To prevent the spread of the plague, the nation of Velorya will longer admit any aircraft into our airspace originating in the continent of North America. Also, all ships with port in North America will not be admitted. This measure is taken for the health and well-being of our citizens, and is not intended to be an insult to the nations of that continent. Should the plague spread to other continents, similar precautions against traffic from those continents will be taken. --Official Statement of the Veloryan Department of Public Health ****** "We need a vaccine for this virus." The Emperor stated flatly to the men seated before him. "The state of world affairs is more delicate now, and we can't just militarize all borders and shoot everyone who tries to come in these days. We don't want an incident, not with Origenist activity on the rise." A tall man in a business suit stood up to address the Emperor. "Your Majesty, we already have agents in many of the infected countries, as per general policy. We could get them chemical protective gear and order them to capture a specimen, from which a blood sample could be procured. Then, we could ship it back here using our own transport to avoid residual virus. With that sample we could run tests and look for a vaccine." The Emperor nodded. "Very well. See to it that it is done, and do not delay. We need all the time we can get..." |

OOC: AA, I noticed when you posted Koval's little chat, he said he was how can he be a sample of the virus, are you modeling this character after a giant human germ? IC: The coastal town of Tavani was a beautiful place to be, located near the southern end of the Country the city was renowned for it's large gardens, great parks and coastal views overlooking their distant Great New France, which could be seen in the distance on clear days. It was a popular tourist stop for many, the French, the Kasnyians, the Assassins, even the Veloryans. A Veloryan priest had been there not too long ago to preach the word of God, quoting it was one of only a handful of the most beautiful and peaceful towns in the world. The peace would not last ... Bryan Lawrence, an infected kid who had just recently arrived back in the country, stopping in this town before heading back to his home City in the eastern side of the country. A week after his return, outbreaks of strange puss filled blisters and deep necrosis lesions, dozens were being rushed to the hospital for treatment of the deep sepsis wounds and convulsions, blindness, and paralysis. Local authorities thought at first perhaps chemicals were responsible, but then it became much more obvious that this was an infectious disease. The most troubling part was -- the Local Governments failure to report to the Federal Government back in Kugaaruk Headquarters. The plague had dawned itself on the Arctic Nation, with no cure, not even a clue how to solve the problem, and with the Federal Government currently knowing nothing about the situation, the local Government of Tavani was not only in direct breach of protocol, but was currently without any aid. The stage is set for the virus to consume the entire country ... Not a man, woman or child will not be affected by this plague in some way, not a one... --- To be continued --- Edit: This is not supposed to be public knowledge yet. So no party crashing. |

Francise Bugue had been many places in her lifetime. She was a banker in Quebec. She had been to Romania, Saxe-Coburg, Esternarx, Pascoag, Sahndaq, and more. She had gone down to Caronicallia a week ago to meet up with some people she'd met on the internet. She had had a good time. Two days ago she had heard about the plague scare. She hadn't particularly taken notice. She was healthy as could be. Little did she know that she was a carrier of the virus which was working its way past her immune system and infecting everyone she came in contact with. This morning she woke up and walked to her bathroom. She took a look in the mirror. Big black blobs were growing from her skin. She gasped. She was dead! Dead! Dead! She screamed now. She threw up. She was dead! Dead! Dead! She wondered how many people she had been in contact with since she had been back from the Reich. Counting people on the street....six hundred...seven hundred? They would've had the virus too and they would be spreading it and they would be spreading it and they would be spreading it and- She collasped. She was dead. |

KEHA had been all about, looking for those who were infected and summarily sending them to an emergency treatment facility in a thus far unused wing of Sao Tome Prison. They would be treated, Those who died would be incinerated at once, and once this whole epidemic blew over, a thorough cleaning of the entire island would be conducted. |

The Veloryan Embassies in the affected nations were left high and dry by the Emperor's decision to lock North America down. They quickly barricaded all ways into their buildings, retreated into the special bomb shelters underneath, and waited, hoping their provisions would last. Activity completely ceased in most of them, the Eleytherian one was the only exception. With the diplomats and spies sent underground, a group of agents in chemical protective gear and wielding machine guns began to sally forth nights to collect "specimens". People who may have the plague were abducted and brought to the empty embassies, where they were held hostage for a few days. If no symptoms materialized, they were set free. The Veloryans knew that the Eleytherian government would never believe that anything was going on in the seemingly empty embassy, and even if they did, they had more important concerns... |

