OOC: Whoa! Relax. Be calm. I don't see anything wrong with anything that's happened so far. The Amish seem to consistantly have the best internal stories this board has ever seen - I really wanna know how that turns out. You want a cool defence system? I see nothing wrong with that, you mentioned it really early on and left the details vague. I didn't agree OOC with you that I could spy on you, on this board or any other you're perfectly within your rights to say "yeah, I don't want you doing that". And in regards to Scythirus and NRE - as it stands, I don't think anything that's happened already is bad: I see it as just showcasing the abilities of your troops - building up to a bigger, cooler conflict. I was just getting in a pre-emptive "remember to play fair". Everything in moderation. What's been done is good. If what's been done turns into the only thing happening in this thread... then that's gonna suck.

****

Rachel DosSantos Emmanulas was running for her life.

The deserted city of Syntha Prime was generally considered to be a safe haven for the outlaws who refused to connect to the IDPs neural network. The city was a sprawling metropolis with literally billions of places a fugitive could hide. The outlaws could easily be contained in the city - a perimeter of Battle Drones assured that anyone leaving the safety of the urban jungle would be shot dead - but clearing the city of the rebels was considered an impossible task. Only it wasn't. It was merely impractical. The processing power needed for co-ordinate a sweep of the city to flush out the rebels was much better used elsewhere: it simply wasn't worth the effort and resources.

Mica Serio, age thirteen, was playing a computer game (in his sleep, as was customary in the IDP). It was a new release on the Neural Network. He'd had to compete against kids from all over the nation to get to play the beta before anyone else. It had been almost too much like hardwork... but now it was all paying off: the game was amazing. He was playing as a member of the Elite Infantry, his job was to track down Alien Mutants in a ruined city to foil their invasion plan.

Rachel ducked around a corner just in time to avoid the storm of razor sharp disks that would have cut her to ribbons if she had been only a second or two slower. A Battle Drone was chasing her through the city. The Drones themselves had simple processors - they were unintelligent and easily fooled - but a more sophisticated AI could control hundreds of Drones remotely, making full use of the Drones hardware to turn them into nigh unstoppable killing machines. But the sophisticated AIs of the IDP had more important things to do than hunt down a girl trapped in the prison that had been Syntha Prime. And if an AI was controlling the Drone, then why was only one chasing her? Why wasn't there an army? Hell, even if there were only two Drones chasing her, she'd probably be dead by now. But perhaps it didn't matter - the old fashioned pistol she carried with her...

Mica had to appreciate the AI in this game. It was complicated, but it wasn't perfect. It made mistakes, but it was able to correct those mistakes - at least so far it was able to stay one step ahead. The mutant he was tracking down was a girl who looked maybe five years older than himself she was quick, and she was smart but her weapons...

... had no effect on the Battle Drone's armour. It wasn't surprising, the pistol was practically an antique. The lazer beam it fired made the Battle Drone's armour shimmer briefly as the destructive energy was simply absorbed by the Drone to be used as power. Rachel knew that if she had an anti-tank weapon - or half a dozen friends with assault rifles - she could overwhelm the Drone's energy absorbing abilities. If she had a sniper weapon, she could overload a specific point in the armour, punching a hole right through the Drone taking out the central sensor or CPU. But armed with just a pistol, she was helpless.

The Battle Drone rounded the corner after Rachel and she saw her life flash before her eyes... only to find that her life was a lot longer than the nineteen years she had lived. The Battle Drone had not fired it's main weapon, instead it held a long cylindrical object in it's hand. Time seemed to slow down as the Drone drew back it's arm to throw the grenade. In a split second, Rachel developed a plan. As grenade flew towards her, Rachel lept into the air and caught the device before throwing it back at her attacker...

Mica saw the words every kid hates to see: "GAME OVER". He'd been killed by his own grenade. But he'd learn from that experience. Next time he played, he wouldn't lose.

"Billy?" Shouted Paul.

"What did you find?"

"Over here on the right. Jesse's gone. Something got Jesse!"

Damn, thought Billy. It's started. "OK, Paul, move left. Let's collapse the line left, and someone pass a gas can over to Paul. Paul, dump the karosine and hustle back here. Do it now!

"OK, Billy, I..........Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!"

The scream was piercing, and short! No one could see Paul through the Karn. Then, they heard the karn rustling all around them. "Now!"! shouted Billy. "Collapse into a circle, now!" People began rushing back toward him, and forming a circle around his location. Sam Case was the last one to arrive. They just saw his face through the karn, when suddenly they saw him "thump" to the ground, and just could see the top of his head as his body was dragged away.

