Prime Minister Adolf Galland

Posted Image Munich, Austro-Bayern "Are you sure you want to do this?" Prime Minister Adolf Galland of Austro-Bayern simply nodded, curtly, once. "They're waiting for you." Galland nodded again, curtly, once. And then he entered the Reichstag chambers. * OFFICIAL REICHSTAG TRANSCRIPT PM: Ladies and gentlemen of the Reichstag... THE EVACUATION OF GEORGIA WAS AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS! ::applause:: PM: I think it is safe to say, Representatives, that we are all proud of Lieutenant Colonel Bernhard von Bulow and his men! ::applause:: PM: Unfortunately, of course, the war continues to rage on in Georgia, ferocious as ever. It seems our world has become infected by hatred and brutality on orders not seen since the World Wars of old! Even now, the Holy Catholic Imperium illegally annexes Al-Andalus, quiet New Moravia is shattered by heartless mercenaries, and Kasnyia is deposed by its own army... SHOULD WE STAND IDLY BY AS OUR WORLD CONSUMES AND ITSELF? I SAY NO! ::applause:: PM: Some of the atrocities we have seen in our lives have been appallingly horrific. Nuclear, biological, and chemical attacks! The rampant and spreading use of mercenaries--men paid solely to slaughter! Prisoners are shot, civilians are defiled, and war is seen as merely a game where one need only type in an order to strike for it to occur! SHOULD WE ACCEPT WAR AS IF IT WERE MERELY MESSAGES SENT BACK AND FORTH ACROSS AN INTERNET CHAT ROOM OR A FORUM? NO, WE ARE IN A REAL WORLD, WITH REAL LIVES TO BE SAVED OR LOST! ::applause:: PM: And so, Representatives of Austro-Bayern, I call upon you to support the holding of Conventions in Munich on the matters of the Laws of War! I call upon you, Representatives of Austro-Bayern, to cry out HONOR AND GLORY AND NOT STAND FOR THESE HORRORS ANY LONGER! ::applause:: PM: Herodotus once said that "The only good is knowledge, and the only evil is ignorance." WE KNOW OUR WORLD IS REAL! WE KNOW OUR WORLD IS SHATTERED! AND WE SHOULD NOT IGNORE IT ANY LONGER! ::applause:: * And so, little Austro-Bayern sent out invitations. Invitations to every nation on every continent of the world. Invitations to The Munich Conventions Relative to the Conduct and Practice of Warfare. *** OOC: As I recently learned and as many of you have probably noticed at one point or another, the Geneva Conventions don't apply to our little world :o The Munich Conventions seek to correct this. Assuming enough countries show up (which, you know, they kinda should  ), I'd like for a small separate area on the forum to be set up where we can discuss, following the patterns of the real-world Geneva and Hague Conventions: 1) "the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces in the Field and at Sea" 2) "the Treatment of Prisoners of War" 3) "the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War" 4) "Laws and Customs of War on Land and at Sea" And yes, I know this forum is chock-full of evil nations and so on, but for the record pretty much every country on the planet in the real world has ratified the Geneva Conventions, so that should tell you something... <_< |

Quaon will send a representative to these Munich Conventions, but will not ratify any agreement that we see as contrary to our sovereignty. The New British Empire follows its own laws, and will not see our rights infringed upon by some international organization. Durick Veta will send a representative. OOC: Is there a reason for you being morally offended that our fictional countries don't abide by real world laws? |

The King of Sicily, Sardinia, and Africa, will send a delegation to the convention to discuss the laws of war. The King looks to the Christian "Just War" tradition as a source for this discussion. However, the King's delegation has strict instructions that no institution of international law can be binding without the official endorsement of the Roman (or currently Russian) Emperor, and thus the delegation will not sign any document of international law that is not endorsed by Russia at this time. |

