General Bend Vena wondered if he was in hell. He had never believed in that sort of thing, being an atheist even before the Hu’fievren had been assassinated, but it seemed so real. Everywhere he looked there was fire. It hurt to breath. He was lying on the floor, unsure of how he had gotten where he was.

He attempted to force himself up. The mere movement of his limbs was one of the hardest tasks he had even undertaken in all his years. He groaned, his eyes filled with tears. After what seemed like an eternity of struggle, he managed to force himself into a sitting position. That was the limit of his body. He needed to breath, he needed to…

There was only darkness.

Bend opened his eyes again. Everything was out of focus, but he could tell at least that he was outside of the building now. His breathing was raspy, but he was breathing. Crouched beside him was one of his men. The soldier’s face was covered with soot, and his uniform was torn in several places. One of the tears looked like it had been caused by a bullet, but the soldier wasn’t bleeding.

The general’s vision came back into focus. The man crouching beside him was Colonel Joseph Stevenson, one of the few white Chiron soldiers that had stuck by Bend until the end, even after the Chiron government had officially withdrawn from Zolony. Bend and his few thousand men, based out of the city of Malcolm, had continued to fight a guerilla war against the new government in Zolony, but it looked like it had all just come to an end…

“Joe…” Bend whispered, his voice hoarse and raspy. He clutched at his subordinate’s shoulder, needing some kind of support, any kind of support. His whole body ached and burned. After stopping for a moment due to the pain, he continued. “What happened?”

“Sir,” the Colonel began. His soft and soothing voice was a great contrast against the hurt that the entire world was to Bend at the moment. “They snuck past our lines at night, somehow. I…I can’t believe our men didn’t catch them, but they firebombed the HQ and some of the barracks. By the time we got together an effective resistance, the bastards retreated and they started firing mortars at us.”

Bend looked around him. He was in the middle of the street, the burning HQ that Joseph had hauled him out of to his left, buildings that had been ruined by shells to his right. He hadn’t noticed the shell fragments littering the street. The general grimaced; the enemy had been thorough. “How many do we have left?” he asked.

Joseph looked away, shaking his head. “Come on Joe, tell me!” Bend demanded, shaking him.

Joseph again hesitated, but at last forced out the words. His voice trembled. “Six men.”

Bend’s eyes widened. Six? He must have misheard Joe. He must have.

“The…their general, Hi’o Vendor’zic, well…most of our men are native, sir, you know that, and that bastard…that bastard sent his men across Zolony to round up their families, their wives, their daughters, their mothers…and they brought them here, and he announced that he would have them all executed and raped if we didn’t surrender. Sir…please don’t blame them. They had no choice…if my family had been there, I would’ve done anything…anything. The only ones left are the Chirons, sir.” He paused for a moment, then added: “I think they’re going to burn the town down.”

Bend was silent. This was going to be the place of his death, it seemed. Fitting perhaps. Hi’o Venderzor’zic was removing a cancer from the new Zolon Confederacy….cancerous growths had to be removed early if the body was to be saved, and drastic measures were often needed. It had only been a few months prior that Bend had removed such a growth of his own, utterly ruthlessly, slaughtering innocents who might have been harboring insurgents. It had been too late to save the body at that point, though…

The general sighed. It seemed his sins were catching up to him. He still believed that his earlier actions had been justified…but…they seemed to have been a wasted effort. Bend had fought for a free Zolony, and he had failed. He wasn’t afraid to die, at this point. What else did he have to live for? He had no family, nothing of the sort.

Joseph interrupted Bend’s reflections. He was holding a pistol in his hand. “Sir, you are an atheist, correct?”

Bend nodded.

“Since…they’re going to kill us anyway, I figured that perhaps we could go out with a little dignity.” He brandished his pistol. “But…before that, I’d like to ask you to accept Jesus Christ into your heart. I can’t let a man go to hell when I know that I can see him saved.””

Bend grunted. Joseph came from a family of missionaries. “Don’t waste your time, because I don’t waste my time on that bullshit.”

