Hello; part I: an introduction

Hello, I would like to introduce myself. My truest name is a secret, a buried secret that shall never surface to the likes of the internet. You can call me Maudlin of the Well (MotW). I dwell on the east coast of the United States of America (the worst country on the planet), and am 17 years of age. I am an intellectual man whose enjoys progressive metal (ala Opeth, Dream Theater – and my namesake: Maudlin of the Well), poetry, nature, and literature (especially the works of H.P. Lovecraft and Hawthorne). I am deeply interested in avant-garde thinking and philosophy.
I have been playing nation states for three years or so, with over a dozen nations in a dozen of regions … recently I left NS for about 5 months and then decided to come back with a new nation and a new region. My nation: Maudlin of the Well, will be played as a freethinking utopia, free of capitalist restraints and closed in thinking. Something that could not exist in the real world, as man is too barbaric at heart. Even 500 thousand years of existence haven’t tame us, sure the names are different, the people and places are different we haven’t progressed much.

Welcome to our macroregion, Maudlin of the Well. I hope you enjoy it here. The people are friendly, and the roleplaying is always fun :D

We have room for all sorts of nations. Any nation you make should be able to find allies and stories in our world. As you may have noticed, we have five different affiliated regions. You can join any of them, or make multiple nations in different regions. If you've already decided where you want to be, feel free to send a private message to that region's mapmaker requesting a map place. If you haven't selected one yet, then feel free to browse our forum until you know where you want to be.

Hopefully, you'll have fun here, and will become an active member of our community.

Finally, as a fellow denizen of the east coast of the United States of America, I must say that the idea that this is the worst country in the planet is utterly absurd. Please take no offense, but it stretches even the limits of hyperbole when you recall that countries like Sudan and North Korea still exist.

Anyways, welcome. ;) And the USA is not the worst country in the world for me, because I'm an immigrant come to take your jobs! :D

The US's defect however is in its ignorance and corruption. It spiraled out of control, we are like rome just before its fall - a wolf who fails to see it is injured and thinks it can take on bears. The Sudan and North Korea still do exist, they're defect is in violence. Which one can say is agrubably worse.

Ha! Now, I'll admit that Bush is an ass. And so is Cheney. And so are most of our current leaders. But America is far from being the worst nation in the world. Let me direct your attention to Syria, Iran, North Korea, and, of course, Leichtenstein.

HP Lovecraft is one of my favorite authors, though, and while the only work of Hawthorne's that I've read is the Scarlett Letter, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Welcome to our regions!

BTW, if you have any questions about whats currently happening in the regions, feel free to ask! I'm sure we'll be able to help you get into the swing of things.

Esternarx is gonna have a field day with you. He is a libertarian, just a year younger than you, and a fine debater. You'd better start researching postive aspects to socialism and negative aspects to libertarianism if you want to survive the onslaught of arguments! :D

Don't take that the wrong way. Esternarx is a nice guy, and doesn't get that bad on opponants. Socially, from what you say, his goals are identical to yours. Economically, he thinks your a fascist. He believes in individual self determination, no socialist stuff. I'm centrist...

Don't take this the wrong way, but please don't tell me your an emo...and the US is not the worst country in the world. That would go to a three way tie between Iran, North Korea, and the Sudan.

There's definately an arrogance to our nation now, and I think that is one of our big problems. President Bush campaigned in 2000 saying he would pursue a "humble" foreign policy. After the Clinton years, this was certainly an idea welcomed by many. Sadly, that promise has been shredded and burnt. Of all the broken campaign promises I've seen, that's the one that saddens me most.

Bush is a shrub.

Welcome to the forums; I hope you enjoy your stay here and although I feverantly disagree with America being the worse country (although the past few leaders have been less than what they have been hyped up to be) I respect your opinion as a freethinker ;) and hope you will be a great addition to the forums. You will definately like most of our debates. :)

Been waiting to see a picture of your Emo little self, and you don't like poetry?? What's not to like? I love it, and even majored in literature so I could BS my way to a master's degree!!

Maudlin of the Well, I am the dirty old gay guy, so don't mind me. Actually, I like your attitude, and I, too, think America is like the Roman Empire at the brink of a fall. I think the future of the world will be yellow - China, and it's neighbors will surplant the white man. We are on the decline, and better figure out how to survive in a Brave New World!!

Welcome. We can be a waring, boisterous, obnoxious group, but you will have fun!!

No! Stand up and fight! Do your duty to your country, soldier!

...Sorry :(

Anyways, I don't think China is on the rise so much as you think. Our soft diplomacy has been sapping them for awhile now. I wouldn't be surprised if China went the way of Soviet Russia, myself. Its not the military keeping this ship afloat, its the Average Joe American and his oh so fickle consumerist culture. B)

 I'm good on that debate, thanks.

As for China, we'll have a major problem on our hands in a few years if we dont figure something out now. They could crash our economy if they wanted too.

As for North Korea... Those missles have a lot of people upset. Especially here in Japan. I really do forsee a war with them here shortly.

That has completely destroyed my mental image of you...

And glad to hear the you're not an emo, I can't stand the brats. I can stand goths, though. I read poetry too, but classical poetry, not this "The Blood Running From My Heart" or whatever those stupid goths write. I also like classic rock.