Tann Ziel looked now like something coming straight from a science fiction movie. That's what everyone told them it was: fiction, a dream. None of it was real. Or at least that's what it seemed like in Tann Ziel. It was all sureal, how within a day or two you could come into contact with soem nice looking person, and then have your organs rupture and melt from the inside out. The city was dead, and it was broken. Luckily, the diesease was little spread outside of the city. The government quarantine that was implaced was relativley succesfull, and with the exceptions of some foreign countries, the virus was contained. Suspension of free trade with nations infected with the disease has been implaced, and in order to protect the Caronicilian people, anybody from those nations who is deadset on entering Caronicilia will be Quarantined and extenbsivley tested. If they pass examination, then they will be permitted to enter the nation and travel about freely. All throughouit Tann Ziel, an apocalyptic theme remained constant. Dead children began to pile up in the outdoors, entire city blocks were occupied by not a living soul. The Scene of death rung true, the scene of horror was alive. Armed gaurds protecting every exit and entrance of the city had a strong policy: if your near enough to be seen by gaurds, your an enemy of the state and will be shot on sight. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What was most frightening regarding the whole ordeal was actually those of several "special interest" groups in the military. Paul Luffendorf had pobserved the situation for sometime. He was a high ranking officer in the CNA, being at the rank of 3 star General. His history had earned him the respect of almost every militaryman alive, and he knew it. Even still, however, he seeked new ways to win. He had formed, secretly of course, the Unconventional Warfare Research and Development Sector, or the UWRDS. For sometime, Luffendorf had been observing the situation in Tann Ziel. He watched as the disease traveled, becoming an instrument of God's fury. People all over the world had contracted the disease, and still no immediate cure was found. That's why Luffendorf began to move the UWRDS into the field of biological weaponry. They would harness the power of microscopic death with ease, and the enemies of Caronicilia would one day feel it. He began to look for ways to make the disease more contagious, more painfully crippling, and far more lethal. He ordered soldiers into Tann Ziel in their protective wear with the warrant of bringing back bodies of dead infected persons, for the purposes of "finding a cure." The Unconventional Warfare Research and Development Sector would soon get the lead that they were looking for, and it would one day promise to be a powerful weapon for Mass Chaos- Luffendorf swore it. |

While the commotion was going on, a KEHA agent slipped a vial of infected blood into a special container, leaving the scene of the body incineration facility quietly. Later it would be determined that that particular agent had never existed before. A few hours later, in a compund in the middle east, The Cardinal of Jilla laughed maniacally. |

As of yet, Catholic Europe has no cases of this disease to report. However, all precautions are being taken and travel to and from the infected areas is banned until further notice. The toll that the Red Death took on Catholic Europe was a great toll that was not matched in much of the world. This new disease will not have the same effect as the Red Death did in Catholic Europe. I am saddened that I must announce this to the good Vetan people, but the government has gotten reports that upwards a thousand cases of this new plague were found in Quebec this week. This is highly disturbing. We cannot let this disease destroy our fair alliance. Therefore, effective immediately, emergency quaratine hospitals are being opened up in all major cities. Any and all who are infected or have been in contact with an infected person are urged to go there. If you are infected and remain outside, you will die and spread the disease further. We are working on a cure as I speak and will be able to treat people in the quaratine hospitals. You will be kindly and adequately treated. You will have access to communication devices and will be able to talk to your family and friends. You will recieve free lodging and food. Please, if not for your good than the good of the rest of Veta, check into a Quaratine Hospital if infected. -President Jason Essex of the Libertarian Alliance of Durick Veta |

