The inventively named ICA was responsible for keeping killer diseases from sweeping through the IDP. When recieving a transmission from Western Europe warning of death, the ICA needed to do very little. Only five of it's five billion citizens were outside the boarders and the only one of them in Western Europe was Citizen Obediah Kaine, who was investigating infection and death. But still... this warning of doom perhaps warrented it's own investigation. An unmaned spy-craft would be flown over what was still marked as the 'Amish Commune' on the maps of the IDP to take pictures of the events unfolding there. And perhaps what was revealed would be of interest to Citizen Kaine...

The spy-craft entered the earth's atmosphere over the Atlantic Ocean, and was speeding toward the source of the Amish signal. It crossed the European border high, very high, above what had been England, and then lowered itself over the Channel. A few manouvers to avoid any political problems brought it to the Rhine Valley, and it began making prepared its cameras and sensors. 10 seconds till being over Amish Lands the broadcasts increased:

Danger, Danger. Death. Danger, Danger, Death. Turn back.

Medical sensors deployed, as did both infrared cameras and life-form detectors. two seconds, one second............

Silence. All transmissions from the drone stopped. An instantaneous flash occurred in the daytime sky, totally unobserved by the Amish, that simply continued to toil in their fields. They were unaware of any threat, or any protection.

"I will be sending two knights along with you your grace for protection" said Commander David as we walked Cardinal Victoria to the fighter bay of the ship.

"Although I do not believe there to be any fear here Commander" said the Cardinal "I will accept your recommendation."

As they approached the transport, the Commander bowed as did the two knights awaiting the Cardinal. The Cardinal walked into the transported followed by four others all dressed in church vestments, some looking like nothing more than priest while others dawned more elaborate dress, denoting their status within the church.

As the shuttle began to lift off, the mighty doors of the bay open from the rear of the ship and the shuttle left, making it's way to the ground below. It was surely not the best of days for such an important meeting as the wind and rained were not the most inviting however this was am important meeting.

Posted Image

The shuttle landed as the prescribed landing pad. As the engines let off their exhaust, the rear of the ship began to hiss as the airtight door opened.

Posted Image

When the exit ramp had fully extended and touched down the party began to disembark. While leaving the confines of the ship they were greeted by Legate Sextus as well as by the small delegation that accompanied him. The Cardinal walked gracefully down the ramp, carrying with her a wooden staff which bore the cross on top.

It was an important piece for all Cardinals within the Marinite church. For though it appeared to be nothing more than a wooden staff with a gold end cap on one end and a magnificently sculpted gold cross on the other, embellished with a red gem stone in it's center it was much more. Embedded within the staff where several graviton emitters which when activate could effect the gravity around the staff. In the most simply of descriptions, the staff allow for it's possessor to make things float, as well as use gravity as a defensive weapon by either pushing away a small force, stopping projectiles in motion or protecting one self with a shield of gravity. The staff could only be activated however through a gauntlet for which a Cardinal wore on their right arm.

"As a representative of the Holy Catholic Commonwealth, I Cardinal Victoria come in the name of peace" said the Cardinal as she extended her hand. The Legate accepted her hand and began to escort her out of the rain. They came into one of the Legion's main halls where a large table was setup for their use. After showing the Cardinal to her seat Legate Sextus took his own seat.

"As I said Legate Sextus, I come baring gifts of food and medicine, supplies I am sure you are in need of. The Commonwealth as seen the horrors that this endless war has brought and we have come to help. Please, to better help I must understand the situation you are currently in?"

Legate Sextus sighed, and rapped his knuckles against the edge of the table. "It's not entirely clear, Your Grace." he replied. He winced inwardly. This was not going to be a pleasant conversation for him. He did not want to disappoint the Cardinal with his story. Moreover, he was afraid his reasons for fighting would disappoint himself.

Cardinal Victoria didn't seem to understand. "What isn't clear?" she asked, surprised.

"The situation." he clarified. "We know that we have outposts all over the coastal region across the Strait, but without long-range communications, we can't reach them. They have to send envoys every once in awhile. But it takes precious fuel, so we keep that at a minimum. They could all be burning right now, for all I know."

The Cardinal frowned. This was going to be harder than expected.

"If you haven't gathered, we could really use your help." the Legate said.

"We have a problem" said Councilor Marks as he addressed the Langarri governing council. "We have just received a report that the global shield will not be operational by the time the Menhadians arrive. The power source which was in development for the shield generator has failed in activating it in our test runs. It appears that to stabilize a shield of that magnitude, we will need an enormous amount of power."

The room begin to fill with conversation as the sum 300 members began to discuss amongst themselves options that the Langarri had. Finally Councilor Shari, a member of the council of 12 raised his had for silence, the room went dead.

"With the shield now an impossibility at this time" said Councilor Shari "we have no other choice but to depend on the Langarri Defense Initiative. I will personally send word the Supreme Commander Norse to assemble a defense fleet. In the meantime I suggest a full evacuation be put into effect of the entire nation. All non-essential personnel will be transported to one of our off-world colonies, will essential personnel needed for the defense of the nation will be left to fight. If the Menhadians prove to be to much for our defenses, then we will simply have to cloak our cities and leave. If they cannot find them, they cannot destroy them and since they do not carry the Langarri gene they certainly wouldn't be able to use any of the technology left behind should our cloaking shields fail. We will remain in exile until they leave, and then simply return. This seems to be our only option now."

The room once more filled with chatter, as some were saddened by this suggestion. Others saw it as a reasonable conclusion, finally Councilor Marks raised an hand and silenced the room.

"We will put it to a vote, and allow the majority of Langarra speak for us all."

With that every delegate's desks glowed with two buttons, one label "support" and the other "object." The delegates all casted their votes and the results were instantly shown on the holographic screens which hovered overhead. By the end of the vote, it was clear that the Majority supported evacuation, and thus it was approve. View screens, located in every home and large ones located in every major city square across the nation light up to show Council Marks, and the rest of the Council of Twelve. Marks was the only one to speak....