Joseph looked hurt. Despite his disappointment, he raised his pistol to the general’s temple. He paused for a moment, then lowered it. “Before this ends…if not God, what keeps you going? You’ve got no family, no motivation to keep fighting for what’s right.”

“I lived for my nation, and for my men,” Bend respond, simply.

“What makes you different from the Hu’fievrenists, then, besides sa lack of belief in some deity? Once you get past that, the beliefs are essentially the same…pure nationalism, nothing more.”

Bend considered for a moment. He had never really thought to reflect on that sort of thing. It scared him a bit, but he brushed it aside. “Forget it. Just pull the damned trigger.”

Joseph raised the pistol again. “Goodbye, Joe,” Bend whispered.

“Goodbye, Bend.”

That was the last thing he heard.

Chief Office of Public Relations,
Dominion Foreign Ministry

------------------------------

Ajo-Ogechukwu Theater Command Base, Vallisburg, Dominion Ziyer

Ever since the war in Zolony had started, Objekt-908s, both bomber and transport models, were flying in every few minutes, sending supplies to the Ziyer border with Flumes or heading for the airbases on standby. Supply ships from Dominion Caronicilla and Quebec were carrying troops and warmachines, using Ziyer as a staging point for the eventual order to move into the southern neighbor.

For Caronicillian Field Marshal Jan Karelburg, Commander of the Dominion's African Expeditionary Forces that were assisting in this war, the fun was only about to begin. With the continent in war-time mode, Governor Erich Rawiri had changed over authority to Karelburg pending victory in this conflict. Now all they needed was the signal from the Dominion Army Group in Zolony to make their move...

Regent Ock’on Bulda had been enjoying himself very much over the last few months. He could hardly believe that he was back in his native Zolony, back in that beautiful land where he had been born and where he had risen in the ranks of the army until the Hu’fievren himself took notice of him. It had been hard work, attempting to bring Zolony back on her feet, again. Investors were skeptical, but loans from Scythirus were forthcoming. He was relatively happy with how everything was coming together, especially the military.

The military had always been the pride and joy of Zolony, taking up the vast majority of the government’s budget. Zolony’s was a martial culture. The military functioned as more than a mean’s of defense, it was an institution that Zolons looked to for order and security. Getting it to where it had been before the death of the second Hu’fievren would be a great morale boost to all Zolony. Better yet, Bulda had even started recruiting for the Holy Guard, the most elite unit in all Zolony.

There was one problem though; while, in the west of Zolony, army units were being trained properly and swore allegiance to the Hu’fievren and the Regent, in the east, General H’io Venderzor’zic had been recruiting over a hundred thousand militiamen and the like for his Swords of the Hu’fievren army, which was waging war against the New British remnant, centered on Malcolm. Ock’on didn’t trust H’io for a second, and was deathly afraid that they man might stage a coup.

Bulda had been having lunch in the capital building with one of the perspective officers of the Holy Guard when the news of the victory at Malcolm reached him. His cell-phone, some new contraption made by an American company, started ringing, and he answered. On the other line was his secretary. “Sir,” she began. “General Venderzor’zic has sent word that the colonist resistance forces have been defeated. He is linking up with Dominion forces and will, as ordered, commence the invasion of Flumes.”

Bend hadn’t ordered an invasion of Flumes. He hadn’t had contact with the Dominion about invading Flumes. H’io apparently had decided this on his own, and there wasn’t much Bend could do about it. “Very good, thank you,” he said into the phone, and then hung up. He turned to the man whom he had been eating with. “I’m sorry, but something very important just came up.” He got up and left, hurriedly.

OOC: Zolony isn’t in the Dominion, but it’s allied with it.

General H’io Venderzor’zic was incredibly pleased with himself. Three million of his men, the Swords of the Hu’fievren, were beginning their march on the Flumesian border. These were all his men. Not a single one of those soldiers had been trained by men other than himself and his officers. He had assembled a force of six million men loyal to only himself and to the Hu’fievren. He had used that force to at last destroy the Malcolm guerillas, and now he would use that force to make Flumes a part of the African Confederacy once again, as it should be.

