Acropolis, Holy Catholic Hegemony

It was a beautifully sunny day in the capital city of Neo-Maceodnia. The South African sun shown brightly over the many buildings, big and small, that created the skyline. The Chancellery building was, as it always was, the humble of activity. After all, the Hegemony was the most devout nation in all of Africa if not the world and there was a lot of government work to keep it just that.

Johannes Whitmore was without a doubt the most busiest man in all the country. The Hegemony was of his own design and as any good architect would, he was constantly working at making the country that much closer to perfection. Like most days that were as beautiful as today, the large windows to his office were drawn open to let both God's light, and fresh breeze of the ocean in. In the distance the bells of many Cathedrals throughout the city could be heard ringing in the noon hour.

Whitmore, like most days however, failed to realize that it was time for lunch and continued on his work. It was until a knock at the door echoed through his room that his attention was detached from his work. "Come" he said without much hesitation. The door open and three men of varying ages walked in. Two of the men were dressed in suits, while the third and oldest of the group wore the vestments of a Cardinal.

As they approached the Chancellor's desk, Whitmore attention was finally drawn to them. Rising from his seat he greeted the men, addressing them all by name.

"Minister Kaczorowski, Minister Bengu, and Cardinal Tilius what a pleasant surprise. What brings you men by my office today?"

"Well Chancellor we felt you would be interested to see this" said Foreign Minister Kaczorowski as he handed the Chancellor a newspaper of foreign origin. The headlines read "Andre Ortega wins El Dejarboan Presidency" and as the Chancellor continued through the article, his face grew more disturbed.

"An you can confirm this as completely accurate?" asked the Chancellor.

"Yes sir, Chancellor it is all correct the greens have won El Dejarbo" said Minister Kaczorowski

"This is most disturbing" said the Chancellor

"We feel the same way" said Cardinal Tilius "El Dejarbo has a large base of Genesian Catholics and with this new government, their existence is threatened. I don't believe I need remind you Chancellor that without a Pope in Genesis City to bind us, the Genesis Church has been losing flock left and right. We here in South Africa have taken it upon ourselves to work to bind what little of us are left to ensure the survival of our faith. We cannot lose El Dejarbo to heretics, that is not an option."

"I am at the churches disposal Cardinal" said Whitmore. I will deal with this immediately." Turning to his Minister of State Emmanuel Bengu "They are still suffering from the terrorist attacks are they not. Perhaps it is time to show the Genesians of El Dejarbo that their Catholic brothers have no abandon them. Send word to this new government immediately and inform them that the Hegemony wish to not only make a state visit but also an assess what they need to help reconstruction efforts. Also make arrangements for me to meet with Cardinal Ximinez privately while I visit."

"As you wish Chancellor" said Minister Bengu who promptly left the office to send the communication. Whitmore then turned to the Cardinal Tilius and Minister Kaczorowski "I shall have this situation" said Whitmore "under control soon enough...."

Open Transmission

To: President Andre Ortega
From: State Minister Emmanuel Bengu

The Holy Catholic Hegemony of Neo-Macedonia would like the first congratulate you on your recently electoral victory. As a state dominated by the Genesian faith, we feel it is our duty to seek out stronger relations with nations whom harbor a population of our own faith. El Dejarbo has a strong population of Genesian catholics and the Hegemony would like to make every effort in strengthen ties between our two nations. That is while Chancellor Whitmore requests to be allowed a state visit to El Dejarbo to discuss matters of better relations as well as offer aid for your people while they recover from the previous terrorist attacks. He would also enjoy a meeting with Cardinal Ximinez, and bring him word from the South African Genesian Catholic Church.

Thank you for contacting me. El Dejarbo has much rebuilding to do in its capital city, Renu Grande, after Diablo's merciless and devastating attacks. We thank you and welcome your offer of aid. As Presidente, I would love to pursue improved relations with our nation's longstanding friends and allies. I can also arrange a meeting with Cardinal Ximinez, most assuredly.

