Okay, I got the Orange Box. Great deal, I think. I load it up. I don't have time for an extended play, so I start up Portal. Amazing. Mind-boggling. Awesomeness. Later, I start up HL2. I've heard a lot about the game, and it starts out nice enough. Dated graphics, yes, but that was expected. Finally I get a gun. And all of a sudden I realize that the gunplay is incredibly, incredibly, incredibly...boring. Maybe I have no taste. Maybe. But this is what I have to say: saying Half Life is better than Halo is simply a lie. Halo makes you feel powerful from the very beginning of the game. Half Life 2-I feel like I'm using a peashooter. It's boring. |

Thats because the Half Life series uses real physics in its game engine. That has always been its selling point. Also, it's program is easily modded, which has made it very popular amongst non-professional (though hardly amateur) programmers. |

I like both Half-Life and Halo. I'd find it very difficult to choose one over the other. |

I agree. I enjoy HL2 when I'm looking for realism and headshots. I enjoy Halo1/2/3 when I'm looking to beat someone in the face with my rifle. Depends on the mood really. |

That way it makes you conserve ammo and the pistol sucks, once you et the SMG or the shotgun it gets better. Also, HalfLife has countless mods, go search for some. |

Ouch... Well look at it this way. You got what, 3 games for the price of one? Good deal no matter how bad they are really. |

Portal alone was probably worth it. |

Agreed, Team Fortress also surprised me, all of Valves games are very serious with even a hint of horrific and depressing atmospheres: Half Life, Counter Strike etc. However Team Fortress 2 had plenty of humor, which caught me off guard. I gotta give valve credit, tey only have about 100 workers working in there offices, Halo has hundreds. |

I beat Halo 1 and played almost half of Halo 3. I beat Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Episodes 1 and 2. From what I've seen from the Halos I've played, I prefer Half-Life for the following reasons: - Better story; - Less redundant; - Aiming (headshots are easier to make in Half-Life). But of course, I haven't played Halo 2 at all, so... |

Halo has some of the best multiplayer ever. I don't mean online, because I've never played. But experiences like hitting my roommate across the map with an energy sword will last with me forever. Halo is unparalleled in local multiplayer. It just is. |

I liked Halo. I didn't like it at first, because it was on the X-Box. And I used to suck at console shooters. Then it came out on PC, and it was fun. And I liked it. The story was a little cheesy in a few places, and the Library was bordering on frustrating, but judging by the other games, it could have been worse. Halo 2 I felt was kind of overrated and HURR I AM DUAL-WIELDING SO AWESOME. Multiplayer was fun, though. I miss our gaming nights. Halo 3 I've yet to try, and I don't feel a huge need to. Half-Life 2 was fun. It's a hugely optimised engine and it plays smoothly. Not a fan of the deathmatch so much, but I never have been. I liked the story and still hate barnacles. Goes with Episodes 1 and 2 too, but they're not as good as the first. Some of the lines and set-pieces are pretty good, though. Portal was fun because it's new and exciting and slightly deranged. Team Fortress 2 is fun. I never played the original, but I love the sort of 1960's vibe. There probably isn't a 1960's vibe, but that's what the matronny announcer makes me think of. And the art style of some of it. And the cheesy one-liners. Despite all of this, my heart belongs to Unreal Tournament. I prefer the fast pace, even if UT3 has dropped the ball a little. Also: instagib. Also: If anyone is interested in a copy of HL2 through Steam, I have a spare copy I got when I bought the Orange Box. PM me, I suppose. |

I misphrased that. I want to actually have a fear of firearms, and to have respect for them. When I'm using a pee-shooter and getting shot at with a pee-shooter, that dies. In Halo, I can respect my firearm as powerful. I respect the Covenant weapons as powerful. In Call of Duty, same thing. In Splinter Cell, which isn't about feeling powerful, same thing. |
