All right, after Kas freaked out on me and right down demanded I post this on the forums when I showed him this, I caved to pressure and went ahead and decided to post the image before I put down the cities.

I need your opinion anyway, so go ahead, cast your vote, post your comments/questions. I hope to hear feedback, soon.

Final Note: This particular map itself will be used in my 'Second Red Revolution' role play, the grayed out area is the surrounding area where direct conflict between the opposing forces will be unlikely, the yellow line is obviously the borderline of the conflict region itself.

The colored terrain represents a faction, in this case the Federal Republic (Eleytheria-Duo) is blue and my old nemesis, the Andrey Puzankov, is in Red. In a war with multiple fighting forces in a single battlefield, there will be several colors visible instead of binary ones.

As you can see, you might mistake the fact that the edges of the two merging colors be fronts, this is false, its only the territory controlled by that faction. I planned on using small colored arrows to designate a front line. If the opposite colored arrows are pointed at each other, than a front has formed, if one side is pulled away from the other, than they are either outflanked and being attacked from two sides, or in retreat.

From here you can draw your own conclusions.

Meh. It looks cooler than a paint map. But then the image is a little busy for my tastes.

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but there are massive rectangular pixel formations streaking across the image - which is hella uncool.

With cities... this kind of map might be a lot cooler. But as it stands... I'm pretty "meh" about it.

It's OK. (Not just another map.)

Yes, there are massive rectangular pixel formations streaking across the image. Aesthetically, I'd take a regular paint map over one like this. This just looks way too busy, although a little texture on battle maps could be nice.

Has anyone looked into using Google Earth maps as battle maps? Then we would even have the advantage of being able to get some idea what the terrain is like and using that in battle posts.

I like it...

But it's a bit confusing.

Is that from C&C?

No, its not from C&C, the *HUD* idea on the other hand was an inspiration from C&C, however.

Now to address other issues brought up...

To address Nags issue, that is a side effect I am getting from using large areas on Google Earth, there is nothing that can be done about this, I've tried. My only theory is that GE used high resolution images next to low resolution images that creates this 'Pixelized' look. My only other alternatives is to go back to a Bitmap image style map. If you have any website better for taking images of large geographical areas without that kind of distortion, I'd be happy to look into it.

Otherwise, it is a problem I cannot fix. If you are sincerely that concerned about it, you'll have to take it up with Google, not me.

To address Al-Araam's question, that is an image from Google Earth of Northwestern Australia...

To address NH's suggestion. *Sigh* Read the aforementioned... <_<

I think Pro has better resolutions. So if I had to guess, regular.

It's cool, but nothing to write home about.