City of Tavani -- Day 1 of the official outbreak of the Plague Tavani Liberty Square was bustling with people, the Civil war still recent in peoples minds, the Local Government was throwing a parade in honor of the Federal Victory over Andrey Puzankov's forces. Columns of vehicles rolled down the road and FS-1 Fighters performed aerobatic stunts overhead, citizens voluntarily joined in with the marching parade soldiers, singing the National Anthem of Eleytheria-Duo, 'Lead us to Unity.' Men and Women alike shouted the lyrics of their patriotic song: Rising over our mountains, Beaming over our hills, Illuminating our valleys, The sun rises once more! The Eagle in the Sky, Free from chains of slavery, Calling in the heavens, Soaring over humanity! In our world, Pray for equality, Lead us to Unity! For our nation, We will join our hands, Lead us to the light! While people were enjoying the parade, few knew or heard of the crisis the hospitals were having a mere two hours before, and with everyone in such close proximity -- tens of thousands of people in fact -- hundreds of people were becoming infected, and spreading it to others around them, soon over half of the crowd would come into contact with the deadly strain of virus. All in all, things went well, people had a memorable time at the parade and as the crowds dispersed after a few hours, the hospitals intake of plague victims slowly rose and rose... ------------------------------------------------------------ Six Hours Later People were now flooding the hospitals with large black and blue blisters and boils all over their bodies, lesions and deep puncture-like wounds all over them, it was now impossible for the Local Government to conceal this problem any longer, the whole city was in a panic. When Kugaaruk City -- the hub of the Eleytherian Government -- heard of what was happening, they were not only infuriated that the Tavanian authorities failed to report and control the situation, they also allowed a parade to go on and bring people in close proximity to one another. The order was given to quarantine the city, as people began to die, bodies began to fill the morgue until there was no more room left and dead corpses began to stack in storage facilities, most of the victims were under 20 or over 60 years of age. Meanwhile, over in far flung towns such as Reliance, Lutselk'e, and Yellowknife there were suspected signs of Plague, those regions were also quarantined and over 20 billion Phi's ware immediately allocated to medical research on a cure. All the available scientists that had any knowledge in health at all were allocated from technology development to cure development. The country was now in full swing to develop a cure, or at least an immunization drug, as quickly as possible and as efficiently as possible, the most advanced technology the world had to offer was before them, accessible to their most skilled scientists... ------------------------------------------------------------ Official Statement from Eleytheria-Duo "Our country now has clear signs of the Plague, we do not yet know the exact entry of the Plague into our country, but it is obvious that a tourist, perhaps Eleytherian or perhaps Caronicilian, entered the country infected with the Virus. We estimate that 100,000 people are infected, this number is expected to raise to two million within a month, mortality rate is estimated at 80% from what we know so far, we are officially shutting down our borders entirely until a solution can be found. If any citizen is seen fleeing the country, they are to be treated as criminals under the penalty of death -- this plague cannot be allowed to infect millions more, it is a disgusting breach of human rights we must take or we risk our neighbors suffering our fate. We urge the international community to leave medical research equipment as close to our borders as possible, special markers have been established along our territorial boundaries, you may deposit equipment there, Hazmat equipped units will collect the gear -- if you worry for money, you will be paid in full after the plague is over and our economy recovers. For now, wish us luck, and may God help us all. |

The Veloryan "plague agents" began to travel further afield as cases in Kugaaruk remained a negligent rarity. Their target was Tavania, where the plague outbreak began. Of course, with the Quarantine, getting in or out was not easy. However, these were crack agents, with experience far beyond that of such famous operatives as Marcus Corvus. They snuck in under cover of night, only having to kill one guard, whose body they took with them into the city to avoid detection. The body was dumped off at the morgue. Without hesitation, the agents abducted several Eleytherian citizens. Most were plague sufferers, but quite a few were possible plague carriers. Their blood was extracted and they were subsequently shot. The agents also broke back into the morgue and obtained samples from several corpses. They then vanished the same way they had come, right as dawn was breaking. They returned to the Embassy in Kugaaruk to await orders. |

Plague Blog: Day Two By Alexander Haverfield Day Two of Hell. That's what today is. Right now I'm sitting in the cafeteria of the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont. They converted the hospital into one of the quaratine hospitals. So, as you probably inferred, I've got the plague. I lived in Ottawa before I moved to Quebec to study medicine. Now I'm in this hospital, throwing up every few hours, eating this shit they call food, reading reports from the BBC and CBC. Itseems like the plague has spread across America. I don't know if it's gotten out of the continent. If it is, I'm betting that the Europeans will be the hardest hit. They have the highest people per kilometer ratio in the world. The CBC reports are saying that the plague has gotten into Ontario yet. It's gotten into Nova Scottia, though. So everyone on the east is potentially infected. They're saying that there are at least three million people infected in Durick Veta, with liberal estimates placing it at thirty-three million. I haven't gotten the bumps yet, or whatever the Hell they call them. I've seen a few people get them. The doctors-yes, there are a few brave souls willing to risk infection to help others-say that the virus has a long incubation period. Which means it's only a matter of time before I die. They say they're working on a cure. In the meantime, they're pumping us with anti-biotics. I refused to let them do that. I remember reading that the red death spread faster when anti-bodies were in the system. Assuming this is an offshot of the red death, that could be bad. The Doctor-Dr. Xavier, I believe, nodded. He's a nice guy. He didn't try and force the issue. A few of the older men, the French ones, who were alive when Canada still existed, think that the plague is really an Anglo-plot to wipe out the French once and for all. I wonder what they'd say if they knew I was Anglo. I don't look Anglo-my mother was French, I speak French, and they don't know my last name. Huh. I think it's snowing outside. I like snow. Too bad I can't go outside. President Essex has been doing a good job at dealing with this crisis, all things considered. So far, he's stopped the plague from reaching English Veta. He also had stopped this plague from killing as many as it could with the volutary quaratine program. What am I eating? I wasn't paying attention. Wow. That's never happened before. I know I'm drinking orange juice, but what did I eat. Oh. I remember. French toast. Overly toasted. I'm gonna go throw up now. If you don't see me post tommorrow, assume I'm permeantely away from my laptop, you got it? Alexander Haverfield AKA al5-88, signing off. |

