Although I know quite a bit about history (if I do say so myself :P ) I do not know much about military structure. As you might have noticed I've been trying to refine my armed forces to a more "professional" system, yet there are many things that I do not know. My initial questions are these:

1) What is the traditional organization of naval task forces (i.e how many of each ship)?

2) What sort of patrols are usually employed by a nation at peace (Naval interdiction, no patrols, practice manuvers, etc.)?

3) How many fighters are usually held on each aircraft carrier?

4) How many submarines are usually assigned to a "wolfpack"?

Any other useful information, especially about naval and air force organization would be appreciated as well. Thanks for the help, I owe each of you one

(1) Ah...I saw a thing on the History channel on how many ships were in a carrier group, but I forget. But it's one aircraft carrier, a couple of destroyers, some frigates, and than a few others.

(2) No idea.

(3) You can find statistics on every kind of aircraft carrier if you look it up, probably.

(4) No idea.

Well well well. This looks like my area of expertise. B) I'll try my best not to disapoint.

1) This one depends. Carriers are the focal point of a task force. A screen of Cruisers and destroyers are needed to protect the ship. And at least one submarine. Of course, our world has more ships. So, I would say for every carrier, I would have at least 8 smaller ships, and 3 subs for an effective screen. This is a minimum figure based on RL experiences.

2) Usually simple boarder patrols. Use more troops along boarders where problems are rising, or tensions exist. For example, my boarders with Kasniya will have minimum guards/patrols. A simple check point and passport check kind of thing. Now suppose you were next to Al. You might want tanks, some fighter flights.

3) 12 aircraft per squadron. 7 Squadrons a carrier. On average of course. So that makes 84. This is for your 'average' carrier. Bigger boat means a bigger hanger bay. Which means more aircraft.

4) Wolfpack was a German term correct? Well, I believe it was anywhere between 3 to 5.

Quaon: Thanks for the advice, vague but well intentioned :P :D

AA: That's perfect, and yes wolfpack was a German term. The history of Gemany is the area that I'm most interested in, and so their terms might mix with general military terms in my head.

Wow, that's a lot. Wiki said that CVN-78 class ships only have 75. I thought that one was supposed to be bigger than other ones. What I mean is, what kind of carrier were you on, so that I can get me some. B)

Are you entitled to 15 capital ships?

Other than that, it's way smaller than mine, so I can't complain. :D

No, he isn't entitled to that. He has average spending and high military, so he should get 4 per billion. If he rounds up, he gets 12.

Well considering the fact that battleships are relatively obsolete in modern naval warfare i didn't think it would be a problem

Still, if you do not agree with this logic then as soon as you give the word I will reduce the number of battleships to one and finish construction on my 10th air carrier, giving me 12 capital ships. Is that acceptable?

Just asking.

And personally, I wouln't mind if you did have more battleships. Kasnyia has like 8 destroyers, but around ten billion battleships. It all evens out, I'm sure.

And then there's the whole 'battleships have been rendered obsolete' argument...

They're just floating artillery platforms. Not used for ship-to-ship combat anymore. They did that in the Gulf War.
