Honestly, for any DS-toting forumgoers here, do yourself a favor and do not buy Final Fantasy 3.

It is indeed a kick ass RPG, but it simply isn't challenging. Oh sure, it is during the first half. The second half, the game doesn't challenge you at all. It's easy.

Let me name how easy it gets during the last part of the game. My characters have about ~70 job levels each, real levels being 40. Dragoon, Black Mage, Red Mage, Warrior team.

One warrior attack and a jump from a Dragoon is enough to down Bahamut, Odin, AND Leviathan. Come on. In the FF series, these guys are supposed to be the toughest cookies in the game, and I'm able to take them down in TWO HITS?

You heard right. I didn't even have to fire off a Cure/Cura/Curaga/Curaja, or an elixir. Two rounds of attacks and down they go.

Maybe I just spent a little too much time grinding, but come on, that's pathetic.

Whew, glad to have that off my chest.

Well, at least the new generation is rediscovering the old classics!

...

Seems about right.

In all the early FF games (especially the Japan only games) it wasn't difficult to over-level and pwn the bosses.

FF3 is a classic. Seriously. Buy it, you'll love being an Onion Knight.

The early games rocked. VII wasn't terrible. Every game since that has sucked... well... Crystal Caravan was a bit of a grind but it was at least kinda innovative... and Tactics looks vaguely entertaining.

Do not pay full price for FF3. Get it second hand or something, but do get it.

Hey, I liked 12....twelve was good...

Any comment I make about FFXII will include the word "mother" and end in the phrase "when the rent is due".

I don't own the game, so I might be biased having played it only on my cousin's PS2 but the controls on that game sucked. Hard.

And not just when the rent is due.

I really don't need to. Every FF game has the same plot line and if you can't get into a game in the first half hour then it's not a good game. A good game grabs you and pulls you in. FFXII was uninspiring in that regard.

Did you play from the beginning or from some point in the middle?

I don't really think this is the same as the other stories. Not to say they dont have the typical FF stuff like Cid, Moogles et al, but the story isn't typical save the world...

The only final fantasy games I've ever played were 8 and 10. I didn't care for 10, but 8 wasn't half bad.

With the attrocious voice acting (It may have been the first time they ever used it for FF but come ON...), I don't blame yeh.

And I liked 8's world and battle system and a good deal of the story. The Romance was waaaaay to forced however.

VIII was with the emo git right?

The one where women threw themselves at him and he sat there twiddling his thumbs while he missed the obvious and generally had some weird issues like a gun handle with a sword.

VIII is the only FF game I played, and it was at a friends. Maybe I'm not giving it all its due, but from what I saw and a review of it I later saw which agreed with my pinion of the game, it sucked.

Though VII looked good, I never played it as friends of mine played it and I just watched them out of boredom.

Heh, yeah 8 was the emo guy. And most FF fans (I'm not one of them. I liked the world, if not really all the story) hate the game.

I just felt it was a poor outing, as most of it was pretty crappy.

Especially the Emo Git. I hated him most of all.

I mean, maybe, if you were E or something you could connect with him on the Emo portion, but the Git part? The Git part ruins him as a character.

He was just a crap character, and his team was pretty bad, you had the probably gay guy who got excited over everything (like the fucking train) and seemed to fit more in a mentos commercial, and then there was the villain... *Cue rolling eyes*

He was straight funnily enough. But yes, wacked out. And not many people liked the emo guy. As I said, I differe in most fans opinions simply due to the environment and the combat system.

I will agree that the environment was good, and the combat was alright except for the hours the game wasted in combat with the draw (I think, I can't remember what it was called exactly) etc.

Then again I've not played enough FF, or even own any FF for me to come to any definite conclusion, and I am trying to remember how I felt about the game a long time ago (I was 12 or something).

All I truly remember clearly was hating the gigantic spider which made me think of that one Will Smith Movie in the "Wild West", you know the one I am referring to.

Hey, I liked 8. Quite a bit.

I liked 9 too.

10 sucked.

10-2 isn't worth mentioning. Worst ever.

I didn't like 9 at first, but then I played it again last year and it grew on me. 10-2 was a grave blunder. *shudder*

As for ten itself, twas a mixed bag for me. Hated the linearity and certain character voices, liked other character voices and elements of the battle system. Liked the FMV theater :P.

I will admit I liked 10-2's battle system, however.

8's Magic system was a mixed bag: I liked how you could stock spells, but if you ran out of a limited quantity of spells and couldn't find a place to get them, you'd be screwed.
