Amidst the far reaches of the galaxies, beyond the limits of all but the bravest of men, there resides one adventurer, one modern day knight errant in this world of limitless boundaries and infinitely surmountable obstacles who's mission is to bring peace to the embattled, love to the neglected, and good old fashioned human ingenuity to the cold calculations of space. This man is Spaceman Spiff. Posted Image The eternally intrepid Spaceman Spiff Spiff has no father, no mother, nor any home to speak of. Since birth he has roamed the outer regions of space, venturing from planet to planet and system to system in hopes of eluding the many enemies he has accumulated. Posted Image Spaceman Spiff in his youth Traveling in his trusty CV-113 Spacecraft along with his his honorable cohort, Spaceservant Sancho, Spiff embarks on quests of all kinds, traveling near and far in order to save the day and live by the codes of knight errantry which have long been forgotten. Perhaps he is vain, perhaps he is incompetent, but no living thing has ever accused Spiff of not having a heart the size of the Baltas System. Requesting nothing more from each planet he visits then a set of luxurious accommodations, Spaceman Spiff continues to traverse the universe, eager to explore the farthest reaches of space, dead or alive. Did you know that: Calvin and Hobbes is set in Cleveland, Ohio? As a Cleveland resident I've visited some of the locales of C&H. :) |

Yep, I visited the Natural History Museum where Calvin convinced his parents to buy him dinosaur toys because he claimed it was 'educational'. The museum can be identified by the bronze stegosaurus statue out front, which is seen in the C&H strip. I also visited the Art Museum next door, where Calvin transformed into a T. rex and devoured the wealthy patrons after getting his inspiration viewing the dinosaur skeletons at the Natural History Museum. Once I drove through Chagrin Falls, a Cleveland suburb, the town Calvin trampled Godzilla-style when he transformed into a giant. The town is identified by the distinctive gazebo and clock tower in the town square which appear in C&H, and it is also the real-life residence of Bill Watterson. |
