OCC:should be not put in interregional and sticked?

Nag Edit

Nope. Stickies are for important threads. Active threads like this will stay near the top anyway. And the books here are Middle Eastern themed.

The Valentine Legacy
How Chancellery Politics Strangled Serpentine and Created a Modern Day Monarchy in Africa

By Abdul Sammad, Retired Premier of the Ulganian-Sahndaqi Goverment

A wonderfully insightful source that delves into the political experiments in Serpentine. In this book there are discussions that weigh the consequences of the Valentine legacy, and how its deep roots have ripped the heart out of democracy.

– H.D. Thatcher, PhD, professor of Political Science at Serpentine University.

A treasonous betrayal, and a mockery of academia. This book illustrates the ravings of a lunatic who has been brainwashed by schools of idealism that have never been practical in Ulganian culture. It ignores the strong grassroots democratic movements, the strength of the Quorum, and the existence of the Senate altogether. Never before have I read such a travesty of a book! Even the propagandists of the Dominion had more logical arguments! I challenge anyone with a critical eye to read this, and in turn realize how flawed these arguments are. Ulgania is a much more diverse nation that Sammad claims. It is up to Ulganians to realize this.

– Janice Malkove, Representative to the Chancellery in the Sahndaqi Autonomous Regions.

A Cold Wind Blows The Saxe-Coburgian War and the Fall of the Economic System 2nd Edition
by Dr. Albertino Milano, Professor of International Economics, University of Rome
United Catholic Press
609 pages, paperback
$12.00

Second Edition now in Paperback
This is the Second Edition of "A Cold Wind Blows", by Albertino Milano, one of the premier scholars of Catholic Europe during the Holy League era. This at once celebrated and reviled work takes a surprisingly objective view of the War of Saxe-Coburgian Succession, the war that in large part destroyed the status-quo for the entire world. Dr. Milano examines in great detail the Prussian asset-seizing campaign that ultimately led to the implosion of the world economy at that time. Dr. Milano thoroughly details the scheme and how it was implemented, causing the terrific demise of the global market in its contemporary incarnation. He also examines the economic-ripple effect that caused the stock markets of Prussia, Egyria, Catholic Europe, Saxe-Coburg, NeoRome, Laeplaen, and the United States to crash without warning. Dr. Milano also spends two chapters analyzing the aftermath of the collapse, including the fall of the Holy League and the emergence of a new status-quo, unhindered by global alliances. In a thoughtful afterword, Dr. Milano concludes that tampering with the world market as an act of war is tantamount to launching an attack against the civilian population of the world, and warns that the responsible government, regardless of its ideology, must avoid this strategy at any cost.

New Revelations
by Praenomen (Assumed Name)
Confraternity of Tradesmen Press (CTP)
487 Pages, Paperback
4.80 nominally, though the publisher has distributed free copies at apparently great cost

While technically existing as the aforementioned Confraternity of Tradesmen Press, this neo-religious text was largely self-published. Consisting of the alleged revelations of a new form of deity, which were created through man’s interaction with his environment, New Revelations lays down the doctrine and creed for a philosophical belief system. Praenomen, whom mentions that he must act under the auspices of an assumed name and not permit anyone to, as of yet, see his face, states that he has spoken with the new pantheon after they came to him in a dream. According to the author, these otherworldly beings distance themselves from the theistic creatures of other faiths in that they are wholly modern. Instead of having been revealed in ancient times, this group was born from the combination of technology and nature that now populates this earth. Together they form the Corax – the console that rules over the universe as they have ascended like monarchs in this, Man’s Greatest Epoch. The Corax is made up of five gods, each of which lords over one of the religion’s five virtues. Sayl, a dolphin, rules peace. Awina, a lemur, rules wisdom. Kelmos, a shark, rules offense. Itage, a coyote, is lord over resistance. Finally Zeaughden, a cougar, rules defense. However, there is also an element of conflict, as many individuals in today’s world as shown as either harmful to the Earth or to fellow man. Therefore, the book also stresses both charity and medical work and the wholly sacramental bearing of arms.

