In El Quir, the Peregrine had ended its run, the vast majority of RAID troopers landed safely. On the ground they had wasted no time in regrouping. Satchel charges quickly took care of many gun emplacements and anti-air positions, and air strikes were inbound. As the night wore on, the Sutekhs organized more successful reistance, and the Abnaris were hard pressed in the streets, until they discovered that the native Al Umman population was more than sympathetic to their cause. Able to seek shelter almost anywhere, the Abnari forces harried the Sutekhs from rooftops and windows before moving on to another location.

In the main battle, Sharif had called up more reinforcements. The Abnaris were taking a beating, but the line was holding, and the Paradisians were on their way. Bolstered by the thought of having the world's finest army in their side, Sharif and his men fought on with a renewed vigor. When the fresh troops from Abnar arrived, they would be ready to counterattack and retake El Quir.

Patrols of the El Ouir streets continued through the remainder of the night and the following morning. RAIDer troops whom had been found were surrounded and killed by the vigilant Sutekhites. Not a shred of the captured city would be allowed to be lost, not when everything in the planned siege of In-Salah depended on it. Thus they remained undaunted by the random snipings from various structures.

Colonel Gravha Sulath sneered at a road from a Sutekhite command post, being one of the many officers ordered to orchestrate the urban cleansing of the RAIDers. Every 15 minutes, soldiers would drive in and bring him reports of the battle. While they had succeeded in terminating a fair number of combatants, others were receiving aid from the citizens of the very city they had occupied. The generals had just issued him a new order to relay to the men on the field to deal with this situation.

A jeep drove up the road as expected and stopped, a young soldier climbing up and running up to him. A salute was given, and then a typical report detailing the random sniping attacks from various apartments and homes.

Gravha rolled his eyes. "Issue to your Captain this order... a city-wide scale raid has been declared by the generals. Each residential area is to be entered and the Abnari troops rooted out. Not a single place will be spared."

"Yes sir," responded the soldier, and he ran back to the jeep and drove off.

Within half an hour, the raid of residential areas began by numerous strike teams. Front doors were broken down and citizens horribly beaten inside while furniture was turned over in frantic hunts for Abnari soldiers. Wherever a RAIDer was found, he was subsequently overpowered and killed. As was ordered, not a single place was spared in the hunt.

Out in the desert, the Sutekhite flanking assault continued mercilessly. From both sides, they closed in on the Abnaris ever tighter like a vice. Jets overhead from both sides of the war struggled for dominance, keeping them distracted from supporting the ground. Eventually the jaws of Sutekh-Te-Ankh would close around its Abnari prey.

And the campaign against Al Umma would continue in greater strength as the 300 thousand fresh troops from Sutekh-Te-Ankh arrived in Ouargla. Most of them would be transfered immediately to El Ouir and then to lay siege to In-Salah beyond.

OOC: I'll wait for a response from my last post on the naval battle Abnar before continuing with it.

IC:

Lieutenant General Woods stood peering over a large map of the city and surrounding area of Taureg. He had gotten word from scouts he had sent ahead, those left alive to report back on radio that a massive enemy army was on their way towards the city. Up until this point the Confederates had a remarkably quiet time in the area with only minor intrusions against them from their rear. Now however the tables appeared to be slowly turning and a new much stronger forces was gearing up to stop them.

True to their honor however the Confederates refused to fear this new enemy and instead continued on work to fortify the city. Cars, buses, and traitor trailers were all used to cut off roads and create massive barricades. Artillery and tanks were positions in the most vital spots to exploit their capabilities to the fullest degree. The streets were cleared of all civilians, at least as most as possible. Those that were captured were either set back towards the capital in slave lines or were shot for disobeying orders. Many however, eluded the Confederates but would surely find their end once the battle began.

The weather was hot in the African sun though many Confederates joked that it was nothing compared to the Georgia heat many fancied back home. Barbed wire, gun mounting, and sniper nests were all setup and well supplied. The Confederates were digging themselves in thick. They refused to have come so far to be pushed back even if those doing to pushing were colossal in size. Though never spoken aloud some feared in the back of their heads that they were doing nothing more than digging their own grave.