"Citizen of Langarra, I come to you today after making an important decision for all our race. An ancient Earth people simply known as the Menhadians are on an intercept course with Earth. Though we hope their trip is one of peace we cannot logically deny the possibility that their mission may be that of destruction. There for we, your governing council made up of your peers have passed an evacuation act effective immediately. Being forwarded to every one's home mainframe is an official document stating whether or not you have be approved for the evacuation and if so, when you are to report to your local Transport center for off-world transport. As we know that reasons and logic are the guiding forces of Langgarra we know that each citizen will remain calm and collected during this trying time. We ask that only essential personal property be taken so to make this as fast a process as possible. Thank you for your time."

Two Hours Later...

Councilor Davis was not happy with the governing council's position. He had been serving in the governing council for 82 years, and has been a prominent member of the council of twelve for 80. Being the youngest member to ever sit on the council of twelve, Davis was elected to the position at age 25, having only serve two years in the governing council prior to his appointment. A man of 105 now, he was still in the prime of his life given the fact that through genetic alteration, Langarri lived to the age of 200. It wasn't that the Langgarri did not have morals, it was just that the alterations were a logical conclusion after years of genetically altering out defects and other abnormalities which plagued early human existence for thousand of years.

He could not believe that Langarra would simply be evacuated and left to be destroyed without a proper fight. He was proud of his home and the life he lead with his husband Alexander and he refuse to simply run away while the Defense Initiative (DI) was left to defend it. It wasn't that the DI didn't have the superior technology to defeat them it was just that they did not have the numbers. He had always believed something like this would happen and that is why he had a plan.

Having contacted a friend of his shortly after the announcement, he made his way to the Governing Council's personal Astria Porta, and after putting in the address and making the connection, he stepped through the gate. He was transported halfway across the Galaxy to the Devron system. It was a small system which may overlooked, given that it's only livable planet, named Chevron four by the Langarri was one covered completely by an ocean. The Langarri however have build a beautiful underway city, and that is where Council Davis found himself.

"Ah Councilor Davis, after I got your message I came straight here to greet you." said a professor Feller "I suppose our fears have come to life?"

"More than you could image Feller" said the Councilor. "The Menhadians, a race we could have never predicted to threat us, is on a course for Earth."

"Well then, I suppose you will want to see our progress...."

A shuttle from the small bay on board the medical ship was dispatched to retrieve Citizen Obadiah Kaine. Though used mainly for the retrieval of those in need of medical assistance to be taken back to the medical ships, they were also used as transports.

When it docked with Kaine's research vessel, Obadiah was greet by a woman, a scared sister to be exact, and was offered a seat. Though still disgusted with what he was having to do for the sake of his research, he put on a fake smile and entered. The shuttle then returned to the medical ship and Obadiah was shown to the dinning hall. All though advance technologically, the Commonwealth had a love for the medieval and Victorian feel. This was apparent to Obadiah through the fact that almost all of the chairs, tables, and other personally effects of the ship were made of woods and cloth and not the more modern plastics an metals.

As he enter the dinning hall this "primitive" feel was everywhere. The table was of solid oak and the chairs were all intricately carved. A various assortment of fruits and meats bounded the table as well as sweet wine. Cardinal Allison, dressed in her finest dress came forward to Obadiah with her staff in had and greeted her guest.

"Citizen Kaine I presume, it is a pleasure to meet you in person" she said with smile. "Please take a seat so that we may make ourselves more comfortable."

The two then took seats and were served their food. Obadiah was a bit offset by the fact that only the two of them were feasting and yet all this food had been prepared.

"So tell me" said the Cardinal "Surely you, like myself are a long way from home. I have been sent on a mercy mission to help the poor people of this region. Am I to assume this is your same mission? It would appear that we are not allow, a Yshurakian vessel has also just been detected by our ships, but it is currently stationed at the Northern most borders so I do not believe we have much to worry from them. But please as I said, what is your purpose here if you do not mind my question?"

__________________________________________________________-

Cardinal Victoria was a bit distressed at the true disarray of the legions however was not completely unprepared for what she was told.

"Well I can assure you Legate Sextus, that communication problems can be easily fixed. We can have long-range communications arrays setup within an hours time but tell me what power sources are you currently running off of?"

Before the Legate could answer, one of the guards who was sent down with the Cardinal approached her and whispered in her ear. Her eyes narrowed as she learned that her ships had just intercepted and destroyed a spy probe of Christ Mount design. She then turned back to the Legate again.

"Legate Sextus I would also like to know about the weaponry your men carry. I am fully educated on the information much of the outside world has on your war and it's factions. If you are going to win this war for the namesake of Velorya you will undoubtibly need to be the side with the best weaponry will you not? I can assure you Legate Sextus that the Marinite church wants to help you to save your people and these lands from the grip of Satan and the heretics which work as his agents..."

Sextus smiled a bit. Hope was a funny thing. It gave out just when you needed it most, and cropped up just when you thought it was gone forever. He realized now that the power was in his hands. He could bring an end to the war. All he needed to do was cooperate with the Marinites. It wasn't really a stretch. Did they not worship the same God? Even though the information Cardinal Victoria asked for was top secret, and crucial to the survival of his faction, he would have to give it to her, at least to earn her trust. He could see that the others were staring at him, warning him not to divulge the information. But it was his choice.

"It's hard to explain, Your Grace. You see, Velorya -- what's left of it -- has been going on without an industrial base for hundreds of years. Our manufacturing capacity, or lack thereof, is entirely insufficient to meet our demand, especially for weapons. Therefore, we scavenge, steal, and trade for what we have. There are spacers that come by our enclave, looking to buy cold-fusion material and mercenaries. They pay us in weapons, and a few odd generators to keep our power up. Granted, these are old ones that they are perfectly willing to give up, but we make any deal we can. They only come this way because our goods are so cheap. Without weapons we would perish.

