Cultural Wilderness: Navigating Porcuian Language, Society, and People
By: Clytia Constantina Domaninus
215 pages
Cost: ₤17.00, $33.00

- In a lively, well researched, and easy to read book, Ms. Domaninus seeks to lay the groundwork for a structured analysis of Porcuian culture and bring to light its many nuances and complexities. It has been well documented over the years how even young and seasoned diplomats alike have become easily lost in the labyrinth of Porcuian culture and a common joke in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that nations could delegate an idiot or a genius to an embassy in Porcu and no one would be able to tell the difference.

"Those who have tried to study Porcu", says the author in a recent interview, "inevitably come across the obstacle that is Porcuian culture. Whether it means understanding which language to use in certain social settings or the act of bowing and other respectful gestures, the goal of this book is to enlighten the reader and clear the fog that surrounds what is truthfully an incredibly complex society."

Cultural Wilderness: Navigating Porcuian Language, Society, and People draws from recent anthropological research and details, for example, the frequency of use of certain languages and in what types of social situation each are used. Depending on the subject and one's conversation partner(s), the language itself and the subtleties of the means of address and communication may change a number of different times. And that says nothing about what gestures are appropriate, one's physical stance towards another, and what other conduct is expected of you!

Many Porcuians have apparently come to expect little from foreigners, whether they be Heads of State, university students, or tourists, but Ms. Domaninus says there is no reason to despair: the rich cultural history of the Republic of Porcu can be accessed and understood. Novices and beginners to Latin and Porcu will benefit just as much as diplomats, academic professionals, or longtime studiers of this small, but impressive Scandinavian country.

OOC: Thought I'd try my hand at this. :shy:

Esternarxian Socialism in Theory and Practice
By: Claire Freedhelm
523 pages
Cost: 7 grams Ag for paperback, 10 grams Ag for Hardcover, 25 grams Ag for Hardcover signed by author
(Free Download Available Online)

Reviews:

"In a thorough exposition of the underlying structure of Esternarxian society, Sovereign Freedhelm details how the radical and consistent application of competitive and cooperative entrepreneurial counter-economics has brought Esternarx closer to achieving the socialist ideal of the workers owning the means of production than any other society in history." ~ Zaira Dynia

"Over 500 pages of pure intellectual nonsense. Miss Freedhelm distorts language and plays semantic games in a pathetic attempt to mis-characterize the anarcho-capitalist dystopia she has played a hand in creating as some sort of socialist utopia. She should stick to pornographic acting, where this sort of smut belongs." ~ Choam Nomsky

"Equality is the socialist call-to-arms, but Claire's advocacy of universal equality of authority may be distressing to some self-described socialists, as it undermines the concept of the redistributive welfare state and seems to leave the poor and hungry to die in their bubbles of self-sovereignty. But this book is more than just theory, and the author does an excellent job of citing real-world examples of how free actors have provided a social safety net, through charity, fraternal organizations, mutual aid, and interest-free micro-loans." ~ Uncia Quillory

The Destiny of Slaves: The Republic, Her Return to Empire, and its Global Consequences
By: Lucius Expianus Quolla
512 pages
Cost: 9 grams Ag paperback; ₤22,00 online [money invested by author in Au]

- From the stunning beauty of the burgeoning Porcuian community in the anarchist territory of Eldorado Atlantica in East Anarx Mr. Quolla, with the help of an independent publishing house in the Free State of Luxembourg, has put forth a damning account of recent, and not so recent, Porcuian actions, directives, and objectives. A former history professor, Mr. Quolla dissects, outlines, and analyzes over six decades of Porcuian foreign policy with the precision of a neurosurgeon, and lays bare the calculated and systematic betrayal of the Republic's founding principles and the trust of her citizens. Although no longer a Porcuian citizen, Mr. Quolla has expressed that part of his motivation in writing the book was very much to awaken his "cultural comrades" and the rest of the world.