Still they used that fear to fuel their hatred, hate for the godforsaken continent they were drugged so far away from home to fight on and for the godforsaken people who didn't deserve the treatment they were giving them. There was a mutual agreement among most soldiers and officers that the Seceded South should just nuke the place and be done with it. Still, like all good soldiers they took to their positions and began the wait.
__________________________________________________

Back in the Capital, General Morgan oversaw the last of the fortification processes. El Aauin was a much larger city than that of Taureg but this wasn't a challenge that the General could not overcome. Much like in Woods case, Morgan used everything the city could offer to build walls and checkpoints throughout the city. Camps were also setup in all the area green spots within the city to house the multitude of prisoners the Confederates were gathering from the conquered areas of the nation. In his office within a government building Morgan sat back in a plush arm chair please with his progress and amused that those godforsaken Sutekhites were having to slug it out while he enjoy a small moment of peace.

Al Umma Campaign, Western Front, Day 14

OP: STEEL ANGEL

Over the past thirteen days Confederate air cover had slowly been worn away by wave after massive wave of Paradisian F-247 'Scarab' air-superiority fighters. With air superiority all but secured, the focus began to shift from anti-aircraft operations to anti-ground emplacement operations. F-177 'Jackal' Ground Attack Jet Fighters kept pace with the F-247 Scarabs, quickly dispatching any anti-aircraft battery that attempted to engage the Paradisian fighters. Meanwhile, B-73 'Hyena' Tactical Heavy Bombers and B-41 'Desert Toad' Light Strategic Bombers sailed high overhead, releasing their deadly payloads over the Confederate-occupied city of Taureg. The raids continued day and night, and the huge amount of Paradisian Air Force personnel that had been deployed to the area ensured that there were always fresh pilots ready for another sortie.

OP: SOUTHERN SKULL

Field Marshal Khalid bin Sultan's armored command vehicle sat at the crest of a hill overlooking the city of Taureg. Confederate fortifications were visible throughout the city, although the near constant bombing of the city was evident. The streets were pockmarked with craters the size of small cars and many building had collapsed after being struck by Paradisian ordinance. Although, Field Marshal Khalid's forces vastly outnumbered those of his enemy, he decided to proceed about the invasion of Taureg carefully, as to not make martyrs of any more of his men than absolutely necessary.

Field Marshal Khalid ordered some of the Special Forces scout-sniper teams to infiltrate the city by night. Once in place, the scout-sniper teams would designate Confederate fortifications as targets for the guided munitions of the F-117s, B-73s, and B-41s that were flying high overhead. The teams would also utilize their silenced rifles to pick off the commanding officers of the Southern contingent in Taureg one by one. Field Marshal Khalid hoped that the combination of round-the-clock surgical air strikes and the assassination of Confederate officers would mean that when the Paradisian forces finally swept into Taureg in full force, they would be met by a disorganized and demoralized foe whose lines would quickly crumble to dust before their advance.

Al Umma Campaign, Eastern Front, Day 14

OP: CONSTANT PALL

Field Marshal Saleh al-Muhaya's forces were within sight of El Ouir. The Abnaris had informed him that Abnari airborne troops had already been inserted by night into the city. Field Marshal Saleh had advanced toward the city at a faster pace than he had thought possible but he still feared that he would arrive to late to save the brave airborne commandos.

Reports from the Western Front indicated that air superiority was almost in hand. The situation on the Eastern Front was quite different. The Sutekhites constantly battled Paradisian fighters in the sky. There were signs that the Sutekh Air Force was being stretched to the breaking point thanks to the Madinian bombing runs over Eastern Sutekh-te-Ankh, however the Sutekhites fought to the death and casualties were mounting on both sides. The most that could be said was that Paradisian fighters had been able to keep Sutekhite aircraft from harrying the Paradisian ground forces as the hurried toward El Ouir.

Field Marshal Saleh had devised a plan that called for a vanguard of heavy tanks to clear the area surrounding El Ouir and protect the lighter armored vehicles and troop transports until they reached the city limit. Paradisian anti-aircraft vehicles and mobile anti-aircraft emplacements would be strategically placed behind the front lines, as to turn the massive dogfight that still raged over El Ouir in favor of the Paradisian pilots. Meanwhile, Paradisian infantry would go about the gritty, bloody task of clearing the city, block by block, building by building. Although certainly not a simple one, the task was one that they had trained for extensively on bases within Paradise. Their training was about to be put to the test.

