OOC: This is my proposal for how to RP this war: Basically this war is going to be divided into several phases, and we’ll RP it phase by phase. Each battle within a phase should be considered to be happening at more or less the same time, unless otherwise indicated. Phase I is currently underway: In it, Hispania violates Andorran sovereignty, and hits quickly, before the Madrid Pact responds, taking Navarre, La Rioja, Cuenca, and Ciudad Real. During phase II, the Madrid Pact should be more or less involved in the war, and the WRK will join in. Hispania will attack La Rioja, Guipuzcoa, Vizcaya, Alava, and Cantabria. It will begin to move into Guadalajara, and eventually capture that province, while it occupies X&C quietly, and guarantees it’s sovereignty publically. Phase III will be the Seige of Madrid, as it is attacked from the North, South, and East. The Madrid Pact can attack and take Cantabria again. Phase IV will be the Fall of Madrid. Hispania will move north to Burgos, and take it. They will then retake Cantabria, and capture Salamanca, Avila, Villadollid, Palencia, and Zamora. They will begin to attack Leon, but be drive |

The Republic of Çerdoné hereby declares war upon the Kingdom of Hispania and all who support her in this matter. We warned against direct involvement in the Andorran situation, and yet the disregarded that. --------------------------- The war was just yet another brought upon the peoples of Çerdoné, who had grown tired at this point of the Parliament's constant wars. The war was advertised heavily on Çerdon television. News agencies called the fight corrupt, and a lie. State agencies called it a great duty to the world. The unenthused citizens simply continued on their daily lives. There was no mass enlistment of troops like there were when war was declared on Socialist Eleytheria, or Kriegsreich. Çerdoné's armies began their mobilization. |

Klaxons sounded and red lights flashed throughout military installations scattered across Rafzakael. "This is not a drill," announced loudspeakers. "All units report for deployment immediately. Repeat, this is not a drill." A lieuteant walked out of the command room, hefting a flight harness over his shoulders and buckling it across his chest. "Let's go boys! Hispania's moving into Andorra, and we've been hired to defend it. Get your asses on those transports now!" In a matter of hours, ten hulking planes had taken off from the Syndicat, and were making their way across Europe. |

OOC: So long as nobody particularly minds, Hispania has given me powers to control a resisting "Andorran Army" to make it more interesting. IC: As soon as Hispanic forces declared war, Andorra was up and ready in arms. The Andorran Republic would not fall; With allies in Çerdoné coming to their aid eventually, it was decided that they could mow the forces of the WRK and Hispania over. Until then, however, a strategy of falling back to Madrid was adopted. It was decided that the Andorran military would keep the country in a defensive lock-down until they could get support from allies, at which point they would make a burst outward. Andorran planners even went so far as to count on a counter attack, at which point Hispania would become a democratic, dependent territory of Andorra. Allies from The Syndicat were expected now to arrive soon. They would be quick to aid in the defense of Madrid, and would act as supplement to Andorran armed forces. To prepare for the imminent Hispanic attacks, large numbers of men were gathered around major cities, and proper fortifications were built. The most aggressive branch in this war would be the air force. The airforce aggressively harassed and attacked any oncoming Hispanic troops. Bombing raids into Hispanic territory were rare, but they did occur. Andorra was prepared for war. |

