What's the administrators opinion of post bumping, if one has something genuine to add?

Bump away.

If you have something to add, feel free to bump a dead topic no matter how long ago it was last posted in.

BUT

Chances are, you won't be saying anything that hasn't already been said. If you post in an old topic just to say you agree or repeat anything that's been already been discussed (and this includes if it had been discussed in another topic) then people are going to be pissed off with you.

So... if you have something genuine to add - add it. But in my experience 90% of bumped topics were necro'd for no reason.

Thank you. That seems like a healthy medium. Some boards I've been on require you to start a new topic if you want to bring back an old one (Bumping is wholly banned)

Of course you realize moderators have the power in this forum to bump topics without even posting. So if we mods can do that, there's no problem with you guys doing it.

Only in your forum. Unless you're a global mod. Like you.

I use it in the following circumstance. I post something in a thread. Later, I want to post again in that thread, but I do not want to double post, so I edit the new content onto my old post. Now, since there is no new post, its probable that people will miss the new content. Thus, I use the moderator's bump option to bump it, as if I had posting something though I only edited my old post.

Non-mods may do the same thing by clicking "edit" on their orginal post, copying all the content, deleting the orginal post then pasting the copied content into a new post.

It's more long winded, but it's more or less what I'm going to have to do when I see you've double posted to bump a thread.