Therefore, our weapons are a mismatched and castoff lot. Damaged lazer rifles, some newer particle weapons, even a few old metal-projectile guns. Not all of this is entirely safe to use. I try not to send my Legionaries into battle with something that could kill them, but the fact is that it is better than sending them in with nothing. And to stay alive, I have to send them in one way or the other. This is the sad reality of our Civil War. One side cannot stop fighting, because the other sides will seize on its weakness and destroy it. It is a perpetual cycle.

What we seek in this war is not extermination. We are all looking for something -- something in particular. Specifically the Records. You see, legend has it that before the Civil War began, we were ruled by a vast Empire. Eventually, this Empire lost its hold over our people. As chaos broke out and the factions formed, the Government holed up in a secret bunker somewhere. This bunker holds the Records: all the Government's files. These files have the means to rebuild our nation. They document how all the industrial machines operate, the political system our Empire used, and the schematics of some secret weapons the Government developed that would make any faction who found them superior. We need these records. And I trust that you will help us find them, in exchange for our undying loyalty to you and your Church, Your Grace. Thankfully, no other faction is so fortunate to receive such magnanimous outside help...

A meeting was called by the Elders in the Amish Commune. All men (women were not allowed) were strongly encouraged to attend.

"This meeting will come to order," said Senior Elder Graham.

"Oh, stop, Billy. No need to be so formal," said Farmer Robertson. "What is this all about? Is your dog knocked up again?"

Everyone laughed, except the Elders. "Pat," said Elder Graham, "this is deadly serious. Sit."

The farmer sat down, then, there was a long pause. Finally, the Elder said, "Weeds."

A gasp went through the crowd. "But, but how?" asked Farmer Roberts. "We, we got rid of them all 17 years ago?" Then his face turned white. "Please, Lord, not again."

"Oral, it's true. They're back, just like before. Elder Swagert verified them on Farmer Jim Baker's back acres. Not many, less the a quarter acre is infested, but," and he paused. "That's how it started last time."

Another farmer stood. "Is... is... anyone...?"

"Yes Brother Falwell, Jim's wife. Tammy Fae. She died last night."

"What do we do?" several farmers asked in unison.

Slowly, a tall, lanky farmer stood. "Elder?"

"Yes, brother Sunday?"

"Give me ten strong boys. Some kerosine. Some scythes. I'll get rid of them."

"Billy, it's just not that easy. Last time......"

"Last time, we didn't know what we were fighting, and we were careless."

"Last time we lost over 300 before the fields were clean, and then it took two years of dilligence to make sure they stayed clean."

"I'm going. who will join me."

"Elder," asked another farmer. "What crop is Baker growin over there?"

"Karn," answered the elder, plainly.

"Then I ain't goin. Not in a karn field. Can't see the ass end of the out moose-ox in a karn field."

Farmer Sunday said, "I don't want an old fart like you anyway, Brother Gantry. I need nine strong, young men."

Slowly, nine young men raised their hands and volunteered for the mission. They were a'feard, but they would go with Billy Sunday leading the way. "Elder?" Sunday said. "Pray for us. The Lord knows we will need it."

"This... is... *crackle*... Zion... *static* do ... *static* land... *static* *crackle* Barcelona. *crackle* metropol*crackle* centers. Do *crackle static* attempt to reach *static* infected. For your *static* protection. I reapeat, proceed *static* Zion but do not *static* *radio silence*."

Radio. Useless. The towers had all failed early on. They could hear the visitors, because they used satellites, but doubted they coudl here them. Zion's engineers could only piggyback unto foriegn satellites for short times before being kicked off by security systems. Romero hoped they got the message. Hispania was as advanced as any nation three decades ago. They lost to the infected. While new technology mihgt be arriving, it would end badly if they landed in Barcelona or any metropolitan center. That had been tried hundreds of times before the remnants of the nation quarantined themselves in Zion.

"I've detected a weak signal from Zion," stated one of the communications personnel. "It would seem that we were approved for entry not too long ago."

"Very well, take us into the city," the ship overseer relayed to the navigation. "The ailing ill need our help, and a dangerous disease obliterated once and for all."

