Xbox 360 or Playstation 3?

I wouldn't even put it at a big chance. Y'all PS3 haters have called the race too early. I shall laugh when it ends up being successful (not neccessarily more profitable, but popular nonetheless). Xbox was attacked and doomed to similar failure early in its cycle too, and it ended up making second place in the last generation's console war.

 Good one Kas.

Seriously:

RD has spoken. The cause is finished.

And sure there is a possibility for failure (which I believe is slim really, but thats not the issue), but to think it would make Sony fold and shut down console production an design over one bum system is hardly realistic.

Well given that over 2007 more gameboy advances sold than PSPs... It's hardly one failure.

And this is the PSP, you know, the technically superior hand hold.

Of course I don't think it'll mark the end of Sony's gaming department, but when the PS3 flops it's going to need a major restructuring.

Wait... did I say "when"? I meant "if"...

Apples and oranges, Nag. The handheld market is a Nintendo fortess.

And I wasn't disagreeing with you...just RD. :P

 C'mon Kas, don't think I don't know your agenda... Final Fantasy 13 will be only on PS3. I know what's going on here :P

Yes, but the PSP debacle cost Sony somewhere in the ballpark of $1.7 billion dollars. The predicatable failure of a non-nintendo handhold isn't worth mentioning.

But not even Sony can afford to throw good money after bad.

If the PSP hadn't been such a resounding failure, then they could easily afford to release a PS4.

If the PS3 flops as well, then that'll mark the end of the PlayStation brand.

It almost certainly won't be the end of Sony consoles, but if the PS3 flops the gaming division of Sony is going to have a major shake-up followed by a restructioning and recapitalisation.

PSP is still hanging in there. It's often pitted against the DS rather than the Advance, which came out earlier.

No, the DS is the newer console.

The Advance is outdated (and the DS plays Advance games) and it still outsold the PSP in 2007. Sucks to be Sony.

The DS has raped the PSP. Mostly because it's a better console that's capable (though add ons) to do everything the "superior" PSP can do except match it graphically - and doesn't have a queer thumb stick.

Overall:

DS: 53.64 million units sold world wide (all models, since release on November 21, 2004)
Advance: 80.48 million units sold world wide (all models, since release on March 21, 2001)

PSP: 9.77 million units sold world wide (all models, since release on December 12, 2004)

Sucks to be Sony. Hard.

Last I checked, the DS was limping after the PSP. GBA may outsell it but it's better than the DS and has more time on it.

...

Over five times as many DS's have sold than PSPs.
The DS was released less than one month earlier than the PSP - wow... long time advantage there.
The DS is better than the Advance (it practically has an Advance built in).

The PSP has never outsold the DS - even on the first day of release - in any market.

I never said DS had more time on PSP. I said GBA had more time on PSP.

In anycase I generally hear (I dont play handhelds so I usually have no interest) PSP doing better than DS. Not saying I'm right...just saying thats what I hear.

Didn't found it back. I found the same things you found.

Some studios produce their DVDs exclusively on Blu-Ray, some exclusively on DVD-HD and some produce their DVDs on both formats.

The rational course of action would be to buy a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD compatible player. Alas, they apparently are more expansive than two separate players!

So now, the best thing to do is to wait and not buy HD players. One of these outcomes will eventually happen: a format will win OR Blu-Ray/HD-DVD compatible players will become affordable.

A PS3 can be bought CAN$400 (Blu-Ray player integrated) and a Xbox 360 can be bought CAN$300 (without the complementary DVD-HD player).

Since we do not know yet if Blu-Ray or DVD-HD will win, paying 100$ more for the PS3 seems a little risky.

On the other hand, playing online on Xbox 360 is not free while playing online on PS3 is free.

Now, I know I'd play online only if it was free, but I also know I'd not play that much online. That gives PS3 only a small advantage over Xbox 360 in that matter.

Damn, this is so complicated.

The online service itself is free. This means that you can download games (though they do cost money, but this is to be expected, as they are actually just small games in their own right) and new content for games. You can download movies, music, etc. In that way, Xbox Live is seen as widely superior to the Playstation online service. The only thing you'd actually have to pay for is for actually playing multiplayer.

To tell you the truth, they both suck, so does the wii.

watch this video, it's a humerous breakdown of all 3 consoles:

I'm for X-Box all the way, for all the same reasons as my colleagues here. The PS-3 price tag was a big f-you to a bunch of loyal fans. And when they said that they made that move "because people will buy them anyway", well, that was just egregious.

That video is both hiliarious and true. Especially the comments about the Wii (I learned the latest in the long line of dragon ball z game's controls by waving the remotes as if conducting an orchestra and singing Alouette) and the comments about how graphics can't improve anymore. And about how the PS3 sucks. :P

But hey, I love my Wii. I don't regret getting it over a 360 for a second. I just wish I had a 360 as well.

I see absolutely no point in buying a Wii when I can go to a friend's place to play with one for free :D

NE, have you played "Rayman Raving Rabbids"? This game is SO hilarious

I dont have to buy any of them (though I do want one, as I said..broke), being in college instantly gives you access to every system. So I'm good for now. ^_^

I've been thinking buying one of these two for Christmas (a gift from me to me), but I don't know which one to choose.

The things I know are:
- Most great third-party games will be released on both;
- Xbox does have exclusivity on games like Halo and Gears of War;
- PS3's Blue-Ray driver is a serious advantage over Xbox's DVD-HD driver;
- PS3 is more expansive than Xbox 360.

I like the following types of games: shooters (first person or third person), RPG and strategy (either turn-based or real-time).

So, knowing that, which console should I choose? (since I don't know, I will cancel my vote)

There is no difference between HD DVD and Blu Ray, I have both,

I see no difference.

I used to be a Sega fanboy back when they actually still made videogame consoles. Then they sell out to Nintendo. Highly disappointing.

I used to like Saga above all. Nintendo rules the handhold market so I always liked gameboys and the major Nintendo games.

Personally, as a Saga fan, I'm hella glad they folded and knuckled down under their Nintendo overlords.

Ahead of it's time. If it had gotten the 3rd party support it deserved, it would have lasted well into the PS2/Xbox/GC generation before it needed replacement. Alas, it didn't happen, which is a shame.
