary guy, lots of scars."
"Just... Do us a favor and drop our names, all right?"
Nikolai pulled a scrap of paper from his bag and handed it to an acolyte. On it was scrawled in sharpie a telephone number.
Bishop Ahmarighad nodded as his acolyte handed him the paper in turn. "Very well," he said after looking it over. "Brothers, see that these two get proper lodging for the night. I will see about contacting their leader myself."
Each of the dark robed monks bowed to the bishop before leading the two rebels away. The Bishop quickly hurried off toward his private quarters.
As result, later in the night, the Captain would receive a call from a mysterious solicitor.
"We have a common cause. Meet us at the eastern outskirts of Sindh tomorrow night to discuss our mutual goals."
In a coffee shop in the little suburb of Bakt, just outside of Sindh, sat the Captain. The pattering of the rain intermingled with the rumble of automobiles on the street outside; the Captain warm and comfortable with a hot mocha and a state-run newspaper. A cell phone lay on the table, ready to direct his contact into the little shop.
The Captain was a battle-hardened veteran of many wars- as evidenced by the long scar running down the left side of his face, through a rather prosthetic-looking eye. No one knew why he had turned against the God-Emporer, all that they knew was that he was not a man to be trifled with, as Resistance Captain of the City of Sindh. Rumors abounded about the mysterious man, most prominent among them were the tales of horrible sadism and butchery.
The cell phone rang, and on the other end a man's voice requested the Captain's whereabouts, identifying himself as the contact with a short code phrase. The old soldier gladly directed his contact into the cafe with brief directions. Eventually two men wandered in, one on a cell. The Captain quickly waved them over.
The two men, dressed unassumingly, sat down across from the battle hardened warrior.
"We represent the Bishop," one of them said. "We come to discuss a strategic alliance."
The Captain leaned over the table and spoke plainly.
"First off, I've heard all of the rumors, but I want to hear it for myself. Who are you, and how can you help us knock out the Dominion? What's your angle? "
"Second, what kind of 'alliance' do you have in mind? There's no real organization to ally with. I run things around this town, but I can't speak for all of the Captains across Scythirus."
