Despite the hard blows the Shadow Government was suffering politically, in the military ground it was slowly gaining major ground. The more well-trained U.S. Armed Forces were more of a match for many less rigorously trained militias. Also with the advantage of superior weaponry, they were incredibly lethal opponents. Still, the U.S. Military was getting spread out through enemy territory as they made their victories, that being their one major weakness. Still, something more organized than the attempts of defense that the seceded states were making needed to be done, otherwise Mt. Weather may eventually realize complete victory. The Shadow Government realized this possibility and made sure that no attempts of trying to forge an alliance could be accomplished. Communications between the four secessions were often jammed, and static ruled most radio bands. |

The Bear Flag troops had been driven back into the desert as far as Elko, Nevada. Here was a large supply depot and plenty of ammunition, that had been relatively untouched due to the fact that the Auroras were bombing civilian targets instead of supporting their own soldiers. The Militia began to hurredly evacuate the more vital of the supplies to Reno and Carson City as they dug in for a long siege of the city... |

Texican forces succeeded in taking all the area between the Rio Grande and Arkansas Rivers back from the US and now it was attempting to fortify it against further invasion attempts. The narrow strip of US land between The New Republic of Texas and the Bear Flag Republic, which most of it's occupants and nearby neighbors had begun to call Deseret, was experiencing a large influx of mormon refugees from Utah farther north. Among the mormon leaders, there was talk of joining Texas, California, and even some rare but fervent talk of Independence and perhaps the forming of a Mormon Theocratic Republic, but ultimately, little was accomplished and the refugees who lived there stayed somewhere on the verge between American Rule and utter anarchy. "What the hell? Get these filthy birds out of here!" "No, Commander Rockwell," said Furgus Smoot, "these are carrier pigeons. We can use them to send messages to the other rebelling factions, here, in Minnesota and Michigan, and as far as California, Texas and New England!" Rockwell looked at the bird, "You mean to tell me we can defeat the radio and communication blocks with....birds?" "Yes," said Smoot. "It's been used for centuries. I know people all over the country, and we can send birds!" "Well, I'll be damned. Filthy, stinking birds! OK, then notify Texas that we are alive and well. Also send communications to the Bear State, Quebec, and the pockets in Vermont and New Hampshire. If this works, maybe we can plan some coordinated resistance!" "Oh, it will work," said Smoot, as he left laughing! OOC: Movie quote, anyone?? |

The Bear Flag Forces were secretly amassing in Portland. Unde the RADAR, they were preparing for a massive counterattack through Washington, Idaho, and Montana, which they hoped would join the Republic. As the Siege of Elko began, a thrust of a power that had not been seen thus far in the entire war was just beginning.... |

....regie satanas.....regie satanas.....regie satanas...... It was the last thing he heard after leaving the Void. ....regie satanas.....regie satanas.....regie satanas...... The Void of his Vision. The Vision of what he must accomplish on Earth. It was a haunting, chanting tune that he had shared in when it filled a great blazing city square. And it slowly melted into the rythmic beat of his heart monitor. Now he heard the voices talking. The voices of doctors speaking outside his hospital room. "...according to this chart, his status has not changed. He's still in a coma from the bullet wound." Ah yes... the bullet wound to the head he had sustained while fleeing Houston, Texas. That should be healed by now, of course. He sat up from his bed, and reached for the bandage against his scalp and pulled it off. Gently he felt where the wound had been and instead felt a scalp that had never been penetrated by a bullet at all. He had completely healed, and in only a few weeks. He began diconnecting the hospital equipment from himself, unaffected by the medical drugs they had been pumping into him to treat and stabilize his coma. This of course set off the entire score of intruments that they had connected to him. * * * The doctor had been speaking with a federal officer about the Maitreya's condition just outside the patient's room. He was finishing up reading from the chart and giving his "educated opinion" when he heard the machinery go off in a chorus from within the Maitreya's room. Panicked, believing that they were losing their patient, he rushed right in through the door with the federal officer hot on his heels with many nearby nurses. What they saw astonished them all. The Maitreya was standing in his hospital gown, holding his hands up in the air as if extended in praise. The bullet wound, which had been on his front right temple, was entirely gone. "My children," the Maitreya said. "My Father has brought me back from the brink of death, I bring His rule to Earth!" .....regie satanas..... |