Even as Andorran aircraft filled the skies over Navarre, Hispania was quickly able to deploy their own strategic fighters to help fight for the skies. Aided by SAM sites along the border, moved there during the military buildup, they took down a fair number of enemy planes, reducing their presence in the sky just enough to allow a ground attack to be feasible. The very minute it was possible, Hispanic tanks, infantry, and mechanized artillary The entirety ofDivision B had been devoted to the task, with the goal of taking complete control of Pamplona by the end of three days at the most. Hispania needed to win this war quickly, if it had any chance to do so, while Cerdone and the Madrid Pact were unable to interfere. While the Andorran defense was powerful, it was spread thin, trying to protect itself from the south and east. In the north, Hispania's navy was beginning to annoy the Andorrans, but deliberately avoided direct confrontation. In Navarre, however, the Andorrans quickly realized they were outgunned. They would be forced to call in reinforcements from the borders along Teruel and Valencia, but risk opening up to further assaults. It would be a tough decision - Hispania had the upper hand of being able to decide when and where it would attack, and they had attacked in great numbers, all at once. From the safety within Hispanic borders, artillary began to bombard Pamplona, and the major garrisons within Navarre. The Hispanic generals also attempted to avoid striking civilian targets - to maintain moral superiority. The military intelligence stolen by Estevao came in handy here, as Hispanic officials were able to pinpoint exactly where major airfields, or munition depots were located within the province, and launch strategic missile attacks to disable them. Even as Andorra seemed to have control of the skies, they realized that the landing strips were bombed beyond use, and they would have to leave the province to refuel - giving Hispania a dangerous edge in the air. OOC: Remember, Hispania is launching several attacks at once. Navarre/La Rioja, Cuenca, and Ciudad Real are all under attack at the same time, though they will be RPed independently. |

It did not take long for the Andorran forces in Navarre to realize they were holding out in vain. The Hispanic forces in the area out gunned them severely, and the plan of a bulk-defense doctrine had already been established. Victory for the Andorrans would come at a high cost- especially with the current in place plan of huddling up around Madrid and trying to hold out until allies could come to the rescue. Navarre itself was quick to fall apart, and Hispanic forces soon marched through the city, marking a quick ToK victory in the first major force-on-force battle of the war. Hispanic forces on the border found things to be ominously quiet as they made their initial attacks. At some points they made their way across the border, wondering why they had met so little resistance. It was true that the Andorran population was generally hostile towards occupiers and did not cooperate- but military resistance was frighteningly absent. Forces from all over the border began a gentle fall back towards Madrid. They had a determination to protect their capital, and the birthplace of the alliance that was now coming to their very rescue. Hopefully, that rescue would be on time. |

Posted Image It was a week after the first Hispanic troop had crossed the border. Along the northern coast, missile strikes destroyed naval facilities, forcing the Andorran Navy to dock in civilian or natural harbors, if they docked at all. Meanwhile, Hispanic submarines and the Hispanic fleet patrolled the northern waters, equal in might to Andorra's powerful navy. When the WRK ships arrived, they would control the Bay of Biscay, and reinforcement would be all but impossible. Navarre had fallen quickly, as Hispania advanced, surprisingly. The vast retreat from the borders was noticed, when Cuidad Real quickly fell as well, and Hispanic troops reached the borders of Xerxes & Catalonia with minor incident. La Rioja had been occupied as well, though along the northern coast, and Cuenca resistance was somewhat greater, and Hispania cautiously moved forward. Meanwhile, reinforcements from Andalusia were striking Badajoz, but just as in Navarre, resistance was relatively light, much lighter than should be expected from a power that had until recently been superior in military might to Hispania. The generals changed their plans, attempting to capitalize on the Andorran retreat to Madrid. They would seize the coast, and destroy all chances of a beachhead being established. Their missiles had already decimated the military points of interests, though Andorra had begun to retaliate, striking known military bases of Hispania, such as the large ones in the Balaerics, and Madiera. Hispania, however, could simply redirect her ships to harbors in Pascoag or the WRK, while Andorra had no such luck. The HCI refused to get involved. Romano, meanwhile, began toasting what appeared to be the begginning of a complete and total victory. He released a statement, declaring Xerxes & Catalonia to be an integral, independent protecterate of Hispania, and that any violation of their soviergnty by any power would be seen as a violation of soviergnty of Hispania as a whole. For the time being, strangely, Madrid seemed a haven. No missiles rained down on the city. Bombers could be seen only in the horizon, striking targets in Cuencas or Guadalajara. It seemed that Hispania was hesitant to strike Madrid, though it was an inevitability. The blitzkreig, then, by all appearances looked to be working wonderfully. "It will be over in a matter of months" was the prevailing opinion of the Hispanic High Command, who had previously warned against a "decade-long war with Andorra". Morale throughout the Kingdom was high, and Romano's popularity amongst his constituents reached the low 80s, a record for his regime. If it went on like this, he might just decide to call for elections. |