"Karosine, now! Spread it in a semi circle toward the right. OK, Back up."

Billy took a match, lit it, and tossed it at the karosine. Flames shot up immediately. After only a few seconds, the most unearthly sound ever heard came from the karn. It was such a high pitch that it hurt their ears, but under it was a low rumble that they could feel in their stomachs.

Then, a huge green form rose into the sky above them. It shuddered, and waved tendrils around wildly, like a cucumber plant in high speed! The tendrils didn't seem to know where to go, but the instant they made contact with anything, luckily for Billy and company it was only karn, they immediately contracted, and crushed whatever they touched.

"OK, move it! Big circle, behind it. It might only be just one weed. Keep the gas cans pouring while we circle to the other side. We can trap it."

They ran around behind the screaming weed, and finally completed a circle. Billy pulled out a match, but before he could strike and light it, one of the flailing tendrils made contact with his left arm, wrapped quickly, and dragged him off his feet toward the weed.

He could feel it crushing bone, as more found his feet and legs. He screamed, at the top of his lungs, "Throw the rest of the cans at the weed. Dead center. Do it now.....arfh." A tendril had found his mouth, but he heard the noise of the cans banging the ground near him.

The tendril in his mouth was wrapping around his teeth, even as he tried to bite at it. Then he heard the teeth breaking, and felt tendrils go into his ears. Luckily, his right arm was still free, and he could smell the karosine until a tendril found his nose. Then, he could just smell carrots.

He was lifted up, right next to the weed. He could still see. He didn't delay. He reached out, and struck his match against the thick tree-like hide of the weed, and dropped it. Flames shot up immediately, and the screams from the weed became even more piercing, but the tendrils were letting lose, just a bit. Then he felt the flames reaching his own, cruched legs.

What he saw next, the last thing he would ever see, was unbelievable. A bump grew quickly on the site where he struck the match. Within a second, it was the size and color of the prize pumpkin from last year's fair, then it burst, and several stalks began to grow, rizing rapidly above the fires. Each stalk began to develop into what looked like heads of brocolli, and were as big as his own head within another second. Then, each bump on the brocolli-like head burst into a bright orange flower, which spewed pollen instantly. Oh my God! he thought. It is reproducing, and way too fast!

Only four seconds had gone by, and he was losing conciousness from the heat, and the tendrils were still ripping at his internal organs. He looked down, and saw the wood of the weed's trunk was smoking, and starting to burn, but not fast enough. He looked back at the flowers, and in an instant, each shot out hundreds of seeds, each light and featherlike, like a cottonwood seed. They began bursting into flame as soon as the heat got to them, but many, way to many, just rose into the air being carried by the updraft of the fire. They would spread for miles, Billy thought. Then, he thought no more, and both he, and the weed began to burn.

OOC: I don't wanna step on any toes here. This is the AU forum. We're RPing the future. This is your chance to let your imaginations run wild. But I'm going to remind people to play fair. There's nothing wrong with lazers or robots or mobile suits. But if this devolves into a five year old's game ("I shoot you and you die", "No I don't I'm bullet proof", "Yeah well I shot a lazer not a bullet", "OK but I can come back from the dead") then I am gonna have to lock and archive. There is nothing wrong with making stuff up on the spot. It's cool. I don't want to kill the story by making you plan everything in advance. There is nothing wrong with having cool technology and gagets. Again, that's the point of RPing the future. Just try to keep things reasonable. "I shoot you" works better than calling the shot: your supersoldiers are no more unstoppable than your enemies supersoldiers (unless you've agreed otherwise). If you have a technology that would save the day, you don't have to use it straight away: retreating to come back later with your newer, cooler weapons works better than saying you had them with you all along.

Yeah, this is most likely in reference to my post and I do apologize for my behavior on the subject, it was a rushed post to begin with and looking back I should have taken a different direction. If Scy is ok with it I'll let it stand, but if not I have no problem changing it for the sake of setting a good example throughout, plus in reality there was a different direction I was thinking of taking in the first place but opted out because of personal time restraints that I had when I was writing the reply.

OOC: I'll let it pass. For now.

OOC: I decided to take it as a lose anyhow and have changed my post accordingly. One reason being it was a cheap shot and secondly because it gives me the chance to deal you a blow with a weapons I've been alluding to throughout the course of much of my Commonwealth posts. I'll have Nor change his post to match my new ending and then we can go on from there.