OOC: There's not really anythingto respond to. But I'll continue my attack... IC: The Bear Flag Militia was hesitant to attack Washington. So far, the Feds hadn't brought the fight to the area, and the mostly Oregonian force hated to disturb the peace. Beyond that, they felt that they were desperately needed in Nevada. But they marched on. Fedeal troops around Walla Walla and Yakima wisely fled before the much larger force, instead deciding to fortify the more defensible cities to the east and west. However, unwittingly, they had allowed the Bear Flaggers to drive a wedge between the important cities of the coast and Spokane. The strategy was to simultaneously attack the capital of Olympia and Spokane, knocking down the gates to both Seattle and Idaho in one fell swoop... This recent assault on Washington (homeland of the author) could not be tolerated. The Shadow Government did not like the idea of suddenly being on the defensive and relegated troops of a military already spread too thin to the state to liberate it from the Bear Flag Republic. Tanks and infantry vehicles rolled into the streets of Tacoma, Seattle, Olympia, Tri-Cities, and others to defend them from the invaders. |

The Bear Flag Forces split after the Federal response. The group in Walla Walla under "General" Richard Blake moved north to the border with Canada to prevent any further reinforcement by the Shadow Government. The other group, under "Colonel" Gregory Scott, headed out from Yakima and besieged Tacoma. Yet another group, this one made of reserves from California under "Colonel" Ben Saunders, headed out from Salem to raid Olympia. They would wait for Colonel Scott before sieging the state capital. OOC: Meanwhile, at the Super Best Friends.... Posted Image "Holy crap, the Maitreya has brought to life the Lincoln Memorial!" IC: The assault against the northwestern state of Washington continued with the U.S. Armed Forces desperately trying their best to hold back the concentrated effort of the Bear Flag Republic. The defense of Tacoma was by far the best organized, due to the location and proximity it had with Forts McChord and Lewis. The battle for the city occured primarily towards the south past Lakewood and University place. Despite the losses they were taking in Olympia, Tacoma defense was not going down without a fight. |

Colonel Saunders was getting impatient. His quick raids were dealing acute damage to the defense of Olympia, and yet he had orders to wait for Tacoma, which was much heavily guarded, to fall. He decided that it was in the Republic's best interest to capture the capital with all haste. His soldiers began to probe the defenses more thoroughly during the raids. He determined that the defenses in the north of the city were weak, especially during the raids from the south. He devised his strategy. The greater part of his force would move by cover of darkness and absence of enemy RADAR to the north. Then, the rest of the force would begin engaging the enemy all along the southern perimeter, to give the impression of a large assault. The contact would be just heavy enough that the Federals wouldn't be able to risk the chance that an assault really was happening, and send all forces to the front. Then, the larger force would mve largely unopposed from the north and make it to downtown before the Federals could do a double-take. With the Capitol Building in Republican hands, and the enemy's own downtown defensive perimeter ready to be used against them, the defense of Olympia was doomed... |

The Federal troops in Olympia were easily led into the trap, mostly from overconfidence of the successes they were having in Tacoma towards the northeast. Pursuit was sent south from the state capital to engage the Bear Flag Republicans. The man in charge of this follied decision was General Hank Sutton, and his name would go down in history as the man who cost the Union the state of Washington. |

