CLEVELAND ROCKS!
I love Avatar! Don't watch it as much (at all) at college  but back at home my brother would have it on and I would definitely get off my computer to watch it.....

*Goes to see if last season is online*

- Anime
- Countries bearing elemental names
- Ninjas
- Elemental powers (?)

Definitely, it seems more similar to Naruto than DragonBall Z... Has someone seen both shows?
Yeah, I'm a *huge* anime junkie. XD I've seen all three of these, and I never really counted Avatar as an anime because, if I remember right, it was made by an America cartoon company associated with Nickelodeon. It's like America tried to do their own version of anime (which they do with manga as well), and Avatar was the end result.

It is much closer to Naruto though, given that the main character in Avatar bears extra special powers just like Naruto. The only way I could relate it to DBZ is when Ang becomes this glowing being, just like when Goku and other saiyans go into Super Saiyan mode. But otherwise, I'd deem the two mostly unrelated.

Btw, anyone follow news about the upcoming Avatar live action movie?? It will be directed by M. Night Shyamalan and features a predominantly Indian cast, which is the result of an outcry against the all-white cast that was originally planned but deemed racist by fans. I would like to see Taylor Lautner from the movie "Twilight" cast for the role of Prince Zuko.

I dunno, Bebop was basically cowboys in space so it wasn't that bad to get into of course I can never catch the series from beginning to end so the show for me has always been one random episode after another but still entertaining enough.

But since we're on the topic of animated television do today's cartoons bother anyone else besides myself? Maybe I've just gone from child to adult and now see what my parents saw in Ren and Stimpy that I did not but today's animation for children just seem dry, un-evolved and lacking almost completely of any great depth of story not to mention greatly bordering what I personally would consider appropriate for youth.

Grant it I don't image that most kids animated shows should be Shakespeare but it just seems like when I was a kid the TV shows I watched were more appropriate for me, had better stories, and allow me to remain a kid for as long as that lasts. Certainly seemed better than what my niece and nephew are watching now.
You've got to be kidding, right? I mean, the PC police have made it all but impossible to put ANYTHING on TV for children because it might warp their little minds! Yet I grew up on Bugs Bunny (the good ones) and Tom and Jerry and Woody Woodpecker, and "Moose and Squirrel" and Beany and Cicil (a classic) and Tom Terrific (very spooky) and the Real Three Stooges, not the stupid cartoon! We had violence, war, fights, things blowing up that they wouldn't dare show in your generation! Yes, we are training the next generation to be more wimpy than your generation, if that is possible!
I can't stand today's cartoons. They seem so censored, like something that should have happened in a particular scene was really going to happen up to the last second until they edited it for the "younger" audience. The shows I mostly watched were my grandpa's old western movies.

To stay with the topic, I have seen Avatar. I watched the first few episodes, forgot about it, and then watched a few every so often after that. I have no concept of the storyline anymore. Unless of course its the same as it was at the begining.

New Series? I think you may be talking about Korra? I like it a lot, much like the originals. I have the entire first season on DVD

Just finished the second season of the Legend of Korra. I honestly haven't been this upset by the direction of a show in a very long time.

I used the word "Nimrod" yesterday while watching something on the news, and Don asked, "What or who is Nimrod?"

I always figured it was just some generic term for a looser. Anyone know why?

Ask the internet and it shall provide. Now baring in mind I have no scholarly works to backup my research, it seems that Nimrod is a biblical reference. Nimrod was the King of Shinar and great-grandson of Noah. He was depicted (and so his name came to be associated with) as a mighty hunter. Apparently in the 20th century, Bugs Bunny coined the term that we used today by calling Elmer Fudd a "nimrod," possibly as a sarcastic way of comparing Elm Fudd to Nimrod the Mighty Hunter. Elm Fudd being of course neither mighty nor a great hunter.

I knew of the Biblical character, but I didn't get the full connection until NRE explained it :)

Ditto, so thanks, NRE.

Back to the topic at hand, the first season of LoK was outstanding from start to finish. Second season - I could take it or leave it, and I'm probably gonna leave it for now. Maybe I'll do an archive binge once the show finishes its run.
