Oh man those were the days, back when all you had was the original Nintendo and Saga systems, this being after the Atari scene of course, which was also fun, ground breaking even. But man the Nintendo/Saga era was something else. A classic time when some of my most favorite gaming memories come to mind. I actually still have a working, original gameboy, with about 15 or so games I think. Now thinking about it I have a good many consoles (from Atari up) that actually still work, well the Atari needs new controllers oh and I trade my PS2 for the Xbox360. |

I had the chance to borrow a Sega Genesis this summer (from a friend). He had around 100 games. I was deceived. Very few of these games were actually good. Super Nintendo had much more better games. |

Name me just 10 great Sega Genesis games. I can easily do that for Super Nintendo. |

The Sonic Series alone could fill that bracket in my opinion. Also, it depends on what you would consider a good game, since my tastes may not match with yours. Got a specific genre in mind? |

QFT. The DC was worse than the Xbox and GC (don't know the specs of the PS2 offhand) in terms of capability. But bearing in mind the features (ok, so the xbox has a harddrive and the GC memory card is four times bigger, but the DC memory card is a ****ing handheld!) I think it could have held its own. The Mega Drive RULED! Off the top of my head: 1) Cannon Fodder 2) Cannon Fodder 3) Cannon Fodder 4) Cannon Fodder 5) Sonic Series 6) Streets of Rage series 7) Phantasy Star II 8) ESWAT: City Under Siege 9) The Gauntlet series 10) Darius II 11) Lemmings 12) Jursaic Park 13) Golden Axe series 14) Mortal Kombat series 15) OutRunners 16) Aladdin 17) Alien³ 18) Frogger Of course, none of those games were console specific (I think) but my cousin had ~20 MegaDrive games and my old best friend had about 100 and there were plenty of good times to be had by all. Myself? I played a few classic titles like Sonic and ESWAT on my Master System (woo eight bit!). Given the choice between a SNES and a Mega Drive, I'd take the SNES. But seeing as I own a Wii and can thus play both SNES and Mega Drive games on the same console... I'm as happy as a pig in a candy store. (Again, I feel obligated to point out that I have twice as many SNES games downloaded as Mega Drive games... and a rediculous amount of 64 and NES games). And NRE, I still have my gameboy. And a damn sight more than 15 working games *snuggles pokemon yellow, worms and mario*. Hell if it weren't for my Wii and DS I'd still be playing most of my classic games - but pokemon's long been outdated, worms is new and better, orginal mario is on my Wii and the new tetris is infuriatingly addictive. |

Aye, majority of it wasn't console specific. Hell back then I don't think it mattered apart from the flagships like Sonic and Mario. But then, in those days there was a marked difference between the games depending on which system it played on. |

I nod my head to those who grade on graphics alone. Remember Final Fantasy X-2, anyone? Gameplay > Graphics. And for the record, I'll get a Wii. Sony and MS both blow, and innovation > Tech specs. There's my two cents. |

Noobs. And even the stuff that was company specific (like Sonic and Mario) wasn't console specific. You could get a Master System in '86 and five years later upgrade to a SNES. Why is this relevent? Well because the company specific games (Mario, Sonic, Metroid etc) were hella fun but the difference between 8bit Master System Sonic and 16bit Mega Drive Sonic was a matter of a few extra levels - due to the low technology level of the (cartridge) game play it wasn't worth upgrading from a Master System to a Mega Drive seeing as just about every game that was on the Mega Drive was also on the SNES and if it wasn't then there'd be a Master System version. Now factor in the hand held market - aka the Game Boy - and if you were a Saga fan you could enjoy most of the cool SNES games on either the Game Boy (like Zelda, Metroid, Mario) or the Mega Drive (Contra, TMNT, Castlevania, Mega Man). And frankly, we don't have that dynamic now. Third party software has been reduced from a staple of console gameplay to something warped and deformed with third party companies either pledging loyalty to one console (like Bungee), market the same game for all consoles ad nausum without exploiting the capabilities of said console (many Wii and 360 games are exactly the same, despite the 360 having a much larger physical memory (for save files) and a much better graphics/processor while the Wii's motion control system is relegated to a "novelty mouse") or simply market crappy games based on movies. What we need is less BS and marketing and a return to making innovative games. Halo on a PlayStation or a Wii. 3rd party designers who can actually design games for a touch screen or Wiimote (unlike Ubisoft). Sony not stealing all their ideas from Nintendo but at the same time companies actually ****ing trying new things. Nintendo making games on time and for serious gamers (think something like Red Steel... but better graphics... and storyline... longer... more difficult... better weapon balance... online gameplay... and I wouldn't expect to get that deposit back, if you know what I mean.) |

PS3 is better: 1. FREE online, that sold me right there 2. PS3 is more powerful (better graphics, dual cell processor) 3. I think their controls are easier to handle |

Currently, I'm leaning toward Xbox 360 for four reasons: - I don't want to be forced to buy a Blu-Ray driver when we still don't know who's going to win the HD drivers war; - I don't intend to play online; - I want to play some games only available on Xbox 360; - 100$. |

360. Its got a huge online 1-up on the competition. And theres nothing quite like sitting down and playing games with your friends no matter where you are. Your online Rep and Gamer points make large bragging rights. And in my personal opinion... a better game selection and better customer support. I red-ringed just before the Halo 3 launch. I sent the box in, got a new one a week later with 2 free face plates and it works like a champ. 3 year warranty. |

Internal Error on the 360. Basically your 360 dies on you and they have to repair/replace it. I had my 360 since it came out pretty much, and it only just died on me. Repaired for free. Edit: The term 'Red-Ring' comes from the fact that on the face of the 360, the normally green lit ring turns and flashes red on you instead. |

I remember a TV report about a kid and his Xbox 360. It "red-ringed" and was replaced for free, but the replacement sent by Microsoft was "rebuilt" (it used to red-ring, but was "repaired" by Microsoft). After a while, the replacement "red-ringed" again, and Microsoft sent another "rebuilt" Xbox 360 which after a while red-ringed again, and so on. His Xbox 360 was replaced something like 4 to 5 times. I hope the problem is solved now... |

Thankfully I have never had to deal with a red ring, but I know people that have to. Man that would suck. Also Mass Effect kicks ass btw. B) |