Regent Bulda was such a coward. He never would have approved this sort of action; this was the man who had insisted that the white scum that surrendered be treated as prisoners of war, rather than be executed. To think of it, showing mercy to the colonists who had butchered Zolony’s people and culture for so many years! Of course, Bulda hadn’t been in Zolony during those years, rather hiding in Scythirus. What did he know of suffering under New British rule?

H’io pushed the thought from his mind. He needed to focus at the moment. Flumes’ army might be inferior to Zolony’s, but it was certainly going to be better than the ragtag group that the Swords of the Hu’fievren had eliminated from the face of the Earth just hours earlier. Beyond that, they’d have greater motivation than the guerillas had; they’d be fighting on their own territory, for their homeland.

Blitz tactics would be needed. As many targets as possible would have to be captured or destroyed before the Flumesian military could react. Acies would have to be under Zolony’s thumb within twenty-four hours and Flume’s government would have to be forced to say “uncle”.

The Zolons were aided by the fact that it had been relatively recently that Flumes and Zolony had been united under the first African Confederacy. Many military units might turn traitor and aid Zolony. Beyond that, the full forces of the Dominion were going to be distracting the Flumesians in the north.

H’io sent a telegram to the Dominion commanders in Ziyer, instructing them to begin their invasion. Moments later, Zolon soldiers and tanks began rushing over the Flumesian border, aided by artillery and helicopter support.

CLEVELAND ROCKS!
The only word to describe the state of Bakuba was chaotic.

The President had left Acies for his longtime jungle hideout. Many citizens rushed to form local militia's at the return of the Hu'fievren. While these self announced patriots would fight, many more immediately raised the old flag of Flumes, waiting anxiously to wave, salute, even join the passing armies. Most of Bakuba's military was actually loyal to the President. While Flumesian's Hu'fiervren military figures lives had been spared after the last war, they had been knocked out of the military. One thing the new regime had done well was check the backround of new recruits. Most were freedom fighters against the Hu'fievren before, and would still be now. Their were a handfull that deserted, and a few select bands, particularly in the south were able to secure tanks and weapons to join the Hu'fievren fight from the inside.

...

Adoula's bunker was crawling with arriving people. Humvee's rolled in from the local village, tanks cruised into the massive underground bunker's garage. Helicopters were brought in on tractor trailers from a airport 30 miles away after the lone helipad was bogged down. This was it. This is where Bakuba's hope lay. President Adoula wasn't about to give up on his country. He was not however a stupid man. He knew the odds, he knew them all too well. He and his top trusted Kolomos sat in the boardroom, their eye's peering over a massive map of Central Africa. The map was a sight in itself, electronic, it displayed live troop counts from bases relayed through a feed station lower in the bunker. Billions were in the bunker. This was it. Adoula knew a Guerilla Campaign would not be sufficent. It was simply to large of a nation to defend using only guerilla warfare. He also debated heavily what to do to the north, reports were coming in that Ziyer was amassing troops as well. Adoula also knew the base wasn't secret as it once one either. Too many knew of it to trust it to loyalty. The bunker could substain any air attacks, any nuclear, chemical attacks. It would be hard to invade on foot, but that was the only way. He knew however if it came to that, Bakuba would have no chance. He knew he had to act fast. He picked up the phone, opened the briefcase, and got online to launch the missles. He could hesitated though. Chemical warfare was something that he couldn't just do with the push of a button. This would take thought. Especially when he would be launching it on parts of his own country.

At the Nebricks Memorial Air Force Base In Gquavie (South Flumes), something was about to happen that could potentially change the course of the nation. Leading the troops was a Flumesian Hu'fievren. General Vatarsom knew what he could do Along with his almost solely FH (Flumesian Hu'fievren) pilots and ground personal, he prepared for what would in affect be the defense of Flumes from itself. Vatarsom held in his hand a radio, connected directly with President Adoula.