Georgian Revival?
Dr. Farshid Khorsandi
Southern Tbilisi Publishing Group
530 pages
20.00 Lari

This is the first well publicized work by Dr. Farshid Khorsandi, an accomplished and awarding winning scholar and professor of Georgian history at Shota Rustaveli State University in Batumi, Southern Georgia. His work, Georgian Revival? takes an interesting look at the current political, social, and ecomomic situation of the Georgian region. He throroughly explores the Georgian war, highlighting each sides major campaigns as well as discussing each sides desires for the war through an exploration of recently declassified material from the Russians, their allies, the Nagians, and the Scythirian governments. Through his analysis of all materials available for scholarly study of the conflict, it is Dr. Khorsandi's professional opinion that the Nagians, Scythirians, and to a great extent, the Gassel regime of the Dominion are to blame for the destablization of the Georgian region and the rise of Dictatorships such as the current Military Republic of northern Georgia. Dr. Khorsandi argues that the Georgian people were happy, peaceful, and prosperious under the rule and authority of the Russian Empire. Moscow's mix of Imperial rule and territorial autonomy was a sutiable compromise for the Georgians as they were free to determine their own destiny. Furthermore under the authority of Russia, Georgia was openned to economic possibilities that were closed to them after the war. He blames the war for also destroying the national identity of Georgia, leaving the populations without a sense of nation or hope. However, though the bulk of his book is use to criticize the Middle Eastern nations for the current state of Georgia, a region overwhelmed by violence, terrorism, and dictatorship, he does finish with a glimpse of hope. In his final chapter, Dr. Khorsandi offers his own opinion as to what can be done to save Georgia from self-destruction. Though he blieves a united Georgia may now be out of the question, thanks to the Georgian war, he does state that a peaceful solution to the current diplomacy between the states can be possible but only when democracy is truely embraced by both sides.

14.40₫

Leave it to Zeelar's most promising comic book artist to design a graphic novel based around Memnes Khafre best selling adventure novel Serpent on the Desert, but also include a graphic novel edition of Sabrecat Riders in his second omnibus publication. In the first section, the story of a Zeelaran agent uncovering a plot by terrorists is retold with a bold new edge. The second section adapts the film Sabrecat Riders, telling the heroic story of F-86 Sabre pilots who band together across the Middle East and stop at nothing to bring justice to those with none. The third section adapts the sequel Thunderbolt Riders, which carries the next generation of pilots in the newer Saab Viggen design. The fourth section is somewhat of a bonus, as it adapts the Austronesian film 'Bottom Gun' and brings exotic F-4 Phantom II action to the plate.

Earth and Water: Inquiries into the Historical Causes of the Dominion
By Tychon Kabasilas
University of Constantinople Press
1196 pages
$55.00

"Earth and water." Famously so demanded the heralds of the Great King Xerxes, King of Kings, from the Greek cities whose subjugation he demanded. The story of how the small and feuding Hellenic city-states resisted the Asiatic despot and brought to an end the dreams of universal hegemony is one of the foundational narratives of Graeco-Roman civilization. The classic Histories by the Ionian historian Herodotus have defined this tale of hubris for generations of students.

But despite this, the modern age has seen a tale of similar scope in the rise and fall of Constantine Gassel and the World Military Dominion. Echoing the tyrant Xerxes, Gassel demanded total surrender to his world empire from every nation who crossed his path, and was resisted by a small group of outsiders. Adopting the methods of Herodotus, Tychon Kabasilas has set out to identify the causes that led to the late war, the personalities of those involved, and the ways in which the Dominion was defeated.

Kabasilas' work discusses in detail the cultures and character of the various races involved in the conflict, the fables told in various quarters of the world, and the virtues and failings that determined the outcome of the war. In doing so, he reaffirms the value of the study of Classical Greek, by discovering that this story was already told before.

Lord Professor Tychon Kabasilas is the chaired professor of Antiquities at the imperial University of Constantinople. He has written several books on the Persian Wars.

