The Nagian stood in silence - pondering. Goreprime harnessed unconventional technologies. A mysterious crater, a hidden military base they were willing to kill over... all these things just raised questions while providing no answers. He knew Nag Ehgoeg's presence here was... unwanted by some and was increasingly forming the opinion that he shouldn't be here at all. "We should report our findings and press on. Inland. That's where we will find our answers." |

"Right then..." Ivan Prigovosk agreed. "We'll allow Dr. Erkko his rest again." He peered at his watch. "I suggest also that we all get our rest. The following... 'day,' I want every bit of evidence documented, and all the files from the lab gathered. This will likely take us the week. Following that week, we'll organize teams to go out and uncover what the Americans are conducting in the southwestern Antarctic desert." Everyone was promptly dismissed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The days wore on. Arthur Greywolf insisted on checking out the frozen Lake Vostok for any evidence of his submarine hypothesis. There was nothing there. No broken ice, no reports of anomalous shapes from the sonar equipment, nothing. The hypothesis had no substance. The far more interesting radioactive ice crater on the land was gathering much more attention. The scientists found their hazbot and were having fun taking turns steering the thing along the charred ground gathering soil samples for later analysis. It was clear to all that this oddity would be an important clue in solving what the Americans were conducting in Antarctica. Little did they all know that they were being watched.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nakagura Kadu was dressed fully bundled up for the Antarctic cold and laid back on the station's roof, staring at the perpetual night sky and aurora australis when Shiki and Sugichi found him. They climbed up on top of the roof beside him and followed his gaze. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Shiki asked. "That's not what I'm watching," Kadu stated flatly. "What? What are you watching?" Sugichi inquired of him. "That..." Kadu said, pointing up with his mitten-covered hand. "I've been watching it for the last couple days now." Both Shiki and Sugichi strained their eyes to see what Kadu was pointing out. Both soon saw the small pinpoint of light that danced in the sky among the stars. It moved rapidly, taking various sharp right-angle turns and pulling off other feats that no known aircraft could perform. "I think it's been watching us too," he added. Kadu's companions merely stared at it in shock. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Finally the last day of the week arrived, and teams were being discussed and formulated. Sugichi brought forward Kadu's discovery to the entire investigation, but it was largely dismissed. "Possibly a mistaken feature of the aurora australis," Samantha had said. The Kiru Taoese weren't too sure. Ivan spoke over everyone. "All right... let's get back to the task at hand. Me and Vera want three teams. We need you to volunteer and organize into those teams. One will circle and patrol Vostok, while the two others will go toward the southwest to seek out the American base camp." |

Over the week... Atius and Horatius spent their time with the hazbot and the mysterious crator. Obliging their duties to the group in other matters as little as possible: something the other nationals resented, but only quietly - having no desire to interact with the Nagians more than necessary. Artorius eagerly awaited the return of the Russians and the survivors of the missing team. Modius, while hardly sociable, interacted with the other's on the base the most - helping to pack up the research among other things. Most interesting to him was Professor Greywolf and his strange theories. He rarely spoke to the man, but couldn't help but think there was some credance behind them. The one real conversation he had with the man was on Lake Vostok. Modius arrived early to set up some equipment for a demonstration on how a weighted wire will cut through a block of ice, with the ice refreezing behind it leaving no trace of it's passing. With Antarctic temperatures being what they were, the idea of a submarine passing through the frozen waters leaving little trace of it ever being there was more than plausible. **** "We shall all press on inland." Atius replied to Ivan for the Nagians. "Modius and I shall go with one team, Horatius and Artorius with the other. It's no secret that our people are on... relatively good terms with the Americans. While we can in no way vouch for your safety, it certainly could not hurt to have us around if we encounter them." Had the Nagian's been part of the Nagian Intelligence Agency, Kadu's discovery would have had them worried and watching the skys. But they were not, and thus had little reason to give any attention to this UFO sighting. The default scientific possition was skepticism and they did not know any better... over the week... The Russians which had recovered the missing teams finally returned to the station, after a momentary loss of direction was corrected when the Russians got the station back on the radio to pin-point where they were and where the station was. The survivors of the team had said nothing to them so far, even though the Russians tried to get them to talk. Even their own comrade said little to nothing to them the whole way back. They reported back to Vera, their superior when they returned who then filled them in on the week's schedule. The Russian soldiers then went to work cataloging the research of the station to be sent back home. As for the surviving team, they were taken to private rooms, to rest in the hopes that a good amount of rest would get them talking. ................................................ Vera talked it over with Ivan, that having the Nagians with them would perhaps prove more worth wild than she had previously believed. If the United States government were operating a secretly military installation in the region, they certainly would risk their friendship with the Nagians to keep it covered up. What interested Vera more however was the strange lights that the Kiru Taoese had seen during the week. Though she wasn't convinced it was anytime of UFO, she wondered if it was some sort of mapping device. Like a target laser on a gun, she wondered if the Americans were developing some sort of galactic mapping device. It seemed plausible to her given that it got so dark here, making it perfect for star gazing. Still, she decided to keep her hypothesis to herself while she helped to get teams organized. |

Ivan agreed about Vera's assessment of the Nagians. Nag Ehgoeg was on very good terms with the United States, and thus their influence could prove useful. Thus they were approved for the two scouting teams. Attention was directed toward the Kiru Taoese then. "I'll go ahead," Sugichi offered. "My nation is very curious as to what the Americans could be doing here." He glanced to his fellow investigators from Kiru Tao. "I'll stay behind to participate in the patrol," Shiki said. Kadu quickly stated that he would as well. "Someone needs to be part of that third team, after all," Kadu added. |

Greywolf looked over, shaking his head to the Kiru Taoese. "I simply do not trust Americans. You have seen what they have done to my people in the past. I can only imagine what terrible things that they will have in store for us in the future." |

OOC: I'm bumping this because I want to cntinue it. The story is nicely self-contained, so it won't really effect anything that's gone on. |