The Yshurakan medical hovership pushed its way into the limits of Zion, scanners looking for an appropriate place to land. The unarmed vessel of peace cruised amidst shattered buildings and urban decay. Truly, it was a disheartening sight for all aboard to witness.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A report came back to the Salvation from the probe. What the crew discovered was certainly cause for concern, and a threat to the Christ Mount's desire to spread the true word of Jesus Christ throughout the universe.
"The heretics have made contact with another faction, captain," reported the probe operator. "I do believe they hold similar plans to ours."
The captain of the Benedictine-class vessel stroked his chin thoughtfully, then began barking orders across the bridge. "Send out the Centurians. No one can stand against our mightiest battledroids, not even the filthy vermin of the Commonwealth...."
But please as I said, what is your purpose here if you do not mind my question?"
"28 years ago... a terrible disease decimated the population of Hispania. My own nation, however, was ready for such an eventuality - much like your own - and our quarantine proceedures allowed us to escape the terrible fate that befell the people of this nation. However, for the sake of national security... the disease was never studied. A perfect cure nor vaccine was ever created."
Obediah paused and cast a glance around the room, all the while watching his host seeking to mimic the appropriate social behaviour.
"My life's work, as it were, is the study of disease. And as such I have developed numerous hypothetical treatments based on what my people know of this disease.
"However... these treatments are untested - of course - and in nearly three decades, a virus can mutate and take on new traits. Not to mention the fact that living in a nation beset by an epidemic such as this is bound to have psychological effects: the surviving populas is bound to be paranoid and xenophobic having lived in quarenteen for such a long time. As such, my goal here is as much study of the disease and the people who must live with it as it is about helping these poor people.
"In the past... whenever a nation has attempted to give aid to the people of Hispania... it has ended badly. A large part of this, I believe, has been due to the fact that the initial relief efforts had been minimal - having come from nations which had only just overcome the disease themselves. Also, the relevent technologies invovled have had an impact. With all the advancements made over the years... I believe that ridding the world of this infection is only now viable."
Up until this point, Obediah had been more or less entirely truthful. But now it was time to bend the truth.
"Your mission of mercy is one that touches my heart. And news that the Yshurakians have also committed themselves to freeing the survivors of Zion can only be considered a good thing.
"As my own craft is outfitted primarily for my own personal defence and for conducting research, running into dedicated medical ships such as your own is a great boon."
In truth... Obediah did not care for the Hispanic people. Once he had conducted his research, he'd had no qualms with sharing a viable cure with the locals. But his goals and motivations were purely self serving. He lusted after knowledge. His only true desire was to study the disease and its affect on the people it infected and effected.
To further his research - or protect his own life - he would happily kill every man, woman and child in Zion. Of course it was incredibly unlikely that action would ever gain him anything... whereas helping the Catholics on their mission of mercy would help grant him access to a great deal of the infected and the survivors - which would certainly be a boon. But his main concern was that these meddling do-gooders would erase the disease before his research could be completed.
****
Meanwhile back in the IDP,
The loss of the spy drone was logged and data on the mysterious defences of the simple Amish updated. The last transmissions of the probe would be analysed to judge the strengths and mechanisms of the defences which had destroyed it. Perhaps the impending warfleet would be drawn into the teeth of the Amish.
Meanwhile a second spy probe had been prepared. The propulsion systems of the IDP revolved primarily around using energy fields to manipulate base forces such as gravity. Being unmaned, this made the drones suitable for operation in just about any environment. This drone would be fired along the projected flight path of the inbound warfleet. It would travel at almost the speed of light - which fortunately was not very fast in astronomical terms - continually taking sensor readings. When, and indeed if, a significant number (or quality) of craft were detected it would broadcast an invititation to open dialogue.
Menhadien battleships had reached the outer edge of the solar system that contained earth. Soldiers and pilots where arming them selves and reading for battle, alien allies where there with them and the newest member of allies, what the Menhadiens called druids, had recently developed a new power.
The druids had very powerful mental powers, able to use their powers as weapons firing bolts of elements and energy, but with the help of a static generator they could create a dome to protect them selves and others, able to withstand almost anything you could throw at it besides a nuclear weapon. But the shields could only cover a squad, and that was the most powerful of the druids. And with a static generator on their back, they could fire raw energy from their diamond spears, able to rip through metal and would destroy smaller shields with three shots, which could be fired quickly.
There was one druid, Merlin, he couldn't be trusted, he was too dangerous. The Menhadiens didn't dare to give him that power, not yet atleast, for now he was kept in a cell, safe from his powers. Mankind was safe from him for now, but he was also the Menhadien trump card, if victory wasn't possible he was waiting.
The Cardinal Smiled at Obediah as he flattered her and their mission. He was truly an interesting individual, he was lively and yet not...there was something about him that was certainly different from anything she had ever before encountered.
"We these people are truly our first and only concern here" said the Cardinal. "We received contained samples of the virus sometime ago and have since been working on a cure. Though we have several working pathogens, we simply did not have the resources nor enough of the virus to create a concrete cure.
That is why we've finally broken the silence and come here to Hispania. We will procure a few selected and begin testing them. Using our facilities here we can contain the infected and work out a cure. Some will die during the testing, of that I have no doubt. But we will ensure that it is a peaceful death, making sure that they are constantly comfortable. If and when they die will we given them the proper burial to ensure their entrance into Heaven as written in The Dividian."
After being serve more wine, she took a sip and then continued.
"Surely you yourself understand the necessity of religion Mr. Kaine. God place us here on Earth so that one day we could inherit it and build a divine kingdom to be rule by his one and only son, our lord Jesus Christ. However, as Satan's power grew strong Christ was forced to sacrifice himself so that through his blood, our sins could be washed away. Mary, his mother was the inherit his church and the only other to be touched by God. However the perversion of man has kept this truth from becoming a reality until now."
The Cardinal took a demanding tone, as all preachers of the gospel did when looking to enstill their words to their congregation...
"The Marinite church will inherit the Earth my dear Mr. Kaine. We will bring peace and happiness to all people. We will rid ourselves of all sin and finally live in harmony as we should have all those countless centuries before. We see our actions here in Hispania as our first step to this reality. As a man who wears no artifact or article of the church I can only assume you are without the word of God. In the days of the Genesian church I would be forced to burn you for your sins unless you converted.
Luckily for you, that church crumbled away centuries ago and those who still hold on the old ways will be dealt with soon enough. The Marinite church teaches of forgiveness and salvation. Those who have no committed the ultimate sins can be forgiven here on Earth and spared from being burned at the stake."
The Cardinal then produced a book from underneath the table, it was a copy of The Dividian and she slid it over to Obediah. As he came to a stop in front of him he examined the book. It was a hard cover book, of brown color with pure gold lettering for the title and a gold emblem which featured a cross and on either side where two open hands.
"I cannot force you to read it Mr. Kaine, but as an agent of God I am compelled to at least give you to tools needed to save your soul."
It was by this time that the two had finished their meal, what little Obediah had eaten of it in the first place and the Cardinal began to walk him back to the shuttle...
"I see" said Cardinal Victoria. "Well then tell your men to discard these outdated and dangerous weapons at once. The Commonwealth can provide you with phaser weapon technology. Rapid fire, single burst, high impact, and sniper phaser are all in full manufacturing back home at the capital. We currently have about two thousand on board our ships which we will certainly look to spread among your people at once.
As for your power problems, we would suggest converting to our Elerium Reactor. Elerium is an off-world element which radiates and extreme amount of energy and does so for a life span of what has been theorized to be three million years. We acquire from a Taoese trading company which mines the stuff. The Reactor we have adapted to gather the radiation as energy are quiet large, thus we will certainly need a large area, preferably somewhere most secure to house the generator, but once activated, you could run half the continent off the power. Portable generators as well as power pacts have also been developed to collect energy from the Reactor and make it portable. Power packs can be used to power ships as well as large cannon weapons. Generators can be used as backup power sources for bases cut off from direct lines to the reactor. It is truly the best source of energy in the Commonwealth, why our very ships run off engines with Power packs."
