"The Sinister Minister" by Béla Fleck & The Flecktones

I love Béla Fleck & The Flecktones but what the heck is that crazy instrument that one guys plays in the music video

Edit: This is the instrument in question:

At least I think that the one, My friend's roommate had a DVD on Béla Fleck & The Flecktones and in it, among many of the interesting things they had was that guy playing what looked like a bunch of children's toys all somehow bound together erratically. It was the weirdest thing and none of us could quiet figure out what it was. I assume it's some sort of synthesizer but beyond that I have no clue as it it's name and I'd really like to know.
