Negus Wire, in response, had wired (no pun intended) a telegraphic note to the powers that be in Alexandria. Therefore, he had his rigid airship, the Khartoum, prepped for flight. Escorted to the Zeppelin by both his usual guardians, bearing their 'traditional' Saigas, as well as his wife - Ezri. (The Saiga-12 was standard issue, and manufacture, in Zeelar. It consisted of a combat shotgun that was adapted to the framing of a modernized Kalashnikov rifle.) Exhaling slowly, the now-monarch was dressed in his typical fashion as well consisting of, as always, a black zipped hooded windbreaker resplendent of nautical stars that met a pair of blue jeans held up by a green cloth belt. Considering that his wife was dressed in a similar manner, though her own body was covered in a pair of layered shirts, he did not find that the Alexandrians would take any offense to them. Taking with him several gifts to be given to the Pope, he had with him, among other such relics, a mask of the Masai peoples who dwelled to the south of his land. He had only hoped that upon entry these would be accepted for the anthropological treasures that they were. He had long been a supporter of archaeological research, and was often interested in it himself. The flight over desert and plain was rather rapid and did not require a great deal of time. The gentle bobbing of the vessel added to the perceived security and luxury of it, though no member of the crew was to give up their watchful eye. This did not, however, suggest that a request to land was not made posthaste. |

The Zeelari zeppelin alighted on the private airfield of the Papal Compound outside of Alexandria. A Coptic greeting party received the Negus and his entourage, who were shown to their guest quarters. An elderly Coptic man, who identified himself as the Papal Chamberlain, pulled the king aside and advised, "Your miner's garments are not fit for a head of state." Negus Wire inquired about further and the Chamberlain explained that denim is, in Egypt, the material worn by miners and none else. "Furthermore your wife cannot proceed further in this kingdom wearing pants and other men's garments. We have graciously prepared splendid attire for you and your wife, so that your station will be properly reflected in your dress." He snapped his fingers and servants brought in a fine black robe embroidered with gold threads for the Negus, and a dark green dress for the Queen that covered the wearer's neck and arms. |

As the Zeppelin touched down, the security team first met with the greeting party before they were able to receive the Negus. They were of course meant no offense, nor were they intended to be shown up. Rather they were simple precautions that were intended to prevent what had happened previously in Zeelari history. The King understood the philosophies behind the dress change for his own garments. He even understood why, if denim was banned for him, it should be banned for his wife. However, he could not understand why she was being issued new clothing. Granted, she could be issued something that did not involve denim, but she was apparently not very used to wearing a dress. However, this also added to the mystique of it for both of them, and apparently both enjoyed the new garments that they were placed into. Ezri continued to admire the sleeves of the dress, looking at her hand bizaarly, and specifically the manner it had space to move within it. "Perhaps, Your Eminice, it is time that we offer you our gifts," the King replied in return. "I thank you for your generosity, and before we being with sole business, we should exchange these pleasantries. This is not to suggest that I wish, of course, for negotiations to at all break down. We have no hostilities with your people at all; we earnestly hope that none may ever arise." |

The Negus and his Queen were presented to the presence of Pope Dioscorus, an exceedingly and frail old man of poor physical health but nonetheless excellent mental acuity. Wearing brilliant gold-laced garments, he sat on his throne elevated above the others in the room, but assistants stood around him to support his frail hand. The Pope did not speak directly to the Negus, but had to whisper into the ear of one of his assistants, because the strength of his voice was destroyed by a bout with throat cancer. His assistant heard the Pope's whispered words, and spoke them aloud before the court. "His All-Holiness thanks the Negus for this fine gift by the hand of Masaai tribesmen. It shall be displayed prominently in the Papal apartment. His All-Holiness presumes the evangelization of the Masaai people is proceeding at a good pace, under the tutelage of Zeelari missionaries. "His All-Holiness has invited you to Alexandria so that He may congratulate you on your new throne. His All-Holiness is also urgently interested in addressing the state of anarchy in Zeelar. The fact that your wife the Queen showed up in Egypt wearing the shirt and pants of a male is quite troubling to His All-Holiness and is indicative of wider lawlessness in Zeelar itself, for she broke the law of gender. Perhaps she broke it unknowingly, in which case His All-Holiness will overlook this one transgression. "The Queen must set an example for all the women and girls of Zeelar, to show them that a man shall not dress like a woman, and a woman shall not dress like a man, for that is the duty of all men and women to abide by the law of gender prescribed by God. It is written in the law that a man cannot wear a dress, in the same way a woman cannot wear pants. "His All-Holiness expresses His hope that the Queen's transgression is not symptomatic of wider social disorder and decay in Zeelar, for He is mindful that the breakdown of personal laws and family laws presages the breakdown of society. In any case, Egypt is willing to assist the Negus in enforcing the divine and human laws in Zeelar, and to curb the evils of anarchy, democracy, and radicalism." |

The King eyed this man with a great deal of respect despite his physical condition. Of course, his eyes were held in disguise by his moppy hair and the non-verbal respect may not have been covered in the manner that he had so intended for it to be received. This, however, did not make it any less real. He smiled sadly as he watched the spectacle involving the requirement of whispering to the other. Wire nearly made a motion to his wife to have her bring him a tablet to write upon and ease the throat, though he did not wish to make anything that could be seen as an insult. With the address, the Negus lowered his head, "It has, Your Eminence. The Masaai and I fought side by side. I do not know if you have heard, but the war was what prompted me to end my own pagan ways. I had a vision, and accepted the message of Christ. As we were spurred on to victory, those around me found there to be no need of evangelization - they understood that we owed our victory to divine hands and not those of mere mortal man." "I truly thank Your Holiness, for allowing me this opportunity to extend relations between our peoples and forge a more united Africa. I thank you for your congratulations on the new throne. I ask politely, however, that an argument towards our way of life may be made. Yes, we are slightly lawless at times. However, that is because we strive for a natural life. Do not condemn without a chance for me to defend myself. As you know, we too have repented before Christ. Zeelarans are anarchists, in a transcendental philosophy. People do not make love in the streets. People do not cause great travesties. Rather, we are in tune with our environment and live without the horrible constraints a strong government provides. People are free to live as they choose. Large governments cause instability, we argue...present company excluded of course." He then shut his eyes before continuing, "We did not realize there was a gender law in effect here; however I fail to understand it. However, that does not mean that in the future it shall not be upheld. I ask politely, however, that you do not criticize the Zeelaran life style." "Social disorder, however, is something we strive for. Chaos is the spice of life, without it, we would have nothing. The constant change, and disorder that anarchy provides allows us to live life to the fullest. Lively and vivacious. Strong and powerful. We raise great stock in this manner." |