Field Marshal Saleh al-Muhaya called out to all Paradisian forces in a short, but stirring address in Arabic via the command vehicles radio transceiver, then issued the go-codes that would put his plan into action. The battle had been joined.

OOC:
I'm terribly sorry I've been unable to post in so long. I've been busier than all hell recently. Now, however, I should have some time to devote to this RP and look forward to completing it.

Ahmed’s stomach lurched as the stench hit him. It was the unmistakable odor of rotting flesh and by the strength it, Ahmed could only guess how many bodies lay decomposing on the dunes. Ahmed ibn Ata had been leading his flocks and family westward for nearly a month now, fleeing before the horrible onslaught of the Sutekh hordes. And he had seen more in that short time than he ever wanted to see. Whole villages raped and slaughtered. Thousands of typhus infested Qosh-Mahdist soldiers heaped in trenches with their throats slit. Refugees, now numbering in the millions, dying in droves of dehydration, disease and utter exhaustion as they fled northward to Romania or Eastward to Abnari and Paradisian lines. Yesterday he had finally passed through In-salah and had finally believed that they had reached safety. Death and bloodshed had reached even to the deepest reaches of the Umma it seamed. Ahmed shook his head. He could not understand why Allah could let this happen to his faithful ones. “But I am man and Allah is Allah.” Ahmed thought to himself. “His ways are greater than our ways. Alhamdililah! Allah be praised!”
Ahmed told his youngest son, Mahmoud, to watch over the flock and then called for his other sons to grab their shovels and follow him. Just as flocks always needed tending and clothes always needed mending and children always needed the rod for their transgression- so the dead always needed to be buried, lest their discontent spirits haunt the earth. It was a fact of life.
As he approached the small putrid smelling cluster of mud huts, Ahmed guessed that it must have been the work of a Sutekh raiding party. Scores of bodies lay crumpled on the ground outside the huts and bullet holes riddled the thick mud walls. However, as his sons began to drag the bodies into a pit for burial, they realized that all of the dead were male, and what is more, almost all of them were heavily armed. Ahmed thought it strange that men of such a tiny village should be have so many weapons at even in times such as these. The blood-spattered interiors of the clay huts were scenes of horrible violence. Rows of men dressed in luxurious clothes lay in neat rows, laying in their own blood as though they had been machine-gunned in their sleep. Others bullet-riddled bodies embraced each other in violent death grips, ripping at each other’s throats with their hands. It was as if the entire village had arisen one night and began to slaughter one another. The innermost chamber of the largest hut was by far the scene of the most gruesome violence. Bodies were stacked on top of the other, riga mortised muscles straining in ghastly death grips. Blood and bullet holes adorned mud walls and ceiling. Red soaked knives and scimitars dully glistened dozens of dead hands. And there in the center of the hellish carnage upon a bright green plastic stool sat a headless corpse dressed in a blood drenched white robe. And upon his hand the corpse wore a brilliant golden signet ring proclaiming for all to see in shining platinum: “Mohammad Numair the Ever Victorious, Qosh-Mahdi of Allah’s Faithful Ones."

In El Quir, a few RAIDers remained hidden, and kept the Sutekhites searching while larger plans unfolded. Fresh troops had been streaming in from Abnar as quickly as possible, most landing at a hastily set-up staging area to the south of the Sutekh lines. Sharif, back on the southern front, issued a string of commands into his radio. Instantly, his line pushed forward into the Sutekhs while fighters streaked up from the south, and behind them, a fresh wave of troops. The Sutekhs were caught in the middle, while the Paradisians secured the city.

El Ouir's status as an occupied city may soon come to an end. That was the fear of the Sutekhites, at least. They'd ensure then that that would not happen. All efforts on fortification of the city and street patrol were to be doubled as the waves of Paradisian and Abnari troops came in from both flanks. The RAIDers were still a problem, and a new order for the city-wide hunt for their positions was issued from the Sutekhite headquarters.

"Begin mass exterminations of the citizens," said Colonel Gravha Sulath, relaying the general's orders to his next messenger. "Every citizen that does not cooperate is to be killed immediately. The more the deaths toll, mounting the stack of corpses, the faster we bring our hidden enemies into the open."

