Forget Ron Paul. Forget Hillary. Forget Obama, McCain, and Giuliani. Turns out Stephen Colbert is running for the presidency as both a Republican and a Democrat as a favorite son candidate in South Carolina :D Campaign Website Gotta love America :D |

If you saw his show, you would have known he was not willing to fork out the $10,000 needed to run. :P |

Ahhhhh he jokes, he jokes. Though if Colbert does run, I'd like to stick it to both parties, and vote for him since hes going to be both. How could anyone not vote for him though? Hes both parties, and a patriot, its like a double negative! ^_^ |

I read that he may run afoul of campaign financing laws, because his show automatically gives him more air time than other candidates. Apparently, running would require him to stop broadcasting his show... |

Technically, that does not apply to cable channels, but cable channels follow the laws so that someone doesn't sue them and get the law to apply to them. |

If it was serious he'd run somewhere besides South Carolina... This could hurt Ron Paul a lot, you know. One of the few states he actually could win in...the problem is, his supporters are the same demographic that watches Colbert. |

Ok, you guys gotta be joking right? For one, Steven Colbert is a television personallity. Just becuase he is well known people seem to want to vote for him, he is funny, whoop-de-friggen-do. He is a political SATIRIST, for that reason he couldn't be a true politician. Someone who makes a living making fun of the government could adaquatly represent the government. For those of you who actually think he is a republican, pay a little more attention, he is making of republicans, just like john stewart and the average comedian, he just does it by overexaggerating the rights point of view. I don't think there is a more liberal person running other then The hildabeast or Ubama. The only thing he'll do by running is mess up the vote. He has no real intentions of getting the office, he's just pulling this stunt to publize his new book. Marketing 101, exposure. This will hurt the election becuase it will steal votes from the seriouse people and could cause a major shift in the balance of power. A funny thing though, I think huckabee is going to win South Carolina :P Just in case ya'll are wondering, I'm rooting for Mitt Romney in this one. Huckabee for Vice, gangster. |

Colbert was trying to get on the Democrats' primary ballot in South Carolina. He failed to do so. Here's part of the reason: http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/06/oba...bert/index.html |

we aren't stupid you know. We know full well what he is and is not. Some of us prefer him over the current candidates anyway. Not saying me, but some of us do. Myself personally, gimme a centrist (though I'd settle for a bipartisan) over a partisan any day. Which I guess means forget the majority of the candidates currently in the running, Romney included. |

When this thread was posted... I don't think we even got the Colber Repor in the UK. But since I've found out that FX (that's the Brit arm of FOX for those of you who don't know) actually does play shows other than McGyver and Buffy during the day and Family Guy at night, I've been laughing my ass off to Steven Colbert. If he ran in my area, I'd vote for him... But I'd vote for Space Ghost so what do I know... |

We get FX here. It's like the high-action/drama version of Fox most of the time. |

We don't get FOX. And I don't usually watch TV when I'm in the states. (Well, HBO some of the time - otherwise I just channel flick.) I got no idea if our FX is the same as your FX. Or if it's the same as your Fox. Or if it's a mix of the two. All I know is that it's owned by Fox and that it's the best place to catch Fox shows. |

Yeah, I noticed that Sky have a lot of Fox shows. But we also get Fox News. And FX shows a lot more Fox shows than Sky 1 does. |
