I took a sleeping pill, tried to go to sleep, but it has no signs of even effecting me. Taking two doses of NyQuil usually drops me, and these pills have five times the dose of what is in NyQuil that makes you sleep. Yet I still can't sleep. I don't want to risk taking any more medicine (don't want to OD). I'm really getting sick of this insomnia. Any advice?

Get more exercise.

As a landscaper, nothing drops me into sleep as good as a hard day's labor.

I started out my exercise regimen biking to school (4 mi.), and it's a rule of thumb for me not to drive anywhere under 3 mi..

/advice.

I'll try that out. I haven't been working BECAUSE of my insomnia. It is at this point correctly classified as acute insomnia, meaning it's been over a month of this.

I do exercise, but this is Louisiana. Sucks to exercise outside. I'll try to make my exercise more strenuous then.

I'm hoping my insomnia ends when I get back to college. I know its a mental thing having to do with family problems and social isolation. If it doesn't stop when I get back, I don't know what the hell I'm going to do. At this point, my going plan is to try to get a girl, and this along with renewed social contact with my friends should cure me pretty fast. So goes my theory.

I find a good bender with lots of whiskey cures insomnia right away!

Also, you are in Louisiana - try wrestling gators, dodging water moccasins, dancing with cotton mouths!

Less cardio, more musclar exercise.

It's important to warm up, and cardio is better for your health (and better for promoting natural sleep)... but musclar excerise will cause more fatigue.

Warm up, excercise, pop a sleeping pill, cool down, go to bed.

If you normally drink caffine, I don't recommend cutting it out of your diet - caffine withdrawal causes insomnia. But don't drink it after midday and try to cut back.

Warm brandy and lemon is good for sleeping. Don't mix alcohol and sleeping pills.

I find whiskey is good for sleeping... when consumed in excess... which isn't recommended.

A nice massage or some hanky-panky is good for stress related sleeping disorders.

Water moccasins and cotton mouths are the same snake...

Any way, I find that if you unplug every eletronic device in your room helps.

Warm Milk is good.

The Hanky-Panky helps a lot to.

Get up at 5 in the morning and work until 4 in the afternoon and continue working on documentation and modifications until about 10 or 12 that night and that should pretty much do the trick.

The work thing worked pretty well. I'm leaving that to the Lucky thread though...

Good advice though, Nag.

Alcohol doesn't help me sleep unless I drink it in excess. And we're talking 10 shots of whiskey, brandy, or vodka kind of excess. Otherwise, alcohol just keeps me awake.

The sleeping pills haven't been working.

I don't drink much caffeine. I've made a point of it for the very reason you listed. Don't want to have to suffer withdrawals from an addictive substance.

As far as exercise, problem solved when I'm back in college. Same with the sex... hopefully. Usually I'm the one who's good at massage. They say I should go professional.