OOC: I motion that this be moved into War and Negotiation. IC: The Hispanic navy had been.... a nuisance, to say the least. Hispanic artillery bombardments had been..... obstacles. But the Andorran military continued fighting, proudly and bravely, hoping to god that the allies of freedom would come to their aid. The West Roman Kingdom had been surprisingly quiet since their declaration of war- an increasingly pessimistic Andorran government took this to be a bad sign- a calm before a terrible, terrible storm. The Hispanics were already in control of a good part of Andorra's west. Things from the view of an onlooker would look horridly bleak for Andorra's democratic future. Andorrans, however, knew that their government was ready to spring about a surprise, and that the invaders would be repelled from their country in good time. The plan of defense did not look to brightly, however, even to officials in the highest levels of Andorran government. The Hispanics were quickly advancing in the north, and in the south. They were eating the country up in their mighty grasp. In the north, Andorra was annoyed to learn, Çerdoné had been attacked by more powers, which would only slow down the pace of incoming support, and possibly even destroy the hopes of a free Andorra entirely- but the country did not give up, nor did it rest its head for a moment. It proceeded blindly, in good faith, with the knowledge that the Çerdons would come soon, and they would be saved. Hispania's continued claims of dominance over Iberia annoyed Andorran officials time and time again. As soon as Hispania announced the protectorate status of Xeres and Catalonia, Andorra countered that by announcing it to be under the protection of its own government. The move caused further blunder with Hispania's government, which had by now arrogantly strutted itself as the master of Iberia. Madrid had become a city of military dominance. It was heavily fortified, and heavily manned. Soldiers and recruited civilians alike erected further fortifications. Military equipment was positioned for the optimal defensive capabilities. If Hispania wanted to destroy Andorra, it would need to make its way past Madrid- which wasn't going to happen. Not with anything short of nuclear arms. Andorra sat and waited. And even if the allies never cae, Andorra would make this conquest one bloody hell for the invaders. |

OOC: Just as a note, "Vichy North Africa" on the Africa map is owned by Pascoag. He told me sometime ago that I was to control it until he completed an upcoming RP that he was planning. So I do have permission to cross that land. He's an ally anyway, so it wouldn't be a problem otherwise, but I just wanted to clarify this minor point. And this only applies to the last bit of the post. IC: A simple image served as naval jack for the legion of ships that formed a grand armada. A cross ornamented by the Greek letters × and Ñ. From the reign of the Emperor St. Constantine the Great, Chi-Rho, the labarum, had been a symbol of the Romans' dedication to the Lord of Glory. Posted Image Additionally, each jack also bore a canton with the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Sicily or the Kingdom of Sardinia. Hundreds of ships carried vast numbers of men and carriers bore planes as the vast fleet passed the Pillars, sailing past the Portuguese lands toward the Bay of Biscay. It has been said that the Andorrans had been "hoping to god that the allies of freedom would come to their aid." God had answered their prayers but as men say, "the Lord works in mysterious ways." The Sicilian and Sardinian warships began to engaged their Andorran foes. Planes took off the carriers flew toward the coasts, hoping to scout out a beachhead for troops to land. The fighting would be brutal, and the Andorrans did not appear willing to give up any time soon. At the same time, the Army of Africa deployed reinforcements westward near Ceuta, stationed in case further land support was necessary for the epic campaign. |