The Cardinal was going to continue when one of her guards approached her again. Her eyes widened at the news he revealed to her as she turned towards the Legate.
"It would seem Legate Sextus that your enemies have found their own friends. Battledroids have been picked up on our scanners on an intercept course for this location. We believe them to be of a design used by a Heretic commune known as the Christ Mount. They dare call themselves Catholics as they spread their vile and corrupt teachings. I would suggest that we spread those weapons among your men before those battledroids are upon us. I will ready my own men for the battle..."
It was by this time that the two had finished their meal, what little Obediah had eaten of it in the first place and the Cardinal began to walk him back to the shuttle...
Obediah felt the weight of the book in his hands as he walked with the Cardinal. Obediah was dressed in a simple dark grey jumpsuit, with a knee length white lab coat over the top. The lab coat had large inner pockets, but Obediah was both unsure whether concealing the text would be considered disrespectful... and he was unwilling to reveal the device hidden under his coat. So he simply carried the book in both hands.
"While I can make no promises of conversion, I will read your text and consider your beliefs. Thank you for taking an interest in the salvation of my soul. If your aim is to bring harmony to the world and your first step is to help these blighted people, then your beliefs seem just and true."
Obediah felt there was nothing more to say. He would read The Dividian - not for the sake of his soul or out of respect for his host, but rather because the book did not exist on the IDP records. Obediah would read it and upload the text to the Neural Network. It would be of particular intrest to students of Psyco-Social Future-History - the practice of mathmatically predicting future possibilities (and more importantly, probabilities) based on the knowledge of human behaviour.
At the shuttle, Obediah politely said his goodbyes and entreated the Catholics to make his presense and goals known to the Yshurakans.
Once safely back aboad his own ship Obediah breathed a sigh of relief. All the old sterotypes of religion had been proven true. Here was a Church that hid behind the pretense of progress and humanitarian goals in order to spread doctrine with the goal of conquering the world.
The IDP probe had been travelling for four hours at 99% of the speed of light before it came to an abrupt halt at Pluto, second dwarf planet from the sun.
The spy probe was practically on top of the Menhadien battleships.
The probe activated scanners and begun taking readings of the ships, caculating the number of ships and their capabilities. At the same time it opened all hailing frequencies and began broadcasting this message.
"Attention unidentied fleet. This is a message from the nation of The Indivisable Prime. You appear to be on route to Earth. We have no known records of ships of your specification making a peaceful pilgrimage to Earth. The IDP wishes to open dialogue with you and discuss your intentions. The spy probe was practically on top of the Menhadien battleships.
We have no known records of ships of your specification making a peaceful pilgrimage to Earth. The IDP wishes to open dialogue with you and discuss your intentions. Welcome to the solar system that birthed mankind."
The Menhadiens didn't know what was talking to them but they did respond.
Admiral Anderson was standing at the helm, his one real eye was fixed on earth the other eye, made of soild gold and diamond, stared off into space.
"Open up the frequency that the message came from, and silence on the deck." He ordered, and the ship fell quite and all that could be heard was the rumbling of the massive engines. "We would like to send our greetings to the nation of The Indivisable Prime, and we are the Menhadiens. We are quite willing to talk but I will state our mission to earth now, we want to fight old enemies and crush them under our heel, that is why we have come back.
He then turned to a Druid on deck, Iroeth, he was the most powerful and trustworthy off all the druids. Iroeth had bones hanging in his hair and his spear had a massive snow worm's tooth on the bottom, but he was old and was nearly asleep when the Admiral barked at him in his native tounge and pointed to pluto and its moon.
Soldiers strapped a static generator onto his back, and as they drew closer to pluto he began to chant, a deep low voice that was filled with growls and grunts, and then suddenly he roared and used his power to sieze pluto's moon and through it into pluto itself. He roared untill pluto shuttered from the inpact and began to fall apart. Iroeth went back to his room and slept. And meanwhile Admiral Anderson stood on deck and said to the still open line.
"We are quite willing to talk, are you?"
There was a slight delay as the signal was high-beamed back to Earth via the Network.
That the fleet was Menhadien was a fact the Calculator already knew. That they were open about there identity and intent, however, was something of a surprise.
"It is clear you possess a great military power. The IDP is not an enemy to you. We are one nation among the many of Earth - but we are not by nature a space faring nation. If you wish to fight your enemies on Earth, that is no concern of ours. However, should your war endanger our nation - be it directly from invasion, or indirected by causing major damage to the Earth itself or it's ecosystem - then we will be forced to use all of our power to stop you."
It didn't take long for the Centurions to arrive. They floated through the Veloryan jungles with rapid speed, weapons already locked on specific targets. Once they were in range, the El Dejarboan battle droids opened fire on the Commonwealth ships and the Holy Veloryan Legion settlement. Destructive bolts of energy met their mark against enemy infrastructure, the machines swarming through the area.
The Catholic Empire of El Dejarbo never tolerated those who would interfere on its plans, and the assault by the Centurions proved it. Each battle droid was individually shielded, making them formidable opponents. They would not be easily repelled, and the Salvation had sent enough to assure the destruction of the Commonwealth's plans in this area of the world.
The Holy Veloryan Legion fought back with everything they had. There were about 5,000 men in the commune, so almost half of them were able to be armed with the new Commonwealth technology. The rest fought back with the base's defensive lazers, which were large enough to be almost as powerful. Those men which could not be armed were sent to escort the women and children to bunkers underneath the settlement. The Veloryans, although their technology inferior, were a race of warriors, their spirit forged in hundreds of years of continual war. They fought bravely and efficiently, fighting back those droids that attempted to enter the Commune. However, the droids were many, and could fire from great range. It would be up to the Commonwealth ships to properly defend their new allies...
"They are near Pluto" said one of the officers of the Defense Initiative while reviewing the latest scans on his PADD (Personal Access Display Device). "I would suggest we cloak the cities now Councilors.
The Councilors were in agreement and sent the command to the central office of home-world defense. Within minutes, from a distances buildings began to simply fade away, one by one until entire city just seemed to disappear. It was the same for every city under Langarri protection. From an outsider's perspective the area for which the cities sat simply looked like open fields of untouched land. These cloaks were different from those on board Langarri ships.
These cloaking devices did not simply make the cities invisible, they also made everything with the field transparent so that not only did the area look vacant, an outside could also walk around the area without bumping into cloaked buildings and/or people.
The Marinites were not pleased with the attacks but were not surprised that such actions would be taking by the likes of the heretics of the Christ Mount. The Centurions descended on the encampment with great dedication to their programing. With little time to spread out the weapons evenly, many of the legions were still having to fight with their regular weapons.
The knights of the Commonwealth also fell in lines beside them, wielding their spear weapons. They were built to look simply, like the staffs for which the Cardinals carried. The staff part of the spear is formed from an alloy known as Bendezium, one of the strongest metals in the known galaxy. The blade is of an alloy known as Cosmonite. Although it appears to be a regular spear, the spear weapon actually forces energy into the Cosmonite blade, which conduces it into the shape of the blade and then releases it much like a shot from a lazer weapon. The energy is highly concentrated and lethal. Only the side arm of the Knights, which is affixed to a guanglet on their right arm, is used to stun people. It is also a small Cosmonite blade, but the energy focused within the blade is much less conduced.
The knights who were also protected by personal shield affixed to their light body armor were taking a good beating from the Centurions. The city was simply alight by the exchange of energy weapons as both sides fired on the others. The centurions were certainly faster than the knights but the knights had the cover fire of the three ships overhead. Like large land mines exploding, the massive guns of the three ships left craters in the ground. They chose their targets well when firing since the houses were so closely built together it was hard to get a good shot. Though much of the population was underground, they were not willing to simply decimate their homes for the sake of defense
The ship's weapons, along with the large lazer cannons of the legions were the only thing powerful enough to break the Centurions shields, however because of their superior mobility, it made them a very hard target to hit. The knights however were determined to use any means necessary to defeat their soulless enemy.
