While compiling data for yet another ranking list, I had an idea. What if, for each region, there was a player's guide? No, not a how to play guide like we have here. It would be less basic and more specific than that. Instead, this guide will encompass IC things you should know, military sizes of your neighbors, economic statistics for the region, and so on. Hopefully, this will help newcomers be acclimated to the game, and maybe even help some of us old(er) timers quickly find information we're looking for. With that in mind, I would like to begin this guide to Europe. ------------------------------ Rankings So, you are new here and you have no idea what your getting into. You've requested that nice spot on the map... but you don't knwo anything about your neighbor. I mean, they could be a blood thirsty dictatorship, or a peace loving democracy. You never know. To give you the idea about the relative strength of each nation in Europe, here is a quick run down of military and economic ratings for each Europe-based country. These rankings may, or may not be useful to you. These rankings are somewhat fluid and do change from time to time. I (Toussaint) will attempt to keep these rankings up to date, so that they may be as meaningful as possible.

Europe: The Major Players For a newcomer to stumble into a world with a completely new history and culture than what they are used to, things can be overwhelming. You may have to do a whole lot of research into our world before you can even begin to understand why Menhad is at war again, or why certain groups seem to hold all the cards. That's what this section is for. This section of the European Player's guide will give you a quick run down on all of Europe's countries and organizations, and hopefully help you on your way to becoming an acclimated player. I recommend that you study the Official European Continent Map, so that you can be familiarized with territories near your own. Alliances of Europe Unlike many other continents, the alliance system of Europe is not to terribly complicated when looked at from afar. Europe is presently one of the more politically tranquil continents. This section, however, exists to look at the alliances of Europe that are either still active or continue to impact European politics despite their dissolution. Alliance Name: The Treaty of Konigsburg Current Members: Germany, Pascoag, Quaon, Menhad, Sicily and Sardinia, Kasnyia, and Yshurak Ideology: European Supremacy Other Information: The Treaty of Konigsburg is by far the most dominant organization in Europe at the present moment. The alliance encompasses a very large number of states, and in a sense currently monopolizes power on the continent. The Treaty of Konigsburg was originally founded to keep Europe united, but has evolved to act more like a European Peace-keeping organization that has begun to expand its look to the world abroad. Alliance Name: The European Security Cooperative Current Members: The Holy Roman Empire, Porcu, The Polish Federation, Mallumo, and Riocht Eire Ideology: European Security Other Information: The European Security Cooperative is another Euro-centric alliance founded to keep Europe controlled. The organization is still young and small, however is currently the second most powerful alliance on the continent (albeit the only one besides the ToK). The alliance is headquartered in Vienna, and keeps its eyes solely on Europe. ------------------------------- Alliance Name: The Madrid Pact- STATUS INACTIVE Members: Çerdoné, Andorra, Porcu, Harkeburg, Canton Rouge, Mircania, the Polish Seperatist Union, and Marslava Ideology: Democracy Other Information: The Madrid Pact was a radical alliance headed by Çerdoné that was started with the founding of Andorra and ended after the War of Çerdon Aggression. The Madrid Pact sought to topple authoritarian governments in favor of democratic ones, and is remembered as a destabilizing force in Europe. The pact was eventually destroyed after war with the Treaty of Konigsburg, which ended up with Hispania annexing Andorra and Çerdoné being occupied. The war is used frequently by ToK members as a reason that Democratic Alliances are dangerous. Edited by Toussaint, Aug 15 2008, 01:29 AM.

OOC - Even though I am not formally in this region, I certainly hope that I can respond to this post. I have a problem with these guides considering that actually stastics change on a day to day basis. I find best that NS Economy's region wide guides work well. Just my two cents. |

Edited. The A-Z should be finished for now. And DW, I know they are fluid, but it is a useful bit of a reference to have. If anybody would be willing to give me an updated "Balance of power" for Europe, I would like to incorporate that. |

This was added as a link to the European Directory, there is no need to have it separately pinned. |

I think thought that this thread has so much valuable information that it should be pinned in its own merit instead of included in the Directory. It is designed as a one stop place for newbies to orient themselves in Europe. Toussaint has done the forum a great service here, and it would be better served if something we want newbies to see is more easily visible. Hence, pinning it so they can immediately see it, instead of putting it in the directory which is one further click away, would be, IMO more helpful. What do you think? |

Thanks for the props, RD :) Just FYI, I plan on making my next topic "Religion in Europe," and it ought to have a good bit about each major European religion and how it effects relations on the continent. Afterwards, I'll likely go on to make a players guide to the Middle East. I'm in a productive mood. :P |

Personally, I agree with NRE. But I'd usually be happily defer to the judgement of the Europe mod on this... as we're kinda mod-less I guess my opinion becomes "meh". Great idea for a religious guide Tou. |

While I in no was disagree that what he has put together is helpful and a good topic for new players to look at when starting out in Europe, IMO this thread's credentials put it in the same category as the other topics of the Directory thread hence my decision. If we what new players to be informed, then the directory has almost everything they need to be informed about when it comes to Europe and should be used as a reference tool to them when at all possible. Now, if you wish we can renamed the directory to something more eye catchy to new players like "READ ME FIRST" or "ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EUROPE" but I still stand by my decision to link this thead in the directory. Now if you want to superseced me as a Global Mod and pin it as a seperate topic, then I'll bow out and defer to your judgment. But if it's left up to me, then I personally feel no need to reverse my decision as I think this thread falls in line with the other topics of the directory. |

Just my two cents, as the European mod in exile. None of the topics in the European Directory, besides perhaps this one and images of our leaders are up to date or relevant to now. The Directory either needs to be redone completely or unpinned, putting this in its place (in fact, we should merge the directory into this thread, to keep everything in one place). |

NRE, I don't want to supercede anybody on anything. I just wanted to offer the other perspective. I was the one who pinned it before you unpinned it, and I have no intention of pinning it again. edit: I think Quaon's point is valid. Edited by Rhadamanthus, Aug 18 2008, 12:49 PM.

ok there are a few topics that are out of date, I agree. but I also think that there are a few topics that should still be there, specifically some of the more historic topics. I've renamed the directory, which honesty should catch the eye of any new player. If this continues to be an issue I'll bow out to the majority, but I think the way it is now, is fine. |