"Yes sir," was all the young Sutekhite soldier had to say before carrying on the orders elsewhere.

Colonel Sulath sneered. This city would remain under Sutekhite control, even if they had to kill every single person that stood in their way. He stepped back into the headquarters, curious of what word had brought from the front lines defending El Ouir's perimeter.

Guns blared along the limits of the city as the allied enemy forces moved in. Both the Abnari and Paradisian forces stabbed in hard and the Sutekhites struggled to keep their ground. In several sections, the brave warriors of the Pharaoh had been forced back to establish better areas of defense, allowing their enemy access within the city. Overhead in the skies, the Sutekhite Air Force would continue its fight to establish dominance, refusing to back down from its righteous cause.

However, the only true hope the Sutekhites in El Ouir would have would be the hundreds of thousands of fresh soldiers due in from Ouargla. For now, El Ouir would have to hold out long enough for their arrival.

Arise faithful ones! Arise and prepare for battle! For the day of reckoning has come and the forces of Satan are upon our doorstep! Arise fathers! Arise brothers! Arise sons! Take up your weapons and fight! For these beasts will show no mercy. They shall pour over this land like locusts upon a field. They come not to gain land or wealth. They come to kill, to rape, to pillage and destroy. They will sell our children as slaves and our wives as whores. Arise oh faithful. Fight for your souls! Arise all good muslims. Come to In-Salah and join me to defend our people and avenge the Qosh-Mahdi. For I tell you the truth. Since the days of Mohammad himself, there has never been a holier cause than this!

-General Al Samh from his camp behind Abnari lines at In-Salah

Hear me oh faithful ones! For I bring you the most grievous news. Muhammad Numair, Qosh-Mahdi of al-Umma, has been slain! Lower your heads and weep! Tare your clothes in mourning! A noble star of the heavens has fallen and, lo, even the angels cry out in sadness! For with this star has fallen a nation. The coast is too terrible to fathom. Hundreds of thousands of died. Million are homeless. Foreign armies both Muslim and pagan stalk our lands like hungry lions spreading carnage and waging war. And now we are left with no one to look to for guidance. Faithful brethren! I have had enough of war! I have had enough of death and bloodshed! Do not listen to warmongers such as Al Samh who seek after destruction. Let us give up our arms in the name of peace and pay reparations for this terrible war. Then and only then shall peace reign upon the desert.

The bombing of Taureg was not unexpected but did leave little of the city left worth defending. Having drawn their line in the sand, Lieutenant General Woods and his men sat waiting for the enemy to come as they relied on anti-air batteries (those left) to deal with the Paradisian threat overhead. Confederate aircraft were also in the area and though greatly outnumbered their work was certainly worthy of note. Still when the snipers began to fire and take out some of LG Woods aids and officers, he soon ordered most of the command crew underground for their own safety. This certainly limited their ability to command but he also kept men alive to command the Confederate forces in the area.

OOC: Apologies for the double post.

IC:

"DAMN!" said General Morgan as he slammed his fist of his desk. It was the first time since the General had seen any excitement in the capital city of El Aauin. An aid who had overheard the commotion came in.

"Anything I can do sir?"

"No, there's nothing anything can do now soldier" said the General highly disappointed. "Word from Wilmington is that a drought has killed off almost all our food supply back home. What little we can import through second line channels is barely keeping the people back home fed. Point is there are no supplies left back home to send here for our boys. So it's either we stay and starve or we go home. An that's an option we don't even have since the boys back home have already decided for us."

"We're going home sir?"

"Yes, soldier, we're being forced home. Send word to Woods to bring his troops home. Inform the Admiral that we will be boarding troops and supplies back onto the ships within 48 hours. Have all men currently not fighting to make their way back to the ships first. Have all units engaged with the enemy to fall back gradually. We'll leave, but we won't run home as if we're scared."

"Sir, yes sir"

It was a sad truth, and many of the soldiers were highly disappointed. They had fought brilliantly in the Sutekhite homeland to gain victory and now, when many believe another victory was even closer, one against the Muslim world's greatest power no, the world's great power... they were being forced home. The withdraw of troops was slow as non-fighting personnel were taken away first. Troop transports had to battle rough seas and the constant worry over enemy ships firing on the blockade.