The Devron system was a small system which was considered an "outer rim" system given that it sat on the outer rim of the galaxy. Beyond it one who find themselves in the dead space between galaxies where no planets were located. Chevron 4 was the only planet within the Devron system which could support life. Although completely covered by water the Langarri had built impressive Dome Cities behind the ocean's surface.
It made for a quiet, peace place to live and work on their every constant research. One such researcher was Professor Feller. Twenty years ago he was a promising geneticists who worked in the National Genetic Department (NGD) of Langarri society. It was that same department which when first founded began to work on genetically altering Langarri DNA to begin manufacturing antibodies for many of the illnesses plaguing mankind such as cancer, aids, HIV, the common cold, and other deadly disease. Their results created the Langarri to be completely immune to all known diseases however they did not stop there. Soon the NGD were genetically altering Langarri children within the mother's womb (Natural child birth still being the prefered method) to root out genetic defects as when as to recode the Langarri body. The end result in all this was that Langarri from the time they are born until age 20, grow twice as fast as regular humans. That is, a Langarri ages twenty years, in a matter of ten earth years. Once this age is achieve the body then decelerates so that the body will last a Langarri until the age of two hundred at which point the Langarri DNA is programed to simply shut down the body. Langarri DNA also carry special genes which allow them to activate all their technology. Without these genes, no one can use their technology.
Although being a promising geneticists twenty years ago, Professor Feller was now an outlaw. He had broken a Langarri mandate with his research as was sentence to the highest punishment of Langarri, deep freeze. They would cryogenically freeze him indefinitely or until that point when the Langarri mandate for which he broke is overturned in his favor. Luckily however, Councilor Davis believed his research and experiments to be of great importance and thus save him in a secret escape plot and houses him in a secure sector of one of the domed cities on Chevron 4.
"Work has been going exactly as plan, I have two million currently in stasis and can have two million more by weeks end if need be" said Feller as he and the councilor walked down a hallway towards his work facility.
"Good" said Council Davis, "Were all the modification I specified done?"
"yes of course Councilor Davis, I think you will find my product to be of the greatest quality."
As the two men entered the huge structure of the Professor's development facility they stood on a balcony and overlooked the production floor. Stationed at computer terminals, food tables, gym equipment, and a firing range were thousands of the oddest creatures every to grace the Galaxy. They were the product of Feller's research, and the reason for his sentencing. Feller had created a new species within the galaxy and not only that but now through cloning he could now mass produce them.
Both processes were against Langarri mandates but the Councilor saw their potential and that is why he save the professor all those years ago. The creatures were label Neosapiens and visually resemble eight feet tall humans with pale blue skin. They have four fingers, including two opposable thumbs, on each hand, four toes on each foot and are completely hairless.
"As you can see Councilor, the Neosapiens are the perfect bread" said Feller. "They are physically far superior to humans. They can breathe in far thinner atmospheres, with a much higher carbon dioxide content. They have greater strength, speed, stamina, and vision. They also possess an overall higher average intellect than humans however I have burdened by a lack of creativity and imagination in order to ensure they do not think outside their given orders. Also, Although there are Neosapiens of both genders, they are incapable of sexual reproduction, and are in fact bred to be sterile and can only be reproduced through cloning."
"Excellent," said the Councilor "Am I to assume they have also been built to age much faster?"
"Oh yes Councilor" said Feller "I have employed that same technique here so as to achieve the age we are looking for in a minimal amount of time. They age three times as fast as humans making them 21 by the human age of 6. I have also employed only the finest in computer simulation training to have them battle ready. They will certainly make the perfect army for anyone seeking to destroy an enemy."
"To be truthful" said Councilor Davis "I had hoped it would not come to that. I had hoped that Langarra could remain the peaceful interplanetary nation it is without the use of destructive weapons such as these. However, desperate times call for desperate measures and although I had never counted on the enemy being that of the Menhadians, I knew someone someday would come to threaten our way of life and I would be forced to use such force."
"So, we will be deploying the Neosapiens for battle?" asked Feller
"I believe so however, not until I have full conformation that the Menhadians have attacked or done anything to jeopardized Earth or Langarra. Until then I simply came to help begin the preparations for deployment. We will need to equip all these soldiers with the proper body armor and weapons after which I will then be leaving to see if my other preparations have been completed."
"I understand" said Feller "Well then lets begin shall we...."
Billy Sunday and his nine companions entered Jim Baker's field early in the morning, with dew still wet on the Karn. The weeds will not, as yet, have been warmed by the full rays of the sun, so they would be dormant - at least that is what they hoped. Billy had his men spread out, in a wide line where each could just touch the other's finger-tips if they spread their hands out wide. The karn had already grown to at least a foot over the tallest man's head, so touch and voice was the only method of communication.
As they approached the back acres the usual sounds of a country karn field started to disappear. The morning cricket chirps were left behind, and the "kaw" of the crone-birds, always present, we silenced. The silence was deafening. The only thing they could hear was their own breathing, and their shallow footfalls on the black dirt. Not a weed in sight - yet.
Billy was carrying a long-handled scythe. He kept it directly in front of him, and close to the ground, his eyes watching intently for any sign. Others carried hoes or rakes in the same way, gently probing the ground in front of them.
Jesse, a young man from the Jackson family, was on the far right end of the line. He was scared, but tried hard not to show it. Heck, he thought, everyone was scared, why shouldn't they be. Most were too young to remember the last time there was an infestation of weeds in the Amish Commune. He used his free hand to bruch away a fly that seemed to be constantly bumping the back of his neck. If he had only thought for a minute, about how there were no other insect sounds, he might have had time to react, but he was to frightened to think straight. He felt the fly land on his neck again. He instinctively brought his hand up to brush it away, but when he tried to lower it again, he couldn't. He looked over his shoulder, and saw the slender green curling tendril wrapping around his wrist. It grew so fast, and already had made five or six loops, and was starting to interweave between his fingers. He was about to shout when he felt the constriction around his neck - instantly cutting off his air. A tendril had wrapped itself quickly around his throat, and now started growing into his mouth. He felt more on his legs and ankles, and he fell to the ground. Paul Harvey, the man next to him, heard him fall, and said, "Jesse, you OK?" There was no reply.
Jesse's eyes were now wide in fear, as more tendrils began grabbing him. Two began growing under his eye sockets, and began wrapping around the eyeballs themself, squeezing them. The one in his mouth wrapped around his teeth, and with amazing strength began breaking them, one by one. Then he was being dragged, quickly and silently, through the karn, back to the parent weed. His eyeballs were crushed by the tendrils, spilling out the liquid within, then he could actually feel tendrils growing into his brain. His mouth was filled with his own blood, but also the taste of broccoli as a tendril grew around his tongue. More began going down his throat, and busting through his strangling esophigus, reaching out to his heart and other inner organs. He felt his manhood being crushed too, but couldn't move. Finally, he reached the parent weed, and now felt the spikes of the many leaves ripping his flesh to bits. He was being devoured alive, as roots started sinking into him through the holes made by the spikes. He was totally paralized, but could hear the digestive noises as the weed began excreeting it's acid-like enzimes. Then, mercifully, he died. Within minutes, he would be nothing but a wet spot on the ground as his bones would be dragged underground by the weed's roots, and crushed into bonemeal. His friends would never find a trace of him.
There was a reason why El Dejarbo used the Centurions in warfare. It was because they were so incredibly effective. Their shields could reflect most rifle fire, and while cannon fire from ships such as the Commonwealth's were strong enough to be instant kills for the battle droids, the robots were often too fast to remain targeted anyway. Being machines, they had no morale to spoil like the human soldier. They were the ultimate army and were the reason why El Dejarbo dominated so much of the Americas in this futuristic age.
The Centurions also had no mercy, killing their programmed enemies relentlessly. The commune that had belonged to the Holy Veloryan League was now in flames as the mechanical beasts swarmed the area with their destructive energy fire. There was an untold number of them, assaulting the commune and Commonwealth ships. Centurions reflected the zealous fire and spirit of Genesian Catholicism that still thrived in El Dejarbo.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Arch-Bishop Rahl smiled as the ending of the diplomatic feast with the Knights of Christ approached. He had received good news concerning the status of the Commonwealth problem over a thousand miles away from here. The Centurions had once again proven their worth to the Catholic Empire.