Menhad and the Dominion
How two states, with the same ideology, could be such bitter enemies
By: Walter Boulware, Professor of Political History, Cambridge University

Opening statements from the Book

This is perhaps one the greatest mysteries of the Dominion Age, how Menhad, a Military Oligarchy, could be so opposed to the World Military Dominion, a Military run Dictatorship. With near identical beliefs on government they would be natural allies, one would guess, but in the end they destroyed each other. Why? Well that is the reason I have composed this book, and to hopefully solve this riddle.

Rough outline provided by the author

Menhad:
Loyal friends, bitter enemies. Their bloody history shows their devotion to allies, Saxe-Corburg could be the best example. It took tremendous amount of complaints and problems to change friend to foe for them. Scythirus, they fought them in the Wadj-Scythirus war, then befriend them when outside forces threaten them both. Then after a great deal of political conflict regarding a wide range of issues they became enemies once more.

This is perhaps the greatest reason why Menhad did not join with the Dominion, it took more than an organization promising control of the world to make these two allies again. Loyal friends, bitter enemies. Perhaps another reason is the conflict of personalities that kept Menhad and the Dominion enemies. Gassel would not like the proud Menhadiens constantly seeking honor, nor would the Menhadiens like being ruled by the egomaniac.

The World Military Dominion:
The bitter feelings towards Menhad most likely stem from the Dominion's failure to get Menhad to join them. This failure would haunt them even if they achieved victory. The personal order from Gassel for the destruction of the Menhadien people most likely came from his annoyance of the reminder of his failure, he wanted the memory erased, and to do that Menhad had to go.

So at this point, the war would leave the victor severally weakened, and the loser utterly destroyed. Because Menhad was a strong state, but the Dominion stronger.

The Second Reich
Inheritance or usurpation?
By Professor Wilhelm Herzog, Professor of contemporary history at the University of Erfurt.

From the second cover: How to be considered, the refusal by his father Wilhelm, to Frederick of Prussia when he decided, had ascended the throne, his name was Frederick IV °?
The author start from this question to ask if the Second Reich, or empire of Prussia, should or not to be considered as an antecedent history of the Holy Roman Empire, or rather should not be thought of as a deviance, instead, of German nationalism.
Analyzing in depth the causes of the birth of the second Reich, the contemporary sources and German thought at the beginning of the twentieth century, Herzog not only answers the question (as it deserves to be read), but also sketches a fresco of the period, lively and engaging.

The Great African Janus
By: Maarten Kutner and Dr. Thomas Oge
(c) University of Bahen Press
Cost: O 115

Synopsis: Political analyst and researcher Maarten Kutner and Afro-Kasnyian idealogue Thomas Oge give an inspired analysis of the current political climate of the African continent, particularly focusing on the pan-African movement and how the two main supporters, the Democratic Confederacy of Africa (historically, locally, and formally officially known as Ziyer) and the Federation of East African Nations (former lands of the Dominion-allied CNNP) have taken different paths in persuing their goals. The book gives insight on how and why these methods are used, and should provide an excellent guide to colonial powers on what feeds the mentality of the Mintsa regime and why their counterparts in East Africa work so differently. Yet it will also show how despite the differences in methods, they remain committed to each other and to Africa.

The Black Plague
By: Dr. Anthony Quinn III
Quinn University of Florida Press
(R$)60.00

The first best-seller of famed political science professor Anthony Quinn III, The Black Plague has became an instant hit in Confederate States of America and is now, for the first time, offered on international markets. Grandson of famed Patriot Party Founder, Anthony Quinn, Professor Quinn has made a name for himself as one of the foremost authorities on what he calls "the Negro Question." IN his book, Prof. Quinn lays out an compelling argument against the Negro population of the Confederate States and shows the reader why the black man must remain in bondage if civilized society in the south is to survive. Written almost like a historical biography on the events which led the south to re-adopt slavery, in the first few chapters Quinn explains how slavery returned. "It wasn't so much a difficult question of should we have slavery that our founding-father's argued over in those first few years after the fall of the union but rather, how it would be re-founded" Quinn writes. He then elaborates on the extermination plan which was implemented by the early Confederate government, mostly in secret, which saw to the death of 90% of Black American over the age of 3. Then to the extensive breeding process that followed which helped replenish the numbers but kept them at a minority to the white population.

