I still can't load it, but TC saved a copy and sent it to me on MSN, so I've gotten to see it. It looks good, but at this point Greater Sakha has only taken a third or so of Alaska. The rest is still the State of Alaska, and presumably part of the U.S.A. |

"This is it then?" Governor Myers was pacing in his office like a caged lion. Probably closer to the truth than any of us realize, Colonel Clark Andelus thought to himself. "Sir, that weasel Hielfragg pretty much said that there's no room to negotiate. He says his hands are tied, but the bastard has a reputation of being on the shadowy side of things," Major Welsh burst out, barely able to keep in his stance of at ease. "What do you mean, Major?" Myers turned to the Second-In-Command of the Illinois National Guard with fire in his eyes meant for Major Hielfragg. "Well, sir," Major Welsh replied, thinking of how to phrase what he had to say. "Major Hielfragg was one of the junior officers in the Pentagon program that advocated the use of torture and internal surveillance measures within the United States and without the need for warrants or designations of "enemy combantant status". He was bound for Afghanistan and Iraq before things required more loyal officers here. He won't hesitate to use whatever measures he sees necessary to maintain Federal control." Governor Myers stayed quiet for a second, staring intently at Major Welsh with Colonel Andelus maintaining his silent but confirming look. When Governor Jonathan Myers spoke next, the one of his voice was quiet but holding an energy unlike any the other two men had seen before in the Governor. "Colonel Andelus, I need you to contact Colonel Solten of the 10th Cavalry in Indiana immediately. Can you get the 10th Cavalry on our side?" "Yes, sir. Solten's an old friend from West Point and he knows that sometimes the brass up top isn't the source of the correct orders. I can leave in the next 30 minutes to meet with him in Fort Wayne." "Go. Take whatever measures you have to to meet with him and be secure about it. The 2nd Infantry is a staunchly Federal unit, but the 1st Armored might be another possibility. We need all the help we can get Colonel, or else the last havens of the Union may not no longer be able to stand." Colonel Andelus saluted sharply, turned on heel and strode out of the office as fast as he could in military step. Major Welsh began to follow him, but the Governor stopped him. "Major, I need you to meet with the Speaker of House from the General Assembly. Have him assemble the Representatives of the House. The Senators are already here for a meeting earlier and should still be in town. Once he does that, have the Speaker and the President of the Senate come here. Gather the ranking military officers and any Federals we know are sympathetic to our cause. I need to address them and then the General Assembly." "Yes, sir!" Welsh nodded and saluted quickly. "Be quick, but be safe Major- the fate of the Union depends on it." OOC: Just a heads up, let me know what you have in mind for anything Scythirus before you RP the next bit. I like the reactions so far, but just to keep things on track to how they're going. |

OOC: Well I was actually thinking of letting you reveal the sympathizers while I concentrate on the other aspects of the story. IC: Meanwhile, the dark syndicate of the Shadow Government's propagandizing campaign was well at work. The commercials that pleaded support of America filled with the mind-controlling subliminal messages were being widely aired throughout the U.S. The Maitreya toured across the nation, spouting spiritual guidance that only he can provide the people and that accepting the Shadow Government will guarantee a safer country. Maitreya made stops in each state he could, slowly winding his way out to the west. A 24/7 guard was on him at all times. |

With the abolition of the FCC in Texas, pirate television broadcasts drowned out not only the Shadow Government's commercials in Texas but also many of those in the nearby US states of New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Louisiana. Near the Texas borders of these states, the citizens have been more actively resistant to the chip implants, and many have talked of secession. A militia of almost 300,000 gun totin', freedom loving, Texans have crossed the Louisiana border and have begun heading towards New Orleans, liberating refugees from concentration camps, burning down chip centers, and killing any Federal Agents that stand in their way. They are expected to arrive in New Orleans by tomorrow, where they have plans to launch an all out information war against the Shadow Government, broadcasting over the propaganda commercials and relaying directions to Texan Refugee Centers and instructions on how to safely remove the Beast chips. |

In the four states of the Bear Flag Republic banned Federal broadcasts. The chipping centers and federal controlled buildings had long since been sacked and looted. Most of the Federal troops were allowed either to leave or join up with the Revolt, very few actually died. And although a good number left or disbanded, quite a few Marines from LA's Camp Pendleton were beginning to form into a cohesive fighting force in defense of the Republic. Meanwhile, in Sacramento, a meeting was being held. Called the Bear Flag Congress, it met to discuss how exactly these states would go about seceded life and who would lead them. It was clear that it would be between Governor Gray and Representative Haartman should a presidential race occur. And in the many cities of the Republic, after the violence of the riots had faded, the people went back to their daily lives without much difference. California produced more than enough food to easily feed all of them, and both iron ore and timber were plentiful. It was becoming obvious that these states could eke out a living on their own. And as every day passed, they grew more and more resolved to do so. |

"Maitreya, are you certain you wish to take the tour into Texas?" his chief of guard asked with slight concern. "But of course, my blessed child... the Texans are my children just as much as everyone else in the world," the Lord Maitreya said in his soothing voice. "I need to tell them why they must return to the Union. My Enemy seeks to divide humanity. This, of course, must not be allowed to continue...." |