Thank you.

Though matters of state would keep his mind constantly occupied while away, Chancellor Whitmore found it imperative to make the visit to El Dejarbo. They were after all the only Genesian Catholic nation in the Americas, and one of the last in the world. It was of the up most importance to do what the Hegemony could to keep their nation afloat and help them rebuild and prosper. Of course equally important was to help bring the faith to the forefront of everyday life, but those such plans took more subtly and time.

Though the Hegemony was fully equipped with jetliners and other more faster modes of air travel the Chancellor enjoyed his personal aircraft of the four-engined Douglas C-54 Skymaster. A relic of second world war, he believed it to be the only civilized way to travel. Though perfectly preserved on the outside, the Chancellor had the interior greatly changed to accommodate more modern features and luxuries he was accustom to.

He made good time in his fight from Acropolis to Renu Grande airport. His flight over city left no detail out of the true destruction path of the terrorist Diablo. Such uncivilized acts he though to himself. The plane touched down at the airport and swiftly came to a stop. straightening his tie and brushing off his coat the chancellor prepared for his exit from the plane. He would meet whatever greeting party awaited him outside.

The Neo-Macedonian delegation would be greeted at the Renu Grande International Airport. President Andre Ortega awaited there with his Vice-President Manuel Arguila, a plump jolly fellow whose face lightened further upon seeing Chancellor Whitmore exit the plane. Andre went over to shake the chancellor's hand as a token of his nation's friendship.

"Welcome to El Dejarbo, Chancellor," he said sincerely.

The airport grounds were covered with police and security, to ensure the safety of all parties involved. Just outside the airport, over a few hundred feet away from where the Neo-Macedonian plane had landed, were a group of protesters. They carried signs that read things like "Down With Genesis City", "Stop the Holy League from Reforming!", and "Genesian Catholicism Kills." Their chanting managed to carry over in a noisy, distant mess. Someone was blaring through a bullhorn.

"...Genesian 'faith' has killed countless millions for the so-called purpose of 'religious purity' and 'conversion.' Remember the slaughter of the Tenth Crusade and the horrors inflicted on countless citizens. Their methods are not Christian in the least. Jesus preached peace. Jesus preached..."

Ignoring the protesters, Andre smiled as he walked beside the Chancellor. "So how was your trip? I assume no complications on the way?"

"None what so ever luckily" said the Chancellor who also ignored the protesters. Though he personally had never witness such a demonstration against his faith before, he had be trained by priests who had travel the globe that those touched by Satan were abound and would try to taunt the most devout in to giving in and digressing into the uncivilized as they themselves represent.

"I must say President Ortega for a country who has suffered so much, your country is still a very beautiful place to visit. I was amazed at the wonders I saw while flying over the countryside to the capital." The two men paused momentarily while press officials who had been cleared by security came up and took pictures of the two men shaking hands and greeting one another. When they had finished Chancellor Whitmore continued.

"Of course your troubles is what has made this long overdue trip possible. With so much destruction caused by the terrorist the Hegemony could no longer sit by and let other issues detain us from cementing more permanent relations between us. It is my hope through this trip, that I may see for myself the horrors inflicted, sit down with you and your administration and hammer out what aid we can furnish your people, and if permitted, address the church and it's congregations and let them know that we have not overlooked them."

"Thank you for the kind words toward my country," Andre Ortega said with a widening smile, leading the Chancellor toward the waiting limousine, the Vice-President already climbing inside. "Truth of the matter is, without your country's help, it would take El Dejarbo longer to rebuild Renu Grande than the years it took after Diablo's first attack. Back then, President Antonio Santiago was able to join the Holy League and rely on the financial aid from each nation so allied. As it stands today after the second assault, we were not so fortunate. But now Neo-Macedonia comes to help us. I offer my nation's thanks.