It would take Woods, who was under fire from the Paradisians at least two days to make a safe retreat back to the capital. His men and General Morgans who were also engaged in defense maneuvers had to make careful retreats all the way to the sea. The fleet aided in the retreat, blasting at the shoreline with all their might. Explosions rocked the capital city, a final farewell to the African country from the Confederates.

When the last transport came aboard, the Admiral made a calculative leave of the area, making sure to guard those ships who have taken damage from enemy ships. The Seceded South's government would never admit to their involvement in this or the Sutekhite war. They had merely gone to Africa for military exercises in the rough, unoccupied wild of the dark continent.

The sad situation of it is that the Pharaoh's Legions would not have knowledge of the Confederate withdrawal until it was too late. While reinforcements moved towards El Ouir to fortify it from enemy attack, only the first reports through radio transmissions would reach Sutekhite ears about the drought in the Seceded South. Slowly it would filter through the command structure until the Pharaoh himself could be found cursing Horus' name in the privacy of his royal chambers.

Sutekh-Te-Ankh would have to stand on its own for its campaign of retribution against Al Umma.

When Sutekh-Te-Ankh's reinforcements had finally reached El Ouir, the conflict there had escalated. A titanic battle with the Abnari and Paradisian troops took place in the city's streets, the combat leaving much of the buildings in rubble. While Paradise's forces had superior training and arms, Sutekhite morale and determination could not be shaken. Their fight was a just one and sanctioned by their god, Sutekh, himself.

Nevertheless, the advance further into Al Umma's lands had been halted utterly. With the withdrawal of Confederate forces, the aerial dog fights between Sutekhite and enemy jets had grown more intense. The Sutekhite fervor for revenge against Al Umma allowed them to fight to the last if needed. But frustration within the officer ranks was felt, and this perpetual stalemate needed to be broken.

And inquiries for advice were sent back to the command offices in Sutekh-Te-Ankh.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pharaoh Sutekhahotep XXXII was not pleased with how his campaign of revenge against the heathens of Al Umma was not progressing as he wished. He had overheard the requests of advice his field officers had sent to his military command, and grew more irritable at each passing moment. A great and final stroke was needed, and thus he meditated on the situation.
The impending answer came to him in a vision. The great god, Sutekh, manifested before him and spoke his answer to the riddle that this war has created.
"Call back your armies, for your enemies are formidable," Sutekh said to the Pharaoh, his eyes glowing with a fierce green light. "You shall instead send forth a force that not even they can fight against. You shall send forth the plague that bears my Greek name and smite your enemies utterly."
In moments, the manifestation of his god left him alone in his private chambers.
The plague, he thought to himself. Of course!
He stood up from his meditation and passed rapidly through his rooms and out into the hall where one of his aides was waiting. "Tukar, go forth to my military generals and command them to withdraw our forces," he stated in a strong voice. "Our enemy wastes our efforts and manpower. Once withdrawn, we shall send out an enemy they cannot fight. We shall send out the Typhon Plague."
Tukar's eyes widened in shock, but he did not dare question his Pharaoh. Obediently, he went to carry out his orders.
It took a number of weeks, but within time most of the Sutekhite Army had safely withdrawn from the Qosh-Mahdist lands. Their enemies would think that they had won, but nothing could be further from the truth. Most of Sutekh-Te-Ankh's forces were now either in Ouargla or crossing back over the Al Umma/Sutekh-Te-Ankh border to their homeland.
It was then that most of Pharaoh's Legions had withdrawn that the next order was sent out across the Exiled Kingdom. Every missile silo that the Sutekhites had developed entered a massive launch sequence. While Sutekh-Te-Ankh possessed no nuclear arms, it did possess something almost as deadly....
The massive stores of missiles were launched and made their short arc into Al Umma's major cities. Each one met their target with a rough impact and released the deadly organism that was contained within their warheads—THE TYPHON PLAGUE! Infection was quick, and it would ultimately be lethal. The disease had been cultured and modified by Sutekhite scientists from the deadly Red Plague from a decade earlier. No longer was the bacteria vulnerable to citric acid and only Sutekh-Te-Ankh's government possessed the single known cure.
The Pharaoh's revenge had at last been realized and his enemies smote by his great power. This would forever be known as a great victory for Sutekh-Te-Ankh.