Militia from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin have begun concentrating in the UP, in camps set up by G.L. Rockwell. At this time, several divisions have been created, with military-type ranks, and have been armed. If anyone from the federal government shows their face, they are in for an ass-kicking. |

Colonel Clark Andelus stepped off the military helicopter that had flown him down from Chicago to Fort Wayne, pulling his dress uniform cover onto his head and holding it there against the slow beating of the chopper blades. Moving out from the two Apaches that had flanked his own and towards the military base in the area, he spotted the man of his quest, Colonel Jefferson Solten. The two had graduated in the same class at West Point, and moved up the ranks to both become Captains before being overseas on assignment. Both had been apart of the 10th Armored Cavalry in Iraq before the German Civil War had forced the withdrawl of forces to Germany to defend American bases and personnel there. Eventually, the two had ended up back in the States after being promoted to Major, with Solten staying in the regular Army and being promoted to commander of 3rd Battalion, and eventually to the CO of the entire unit. Andelus had chosen instead to leave the active Army and joined the National Guard- it was only after the expansion of the military and the need for experienced officers that he earned his promotion to full Colonel and command of the entire Illinois National Guard. Colonel Andelus marched up to face his old friend and saluted in a crisp manner. "Colonel Clark Andelus, Commanding Officer, Illinois National Guard, reporting, sir." Colonel Solten returned his salute, then held out his hand to his friend. "Clark, it's damn good to see you again." He pulled the other into a backslapping hug and then lead him towards the base with the flanking procedural infantry around them. "What brings you to Fort Wayne?" "Well, I'm afraid business- of a very grave matter," Andelus replied, keeping a genial look on his face for any bystanders, but the glance to Solten said more than enough. "Let's discuss it in my office then," the commander of the United States 10th Armored Cavalry replied, walking into the base complex. The pair moved through the hallways of the Fort Wayne Military Base, recently reactivated, with relative ease. Two Colonels, one being the base commander, generally gained enough respect to allow for near-free passage. "So how's the 10th doing? Last I heard, you were being rotated back from southern border patrol." "And heard correctly- we were rotated just a few months before things started getting nasty out West. I'm sorry for the poor bastards down there now, but I'm sure as hell glad that my unit isn't the one stuck down there," Arlen Solten replied as the two arrived at Solten's office. "What can I do for you Colonel? I hear things are getting a bit messy up north." "The entire state of Wisconsin is under martial law, with Michigan and Minnesota under similar circumstances," Andelus took a seat in front of the main desk of the office, the open blinds spilling light into the room while a solitary fan moved the air above them with feeble enthusiasm. "Governor Myers wishes to keep Illinois and other Midwestern states neutral in this conflict, so that military conflict does not tear apart the heart of the nation. I took this to Major Hielfragg-" "Major Thomas "Nazi" Hielfragg?" "One in the same. He's commander of the Federal outpost in Chicago, with a small contingent of forces there under the command of General Roberts," Andelus took a sip of water from the glass offered by Colonel Solten. "Hielfragg agreed to it, but only if every person in the state would be chipped for "national security" purposes." "Bet that went over well with the Governor," Solten replied, leaning back in his battered, but comfortable chair. "Like a lion in a gazelle convention. Myers ordered me here and for my Chief of Staff to gather the General Assembly." "Wait a second," Solten brought his feet down and back straight. "You don't think he's going to-" "I know he is," Andelus stood up, pacing slowly. "Jonathan Myers is by far one of the better people I've known in my life, not at all like the crazies in Canada or in Europe that have taken over. If he thinks that secession is the only way to preserve what he think is right, then he'll do it. More importantly, it means he's right." The silent background that had provided for the meeting before became almost deafening as Clark Andelus, Colonel of the Illinois National Guard turned to face the Indiana countryside outside of the window. Colonel Arlen Solten glanced down at his desk for a moment, taking in what his friend was saying, and slowly coming to conclusions that would not make for any good sleep soon. He crossed his arms, his glance eventually coming to the 10th Cavalry patch on his sleeve. He had grown more and more uneasy about the actions of the so-called "Shadow Government", and more so that his boys would be called on to fight for something that went against the principles he had dedicated his life to- and nearly died for on more than one occasion. He wasn't the only one either- his command staff was similar to his mindset, and several officers he'd spoken with from other units. But...secession? "I take it Governor Myers sent you here to ask me something," Arlen said, his focus still on his sleeve. "He sent you here to ask me to ensure that Illinois and Indiana wouldn't be hampered by Federal forces in the states." The silence that met his statement was more an answer than anything Andelus could have said. Both men were patriots. Both had served their country for so long that it almost seemed sacreligious to consider such things. But if it was the only way to make sure that some part of the United States survived... "Well, if we're going to do this, we're going to do this right." Colonel Solten stood up and came around to Colonel Andelus and extended his hand to him. "The 10th Armored Cavalry will answer the Governor's call." Andelus took it with surprise and a smile and shook it strongly. "Arlen, you have no idea what this does for us- we already have the 3rd Infantry and 6th Armored on board. Having you on board will help immensely." "The 2nd Infantry and 1st Armored are potential issues. Both are in the middle of Indiana, poised to strike if need be." "I think I can talk to the 1st Armored CO and at least get him to provide non-interference or even compliance. I don't expect much with the 2nd Infantry though," Andelus conceded. "Still, it's something," Solten came around to the front of his office and opened the door. "Stay the night, we'll work over some more details and plan this out further and you can fill me in on the politics of this all. Even with the 10th Cavalry in now, this is going to be one hell of a show." |