"Renu Grande is running into dept in the reconstruction efforts, and much of the nation's GDP is covering that debt." He allowed the Chancellor to climb into the car before he climbed in himself. Soon the limousine was out of the airport, past the protesters, and down the road.

Shortly after, they would arrive at the President's Estate. They were ushered in quickly, and Andre led the way to his office. He told the Chancellor to make himself comfortable while his aides gathered together the necessary paperwork. For the following hours, Chancellor Whitmore and President Ortega hammered out the plans and details of how Neo-Macedonia would help El Dejarbo with the reconstruction of its capital city.

Chancellor Whitmore was pleased with the progress they made together. With the Catholic Hegemony's help, El Dejarbo would cut costs, and time in reconstruction as well as rejuvenate exports sells and bring a long await surge in income to the general population. The projection was that El Dejarbo would be a booming country in less than a 3 years time.

After completing their preliminary discussing the two men broke for lunch and enjoy some of the finer foods of the country. When the two finished the Chancellor was informed that his meeting with Cardinal Ximinez had been arranged and that he would be taken to see the Cardinal at once. After the meeting he'd be brought back to sit with the President and his Cabinet for a final meeting before being allowed to leave once more and attend a night mass.

"Thank you again for the meal President Ortega it was most delicious. I look forward to our final meeting this afternoon with your cabinet to finalize what we've discussed so far."

The two men shook hands and then the Chancellor was lead out to a private car that would take him on to the waiting Cardinal.

The car brought the Chancellor to the splendorous Renu Grande Catholic Cathedral. Repairs were being made along its east side, but thankfully its wasn't as damaged as many of the buildings downtown were. Diablo's forces had barely touched this corner of the city during his second attack.

Chancellor Whitmore was greeted at the front doors by a contingent of a few priests and nuns. Promptly, he was led to Cardinal Ximinez's private offices.

The Cardinal, dressed in his formal red robes, was seated comfortably behind his desk. Also in the room were two other Cardinals which immediate introductions named as Cardinal Biggles and Cardinal Fang. The Chancellor was granted the only other most comfortable chair in the room. Moments later, a nun would bring in food and coffee.

"I thank you for coming in dire times, Chancellor," Cardinal Ximinez said with a small sigh. "We are losing these people," he gestured back toward a window that gave a view of the city, "losing them to sin and apathy. No doubt you are aware of my displeasure with the new Andre Ortega administration. His liberal and environmental policies are destroying everything that this nation was founded on. He claims to be a faithful Genesian Catholic, but he doesn't act it."

The Cardinal leaned forward, steepling his fingers. "As his policies have been growing, more and more citizens have been branching out to various Satanic religions. I've heard word that the percentage of Colognians is growing, and filthy Protestant scum as well. There's Muslims and Hindus and Voudoun practitioners and various paganistic 'New Age' faiths that state there is nothing wrong with... homosexuality. It's disgusting. Following in the wake of he who would name himself after the Devil, our country is rapidly collapsing into the New Babylon.

"Never before in the history of El Dejarbo has its Catholic Church needed the aid of its fellows more than ever now...."

That Chancellor gave a nod of agreement to the Cardinal as he spoke of the owes of the country.

"I have seen for myself the evil that lies here in the country. Why even as I arrive I saw the agents of Satan rise and stand in defiance of the lord. It is truly heartbreaking to see such a sight in this country. I can only ask for the churches forgiveness for myself and my country's neglect of your troubles and sufferings your eminence has enduring as evil begins to spread."

The Chancellor paused.

"However, the lord has guided me here now and I shall right the wrongs that I have done against you and against the faithful of this country. God has entrusted with me the tools to help this church survive and once against stand strong against Satan and his agents of darkness."

