Gay Pride Day, Chicago, New York, and elsewhere

This weekend is Gay Pride in Chicago, and other major US cities. It commemorates the aniversary of the "Stonewall Riots" which happened on the last Sunday in June, 1969 - the New York Police raided the "Stonewall Bar", a well-known gay bar in Greenwich Village, and began arresting people for no good reason other than they were gay. Much to the surprise of the cops, a group of drag queens chose to fight back, a riot ensued, and the Gay Rights movement was born!!

This weekend will begin with parties all over the city - we will attend one in Elk Grove Village with a group of 100 of our closest friends. Sunday, we check into the Conrad Hotel on Rush Street, subway (tube) it up to the Treasure Island grocery store on Broadway, and stake out a curb-side viewing area for the parade, which should reach that spot about 1:00 in the afternoon. After the parade, and many, many drinks, we'll hit a few bars, head back to the hotel to rest a bit and have dinner, then hit a club or two for more partying Sunday night!

If you should happen to be in the neighborhood, look for the guy with the marine camo short sleeve shirt, and the marine camo kilts. That will be me. Stop by and say "hello".

Happy "Pride" to everyone!!

Where's Fred Phelps planning to be?

There will be 400,000 drunken revelers in Chicago - I don't think he will be here!!

Hmm, I'm not a big fan of prides.

Neither was I, originally, because I thought it displayed the "bad" side of gay life, but it has become such a big party that the whole city embraces it, as a matter of fact, every politico from Southern Illinois all the way to Wisconsin makes sure they are seen here. It has become a very positive event! Also, George Takii (Mr. Sulu from "Star Trek") is going to be Grand Marshall of the parade, which will be cool!

CE, get over it. It's just another excuse to party!!

Hmm, well I don't know. Prides are just excessive in my view. No need for them anymore either.

Maybe not in Britain, but there is still a real need here in the US. The battle for our civil rights continues, and it is a good way for voters to see who's with us, and who's agin us!

I am glad your government and politicos are so progressive, but remember what Thatcher did to the trade unions - that same sort of "reform" could still be aimed against the gay community and everything gained could be lost.

I was in bars in the early '70's that were raided for no good reason other than to harrass, and, yes, I've been arrested (but never convicted  ), and it still goes on today with some of the police departments around the country.

As I said, get over it, CE, march in your Pride Parade, get on a float and shake your little Hobbitt booty!!

I'm going to the Stonewall-related festival this weekend in my city, not jus including a gay pride march but also marijuana rights, indie music, etc.

There will be a Scientology rally there too. (thumbs down)

Where will this be?? Sounds like a fun time, and a "smoke-in", even, though I could do without the Scientology nonsense!!

Pride ROCKS!

You guys have to come to Brighton for the next pride. It totally rules.

If your American version is half as good I wish I could get there.

Uh, remember the photo I posted here but decided to take down because it was a little offensive?

Rochester had a Pride, didn't go to that because my car pool's date was feeling too closet because it's a lot closer to home than Brighton.

Yes, I remember that photo! I'll have to post a few pics of this years Chicago Pride - the 4 biggies in ther USA are New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Hollywood, and the real fun begins in the bars after the parade - hockey equipment might just be in order!!

Nothing, however, compares to the Folsum Fair in San Fran, where the vast majority of the men are nekkid!! It's the BDSM festival of San Fran, but there are twinks galore for people like CE too!!

Oh, yhey just had Gay Day at Disney World last week!!

Columbus, Ohio - Gay Pride Parade (on saturday afternoon) and 3-day Community Festival (a general arts/crafts/free concert street fair which is independent of, but coordinated with, the Gay Pride events). Tiny compared to Chicago but getting bigger every year.

I missed the gay parade because I didnt know when it started and when I got there it was almost over and then I had difficulty finding a parking spot. Volunteered at the voter registration booth for a couple hours in exchange for $18 worth of free food, and I also passed out pamphlets for the Guns and Dope Party (which as the name suggests, is a grand political party for the legalitzation of drugs and assault rifles - two of my dear political causes )

Fortunately the Scientologists were tame, as they didn't have strength in numbers, and there was only a small group of them, giving out quack "stress counseling" and attempting to convert people to Scientology.

This year the festival wasn't as crazy as last years, but still fun. The free concerts are pretty decent every time. Last year a hurricane passed through and flooded everything, and there were about 100 naked men and women having a orgy in a pond!Posted Image

There ya go, another thing to do in Ohio!!

Sounds like a good time!

It was lightly drizzling at the start of our parade, but it cleared up shortly there-after, and did not interfere with the fun. My niece and one of her girlfriends, and her very cute philipino boyfriend hooked up with us, and we staked out a piece of sidewalk right next to the C&W bar, Charlies, which was a mistake, because every 10 minutes someone was buying shots, so in a very short time, we were all waisted! Got to shake Mr. Sulu's hand, and the Governor's hand (I checked to make sure I still had all my fingers) and a whole lot of other politico's as well. Gave a big cheer for the Libertarian float.

I'll post a few tasteful pictures when I get then out of my camera! I was so drunk, I do not remember how we got back to the hotel!! I believe it involved some sort of public transportation. Maybe not.

Hmm, well apparently I will be going to Brighton Pride. That, however, was not intentional.

My friend lives in Brighton and it is her birthday on the 5th August and she asked me to come stay with her and go out for her birthday on that day, so I agreed. Later on, I find out it is Brighton Pride that day.

Well, be sure to maintain your usual sucky attitude about Pride, so you can ruin everyone's day!! l
