So I don't think anyone knows yet, but I sort of hit someone's car in an intersection about 4 weeks ago. This was in my mom's car. I was also unlicensed. But I was insured. (My mom's insurance covers anyone in the car, no matter who they are.) It wasn't bad. The airbags didn't deploy, and both people inside the other car were totally okay. I took a chest full of steering wheel, and the impact shook up my arm for a bit, so it was a tad painful on my end. But they were okay. They told the officer at the scene this. So we call our insurance company, let them handle this... Then about 4 weeks later from that day, we get a call from the investigator tasked with looking at this case. Guess what? FOUR WEEKS after the fact, the opposing driver/passenger are now claiming injuries, claiming they have a lawyer, etc. This stinks of bullshit to me, seeing as 1. They both told the investigator they were fine at the scene, 2. They were able to drive away from the accident, 3. And that given the point of impact only the passenger can be injured, and at that, only VERY slightly. But then the private investigator dropped a bomb, so to speak: These people were in an accident just two weeks prior to when I hit them. It was pretty bad, resulted in both cars damaged beyond repair. And they were both injured from it as well. So what the investigator says is that he thinks they are trying to claim injuries on a previous accident, which, if true, can be taken as perjury. Which means they'll be in deep shit. It just sucks how people try to get away with stupid shit like this. |

I'm not sure if I should laugh at those people, be pissed, or... or... I have no idea. Sound like they are taking you for a joy ride through the legal system though. |

Well pretty much we have enough evidence to prove their claims are bull, so if they attempt to sue, then...we'll fire back. |

Welcome to my world! On a daily basis I am faced with possible lawsuits for offending someone's religion, attempting to impose my political beliefs on someone, physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental battery, etc. The only advice I can give you is from here on out...DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION...! It sucks, but in this world you had better CYA! Because no one else will. People are jerks and your complaint on the situation is valid, but that is the world you and I live in. That being said, I hope things turn out for the best. |

In Quebec, you cannot sue other people over car accidents. The SAAQ (Société d'Assurance Automobile du Québec) pays directly the victims of car accidents (a predetermined amount, depending on the injuries). As a result, suing over car accidents is not permitted. |

See now that is cool. Every government should do that. Too much greed involved in today's systems. Hell, that's why the US is going all to hell anyways. The rich got so greedy they screwed themselves over! Too long to explain. Read Wealth of Nations. |

You are almost never suing a person after a car accident. You are suing their insurance company. All this Quebec law seems to do is socialize car insurance. |

Private insurance companies do not have to worry about abusive suing (sp?), so insurance costs are much more cheaper than any other province in Canada (and probably all States in the US). |
