http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Counterfeiting_Trade_Agreement This article is seriously worth reading. If you care at all about your internet, and your freedom to use it then you should be outraged. If this passes we might as well kiss our other civil liberties goodbye. ISPs would have to turn over customer information without warrants, laptops could be subject to full searches at borders, and guess what, it's not just the USA. It's related the G8 summit. Internet Neutrality: 1996 - 2008. GOODNIGHT SWEET PRINCE. |

I don't care for the internet, I don't care for my "freedom" to use it, and I hope it collapses and we revert to hand written letters and messenger pigeons. I do care passionately about violent overthrow of the G8 governments, and incineration of their government officials. Read the Unabomber Manifesto for more details. Ted Kazinski (sp?) got it right. Dear God, TC! Ted Kaczynski killed 3 people! How could you condone such outrageous actions?! After that comment you are labeled a terrorist in my book... Weapons of destruction used for good are meant to protect and deter, even if their main purpose is to use them for evil, which is to maim and kill. I'm ashamed of you! *Flags as terrorist* Edited by Eleytheria-Duo, Jul 1 2008, 10:16 PM.

Well, if this does happen then you had better believe they will enforce this to a "T". Most of you are too young to remember, but talk radio wasn't freed up until I want to say the late 80's. The government has been talking about reinstituting that ban as well. |

Well, better start removing all the songs I got from LimeWire off my iPod before I make my next vacation... There's going to be a hell of a lot of people that are going to get arrested if this gets implemented. Motherfuckers. I'm moving to Sealand. Edited by Hastine, Jul 1 2008, 11:43 PM.

K, they have been planting traps on LimeWire and other torrent sites for years now. If you've got one, you are dead meat. This may be unenforcable simply because of the pure volume. Keep your illegal stuff on a removable drive (as I do) that never leaves your house. Still need a warrant to knock down my door. Don't travel with illegal stuff. Keep a travel mp3 player with copies of songs YOU OWN. Buy encryption software NOW, preferably from 3rd world sources that are unlikely to have keys registered with a government agency. Avoid US and EU manufactured encryption software. If you do steal material when overseas, e-mail or snail-mail it home, do not carry it through customs. Because this is some G8 treaty and not legislation from congress, if it goes to the current Supreme Court, which does not recognise extra-constitutional sources as the law of the land, it will get defeated 5-4. If there is one more liberal appointed to the court then we will have a court that takes treaties and extra-constitutional sources into account, and it could get worse. Another reason to vote against Obama. Expect law enforcement to push this to the limit, and beyond, if it is passed. Never in history has law-enforcement stayed within the spirit of a law - they always push it to the extreme where it was never meant to go. RICO laws are the perfect example. Blame Motley Crue and other clueless bands and record execs that never got it, that having ears on your stuff is good, no matter how. Their penny-pinching greed stirred up this whole nonsense. Boycot those responsible. |

Doesn't work NH. The Bush administration is negotiating this treaty, not Obama and the Democrats. Same thing in Canada, the Conservative party is "negotiating" this shit. And I was considering voting for the Conservative party... If the treaty becomes true, I will have to vote Bloc Québécois again (I could never vote for the Liberal Party, a party that is traditionally hostile toward Quebec). |

Only the executive branch can negotiate treaties, i.e. Bush. Congress can only ratify. The supreme court can overturn the enforcement of the treaty. The current court would. One swing vote to the left, and it would not, thus vote for someone that will appoint strict constructionists, i.e. McCain, not Obama. |

They can put information in a music file flagging it as stolen, then plant it on a site for illegal downloads. If they find that information on a song on your computer, they know you are a pirate! |

Right, considering the average IQ of a MoC in the USA, I'm willing to bet it could get through. However, if it did come the next round of congressional elections we could see a very Republic congress. |

Doesn't make any sense for me. You're thinking with your emotions instead of thinking rationally. The traditional electorate of the Democrats is the leftists, who do not like (generally) to pay for stuff. The traditional electorate of the Republicans is the rightists, which include a lot of businessmen who prefer that people pay for their stuff. The music industry is a business, and it would make sense for them to pressure their party (the Republicans) to enforce copyright laws. Edited by Paradise, Jul 2 2008, 07:21 PM.