The Zermatt Crater, located in the middle of the Swiss Alps, was the lowest place in Europe, over 800 feet below sea level. Rising to their great hieghts right next to the crater was the Matterhorn, and Mt. Rosa, making an over 20,000 foot rise in just a few miles from the lake at the bottom of the crater. No one knows what created the lake, but the extremely ancient talk about an old war, and weapons of incredible destruction.

The basin of the crater holds one of the most diverse animal populations on earth, including the Blackcap, Sylvia atricapilla a migratory species that used to winter in Central Europe, but now finds the warm, green valley of the crator an ideal nesting place, before summering in Britain.

This summer, the Blackcap was following the Rhine on it's annual migration when they ran into a most unusual food source. Seeds, carried on the breeze that they found irresistable! The seeds were incredibly rich in oxidized amino acids, and every "crunch" of a seed casing threw the birds into a delirium. The entire flock changed direction, and searched for the seeds. Of course for each seed casing they broke open, they found another to swallow. In a few days, they would pass, undigested, through their little bird bodies, and be scattered all up and down the Rhine, and all the way to the British Isles.

Meanwhile, several clouds of seed were floating on the prevailing winds. Some were setting in Russia, others found their way into the Zermatt Crater, where already some of the strangest life-forms already live.

OOC- I hope it's not too late to join in. Here's some of my idea for the future Sahara.

African Sahara in the Future Epilogue

The Sahara Desert is a massive, desolate dystopia that has only grown more vast and oppressive through time. Due to the wonton deforestation of past generations, this waterless wasteland had grown to encompass nearly all of North Africa from the Congo to the Mediterranean. Fallout from the nuclear duels of warlords and Mahdis long forgotten has drenched the desert in radioactive dust resulting in myriads of cancerous tumors and blighted children. Bandit hordes roam the waste like their ancestors before them, but instead of being mounted on camels and armed with scimitars, they ride antigrav speeders and wield laser rifles. Pious holy men and mystics rouse the devout populous in bloody jihads against one another. Nomadic herdsmen trudge from one oasis to next, though the desert has become so perilous that many now travel in armored sandwalkers. A few struggling city-states ruled by aged oligarchies struggle to survive by trading rare minerals and exotic luxuries with the few merchant lighters that still care to touchdown on their crumbling landing pads. The modern armies of the surrounding nations, especially the Catholics to the south, must constantly subdue chaotic bands of sandblown bandits and religious fanatics seeking to plunder their luscious lands. But to most who inhabit the desolate waste, the world outside the reach of the dunes remains mystical and surreal.

Councilor Davis left the Devron system a pleased man. The progress that Prefessor Feller had made with the Neosapiens was something to be herald, but given that it was also against many of the sacred laws which governed, protected, and preserved the Langarri society it also created a moral choice that Davis would soon have to make. For the moment though he refused to make such a decision. Instead continued on his current course of actions an made his way from the Deveron system to that of the Altaria System, within the Garon Galaxy by way of the Astria Porta. The system Altaria system was a small system which existed near the center of the Galaxy which neighbored that of the Milky Way. It's prized planet was that of Altaria IV, a rocky planet with high mountains, stone spires, low valleys, small lakes, and a stone crust. Few plants grew on the planet and other than a few reptile species, there were no signs of intelligent life.

The Langarri had came to the system years ago and found the planet much as it looked today, aside from the small outpost they had built to house the few scientist they left behind and an Astria Porta for transportation back to the Milky Way. However, it wasn't long that the Langarri Governing Council concluded that there was little to gain from the planet and thus did nothing to support efforts of a full colonization. However, Councilor Davis was on that Governing Council when such a decision was made and although he voted in favor of such actions, he did so due to the secret plans he had in store for it.

"Councilor Davis, it is good to see you" said a young woman whom appear to be in here late 20's though was almost certainly much older. "It has been so long since last you visited this remote part of the Garon Galaxy."

"I am sorry Aprilis but business back home on Earth has kept me long past overdue." said Davis as the two hugged. "But I am here now and I cannot wait to see the progress you have made here."

The two continued to talk as they walked through the sleek halls of the Langarri outpost. In all there were only about ten people who lived within the compound, and all were engineers ranging from structure to mechanical and almost everything in between. The bulk of the population was made up of androids, operating on the simplest of IA, that were used many for construction purposes.

As the Councilor and Aprilis rounded a corner, they entered a large elevator and proceeded down. Further and further the elevator went until within seconds they were thousands of miles below the planets crust. It was after the long ride down the tunnel that the shaft opened up into a large cavern area which resemble some more along the lines of a bustling metropolis.

