Umm...I was thinking about making a crusades RP. Interested?

Possibly. I have a few considerations in mind.

I play this RP which is alternate modern. Soon I will join Alberto's historical RP which is post-WWI. I'll also be playing another historical RP that is set in 1906.

So I'd like to play an alternate history set in an earlier period. I'd consider Crusades period, but I'm more interested in a later period than that. I would ideally like some time after the Renaissance but before the French Revolution. It should be alternate history rather than historically based in terms of setting. Like I said, I'd consder something else, but those are the conditions I'm looking for, in order to supplement the RPs I'm already involving myself in in the near future.

Could you link me to the 1906 one, if its up yet? I'd reserved Portugal with Will (assuming its the same RP)

I was considering 1600's or early 1700's for this alternate history. What do you think, RD?

http://z9.invisionfree.com/1906/index.php Yeah, that's the one Will has been talking about. I haven't signed up yet because I'm still working out which country I'm going to play.

1600s or early 1700s sounds great to me. Excellent period; early modern warfare and the changing intellectual currents make things really dynamic. I'd be glad to play in that period.

I'll get started on launching it this week. Though, I'd still like some opinions on whether or not this should be NS based. Any input would be appreciated :D

Well, I'd prefer a rough province system like the ones we tried out with some of the games a few months ago, but naturally you should wait for others' input

I'd rather not have the NS system because I don't want to import the relatively static power hierarchies from our forum into a different game.

I've joined the 1906 game, and look forward to a Crusader game in the near future.

Crusades? Rats. Looks like that may end up being the era I make then.

Though I generally tend to prefer renaissance and afterwards, because before those times strong nation-states did not exist (which changes the dynamic of the RP dramatically).

Well I just sked (skimmed+read=sked) the previous posts and picked up on the word Crusader. Any medieval era is fine by me, as long as I can be a heartless Venetian merchant.

Well right now I was thinking of a start in the 1500s or 1600s...
What sort of start date would you prefer, leb?

Even though I would likely stick to the Mediterranean region, I would like to be more tied to the wider world, which is why I prefer a post-Rennaissance setting over the Crusades one.

Would it be RL history, or could we have fictional nations?

I wanted it to be like the games earlier in this thread, where we could make our own nations or use real ones. What do others prefer?

I'm assuming fictional would be what most of us want.

Though, I don't want to start this one without some sort of concrete rules and regulations established beforehand. That's the formula for failure.

Build a forum, and we'll work out some rules and stuff before getting started.

I'll have one launched in a couple of days. I'm a bit busy from 6:00 today until Wednesday afternoon.

I'll probably be busy from Wednesday through late Thursday, but I should be able to help with rules and such after that. Perhaps if someone is willing to create a new forum earlier than Cerdone is able, we could continue this discussion over there?

I would support using the same province map of Europe we used in Empire Europe. What do you guys think?

 The forum is still there, but I've sort of re-configured it to focus on alternate history, not that there's much there... But I want a game we can actually start playing soon ;)

I lost the map we used in Empire Earth a while back, so that isn't an option. I'd prefer carving out land on a blank map anyway, using rivers and natural barriers.

Well we still have a link to the map that you modified there on Rex Mundi, but a new map with natural borders sounds great too.

I tried to look for some maps that fit your criteria that I would be willing to recommend. Here are a few to consider:

Europe:

http://wiki.alternatehistory.com/lib/exe/d...e_2&cache=cache

World:

THe second one is my favorite personnaly.

I'd also support staying in a localized region rather than the world, especially if we're going back in time.

The world was too big at that time.

I like the second one too. I agree that the world as a whole is probably too big, though some kind of colonization could be appropriate. But the second map is bigger than the usual European venue, allowing for a few more options, which is cool.

I think we go with option #2, and make only that land playable from the start. If its necessary, and expansion could be made to it later on.