"The Republic I remember as a child, that which my mother described to me, does not exist anymore...Each successive year serves to erode the liberty from within, but also from without. A stunning transformation has taken place - the metamorphosis of a butterfly back to a caterpillar!" (from the Introduction)

It must be said that the density of the material covered does press the reader occasionally, but one will hardly mind due to the profound interest it elicits. The book provides a wonderful overview of Porcu's growth and global exploration during the age of colonialism before skipping many centuries to the close of the Dominion Wars and the independence movements that rocked the Republic's overseas territories. From there, Mr. Quolla guides the reader patiently through conservative, liberal, and socialist presidents and parliaments, highlighting all relevant and critical decisions and moments and then spelling out their consequences, until we get to the present day situation.

"Today we find the Republic reconsolidating "lost" territory, people, and capital. We find her unilaterally voiding declarations of independents and the constitutions of independent, internationally recognized states. We find her carving out spheres of influences around the globe, the result of which will further divide and isolate the citizens of this magnificent Earth, and which inherently place them in bondage - as the property of Stockholm...War, economic exploitation, intellectual and spiritual retardation, and enslavement are just the beginning of what will become universal within the boundaries of the country I used to love."

Mr. Quolla's prognosis is grim, at least for those who truly care about the principles of liberty, equality, self-determination, and freedom. Nonetheless, there is hope and Mr. Quolla believes that an honest and intellectually rigorous examination of the truth is the best start.

Our Path to Progress
By: Valiko Kozintsev
Adjara National Publishing Company
ლ20.00

Considered one of the most popular books to come out of Transcaucasia in several decades, Our Path to Progress is a gripping manifesto from famed Communist Party leader Valiko Kozintsev. Great-grandson to infamous Russian Nationalist and former Russian Prime Minister Nicholas Kozintsev, one of the architects of the Georgian War, and grandson to Georgian Communist Party founder Viktor Kozintsev, Valiko is an interesting case of fascism and Communism. Speaking upon only briefly within the first chapter of the book, he writes: "I find that my family is a bit of an enigma in many respects. My great-grandfather was a Russian nationalist, one whom many historians now paint as fascists. This many indeed be true as I never knew the man myself and can only go on what my father and grandfather have told me. They were Communist, my grandfather having turned to it in many was as an escape from his father as much as a true path forward for all people."

Like many communist literature available, Our Path to Progress reads as much like Marx's own Communist Manifesto as it does an original work. Kozintsev writes thoroughly on the class struggles of the Transcaucasus, going into great detail the proletarian struggle that has plagued the country since the Georgian War. A pacifist, Kozintsev remarks that he hoped the Communist revolution would have come after the recent elections in Transcaucasia. However, he criticizes the elections and paints a shadow of doubt over the validity of how free the elections really were. In conclusion to the communist transformation, Kozintsev instead promotes peaceful demonstrations by the masses in order to bring about the social change that will in turn force a political one. While most of this books reads about the same as any other Communist volume that one can pick up at their neighborhood bookstore, there is one chapter of particular note to which this review was written. Startlingly, Kozintsev devotes an entire chapter of his book to religion and though going into it one would think he would be making the "opiate of the masses" argument, surprisingly this is not the case.

"Communists since the time of Lenin have gotten it all wrong" Kozintsev writes, "in that they have taken what Karl Marx wrote and have twisted to mean that all religion is the opiate of the masses and that therefore to free man, one must free him from religion. However, I refute this interpretation of Marx's work and instead argue that while Marx indeed intend to call for a revolution against religion, he did not mean for its destruction entirely. He wrote that man created religion and in essence did so to understand himself. Yet, religion become something else and in time, created an illusion that disillusioned man from himself. It is this idol worship with which Marx called for man to shuck off like chains so that man could reach his full potential. Therefore it is in the interest of man's potential that man must disregard the religion of idols and instead embrace the philosophic religion of man. Not the religion of one man, but of all men, of the human race and its infinite possibilities." Kozintsev's vision is a religion center around man himself, in essence making man the master that he is. "This doctrine must call upon the formation of a universal brotherhood of all humanity, with no distinctions of race, creed, sex, caste, or color. It must encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy, and science. It must investigate the unexplained laws of nature and the powers latent in man himself. Overall, the guiding force that must drive this new thought its not blindness faith but instead that desire for the once force in the universe that is already a desire of man, the truth."

OOC: RD started a long time ago, its basically a collection of our world's "best sellers" so to speak. Its a fun little side project that people have added to at various times. I think its most fun when someone write a book and then another person add a "review" of that book and that author's findings.