"Master Marius," he said, "I have good news to offer you. Recently I received word that the heretical Commonwealth was attempting to aid your enemies, the Holy Veloryan League. However, we have seen fit to ruin their plans entirely with a legion of Centurions—whose designs, by the way, you should find in the schematics we gave you.

"My ship reports that the Centurions have the heretics overran as we speak. We have seen fit that the Knights of Christ will remain the dominant force in this land." He raised his glass in a final toast. "To the deaths of the heretics."

Master Marius smiled giddily. "To the deaths of the heretics!" He echoed triumphantly. His men all followed suit. This was indeed a red-letter day. The day of dominance of the Knights of Christ was at hand. His dream, the dream of all the Order and all their ancestors for generations was to be fulfilled, in his life time. This was a beautiful thing. The Knights may not have the capacity to produce many of the Centurion droids now, but getting his hands on the Records would mean that he would be able to produce factories like those of old, turning out hundreds of the things to destroy his enemies. Luckily, his new allies were the most powerful, it seemed.

"Excellent, My Lord, excellent!" He exclaimed. "The dominance of our Order, is assured, it would seem. With these weapons and these schematics, there is only one thing remaining that we need in order to achieve total domination. Somewhere in Velorya, there is a bunker. Within that bunker, there is a computer, in which all the records of my people are stored. Should we find them, we could build the automated core-forges of ancestral design, able to produce machines at many times the normal rate. With them, we shall be totally unstoppable. Could we perhaps be given use of your scanners?"