Chancellor Whitmore and Cardinal Ximinez conversation went on with the Chancellor going into more greater detail as to what he meant previously. As the conversation got deeper and deeper, he and his fellow Cardinals slowly began to smile and the Chancellor could only take this as a sign of agreement and their personal blessing. The conversation and the visit as a whole lasted for over an hour. When the two had finished talking, the Chancellor was given a personal tour of the Cathedral by Cardinal Ximinez and his fellow Cardinals. He was introduce to several of the priests and nuns that served the church faithful, some for many years going now.

When the hour had finally come, the Chancellor again thanked the Cardinal for the visit. His car had once again arrive to take him back to the President for a meeting with the Cabinet. "I shall do everything in my power" said Whitmore " to keep this meeting brief as I hope to make it back in time to have a front row seat for mass tonight. I greatly look forward to your service tonight Cardinal Ximinez"

With that Chancellor Whitmore was lead back to the entrance and into his car, to be taken back to the President and the Cabinet.

Chancellor Whitmore was greeted with open arms at the El Dejarboan Capitol. Nevertheless, waiting for him again, just outside the campus fence was a group of protesters. It seemed that everyone had anticipated his arrival here.

The bullhorning from one of the protesters echoed across the field. "...their Church's atrocities exceed that and dwarf those of the Middle Eastern hellhole Scythirus. The country that serves as the center of their religion regularly condoned burnings at the stake as a method of punishment...."

It may have very well been the same protesters from the airport.

Fortunately for Whitmore, there was plenty of security to ensure the protesters didn't go beyond legal limits. The pleased capitol staff ushered the Chancellor into the building and to a conference room with the cabinet members of Andre Ortega's administration.

Andre was the first to shake his hand. "I trust that your discussion with Cardinal Ximinez was satisfactory?" he asked.

"It was," replied the Chancellor with a dark smile.

After a chain of handshakes, business concerning the financial aid from Neo-Macedonia was to be further discussed. President Ortega explained that he ran it by his cabinet, each consenting their approval. The documents were to be sent to Congress to be voted on. Everything seemed to be in order.

"Your help will save me a lot of headaches," commented the Treasurer.

"The Hegemony is all to eager to help with the woes of this country" said the Chancellor to the Treasurer as he took the seat provided to him and the President brought the meeting to order. The meeting was very fruitful as members of the Cabinet, to have themselves reassured, drilled the Chancellor with questions of what aid would be provided, how it would be manifested, and how long it would take to get into the people's pockets.

The Chancellor assured them that the aid could be manifested quickly as the Hegemony found itself in a unique position. It had hit a new age of industrial revolution as factories to produce some of the most common house hold items were now springing up and catering to larger more industrialized and advance countries that now outsourced their needs for these items as it was cheaper than maintaining a production line within their own country.

It was bringing the Hegemony a renewed amount of wealth, something that they had been lacking for sometime since the fall of Genesis City. Some questioned the Chancellor as to how they sold these items given the world's poor eye on Genesian Catholicism and the nations that still practice it. The Chancellor assured them that the items were sold through a medium, that way the larger nations never knew (unless through serious research on their own part) where the items were coming from.

With all the wealth they now were at the unique juncture where they could spread it and renew the Genesian world. The conference continued on for several more hours as the decision was hammered out until everything had a clear explanation and all sides were utterly pleased with the results of all the efforts. Looking at his pocket watch the Chancellor realized it was time for mass soon. The Chancellor rose from his seat and address the other members, including the President.

"Gentlemen I must thank you again for your hospitality and for allowing me to help your nation in these dark times. The Genesian church is at an climax I believe and soon it will begin again, renewed and ready to take on the world. I will see to it that your people are fed, clothed, and sheltered and free again to worship God in the Genesian church without fear of evil."

President Ortega rose as did his Cabinet and they applauded the Chancellor on the work that had been accomplished. He then thanked him on behalf of his people for the aid and the reconstruction that the Hegemony would help to afford them.

"Think nothing of it President Ortega but please do not think me rude but the hour of Mass is approaching and I would enjoy getting a close seat before it begins."

