The House of Eger Posted Image The House of Eger is led by Sir Miklos of Eger, a Hungarian knight. It consists of a small group of errant knights and their retainers, most of whom are Hungarian or German in origin. They had been given an allowance of gold by the King of Hungary, and sent to Transylvania to populate the country in his name. Before stepping onto Transylvanian soil, the knights elected Sir Miklos of Eger as the leader of the group, and dedicated their mission to the Virgin Mary. The sigil of the House of Eger is a stork holding a vine of ivy. At the moment it is not a personal coat of arms, but is the coat of arms of the town of Eger in Hungary where most of the knights originated, and which was chosen by the group to represent their origins. Eventually the sigil will gradually become associated with the family of Sir Miklos of Eger. Statistics: Knights: 31 Squires: 180 (light infantry) Archers: 52 Clergymen: 9 Other civilians: 414 Total military: 263 Total population: 677 |

Sir Miklos of Eger (OOC: This formal biography is different from the one I posted earlier in the other thread. This biography should be considered official for gameplay purposes.) Sir Miklos was the product of a rape. His mother, a Magyar daughter of a mason, was taken by a drunken German mercenary, in the Hungarian town of Eger. The girl heeded the advice of her priest, and therefore did not abort her violently conceived baby. Miklos was born with a curse written on his face; he was afflicted with a harelip. Shunned by the townsfolk, he only found acceptance after pubescence, when he was able to grow profuse facial hair to cover his ugly deformity. The young man was quite strong and skilled in combat, and gained employment as a personal bodyguard of the Hungarian King, Stephen, who eventually rewarded him with a knighthood. Eventually the King sent Miklos to Transylvania to settle the land and help people it with a loyal and Catholic population that might eventually prove to be a source of taxes and conscripts. Sir Miklos rarely speaks because his harelip gives him a ridiculous lisp, but that only drove him to double his effort and determination in all his endeavors. He enjoys the respect of his peers with his calm leadership and resourcesfulness, and was therefore elected by his fellow knights to lead the expedition to Transylvania. He comes with a wife and son; having buried the corpse of a stillborn child back home in Eger. His surviving son, Anthony, is also afflicted with the ugly curse, which the Catholic priests tried and failed to exorcise from his wife's pregnant stomach. |