"We're getting some unnerving reports, Mr. Goreprime, that our commercial broadcasts are being drowned out on the Pacific coast and in Texas and surrounding states," stated the Head of Internal Affairs. "If this continues, we'll be watching the rest off the United States fall from our grasp. All that we have worked for will be lost. The Maitreya is currently entering Texas in an attempt to sway it back over to our side. We're hoping this succeeds." "I certainly hope it does, Miss Kojiro," President Thaddeus E. Goreprime stated with a furious grimace between his jowls. "And I'm hoping that Doctor Cornelius' suggestions don't become a total failure, otherwise the good Doctor will be needing to find new employment... elsewhere!" "Don't you think I'm as furious as you?" the doctor defended himself. "The pirate bands were an unexpected retaliation! The only solution is that we must broadcast our channels on higher transmission bands. The pictures may come in a bit interfered with, like static, lines, and other common problems with poor reception, but most of our message will get through!" "A decent proposal, Doctor Cornelius, but not completely full-proof. Perhaps our legal department can suggest something." The President turned his attention to someone else in the small, dimly illuminated boardroom. "Ah yes, my good sir... the suggestion is a simple one," replied the Head of the Business Legal department. "Considering the acts of aggression taken against our chipping centers and concentration camps in Texas and the West Coast, the citizens have technically declared war. So legally, there is nothing preventing us from taking military action against Texas and the so-called 'Bear Flag Republic.' " "Then so be it. We will take immediate police action against Texas and the Bear Flag Republic!" |

New Orleans was now broadcasting anti-Goreprime messages louder and with more power than ever. Louisiana soon voted to join the Republic of Texas and followed in their footsteps in signing the constitution written by Ron Paul. Meanwhile, in Austin, Ron Paul was unanimously elected and inaugurated as the first president of the new and free Republic of Texas. He immediately contacted Governor Gray and after expressing his support for him should he run for president, discussed the growing possibility of a US invasion of both of their new nation-states. |

The Maitreya was becoming a dangerous entity in Texas. After a few of his mass lectures, he was already beginning to grow together a small following, creating so-called "Shadow Government" loyalists and "Spiritual Students." The curious World Teacher and allegedly self-proclaimed Messiah was a strangely persuasive one. Mount Weather was managing to score some points with his many sermons. |

With the support from Texas, Governor Gray won a close race. His own state and California outvoted Nevada and Oregon. With the new leader in the form of now President David Gray, the Republic was stronger than ever. However, it was obvious that the federals would try something military soon. President Gray immediately contacted President Ron Paul and proposed a meeting in Phoenix to discuss the possbility of a US invasion of their territory. |

The troops were being lined up along the borders, hour by hour, day by day. Transfers to the bases in key locations were numerous. Briefings were made on what to expect: These people were terrorists. They wanted to see democracy fail in America. They wanted to destroy the Union. They'd spare no innocents that wound up in the line of fire. The leaders that have usurped control over Texas and the Pacific States were monsters. It was a perfectly weaved batch of propaganda. |

...And in the Pacific states, it came right after a democratic election that was considered exceedingly fair. The timing was off. It was quite simple for the Bear Flag leadership to point out that this propaganda was coming from an army preparing to invade, loot, rape , pillage, and burn. The federals were the enemy. They interrupted all your favorite television programs with abrasive propaganda, they called the leader you voted for a monster, and claimed that you needed to be liberated when your life hadn't really changed at all, let alone for the worse. This was another Kent State, another Birmingham or Selma Alabama, another Boston Massacre. This was government at its worst. The federals were coming not to uphold freedom, but to quash it. They were planning on implanting microchips into people. They'd watch you everywhere, know your every secret. They were out to get you, to oppress you. That was all it took. The Shadow Government would not have popular support for an invasion of the Bear Flag Republic. |

Within time, the first shots against Texas and the Bear Flag Republic were fired. Fighter jets and bombers soured through the air, making raids on the capitals. Infantry and armor made organized crossings over the borders. The Second American Civil War had begun. Thus while the Maitreya was dictating another major sermon within Houston, the entire service was cut short. The Maitreya's guards escourted him to his dressing room in the auditorium he was lecturing at. "The United States has suggested we get you out of the line of friendly fire before our forces arrive," his chief military aide stated. "Very well... if the course of events has decreed it," replied the Maitreya coolly. |
