This guy was sitting on my car trunk this morning which I found unusual, since this is a Chinese Preying Mantis, usually a pet not found in the wilds of Michigan (the green stripe is the give-away). My question is: can these 15cm long monster bugs hurt you in any way? Bite you? Wrestle you to the ground? Spit tobacco in your eye? Eat you while you sleep? Just wondering because I have never seen one of these in the wild before - I've seen the smaller US native, but never one of these giants!

It could become your pet:

I haven't read anything about mantis attacking humans.

My friend once bought a real christmas tree and went to sleep on christmas eve little did he know that a couple of mantus had made their way inside it. The next morning he found more than 200 matus in the tree and in the surrounding rooms and under Pennsylvania law the matis is considered an endanged animal or it was back then i can't much remember anyway they were forced to pick off each matus by hand and get them outside

 That's a pretty good size Mantis. Although they wouldn't "attack" a human to my knowledge, they do bite defensively. Been there done that, its like getting squeezed by a pair of sharpened tweezers. Where you really wanna worry is things that sting and things that have venom.

Black Widows, Rattlesnakes, and Scorpions are very much around my area. Scorpions less so, but they hang around. Not sure about your area, NH. Though, the last thing I'd be concerning myself with is a Mantis, they be good for pest control. I consider them signs of good luck!

I think AA will first hypnotize the snake with his tie. Then the snake will believe AA is a gentleman who is not a threat and relax. That will be the last mistake it will ever make. B)

I live in the boondocks of Arkansas (Yeehaw!) so I deal with bugs all the time, the only ones I can't stand are ticks and wasps. Mantis are noramally pretty cool, and I did catch one for a pet once, but i forgot to feed it and he died. I loved that Mantis v_v...
