"It is also true that his hair had a reddish tinge and, as everyone knows, no one with red hair can ever be said to be truely handsome." - Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

I couldn't find the essential reading list thread or whatever thread it was that one of you (I want to say NRE) recommended this book so I made a new thread (feel free to merge if any of the mods wants to find the old thread).

But I take back everything I said about women not being able to write fantasy. This thing is amazing. The book is fantastically writen, the envioroment is engauging, the magic believable, the characters are deep and complex. And what a weighty tome! 782 pages! Retailing at less than £18 - in hardback!

I hartly recommend this book to anyone interested in the fantasy genre and would very much like to discuss the book at length with those who have read it.

I myself have only just started chapter 22.

Oh, and Happy Crimbo all.