Posted Image

It was a marvel until itself and unlike anything the Langarri had ever built. The city stretched the circumference of the entire planet, and was buried so deep beneath the crust that few orbital weapons could break through to reach it, that is if they even knew it was there.

"I hope you are pleased with our progress Councilor. We've been working night and day on this project to see it's completion. It has taken some time but we for one are more than honored to put our names of this city. Powered by the planet's core itself, they shouldn't never require an external power source. Shipyards and other manufacturing plants are located in the western regions where automated systems will be able to build weapons and ships of designs that are programed into the computer for them. A large 'Farm Zone' is to the south, also automated, that can grow and sustain millions given the information you gave me on their dietary habits. Cloning facilities to the west will help them sustain their population. In short Council, this city will be able to sustain the Neosapiens with little effort put into it by the Neosapiens themselves."

"Good," said Davis "We will be transporting them here soon. I have Professor Feller outfitting them with armor and weapons now. He will also run them through one final program to ensure they are full prepare to operate this city and then they will be transported here in stasis. After the whole of the population is loaded into the city, we will destroy cloak the above outpost and seal off the elevator shafts so that it will look as if we were never here. They will be able to get the the surface through the other escape shafts as well as the through the launch bays within the dockyards. Because of their design they will begin preparations for war as soon as they are awoken, and within months they'll be completely stocked for any engagements they could enter in."

The councilor smiled as he looked out into the great expanse of the city.

"Finally, we will have what we need to defend ourselves against anything. Tell was the call device also installed?"

"Yes sir, as you requested we built a 'temple' of sorts to the North. There we left several texts as well as idols, relics, an obelisk which doubles as a holographic projector. It is already programed with over three billions lectures but can also be remote activated to project any message you may wish to send. The image is of a deity which resembles their form. From what we've left they'll soon be completely brainwashed to follow whatever that hologram is programed to tell them."

"Excellent" said the Councilor as he continued his tour of the city. The next day he oversaw the first shipment of Neosapiens as they were brought in concealed within their stasis pods and scattered throughout the city. By the end of the day all four million Neosapiens which had been bread by Professor Feller were within the city. The main elevator shaft was then disconnected and the shaft itself was sealed. The outpost on the surface was then cloaked just like the cities back home on Earth had been. The Councilor then gave the world and Aprilis activated the awakening process and within hours the Neosapiens were all awake and busy throughout their new home.

It was something amazing to observe through the hidden camera as the Neosapiens quickly developed themselves into a society with an obvious hierarchy. They were also quickly understand and use the technology left behind by the Langarri to help them sustain their species. Within a days time they were already cloning more of their bread, with an estimation that their numbers would soon be in the billions. They also began preparing for war as their 'Gods' instructed them that great wars would soon take place and they would be called upon to fight in them.

As the Councilor saw the last of the engineering crew step through the Astria Porta to travel back to the Milky Way, he said a final goodbye to his creation. Pleased with his self he stepped through the device on his way home. Though he knew what he had created, it was unforeseen if even he knew exactly how far he had really gone in the creation of this new 'weapon.'

In the war-torn land of Velorya, the Salvation waited in silence as the El Dejarboans loaded a group of Knights on board. They were about to set out on the short quest for the lost underground bunker that held vast stores of Veloryan knowledge. Each of the Knights were shown to their quarters where they would rest during the trip. Each room was luxurious and comfortable compared to most that the Knights have had in the past.

Once everyone was on board, the great Benedictine-class ship turned and set out to scour the land. The Salvation's scanners concentrated on penetrating the Earth's surface, looking for any irregular anomalies that may designate an underground chamber. With the speed and range of the mighty vessel, finding such a place would not be difficult.

The Arch-Bishop reclined on the bridge, having claimed the captain's seat for himself on this mission, smiling to himself as he watched the readouts on the main screen. So far they were only finding natural fissures in the Earth, but it'd only be a matter of time before that mysterious bunker was found. Once located, it would spell triumph for El Dejarbo and the Knights of Christ.

NRE and Nag and NH and Scy had pretty awesome story lines going. You guys should spontaneously continue! I'm serious. It would be fantastic.
Also, the only way to access the alternate universe forum is by clicking on the italicized words below General Discussion. I kinda like it because it's like having one of those secret book shelves that turns into a door when you pull out the copy of Utopia... except it's a link. But is it supposed to be like that?