"While many outside of the Confederate State may judge our fore-fathers for what they did, I for one applaud them. What demographic group was at the head of most crimes in the old Union? It was the blacks and unless the Confederacy wanted to wage the same futile war as the Union did, something had to be done. Something was done and history has shown, it was the best possible option if we were to survive into a more peaceful and prosperous future." History aside, the last few chapters are dedicated to the prevelent argue for while the black population should remain in bondage, with Prof. Quinn coining what has now become an iconic phrase within southern communities: You can take the Negro out of Africa, but not Africa out of the Negro.

"Lets face it, Assimilation of the Negros worked no better than it did with the Indians after the Dawes Act. In the late 1990s, the last decade of the Union, this is seen clearly. Over 50% of young black males were involved in gang activities in the old Union. I ask, what are gangs other than modernized tribes? Tribes, a feature of the African communities from which these individuals were taken from during the Atlantic Slave Trade. It was these modern tribes that terrorized American society through their constant inter-tribal warfare. Furthermore, it was these tribes that were the economic bedrock of the illegal drug trade. Illegal immigration, illegal drug trafficking, prostitution (forced or otherwise), human trafficking, the list goes on and on and are all linked to gangs. Had the Confederacy not acted, civilized society as we know it would have been destroyed and reduced to tribal societies."

In this international copy and in copies being re-sold in the Confederate States, Prof. Quinn has added a new final chapter to his book to address recent international comments made against the institution of Slavery in the Confederate States. "The international community will never understand the institution of slavery and I find it humorous to believe the Confederacy should even consider taking the suggestions of the Europeans seriously. Let us not forget it was the Europeans who put the Africans in bondage and traded weapons for men, fueling inter-tribal warfare between African peoples for generations. The problems Africa faced in the late 20th century can all be traced to European intervention. If the international community is willing to blindly exclude the Confederacy because of their own hypocrisy, then perhaps it is time the Confederacy returns to its isolationist past and let the rest of the world deal with the real threats to freedom and justice. Of course, if it goes about handling these threats in the same way it did the Dominion, then I also suggest the Confederacy begin a rearmament program."

Money and Blood: The Rise and Fall of the Black Ball
By: Robert Arden and Miguel Torrance, contributions by Richard Greaves and Marco Giamelli
Cost: £19.99, $24.99

Synopsis: The previously untold story of one of the most critical mercenary operations of the Dominion Wars, Money and Blood is a history of the Black Ball, divided into two parts: the first part chronicling its creation and first operations serving on behalf of Dominion rebel leader, Friedhelm Veicht, against Confederate forces in Chicago and Nashville, before bringing Veicht to his end under Dominion employ. From there, their operations began going sour, with a defeat in Hawaii and stalemates in the East Indies leading up to the disastrous campaigns in Kiru Tao and the effective end of the first Black Ball after the defeat in Shanghai, the tragic death of Angus Marshall and the resulting mutiny against Jack Morris.

The second part jumps forward a generation, to the Icelandic War between the Black Ball and the self-proclaimed "King of Iceland", former WesCorp head Michael Harris. Former Black Ball members, Richard Greaves and Marco Giamelli, now generals for the English and Venetians respectively, encountered and defeated Morris in Iceland, but this book will analyze the war, its results, and what remains for the Black Ball today, rumored to now be based somewhere out of South America.

For anyone who wants another perspective on the dark times of the Dominion Wars and an understanding of the strange politics of the times, this book is a must read.

Review from The Guranburg Post:

Money and Blood is one of the more interesting tales about the Dominion Wars to have come out, detailing an aspect of the war uncovered by any other work. For any scholar, it is a must read into the understanding of the New World Army Rebellion led by Friedhelm Veicht. For the casual reader, this work proves the addage that truth can be more exciting than fiction. Five out of five stars.

