Well, a friend and I had a very ... deplorable ... conversation. Normally, I wouldn't even make a topic about something this ridiculous, but I never gave this much thought, and its starting to fully sink in how gruesome some forms of capital punishment are, and how hideous it would be to receive such treatment.

Above, I've listed some of them we discussed, and maybe you can tell me which you think is worse to possibly experience as a way to die ... More than anything, I made this just to get it off my mind, so I apologize for the randomness. I hope I never have this conversation with anyone again...

I am going to cover my eyes now and try not to think about what may have happened to me in 1050 AD if I called my Nations leader an "Asshole." :ph43r:

Probably nothing. In all liklihood you would never meet him, and he'd certainly never hear what you said.

Unless you meant to his face, in which case it would vary greatly depending on where you were.

Strangulation: Too easy of a death
The breaking wheel: I'd love to see the public verison
Buried alive: Easy and installs fear before death
Guillotine: Too quick
Crucifixion: Kind of sacreligious but could be fun
Drawing and quartering: A personal favorite
Buried alive: See #3
Hanging: A classic
Burning at the Stake: Don't forget the sauce
Impalement: One of my personal favorites
Lethal injection: Again too quick
Disembowelment: Too honerable
Starving: Too easy
Hypohydration: Same as strving

I'm going to say Impalement because if you hit them just right they'll live for weeks.

I said burning, though not necessarily at a stake.

Crucifixion, I think, is the worst sort of punishment I've ever seen. You almost get a little bit of everything from it, starvation, blood loss, excruciating pain, and a slow death. Sounds fun, doesn't it?

I voted for that too. In addition to what Scy said, crucifixion in the Roman Empire was specifically designed to mark its subject as less than human. Roman citizens were exempted from it. Only slaves and the most despised folk in the provinces were eligible for it.

I agree. Good enough for the Romans...well let's just say it's not a fun way to die.

And CE, youm might not even feel a thing if you're burned at the stake. The nerve endings can be destroyed.

Burning at the stake is better than getting your head chopped off.

Why??

Because everyone knows a hot steak is better than a cold chop! Wowowowowowo

Nyuck nyuck nyuck!

That seems very unlikely until your already in so much pain you'd wish you just strangled yourself with your own trousers...

Personally, I'd say being hanged, drawn and quartered would be the worst to experience.

The idea of being hanged by the neck until your almost dead, being disemboweled, having your *censored* burned while your watching, and then being beheaded and cut into pieces...

... Do the math...

Whoever voted for lethal injection makes me sad... Lethal injection is generally considered one of the more humane forms of capital punishment. Are you seriously telling me that if given the choice between being burned at the stake, being crucified, being drawn and quartered, or dying by lethal injection, you would choose anything but lethal injection? Seriously?!

Maybe they don't like falling asleep and never waking up again? I dunno. It is quite tame compared to the rest of these horrors.

I'd rather be crucified than broken on the wheel. By far.

To add insult to injury, you would be on the death row like the one they have in Japan, where the prisoner doesn't know when he is scheduled to die and therefore must live every day without knowing whether it's his last.

Personally, I prefer not to know when I am about to die.

crucifixion for sure, you can live for days on a cross. Hung, drawn and quartered can go wrong, and you could tip off the executioner to kill you before you got drawn and quartered. Just glad they got rid of capital punishment in Australia 80 years ago, not that i would do anything that required that...

Because you can't live for days on a breaking wheel?

Seriously. Crucifixion is a cake walk compared to the breaking wheel. At least you're the right way up until you die. Or upside down until you die. And not ridden through crap.

Sure, Crucifixion is likely to take maybe twice as long as Breaking. But why? Because it's a lot less f***ing torturous.

I think what he's getting at is the heat stroke or the suffocation aspect of Crucifixion, Nag.

Personally, I like to live happily and die away from death devices, if that's okay with you guys.

And you suffer longer. I'd rather die quickly on a breaking wheel rather than die slowly for days on end and in constant pain for that entire length on a cross.

Maybe my definition of breaking wheel and crucifixion is different to yours.

In mine, you're strapped to a wheel of a cart with your hands and feet jutting out of the sides.

The cart moves off. Your hands and feet are crushed as the wheel turns by the weight of the cart.

The cart goes through a muddy track, skanking you up as you move along.

You have your hands and feet turned to a bloody pulp and you get dizzy and dirty.

If you're lucky, your internal bleeding will kill you in a matter of hours. If you're unlucky, you die of dehydration or exposure.

Because people don't want to drive carts for days at a time, after the first few hours the wheel will probably be taken off allowing you to hang upsidedown until you die.

If your executioners are pussies they'll deliver a fatal wound to you before attaching you to the wheel - and that will kill you quickly meaning the wheel is just added torment.

Crucifixion, you're nailed to a cross and allowed to die of exposure or dehydration. So instead of having every bone in your hands and feet broken you get nails driven through them. If you're lucky, someone might stick a spear in your side.

Don't get me wrong, crucifixion is terrible. But breaking wheel is a crucifixion on crack.

[Edit]

My point being that the breaking wheel is basically the same thing... only with more pain. Now sure, you'll live in agony slightly longer from being crucified because you have less serious injuries (puncture wounds instead of crushing wounds)... but any thinking that death via breaking wheel is quick... is misinformed. Sure it's quicker than crucifixion but just about every method of execution is (unless you're from Raxacoricorfalapatorius). We're still talking about a slow lingering death here.

Only with the breaking wheel... I'd really not want to be rescued (just put put of my misery).

Ouch. Quick but grusome. That's probably the worst death... to watch.