Day 2 of the official outbreak of the Plague - Republic of Eleytheria-Duo It was now morning in the plague stricken City of Tavani, the Nations City that was once famous for it's lush, green gardens was now being slowly reduced to chaos by the plague, morale was extremely poor amongst the guards, and word had reached Kugaaruk City that the Governor of Tavani had contracted the Plague, along with his wife, and his three teenage children. Other Cities which had signs of the plague included Arviat, Rankin Inlet, Padlei, Reliance, Lutselk'e, Yellowknife, and Bathurst Inlet. The island cities on the other hand fared much better, not a single case of plague had been reported, and the islands were in total lock down from outside intervention. Kugaaruk, the Capitol and last major city that was fully functional on the mainland, was taking a huge risk by leaving it's gates open to travelers, however only 14 cases of plague were reported, all of which were immediately quarantined, and precious supplies needed to make it to infected parts of the Country, and the only cities which could supply their needs on the mainland were Kugaaurk and Taloyok. The strain was terrible, resources were taxed to their utter limits. Food was becoming more scarce as people began to stock up supplies in large quantities, barricading themselves in their homes, as if that was much protection ... the Virus had hitched a ride on peoples pets, then from pets to rodents, and from rodents to parasites. Although the frozen northern lands provided some protection from rodents and parasites, spring was here, and a population boom of rats, mice and other pests was under way -- as if that was not bad enough, Cities provided everything the common house mouse needed for survival. The Government knew that this would be a very real problem, pest control measures would have to be raised tenfold, and sewers would have to be cleansed as many rats as they could possibly find, not a job the average person would want to undertake. The Government also knew that warmer nations to their south, such as Durick Veta, may very well get hit harder, as the country has a much larger population in close proximity. The climate to the South was also more hospitable to common house pests, Eleytheria faced many challenges, the possibilities of mass infection of its own cities, and the possible influx of refugees searching for a less contaminated region to inhabit. (OOC: This is public knowledge, much like a Government Information release) KNOWN PLAGUE INFECTIONS: 176,882 ^ PLAGUE DEATH TALLY: 3,713 ^ |

-Kasnyian News Service International- -SPECIAL NEWS BULLETIN- The new epidemic spreading throughout the world has hit the shores of the Kasnyian Empire. Last night, doctors from the KEHA unit confirmed that an epidemic has indeed broken out within the Kasnyian province of Ziyer, where before the sitiuation was said to only be a few isolated cases. Vallisburg has declared a state of emergency, and for the safety of the rest of Africa, has declared a state of isolation and a stay on all trade until the situation has righted itself. Martial law is expected to be declared within the next 48 hours. As such, Viceroy-Protector Von Frohms has declared that he will not allow the rest of the Kasnyian Empire to be subjected to this hell, and will block off the infected sections of the province from the unaffected areas, including the heavily populated city of Vallisburg itself. |

"Bloody Hell, this isn't good..." The Health Minister Anton Nikkle uttered under his breath. "What are people going to think of Caronicilia? That we're some disease ridden animals?" He was angered about the situation, and with good reason to be. He had done his job quite well, with Tann Ziel effectivley cut off from the rest of the nation. So far, about a quarter of it's population was dead, but it was better then having a quarter of the nation dead, he decided. Still, the virus had been spread around the world quickly, like a wildfire. Meanwhile, the Unconventional Warfare Research and Development community was making some progress. In a dark room in Necro Ziel, a man sat in full cover to examine the virus samples he had obtained. He was to do two things: 1) Engineer it to be more deadly, and 2) Create an antibiotic to treat the new, deadlier version of the virus. He had a difficult task, and he decided on a solution to the problem. The disease multiplied rapidly. It's growth rate was incredible, every hour it's population multiplied by well over a thousand in a given population. Since it was so rapidly spreading, the chances of mutation were significantly higher then those of humans. He decided eventually that he would simply wait for an antibiotic to arise out of some foreign country, and use it to kill members of the population. He'd then let natural selection play it's part, and eventually he could hopefully build a population of the Bacterium even more deadly then before. One that couldn't be killed with known cures. And that would one day kill soldiers on foreign battlefields. |
