Presidente Antonio Santiago, leader of the People's Republic of El Dejarbo, was sitting at his presidential desk in his office. The day had been a busy one, shuffling through papers on economic matters and trade with his surrounding South American neighbors. He was currently reading up on the status of international interest in the Panama Canal, curious of the vital trade route. Almost done with the file, his secretary and a general from the El Dejarboan army came in with great urgency. The presidente looked up with some surprise. "What's this interruption? I wasn't even notified." "Sorry, Presidente," said the secretary. "There was no time... I'm afraid the general has some important news." "What is it then, General... uh....?" "Ruiz, Sir," the general replied with a prompt salute. "I am here on reasons of international security. Just half an hour ago, the El Dejarboan Congress received an alarming bomb threat from an unknown party claiming that they would destroy the House of Congress if sixty-trillion pesos was not delivered to them in ransom." Presidente Santiago's eyes widened. "Why was I not notified of this?" "That's ah.. what we're here for, Sir, to tell you. We need to reach a decision as soon as possible." "Can I see the bomb threat?" "Of course... I have it right here." General Ruiz handed the presidente a piece of paper. Santiago read through the typed sheet, his eyes widening with each word. He didn't know if this threat was real or a practical joke. The ranting about "great injustices" done to the party and "debts owed" seemed absolutely ludicrous in nature. And to top it off, it was signed "Diablo." Santiago looked up at the two other men. "I need to address the nation. I will announce that El Dejarbo will not negotiate with terrorists, and then I want security around the House increased. No one is to be let in or out without proper identification." |

So the security had been posted and the ransom ignored. Only representatives with proper ID were allowed in or out of the El Dejarboan House of Congress. There couldn't possibly have been a way that anyone could plant a bomb within the confines of the building, El Dejarbo's military and police had made sure of it. They made regular and complete bomb sweeps of the entire area. General Ruiz himself was there, overseeing the entire security operation. Looking briefly at the mountains towards the east of Renu Grande, taking in a deep breath of air, he radioed the presidente. "All is clear, Sir," he reported. "There's no way that Diablo miscreant could possibly bomb the House of Congress n--" Suddenly a gigantic explosion rocked the campus, shrapnel and debree hitting the general from behind, temporarily causing him to lose his equilibrium. He looked back at the House of Congress from where he stood, his mouth agape, eyes wide in disbelief and horror. Everyone who was inside, or standing directly outside, was lost to the country. "IT'S NOT POSSIBLE!!" Oh, but it was possible, for it no longer stood in front of him as proof. The House of Congress was utterly gone and obliterated. The only remaining traces of the building were on fire and mostly strewn about the green campus. Diablo had struck, as promised, by blowing up the House. How he had accomplished it, no one was sure of it yet, but he obviously had used some means that they hadn't counted on. |

Pirate Band Transmission To: Nueva Hispaniola From: Diablo Ah! A fan! Someone who understands my toil. Someone who offers aid to my cause. Need no worry, fellow visioneers of toppling so-called "governments" and their jealously guarded power, my haven is already safe and remains unknown to the insiped fools that rule El Dejarbo with iron-fisted political tyranny. Never will they find where I roost, and never will they discover who I am. |

At the point of meeting, a contingent of men in black, visored helmets and body armor awaited the supply convoy from Nueva Hispaniola. They were an unusual sight, like something out of a James Bond movie or a comic book. Once the convoy was brought to a hault, one of the men stepped forwards to address the drivers of the front trucks. "Are these the weapons?" he asked. |

A man in a filthy white wife-beater, a Yankees cap, and jeans, who was driving the lead vehicle stared blankly at the strangely dressed men. He obviously didn't speak English. These weren't soldiers, just some peasants that the General had contracetd to bring the terrorist his armaments. The man chewwed thoughtfully on a cigarette, and calmly replied. "Armas por El Diablo". |

The helmeted head moved in a nodding fashion, and waved the rest of the troops over. Immediately they forced the civilians out of the trucks and took control of the vehicles for themselves. They drove off with the equipment, leaving the civilian truck drivers stranded without transportation. Later in the day, a large sum of money was wired into Generalisimo Francisquez's private accounts. |

The General allowed the civilian transporters to find their own way back. A surprising number actually returned, with only half a dozen casualties. In order to assuage their tempers and prevent a backlash, he presented them all with the People's Prize, the highest civilian honour in the nation. He laughed all the way to the bank. |

"We thank the international community for their support. The terrorist known as Diablo has sent us another threat, this time threatening to destroy random embassies other nations have placed within our borders. He demands an even larger sum of 100 trillion pesos. So far our investigations have not been able to turn up a single clue on the identity of this mysterious Diablo. We request any assistance that can be offered." - Presidente Antonio Santiago |

A mysterious letter delivered to all countries of South America: Greetings leaders of South America! I will soon be conducting my grand finale this coming Devil's Night. On that night I plan to crush the backbone of El Dejarbo and begin the campaign of taking it for myself! El Dejarbo could have prevented this, but time and time again they refused to pay my ransoms. Now they must suffer the consequences.... - Diablo |

Tonight was the night. Devil's Night. Diablo's Night. The day had run through with a strange aura of nervous calm, the populace of El Dejarbo expecting cars or buildings to suddenly blow up in front of them. But it was not to be. Diablo was saving his grand finale for the evening. Security through El Dejarbo had been tightened. Guards and policemen frequently conducted searches of anyone they thought suspicious. Not a trace of Diablo's influence was found, however. Now, somewhere high in the Andes Mountains, a great villain stirred. He stepped past collumns of his black-armored men—still looking like troops out of a James Bond film—as he made his way to his control room. Once he reached the door, he ungloved his right hand and placed it on a panel. The panel quickly read the lines of his palm and promptly opened the door to his control room. In he step and pulled his glove back on. Before him stood a great technological marvel of machinery that he alone had designed and built, a massive computer that controlled all of his communication, security, and weapons systems. With it, he could destroy buildings with but a keystroke or hack into any computer in the country. It was his baby. He quickly took a seat at a chair before the monstrosity, carefully letting his long, black cape to drape over the back. He cracked his knuckles and pressed a button to start the music: Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain." He grinned feverishly and typed in the password that would activate his weapons systems, "HADES," and began pressing several more keys to arm them. "Now the fun begins..." he said to himself. He pressed a key that would hack into the country's speaker systems, transfering "Bald Mountain" so everyone in El Dejarbo could hear. His fingers moved then over another set of keys and began pressing each button that would launch his sewer torpedoes throughout El Dejarbo. Each one met its random mark, entire city blocks being destroyed utterly. The grand finale had finally begun! |