The Military Republic follows a simple policy of 'soldier's honor', a far more streamlined and untrivialized practice on the battlefield. The Military Republic thereby denounces this Convention as yet another civillian chain binding the military to their whim. We will not send a representative. |

Swiss Nag Ehgoeg will NOT send a representative. Not all nations can afford the lofty ideals of the Germans. We Swiss find ourselves with a limited armed forces. We cannot afford to sacrifice the only methods we have of defending ourselves from the unjust tyrants of the world for the sake of good form. We praise the humanitarian interests of the Germans, but implore you to live in the real world - not the abode of dreamers. **** Neo Nag Ehgoeg will not send a representative. We live by the laws of God - may he judge what is right and wrong. **** Nag Ehgoeg will send General of the Army Agageldy Mametgeldiyev to represent Nag Ehgoeg. Though we warn you that we will sign no document that is against the best interests of our Nation. OOC: Side note about Mametgeldiyev... he's "credited with the success of the Texerado campaign"... a campaign that was successful because a lethal and inhumane biological weapon developed by (Archibald) Camizu was used by the Nagians on their enemies... and any civilians that happened to get in the way. |

"The Communist Republic of Yshurak finds Austro-Bayern's intentions to be noble. Our country has always followed a doctrine that has respected the often forgotten Geneva Conventions. Perhaps it is time for the world to renew that humanitarian goal. A representative will be sent." - President Yugaf Lutenktzi ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "With the rise of the terrible regime of General Konstantin Ganz Gassel in our crippled ally, Kasnyia, my people realize the need for this conference. Kiru Tao has always respected humanitarian laws in times of war and jumps to the opportunity of having that respect spread. We will send a delegation post-haste." - Emperor Kojirou Gokaru ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Despite nefarious propaganda spread against our fine nation of freedom and opportunity, the United States of America has always observed the Geneva Conventions. Ergo, we shall honor this call by sending in a delegate to the Munich Conventions." - President Thaddeus E. Goreprime ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ No response was returned from El Dejarbo. Presumably this had much to do with Diablo's second insurrection against the government. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Europeans and their little games of 'freedom' and 'rights.' Such hypocrisy from a continent that has exploited the world to its own ends. The God-Emperor warns you from attempting to enforce such so-called 'laws' of war, or there will be consequences" - Parik Suvarq Scythirian Minister of Information ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "We care little in the concerns of outsiders. Sutekh-Te-Ankh shall not send anyone to these conventions." - Pharaoh Sutekhahotep XXXII |

The Russian Empire deems this to be a noble and honorable act and will send a small delegation to review the new terms of international law that this convention sets forth to create. However, we also understand that a great deal of powerful nation may not attend and therefore we will withhold our judgment and any commitment to these new laws until all provisions have been made completely clear. Should anything infringe on our safety and right to protect ourselves from nations that are not so honorable, we will be forced to refrain from signing any documents. This will not be made as an offense to Austro-Bayern or any other nation that may sign the document but will simply be a necessary precaution to keep our people safe. -Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia ______________________________________ The Catholic Commonwealth of Neo-Macedonia does not make a habit of mingling with heretic nations. We believe that the Holy Bible is the only set of laws our nation need adhere to and therefore will not be sending any sort of delegation. -Official Commonwealth Statement. ______________________________________ The Eastern Empire finds it of the greatest offense that any such nation or group of nations should feel it is their right to compose laws that others should follow. We believe it is our right as victors of war, to do whatever we deem necessary to captured enemy soldiers. Should this involve extreme pain, then so be it and we'd expect no less should a Dynastian soldier be caught alive. No international law shall ever govern the Eastern Empire, not now nor ever. -Official statement from the office of the Sovereign of the Eastern Empire. _______________________________________ Though we have adhered to a isolationist doctrine, we strongly believe in the principles of democracy and freedom and shall therefore send a delegation to this conference as a sign of good hope and a strong belief that some international laws should be made to keep war as civilized as possible. -Department of Foreign Affairs, The Seceded South. |