"But of course" said the President as he moved around the table to show the Chancellor out the room.

"Oh my before I forget" said the Chancellor as he reached into his briefcase. "It is a gift, handcrafted from the finest craftsmen of my country. A token of our countries renewed an eternal friendship.

He placed the gift into Ortega's hands. It was a small cube large enough that it took the President both hands to hold. It was completely made out of what appeared to be solid gold. On the four side of the cube were Genesian Catholic symbols, all engraved with a black back to help the gold images stand out. On the top were two hands joined together in a handshake with the Holy Cross behind it, again with a black back to help the gold stand out.

"Think of it as the fish brick to be laid in the house of unity our two people will build together" said the Chancellor. Ortega thanks the Chancellor for the gift, placing it near the center of the meeting table before turning to see the Chancellor off. When asked if he'd be going him at mass, President Ortega told Chancellor Whitmore that he and his cabinet and a few more matters to discuss before he could leave for the night.

The Chancellor simply smile and got into his car.

The car returned to the cathedral, and already people were heading into the building for Mass. Chancellor Whitmore was greeted once more by a group of priests and nuns before being led into the building. Stopping at a bowl of holy water, the Chancellor dipped his fingers in, crossed himself, then followed his guides into the nave, stopped again to genuflect before the Blessed Sacrament, then moved on. At the front of the aisles waited a seat that was reserved for him alone.

Once the entire congregation of parishioners were within the aisles of the nave, Cardinal Ximinez came in with the Gospel Book, a procession following in his trail. It was a truly rare event that the Cardinal led Mass, but with the Chancellor of Neo-Macedonia here, it was a truly special occasion. As a hymn filled the chamber in song, the Cardinal led the way to the altar, and the altar servers quickly carried about their business of lighting candles. The Cardinal promptly led a large Sign of the Cross, practiced parishioners joining him in unison before carrying Mass into the various prayer rites.

During the opening rite, Cardinal Ximinez shot Chancellor Whitmore a conspiratorial smile unnoticed by anyone else. The true hour of judgment was at hand, and the wicked would be smoten to ash by the wrath of God. The mere thought of it filled both the Cardinal and Chancellor with comfort....

"An you sure it will work Father Rivero" said the Chancellor

"Yes, yes it will work. I have tested it myself several times on live test subjects and the results are the same, time and time again. The Pathogen it it's gas form is both odorless and colorless. It shall enter the body undetected and begin to feed on the hosts internal tissue at a rapid pass. It will literally act like acid, eating away rapidly at the host from the inside out. However, it has a life of only 15 minutes as the oxygen it is exposed to in the area will begin to break it down until it is harmless again."

"I see said the Chancellor, how then will I activate it?"

"The box was designed by my specifications to have a weight senor in it's bottom. A microprocessor will determine when the box has been placed on a flat surface and will then begin a countdown of 30 minutes. After that the pathogen is released. A second timer will then be activated, set for 20 mines, giving a 10 mins window after the pathogen has dissipated and will then activate the small explosive inside. Nothing will be left of the box and the explosive will do enough damage to kill anyone who may survive the first attack though that his highly unlikely, still the explosive will ensure the mess has been cleaned up."

"You have gone above and beyond the call of duty" said the Chancellor

"I only do what God wills me Chancellor" said Rivero. "God believes that the wicked must be punished and so they shall."

The wicked shall be punished thought Chancellor Whitmore as he sat in the Cathedral while mass went on. It was a beautiful service he thought, though whether that was because of what the Cardinal was doing or because what he knew was soon to be happening will never be determined. He checked his pocket watch, only a few more minutes...

----------------------------

President Ortega rejoined the rest of his cabinet in their meeting room. Taking his seat he called for the rest of the agenda to be brought before him. He made a comment about how he hoped to get home in time for super this night as opposed to other nights when the meetings dragged on long into the midnight hour.