Posted Image Like a giant hand, Hispania had seized Andorra relatively quickly, taking all but Madrid by the end of the month, and contesting a few minor outlying territories around the province. The Andorran Navy was either at the bottom of the bay, or secured in a ToK harbor, and Hispania quickly sent her own navy to the Danish strait, to halt any advances from Cerdone. Meanwhile, the ground forces of WRK and Hispania had quickly taken the territory, chasing the retreating Andorrans to a small enclave within Hispania. But, while the Andorrans had abandoned all but the capital (and this did fuel pro-Hispanic support in the undefended provinces), they had not been idle. The land was a fortress, and would be difficult to take. It would be at Madrid that the real war would take place, where more than 90% of the casualties would fall, and where the fate of Andorra would truly be decided. It was a race against time - Hispania had to take Madrid before Cerdone broke out of Scandinavia, or the Madrid Pact reinforced Andorra. Missile strikes against air fields had disabled Andorran air power, but the huge amount of anti-aircraft weaponry along the capital made it impossible to fly over for Hispania as well. This would be one of the few modern wars in which air power would play little, if any, role. Hispanic generals began to pour over maps, and under orders from Romano, mark certain regions as not bombable. He wanted to preserve this city as best as possible. The entirety of the Andorran ground forces, or near it, was now centered on this one small province. The WRK and Hispania surrounded them on all sides. They would have to take the land inch by inch, village by village, block by block. It would be long, it would be bloody, and if the rest of the war seemed easy, it was merely the calm before the true storm. |

The Hispanic army had arrived on Madrid's doorstep, now with their allies from the West Roman Kingdom there to accompany them. Still, it looked as though Çerdon aid was far from near, and that the Andorran army, now concentrated into a single province, would have to fend for itself for much of this war. Madrid was being prepared for optimum defense. Literally millions of men now worked to defend the small province from attacks. Air strikes for Hispania had already been cut down to a new low. Anti-air capabilities in Madrid were so strong that the network had made Madrid "untouchable" from the skies. Inversely, Andorran fighters could strike enemy positions near Madrid with relative ease; one of the few advantages that Andorra held in this defense. Hispania may have taken most of Andorra, but the war was far from over. With Madrid being fortified with the full might of the Andorran army, and Hispania and the West Roman Kingdom to reluctant to strike with nuclear weapons, Andorra's capital wasn't going anywhere- or so was the hope of the government, and the people. |

"All units! Fall back now! I repeat, fall back to the city!" A rocket flew past First Sergeant O'Neill's head, slamming into the city wall behind him. To his left, another scored a hit against a Syndicat IFV, which burst into flame. He threw himself behind a pile of rubble; it would have to suffice as cover for the moment as he shouted into his radio. "Lieutenant! We need to evac!" "Negative, Sergeant," came the reply. "But if you'd like to get your men back into the city anytime soon, it's not too bad in here. Tell you what, I'll send out an air strike so your sorry asses can steal home. Over and out." Within thirty seconds of the radio message, a wing of F/A-42s came into view over the walls, raining steel and fire at the oncoming Hispanian forces. "Go, go go!" shouted O'Neill, and the platoon of Stormtroopers made a dash for the buildings. Here and there, a man went down, but most of the platoon was now relatively safe inside what was once an office building, now apparently a heavily fortified bunker. Now this was workable. "Lieutenant?" O'Neill radioed. "What now, O'Neill?" "We need some long rifles out here." The Lieutenant snickered on the other end. Well, at least they'd be productive. "Roger that, O'Neill. The APC should be there soon. Don't have too much fun, 'cause I have orders to pull out if it gets too hot in here." |

OOC: I could be wrong, but I think you usually need special munitions to take out a runway... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JP233 ....or you need really, really big missiles. I know that in Desert Storm and prior to it, destroying airfields was often surprisingly difficult 1) because of the massive reinforced concrete nature of the runways and 2) because even if they're damaged runways are relatively easy to repair. That's why they invented JP233. Should we just assume really badass missiles? And Rafzakael's aircraft should theoretically be able to refuel and still be zipping around; all you need are decent-sized roads, a fuel truck, and good suspension on the plane, all of which I imagine a nation like Raf can come up with. Just throwing this out there... |