Arch-Bishop Rahl stroked his chin thoughtfully. "An underground bunker, you say? Indeed you can use our ship's scanners. The Salvation shouldn't have any trouble finding it. We'll need to scout Velorya for a few days, but locating it in short matter is quite assured."

Obediah adjusted his ships defensive systems to emit a cloaking effect rather than an energy shield as he flew the ship high above the city. He would wait until one of the other parties had made contact before making his presense known to the locals. While Obediah was willing to take risks for his work, he was not willing to take unnecessary risks. In the meantime, he would read The Dividian and study samples his drones had retrieved from the surface.

The apperent disappearence of the Langarri had not gone unnoticed within the IDP.

And the impending arrival of the Menhadien fleet was unlikely to be a co-incidence. If the Langarri expected conflict, then perhaps the IDP's days of peace were numbered.

This has been changed as of 6/8/07. I've decided to take this part of the story in a different direction.

The Centurions were certainly a problem for the Commonwealth. As some fell to the guns of their warships, most were still to fast to be effected by the might gun fire.

Commonwealth knights beside their Legion counterparts began falling all around the city as the laser riffles given to the Legionaries and the staff weapons of the Commonwealth knights simply weren't enough to put in real dent into the enemy numbers.

Cardinal Victoria was in the safety of a house with Master Knight John and Legate Sextus. She knew the Christ Mount had play their hand and won this round, she had never anticipated such resistance and with this being the first encounter with the centurion menace, the Commonwealth forces were simply too ill equipped to handle them.

"It seem gentlemen that the time to escape has come" said Cardinal Victoria. "They simply out number us too greatly to ever hope to have any great win here. I suggest we use the shuttles and retrieve as many as possible and return to the ships were we can escape to high orbit."

Legate Sextus was ever reluctant to follow such a plan. The civil war had been going on for too long and he had found to so hard already for what his forces already controlled. A retreat here would only deepen the wound in the many of the soldiers hearts. However, the Legate had little time to argue as three Centurions burst threw the door of the house.

They were calculative machines, they knew they had their enemy which equaled them in number, out gunned and certainly out numbered in strength and ability. What they couldn't have calculated and what they were prepared for what the graviton technology the Cardinal had within her staff.

"Be gone beasts of Satan" she cried as she brought her staff to the floor and then leaned it into the direction of the enemy. The red jewel within the center of the cross at the head of the staff glowed and within second the centurions were thrown clear out of the house and into the building across the street with such force that it brought the building on top of them though their shields saved them from a crushing demise.

"That certainly will not hold them forever, I suggest we leave gentlemen" said the Cardinal. "Legate Sextus, you can use our shuttle's communications to order your people and soldiers to fall back to our other shuttles scatters throughout the city. We certainly have room for all refugees."

With that the three of them made their way to the shuttle and after taking on all the soldiers in the area that they could they took off back to the ships hovering overhead. With the ships laying cover fire, many shuttles from throughout the city made it to one of the three Commonwealth ships. However, they day was not without many loses and the infirmaries of all three ships were filled with wounded soldiers and civilians who had fled for the ships.

The Commonwealth ships now stood in high orbit over the Earth. Her beautiful shy-scape the back drop of many of the windows of the ships. Cardinal Victoria was in her private chamber on the lead ships looking out at the Earth when Legate Sextus enter.

"I am sorry for our loses this day Legate Sextus." she said in a sorrowed voice. "We never imagined our enemy would already been in the area sewing the seeds of evil to your embattled lands. However, I promise you that though they may had one this battle, this war is far from over. Now please, tell me more about this mysterious bunker and the secrets it is legend to hold?"

"C-certainly, Your Grace." said a slightly shaken Legate Sextus, who was covered in dirt and bleeding form several cuts across his arms and face. "The bunker in which the Records are kept is somewhere on the Mainland. It contains all the secrets that our old Government had kept from us, and has been lost for all this time. There are two things that we are looking for, in particular. The schematics for the core-forge, a massive factory fed by the immense geothermal energy of the Earth's core, and the schematics for Project Talos..."

The Cardinal frowned. "What is Project Talos?" she asked.

Legate Sextus merely shrugged. "We are not entirely certain. All we know is that it is a weapon of unrivaled power. The most dangerous thing man has ever developed. If we have control of Project Talos, our victory is assured. Furthermore, the global dominance of the Commonwealth is assured. Once you help us win our war, we shall serve you most faithfully. You will see the dividends of our work today, believe it..."

OOC: I don't wanna step on any toes here. This is the AU forum. We're RPing the future. This is your chance to let your imaginations run wild. But I'm going to remind people to play fair. There's nothing wrong with lazers or robots or mobile suits. But if this devolves into a five year old's game ("I shoot you and you die", "No I don't I'm bullet proof", "Yeah well I shot a lazer not a bullet", "OK but I can come back from the dead") then I am gonna have to lock and archive. There is nothing wrong with making stuff up on the spot. It's cool. I don't want to kill the story by making you plan everything in advance. There is nothing wrong with having cool technology and gagets. Again, that's the point of RPing the future. Just try to keep things reasonable. "I shoot you" works better than calling the shot: your supersoldiers are no more unstoppable than your enemies supersoldiers (unless you've agreed otherwise). If you have a technology that would save the day, you don't have to use it straight away: retreating to come back later with your newer, cooler weapons works better than saying you had them with you all along.

[Edit]

This isn't meant as a bitch or a warning. It's not directed at anyone. It's a friendly reminder to be cool.

Yeah, this is most likely in reference to my post and I do apologize for my behavior on the subject, it was a rushed post to begin with and looking back I should have taken a different direction. If Scy is ok with it I'll let it stand, but if not I have no problem changing it for the sake of setting a good example throughout, plus in reality there was a different direction I was thinking of taking in the first place but opted out because of personal time restraints that I had when I was writing the reply.

Damn, I am just roll-playing my little plot of undestrubed europe, and some strange animals and plants. Oh, and maybe some strange secret defense system left here by someone the Amish just barely remember, but it was rp's back in the real forums, so, sorry. I don't think I was being out of line!