The Cabinet went forward, discussing the economic boom the aid from the Hegemony would provide them, as well as other matters of state that they needed to address. Projections of when reconstruction efforts in one part of the city would end, when new efforts were scheduled to begin. All the matters of which Ortega had come accustom to with all the need to rebuild after the Diablo attacks.

"An if you'll look at graph five" said the Treasurer as they were looking at an annual economy report. "You'll see that...." His speech was stopped as he began to cough. It was light at first as if he had simply gotten choked on his own saliva while talking. Waving off the attention brought to him, he simply reached for a glass of water and began to drink it, hoping it would ease his throat.

Believing he'd be alright, the President turned to his lead in the transportation department. "So how is that.....Oh my god!"

Ortega was taken back as he looked into the face of the Transportation head to find that he was crying, crying tears of blood. By this time the treasurer was coughing more violently now and blood was now coming up. Slowly at first but it soon began to pour out with each more violent cough.

Another member of the Cabinet now began to cough, while another felt to the floor in agony as he suffer intense abdominal pains. Now even Ortega himself was coughing. Desperately trying to stop, he try drowning himself in water only to spit it out in more violent coughs. The whole room was now filled with men hutched over themselves in pain and coughing without end.

Ortega himself began to itch all over his body. In insane sensation could not be cool no matter how hard he tried to scratch it. Soon others were as well, deeper and deeper they scratched until they began to rip the very flesh from their bones. The Treasurer was the first to die and he eventually drowned in his own blood. One man went as far as to begin to carve himself just to quell the itch until the loss of blood killed him as well.

One by one, either by drowning or simply due to the blood they lost the members of Ortega's Cabinet died all around him until only he was left carving into his own skin. A brief instance of sanity wash over him as he began to crawl across the floor in utter pain to the doorway where an intercom panel was located. Baring through the pain he managed to lift himself up and put his bloody finger on the intercom.

"We need......"
----------------------------------------------

The explosion was heard from miles around as it ripped through the government building, tearing through surrounding offices in a nice uniform circle around the cabinet meeting room. The outer most offices of the building where spared through every window was shattered and fire was now spreading.

Though it was not felt it could be faintly heard within the Cathedral. Few paid it any mind however since at that exact moment the choir had begun to sing and drowned out the full effect of the outside noise. Still Cardinal Ximinez and Chancellor Whitmore's keen perception picked it up as both of their attentions centered on the other. A brief smile was shared between the two men.

General Apolinar Ruiz eyed the smoldering remains of the conference room with a hint of tragic hurt in his expression. The El Dejarboan government had been decapitated with the deaths of every man that was in here. This meant that it was mandated that he do what was required of him as the General of the Army.

He didn't like the scope of it, but he had to do what he must.

One of the capitol's security returned to his side after checking the surveillance footage. The General turned to face him with a grim look.

"Well, what were you able to discover?" General Ruiz asked.

"Not much, sir," replied the security officer. "All it showed was the President and his cabinet getting sick and dying, and then an explosion erupting from the conference table. There were no clues to tell us who or what could have been behind it."

General Ruiz nodded. "Then we must fall back on the only possible suspect for this assassination, the dreaded Diablo. We shall not rest until that criminal terrorist is finally brought to justice. As it stands... Martial Law has been declared after this call of emergency. I will lead our nation until he is finally caught and executed."

The security officer nodded sadly. All knew what this meant... an interim dictatorship that would suspend all civil liberties until the immediate crisis was solved. Many citizens would not like it, but the death of the president and his entire cabinet was enough cause to proceed with this action.

