It was a peculiarly hot day for the Mallumo capital's standards, as if the weather wanted to greet the strange group of people riding bactrian camels in Sevastopol's main avenue. These strangers wearing khalats easily caught the eye of the Mallumians who were going to work that morning. After reaching their destination, the Mallumian Foreign Affairs Ministry or what it seemed to be one, the head of the group, a middle aged bearded man dressed in a vividly coloured silk khalat, asked to meet the highest official on duty, speaking an unknown but comprehensible Turcic language. When one was found the man went on and placed an elaborate leather pouch in his hands. After having performed their task the group returned to their encampment in the outskirts of Sevastopol, waiting there for the Mallumian response. Being stunned for quite a time by the strange sight, when left alone the Foreign Ministry official went on and opened the pouch. Inside he found a blue silk khalat of the finest quality embroidered with gray wolf fur and a letter. After admiring the exquisite workmanship of the khalat he opened the letter and read it in great curiosity. It went like this: "From the Foreign Affairs Secretariat of the Holy Republic of Uyguristan As salaamu 'alaykom wa rahmatullah His Holiness Afak Khan Khodza greets wholeheartedly the pious ruler of the one, which is great among the nations of the world. After consulting ancient scrolls found hidden in caves outside our nation's capital Bishkent, we were surprised to discover that from times immemorial a lost, tenth Uygur tribe had migrated to the West in a quest for new pastures for their camel and horse herds. Since Allah has placed in our humble hands the mission to unite all Uygur tribes we could not but search whether these lost brothers of ours still exist and inform them about the joyous event of the founding of an Uygur homeland. We have launched this great expedition to the West in order to discover where our brothers have settled and if thee are reading now these lines it is because our search has come to an end. We request that you accept this khalat as a token of the eternal friendship of the Uygur nation and may the tenth of the Uygur tribes become the bridge for a fruitful cooperation between our great peoples. May the Mercy of Allah provide for you |

It took a great deal of time for the local officials to understand what should be done in this situation. Finally, it was decided that there was no other course of action but to contact Timur II himself and ask for his advice. As the Chief Justice composed his own letter, he made the provisions for it to be left astride the city walls so that this mysterious delegation might, they, discover it and come to reveal themselves. As they had left a magnificent gift (which was decided would go to the man who recovered the letter initially) the Mallumian delegation would likewise grant them something. Several cut emeralds, a ruby, and three cultured pearls were attached to the message, hoping to repay the previous gift of a robe. “From His Honor, Timur II, Chief Justice of the MKD: We thank you for the gift that has been provided to us, and the opportunity to sit down at a table together that we would be allowed to enjoy, once more, the fruits of our brotherhood. Yes, the Uygur nation you speak of lives in our borders, this is true. They traveled far, as we all had, in the days that passed many moons ago. Today, we live as brothers here, in the land called Mallumo. We regret, however, to inform you that there are differences. We had left before Islam arrived, for instance. That being said, I wish to grand you an immediate audience and receive you formally. Would this be allowed? Timur II Chief Justice Mallumo” |