OOC- While I was hoping Caron would take up the mantle of acting for Karelberg, I guess I will have to RP the invasion from the north.

IC-

Upon receiving orders from Field Marshal Karelberg, several divisions of jungle infantry and armored surged across the Dominion border into northern Flumes, the main advance pushing in just west of Acies, a smaller front coming in from Acies east and the rest covering the length of the Dominion-Flumesian border. With the MJOLNIR not availble due to a weapons test currently in progress in Asia, the Dominion forces would not recieve the assistance of a large-scale EMP blast, and thus treaded cautiously but quickly south.

Off the Flumesian coast, the Dominion Navy was setting up a blockade with fast-attack patrol boats, Vallahalla-class cruisers, Archangel-class destroyers, and a Stryker-class supercarrier, the DNS Ra, which commanded the fleet.

From Dominion airbases in Ziyer, East Ziyer, and Zolony, Objekt-908 bombers were flying low and pummeling their targets with MOABs and Agent Orange, as Morgehnraete-built fighters and Objekt-112 WIG gunships began their conquest of the Flumesian sky.

The Zolon army pushed through border town after border town, dispatching any local resistance that stood in its way. General H’io Venderzor’zic had ordered his men to stay their hand against the civilian population, rather than partake in the same sort of slaughter that had occurred years earlier, when Zolony had massacred a great deal of southern Flumes’ population during the War of Heresy.

The Zolons did not stop their advance until they reached the Flumesian military base at Nebrick. The General ordered his men to prepare to overrun the base. His men were eager to get into the thick of things, and were happy to at last get a chance to fight the enemy. Before the battle could begin, however, it was revealed to the Zolons that the Flumesians were Hu’fievren loyalists, and were prepared to help their friends from the south push further north.

The regulars of the two armies felt some suspicion for each other; many of the Flumesians had heard stories of the horrors that the Hu’fievren’s armies had inflicted upon their homeland a generation ago. They knew what their current allies were capable of, and it frightened them. The Zolons, on the other hand, knew that Flumes had once been Zolony’s ally, but it had failed to intervene when the second Hu’fievren was assassinated, leaving Zolony to suffer for years.

Nonetheless, the two forces would have to make their peace with each other for the moment. General H’io ordered the advance to continue. Just to show his contempt for the Zolon regent, he declared himself the Governor of South Flumes in the name of the African Confederacy.

The war would continue.

Acies was surrounded.

The Flumsian enemy had decided to turtle their forces in their capital, abandonong the surrounding lands with the exception of a logistics corridor that led to the center opf their country. It had taken a week, but now the corridor to the capital was severed. Acies was on its own.

With capital ships bombarding the shoreline and alternatively seending troops to secure beacheads, it wasn't long before the war maps of the Flumsian coast looked like a patchwork quilt.

Bombers from East Ziyer continued to bombard the interior, though the effect was less successful with the heavy foliage. Nevertheless, the campaign continued.

The war had been going on for a week now. The first blitzkrieg attack had managed to cripple the military of Flumes, allowing the Zolons and their allies to slowly make their way to Acies, Surviving military bases had been destroyed, but the Zolons took care not to take out industrial centers. They would be useful soon enough.

The government in Acies had no way out. They were surrounded on all sides, and if they attempted to fight with the few troops they had left, Acies would be burned to the ground. They would likely be hanged by the Zolons, but they would suffer an even more gruesome fate if they continued to resist. The Flumesian government officially surrendered.

Triumphant, General Venderzor’zic began marching his soldiers into the city. This was his moment…he had just shown the world that Zolony was not to be trifled with any longer, and that the African Confederacy was back. More importantly, he had shown Zolony that he was not to be trifled with.

Meanwhile, Regent Ock’on Bulda cursed as he watched the news reports. The war was over in Flumes, but the cold war for control of Zolony and the new African Confederacy has just begun.