The announcement would be broadcasted across the nation shortly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Following Mass, the cathedral's confessionals were opened. Chancellor Whitmore, having committed a great sin indeed, climbed into one of the booths. It didn't take long for a priest to climb into the other compartment.
"Tell me your sins, child," a familiar voice said. It was Cardinal Ximinez.
"For give me father for I have sinned" said Whitmore "It has been almost a day now since my last confession. As a leader of a nation and a person who is devoted to the church I find it healthy and only right that I visit the confessional at least once a day, sometimes more."
It was true, Whitmore regularly visited the confessional of the St. Emmanuel Cathedral in Acropolis and most of the time his confessions were so small, so innocent that they hardly warranted the time he took out of his busy life. Yet still like the fateful sheep he was, he flocked to the confessional and confess his small sins to the lord. However, tonight his confession was no small one and he had every right to come.
"I come tonight to confess my transgression against God. I heard the bible daily, I have no read it perhaps 30 times or more. Again and again I find something new, some new passage I don't remember from the last time I read it. I go to mass regularly, I even made it a crime to miss mass without a church approved excuse. I have done everything the church has asked of me and more, yet I fear I may have over stepped my boundaries."
"I killed president Ortega tonight along with the rest of his cabinet. I unleashed upon them a virus they ate at their flesh from the inside out and not only that but I then detonated a bomb to clean up the mess. I did this in the name of Catholicism, I did this for God's children. I do not confess because I feel sorry for Ortega or those who follow him. No, he was a heretic, perhaps the worst kind. He falsely declared himself a Catholic yet if he were truly a Catholic he would have been by my side this night in church. No, Ortega was a heretic and deserved his fate yet what troubles me is that it was by my hand that he should die."
"Have I played God? Have I sinned against the holy father by taking his position, by placing judgment on the wicked and punishing them for their sins? I ask myself this constantly with each heretic that is sent to the stake. Am I doing what God wants, what God requires of me. Or am I, in ignorance, doing what I think God wants and in doing so, playing God myself. A sin for which I fear I could never be cleansed for there is but one God, of this I know."
Cardinal Ximinez replied from the other side of the confessional screen. "Indeed God charges us with the Commandment, 'Thou shalt not kill,' " he said; "however, God also charges us to punish the blasphemers and the unbelievers. Ortega and his cabinet of 'environmentalist' liberals were blasphemers of the worst sort. You accomplished what was required of you as one of the faithful. Your sins are forgiven, child. Nevertheless, to keep guilt from gnawing at your mind, I shall have you recite fifty Hail Marys after you leave this confessional.
"You are dismissed, child. May God bless you."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The announcement of General Apolinar Ruiz's interim dictatorship spread across the nation of El Dejarbo. Many protests rose up in defiance of this suspension of the nation's constitution, but were quickly quelled by local and national authorities alike. Freedom of speech was limited, and protesters refusing to cooperate detained. A new age had risen within the Latin Republic.

The General now had the full authority to make or change laws as he saw fit. Being a faithful Genesian Catholic, Cardinal Ximinez would constantly have his ear and help guide some of the tougher decisions. General Ruiz, without the suspended House of Congress, immediately approved the measure of financial aid from Neo-Macedonia. The old ties from the Holy League were truly strengthening again.

The new Dictator would never suspect the actual circumstances that led to his rise of power, fully convinced that Diablo had been behind the assassination of President Ortega and his cabinet.

Whitmore was given the honor of briefly meeting the new Leader of El Dejarbo before leaving on his plane. He remarked his sadness for the brutal and violent manner for which the former president was killed. Hoping not the damper the mood, he then remarked on the great confidence he had in the General and how he hoped to soon establish strong communications lines between the General and himself. He also spoke on how he hoped, once the nation was more secure, to establish a permanent embassy in El Dejarbo and offer the General the option of establishing one in the Hegemony when the time came. The two leaders then shook hands and the Chancellor boarder his plane.

No protesters this time, a sign of the times and the stronger control the General had over his people. Catholicism would once again reign supreme in El Dejarbo the Chancellor thought to himself as he took his seat. Within minutes the Chancellor's plane was in the air, on it's way back to his beloved Catholic nation.