Review:The Great African Janus
Dr. Anthony Quinn III
Quinn University of Florida Press

In my review of The Great African Janus I should first make perfectly clear that I do not doubt the academic prowess of either author but instead understand that while they have studied the Negro man from afar, they will never understand him as we in the Confederacy. It is with this conclusion that I must refute the findings of the book for they are highly misguided and made while taking information gathered into the wrong context.

It seems the authors believe that the African people have, naturally, the ability to build for themselves a prosperous and productive civilized society. I refute this finding on the basis that Negros naturally have no talents beyond that of manual labor. I further postulate that had Africa and its people never been colonized by any people beyond that natural Africans themselves, it would be the same dark continent today as it was when the first Europeans began to colonize it. The negro knows nothing beyond tribal instincts that are biologically written within his or her genetics. Everything the negro man has now was given to him through knowledge of the white race. What has the negro given society that is based solely on what his race and culture created on its own?

A perfect case in point with my argument is the Mintsa Doctrine. Now the Democratic Confederacy of Africa would claim that this doctrine of freedom and justice for their fellow Negros is of original design. I refute that claim and instead point out its overwhelming similarities to doctrines published by the Military World Dominion. So-called Field Marshal Mintsa is as much declaring himself a master of Africa as Konstantin Gassel did of the world. He presumably believes that his will, is the will of all Africans even in the face of the obvious difference between himself and his government with that of another "free" African country, the East African Federation. Yet both nations are neither original nor based on the talents and triumphs of the negro race. Ziyer and CNNP, both were previous countries that the DCA and FEA hold their beginnings to respectively. Both were not of original African origin and both left much to the people of those regions of Africa when they collapsed. Thus, had neither Ziyer nor the CNNP existed, I conclude we'd have neither the DCA or the FEA but instead more anarchist tribes.

Simply put, why I again applaud the attempt made by both authors of The Great African Janus, I refute their evidence given that it is placed in the context that what "free" Africans have accomplished is through their own merit. This is not the case, for everything Africans have accomplished they've done so through what has been given to them by the Romans, Catholics, Europeans and so forth, and not by what they have themselves achieved.

The Sufferings of the Prince of Idiots (or the Land of Maybe)
By Sidor Pashtukov; translated from the Russian by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky
952 pages

Renowned for their translations of the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky and Leo Tolstoy, husband and wife Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky have now set out to tackle Quaon’s seminal national epic, Sidor Pashtukov’s The Suffering of the Prince of Idiots. Sidor Pashtukov is perhaps the most underrated of the Russian masters in the English-speaking world; the beauty of his prose and the impact of his ideas rivals that of any of his contemporaries. Pevear and Volokhonsky’s fresh new take on this classic will hopefully revitalize it for western audiences.

The novel begins with the arrival in Petrograd of Alexei Koloskov, an epileptic serf. After three days of aimlessly wandering the city, he falls in with a group of beggars, who offer to share with him their bread. He tells them that he is the Prince of Kiev, come to secure the recognition and friendship of the Tsar. Over the next week, he tries to gain an audience with the Tsar, but to no avail; finally, he is arrested on charges of treason and exiled to a hard labor camp in Siberia. He is beaten by his fellow prisoners, but finds a friend in nihilist Pyotr, who introduces him to an underground society of prisoners. Presenting himself before a meeting of this motley crew of liberals, socialists, and anarchists, Alexei claims to be the sovereign of a land to the west called Quaon, promising asylum to any who can escape. The prisoners agree to a plan, but are betrayed, captured, and executed.

Pevear and Volokhonsky bring to life the poetry of Pashtukov’s language – the world is not just described, it is felt; as I read the famous scene in which Alexei’s face is shoved in snow, I felt an icy tingle shoot down my spine, I could see that seemingly endless plane of white before my eyes. Alexei’s sufferings are real and immediate – the novel reveals itself more as a poem in prose than anything else, a fact so obscured in the more traditional (dare I say soulless?) Constance Garnett translation, which is bloated with Victorianisms.

Pevear and Volokhonsky have offered the English speaking world a great gift – a gift that ought to be well appreciated.

OOC: I'm not particularly happy with this and may rewrite at some point.
