Furry, humanoid, rabbit beings. Big Long ears. Developed sense of hearing. Live in underground burrows initially. Herbivorous. Highly industrious, build lots of crazy cool towers out of the dirt, and tons of underground caves and whatnot. I've been playing that winter bells game just a little too much... but still, oh, and also, slightly shorter than humans. Fairly reclusive, preferring to hide in caves. Did I mention they were furry? Long ears!! Name?

Hmm, Pookahs, Pikians, Leporids, Lagomorphs, Comeys, Gomphisians (my favorite, a giant pre-historic rabbit.

Furling.

But I'm not adversed to Pooka... or Nox.

Jet black skinned, lizardlike people. Shiny black skin, slimy or wet, have tusks? horns? spikes? some sort of strange protusion? Live in wetlands? Trees? Jungles? Good with wooden weaponry? martial arts? Stealthy? Developed sense of smell with tongues like snakes? Kind of like humanoid salamanders? Name?

Mungs. I just like that.

Slann. Orochi-bito. Unas.

Slightly larger than normal human sized people. kind of like giants, but smaller? Good at seafaring. Physically strong. Muscular. Tough. Kind of like vikings. Good with metal? Better sight than other races, but not as "feely" as others. Tough, did I mention that? Umm... I dunno... Name?

Vikings, Northmen, Icemen, Nordlanders, Nieberlings, Titans, The Hunters

Valdaermen. Fenri.

Titans and Hunters also good.

Not orginal ideas, I know.

Just so you know, my idea is ripped off from Rich Burlew. However, I really want to play that race.

How about we don't limit the races to three? If someone wants all of E's ideas, but Q still wants to play with his "Chinese", why not let him? Of course, we would have to submit our customized races for group approval to avoid someone coming up with an uber-race that flies, shoots lazers out of its eyes, and is invincible.

Alright, I'm gonna be a dictator for a moment and limit the races to 5 absolutely maximum though. We can vote on which five exactly later, but for now, let's keep brainstorming, it can't hurt to think about this a little longer before we make up our minds.

EDIT: and just for the record, I like your idea for a race too Q. ^_^

I would like to see a species of sentient and mobile plants. They would have no eyes, ears, faces, and would essecientially be bushy plants, green and cloroform-based, CO2 breathing, Oxigen-exhaling, able to move on their roots, but able to place their roots into microscopic fissures in rock and smash, move, distroy, and even build in this manner. They would communicate through touch, so if a group had branches and/or roots or leaves touching, they could think as a unit (i.e., a forest that could move, build, think, wage war, etc.) They would be the plant equvilent of humans, evolutionarily speaking.

I would call them Florans

Does it matter what the point is? I came up with the idea for this, and I don't really want dozens of races, period. If you don't like it and want a game with tons of different races, then go ahead and make your own in a different thread. 5 races. That way we will be sure to put plenty of thought into a race before we just decide to let it exist.

This sounds extremely nifty. I had a race in mind, kinda like your traditional elves/gnomes, but not as medieval-fantasy-like. They're kinda short, with pointy features, a little hyper, more intelligent, big on machinery, and like flamboyant clothes. They're not a completely different race from humans, just a kind of genetic split a while back.

I like Q's idea, for a race, and the Florans, and Slann seems like a good name for those lizard-people.

Oh, also, what kind of time-setting would we be playing?

As long as we have humans, this is acceptable, out of complacency. But really, there is no good reason to limit races at all. That being said, your RP, your rules.

True, though the odds of any more than 5 parallel species evolving sapience on a planet get thinner and thinner. Actually, 5 is already pushing it, but realism isn't that important. 5 is a good number. Period.

No. Actually, none of them are going to be explicitly human. I mean, the viking norse guys are going to be very similar to humans, just much bigger, and so are your "chinese", just smaller and different in other ways too. But no pure human race.

As for Abnar's question about the time-setting. It will be in four phases. The first will be fairly primitive. The second somewhere around medieval. The third modern. And the fourth will be future.

So am I. You can read about them as I've just updated the front page with two races, the viking ones and the Florans.

What about mine? They don't have an official name-I'll devolp that at stage 2. But for now call them the Traders, the Travellers, or the Islanders.

To add to what E was saying, any sort of balance dynamic grows more and more difficult the more races one adds. Limiting the number of races is good in order to reduce unnecessary complication. I fully support E's decision to limit the races.

They won't be the only ones that live on islands, you know. They may be called that or "Traders" or something by other races that don't communicate with them regularly, but they need a name they use to refer to themselves collectively as a race. Something chinese or oriental in origin perhaps? Any name's fine with me though, they're your race, Q.

I know, but I want them to stay on their islands, away from the people. Perhaps the Zugwai?

Sure, I'll be sure to make a note of them being very isolationist when I write about them. Zugwai sounds fine to me. Until you come up with something you like better, I'll make a profile for them as Zugwai.

By the way, the technology referred to in the race profiles refers specifically to their technology during the second phase.

Races competing for the last two spots:

Zidd- what abnar was talking about
Furling (or whatever we're gonna call them)- the rabbit creatures
Slann (or whatever we're gonna call them)- the salamander ones

I think that's it.

What do you guys think?