Olympia became the decisive battle of the Washington theatre. Colonel Saunder's main force hit downtown like a freight train. A soldier, whose name went unknown, was captured in a picture, clambering to the top of the flag pole on the capitol building and tearing the American flag from its wonted place. General Sutton was, as the plan had called for, effectively screwed. His surrender was no surprise. Word of the fall of the capital struck a chord with Federal troops all over the state. They were vincible. They had given the defense of the three cities all they had, and yet Olympia was in enemy hands. This propaganda, helped along by the Bear Flag militias, lionized General Sutton. Instead of a bumbling buffoon, he was made to be a valiant tactician who was simply overwhelmed by a superior force. The defenses of Washington weren't beaten. But for the first time, they felt fear. And for the Republic, fear was power. The Bear Flaggers, in the meantime, kept themselves very busy. As Colonel Scott's siege of Tacoma entered its second week, Colonel Saunders crossed the Sound in an audacious semi-amphibious assault on Seattle. The Federal troops were taken aback by this overly and unneccesarily ambitious manouever. The Waterfront was quickly overwhelmed, but the Federal troops caught their nerve and dug in further into the city. However, no matter what, that all-pervading sense of doom born from this war's Saratoga weakened them. It would only take one lucky strike... General Blake, meanwhile, curved around and attacked Spokane. The Federal troops had been expecting a siege for awhile, but with all the Washingtonian forces fighting in the west, this garrison knew that they would have to rely on reinforcements from Idaho and Montana if they held any hope for survival, let alone victory... The combat in Seattle was intensified, as the United States could not allow their stronghold in Tacoma to be surrounded. The military forces rushed hastily to get what defenses they could along the city's coast, but to no avail. Most of the combat would have to be done within the heavily urbanized streets. Federal positions were quickly thrown back before they could even have a chance to stand their ground. Spokane was an easier venture; however, as reinforcements were sent in from Montana and Idaho. They perceived it a cinch to push back Blake's armies, and then later send reinforcements to aid the Puget Sound in its time of crisis. But an uncalculated detail hit the battlefield... Rockwell's Pidgeons were making remarkably well-placed deliveries. The communication between the seceded states that the Federal Government tried to avoid was taking place. |

Blake was admittedly not a Army general. He had served in the Air Force before the Bear Flag Revolt. He knew how to inspire men, he knew how to get them to fight, he just didn;t know what to do with them once he had done so. As soon as he came under counter-attack, Blake balked and pulled back some, precluding the conflict for a few more days. In the meantime, he got to work fortifying his supply route through central Washington. His strategy left his position much less vulnerable ,and had efficiently sealed off the Puget Theatre, but it also gave the enemy time to dig in, or continue the counter-attack. They chose the latter, driving a force down into Bear Flag positions in the south. The defenders, completely unready, were thrown off guard and forced to retreat into Oregon. The Federals followed them, and took a chunk of Oregon's northeast corner as recompense for Olympia. The forces in Seattle and Tacoma didn't learn about the gains, but those in Spokane were galvanized. A force of Californians under General Howard Winchell sallied forth to take the Oregon bulge back, but four days after it the siege of Spokane began, because of Blake, the battlefield was drastically changed. However, as he was plotting his next move, General Blake recieved word that pigeons were dropping messages from revolutionaries in the Great Lakes area. At first unconvinced, Blake was confronted with a major, who had brought one of the pigeons with him, complete with a message from "George Lincoln Rockwell". General Blake wrote back, and tied the message to several of the pigeons, letting them free to fly back to he who had sent them. Message by Carrier Pigeon to: George Lincoln Rockwell from: General Richard Blake, ABFR (Army of the Bear Flag Republic) I have recieved your carrier pigeon. Upon reviewing the contents of its message, I can only say that the BFR is in Washington, and must soon capture the state from the grasp of the Federals. However, we need to halt re-enforcements from Montana and Idaho. I ask that you begin attack in the Dakotas, that Federal troops may be lured into a wild duck chase there, and allow us an oppurtunity to take Spokane. I ask you to do this for freedom's sake, but am willing to pay if you require it. EDIT: Washington Theatre after 11 Days of Fighting in Tacoma.... After the victory in northern Oregon, the morale of the Federal troops was galvanized. It finally seemed as though the northwestern state of Washington had hope of being fully liberated from the assaults of the Bear Flag Republic. With Spokane ultimately secure, and a chunk of Oregon taken, reinforcements were marched to Seattle and Tacoma. This strategy; however, mostly left the Federal back yard wide open for possible assaults from Rockwell's militia forces. Mostly unaware of the size of his forces; though, the government didn't consider him a major enough threat. |
