I think that the "Byzantine Commonwealth*," (to borrow a phrase from historians), which I have left behind should be able to hold itself together as a cohesive bloc. *Byzantine Commonwealth is used by some historians to describe the common civilization and ties of the Byzantine Empire, the various Orthodox states modelled after it, and the states that at times were its vassals or recognized the Emperor as the paramount ruler in Christendom. |

Yeah and if was not for my friend Ajjeb (Actual RL friend) I would have been working on closer relations with Hispania, mostly because a. he hated the GTO (like I did), b. Hispania is a pretty cool country, and c. the day when I do some evil stuff involving JAUST I want some good strong friends to fall back on, and then menacingly laugh. But too bad that will never happen. If only it could have... it would have been a beautiful thing. ^_^ |

Currently... no... but a little further into the future maybe, once I'm done with the whole sham democracy thing... did I say sham, what I meant to say was a full democratic country that has no probablity of descending back into monarchy... ever... oh hey look a butterfly! *When everyone is distracted Draxis runs off* Hopefully in the future it will be a possibility/happen. |

Ascending. Monarchy is a more perfect form of government than democracy. |

Depends on the Monarchy, and the leader in control of it. some Monarchs were good and decent leaders, and others... not so much. Need I point to Tiberius (after Augustus) for a more messed up, weird, and strange leader. Seriously, his "little fish"... |

Oh you thought that just by saying that a monarchy is great that would piss me off and I would not comment eh'? I don't read The Prince at least once every three months for nothing. While I may not agree with you on Monarchies, they are a feasible form of stable government as history has demonstrated. And (waits for the shock and horror) with the amount of participation, and level of care given by the American people towards their republic they might as well just have a monarchy just so they can either realize why their forefathers fought for a republic and "democracy" (non-athenian model). Or just live with it. As I said it depends on the family, and the Monarchs in particular. Unless you go for a Monarchy like the one in Rome during the period of "The Five Good Emperors" whereupon the emperor was chosen by the Senate (who handled day to day affairs) upon the reigning emperors death. Now personally I prefer Republics as a form of government, but seriously when it comes down to it, either take good care of your government and vote/participate responsibly or get out of the government game and let the Monarch/Emperor decide for you. /end rant Now , lets get back on topic here and stop discussing governments. |

In our world, blood relation to the Emperor (also the head of Orthodoxy) is tantamount, no? :gnarkgnark: |

Yeah you did not... you walked right into my usual rant territory. Hell this week in Political Philosophy I've had to argue (as devils advocate) for Monarchies in certain situations (such as the one I mentioned) and for more or less what E wants. You picked a bad week for me + Monarchies. :D :D |
